Very lovely laksa fried rice! Could do with more spice though. Cute cafe with good food and a nice little outdoor area which was very nice on a good day. The green chilli scramble was delish too 😋

It's a very cozy place. The girls were really nice and welcoming. I got the coffe very fast, considering that is was very busy. My eggs taste very good, i like the potato hashbrown instead of toast, but it was a little bit oily. Other than that everything was great. Definitely one of the places to be for breakfast!

Not my first time at Square & Compass cafe in East Melbourne, but each time I am left thoroughly impressed and satisfied. The cafe is locally owned and operated, which is always a plus in my book. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making me feel right at home. One of the standout features of this cafe is the coffee - they serve Vacation Coffee, which is a local roaster and it was delicious to say the least. The flat white was bang-on, resulting in a smooth and flavourful cup of coffee. But the coffee isn't the only thing that impresses me - the food is also top-notch. They have a great selection of breakfast and lunch options, all made with high-quality ingredients. The menu doesn't get rotate too often, aside from seasonal add ons, and few changes here and there. In addition to the food and coffee, the cafe has a great atmosphere. It's a cozy and intimate space, with a rustic and charming decor. It's the perfect spot for a casual brunch with friends or a solo coffee break. Overall, I highly recommend Square & Compass cafe in East Melbourne. The locals running it, excellent coffee, and delicious food make this cafe a must-visit. I will definitely be returning in the future.

A small frontage hides a fresh, open and modern dining atmosphere. Staff are busy and officious, but friendly and accommodating. Meals are reasonably priced and portioned. It's not over crowded with a little table space out front and some more out the back.

Nice historic building with a styled up interior. Friendly staff, great menu with all dietary requirements listed. Delicious cold brew by Vacation roasters. I had the peanut butter toast with tomato, basil and toasted peanuts and it was soooo good - not a combo I would’ve thought to do, but it worked!

Rating 4.5 / 5 What one does after running a Marathon? Brunches!! That's what we do and the closest option was Square and Compass. Quite a crowded morning, we had to wait for almost 15 minutes to get a table. This place has amazing vibe. Attendants are friendly and helpful, music is good and coffee is excellent. Ordered a Potatoes Roesti with Salmon, Laksa Fried Rice, Chicken Schnitzel and Omelette Easily, the smoked salmon was the winning dish of the day. Good flavors going quite well with each other. Second best was the Fried Rice. It was yummy and nicely spiced, though couldn't see much of chicken. Schnitzel and Omelette were pretty simple and easy food and had not had much going with it. We definitely loved the food and the prices are quite decent to taste and portions. They have Vegan and Vegetarian options but quite limited.

The food selection isn't too bad and one of the best things here is that the food is served quite quickly. The staff are quite attentive so you aren't left waiting for them to come and collect your order. The food itself tastes good, however, isn't anything amazing. It's in a nice spot and they have an outdoor area at the front and back which is great on a good day.

The atmosphere here reminds me of some cafes I visited in Havana and Jamaica - might be the black ceiling fans, but it’s super cosy in here. Great coffee and snacks, haven’t tried the food yet though

The breakfast was absolutely great and the staff was really nice. The vibe of the cafe was cool as well. I just found the place a little expensive!

Nice cafe. Todays special was pastrami toaster. Came with huge green salad and was 16$. Totally worth. Couldn’t finish eating so I asked for pack to go and they gave me the bag to go. Very friendly staff. Nice coffee!

Luke the waitress clearly is looking for another type of job because the way he talks with the clients should be way more friendlier.. But his mad face and his tone shows zero patient. The food was good and the coffee very creamy. Also another girl who came to do the order was waaaay better understanding with my friend who has little English. 5 stars to her.

Ordered the egg your way, scrambled, they arrived overly raw. Waitress was kind enough to have the kitchen cook them further and when the plate returned a large egg shell fragment was in my food. Coffee was great though!

Really delicious brunch with good coffee too. We enjoyed sitting at the back undercover and by the small tree. Servings were generous and the like bowl was great. My friend ordered the eggs benedict and the bacon was thick cut and delicious with the hash brown

We came late and ordered lunch. Staff was super friendly and food was delicious. Despite being late (they were closing) we were encouraged to chill and enjoy our lunch. Great place, looking forward to be back

Great coffee, very tasty and healthy menu and excellent service. Having breakfasts and lunches there for more than a month and it's always great. They are changing menu from time to time, but always great. Potato rosti is a piece of art. Fried kimchi rice, open omelette with green beans and goat cheese are great and super tasty. Staff always friendly and promptly.

I never order anything else except the chili scrambled eggs, because why mess with perfection? Great coffee too. I’ve been known to come back twice in the one day for the same meal. Yes, it’s that good.

Iced latte was good, but $17.88 for a coffee and a sparkling water on a saturday is too expensive.

The food here were amazing, probably the best eggs benedict I've had. The base was hashbrown instead of bread and they allowed me to swap the bacon to salmon. The burger was so good, my boyfriend that usually don't like pickles, liked it. Would come here again. The vibe here was nice, good service, clean, and really felt like a hidden local gem.

Absolutely LOVE this place! They have a very tasty menu of selections for breakfast including their Chili Omelette, scrambled eggs, selection of toasts and the one & only, Toast with peanut butter with cherry tomatoes and sea salt!! The coffee is awesome, great atmosphere and the service is excellent. I always try to get to this place whenever I'm in Melbourne.

Had brunch here on the weekend and it was fantastic. The food and coffee was really good. You can see the kitchen at work from the seating area. Everything looked to be made fresh, I ordered the chicken burger and I watched as a fresh chicken breast was dipped in flower and coated with the batter and fried from the table. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Lovely food, and amazing range of drinks, but sandwiches almost gone quite early on. Menu a bit pricey. $13 for two fried eggs on one slice of toast feels like a fair bit to me. The beetroot, apple, carrot and celery juice was gorgeous though, and if go back just for that.

Best coffee and salad in the neighbourhood if you fancy a takeaway. If you have time to eat in, they have some great breakfast and lunch options.

This is one of my all time favourite cafes in Melbourne! They were wonderful at catering for our large booking of 14 people, a newborn baby and 2 toddlers! The food was all delicious too with wonderful waitstaff! Thank you, we’ll definitely be back as will our friends!

Asked for a double shot extra hot flat white( am a semi regular) The coffee was warm but not hot after I had a couple of sips so I asked if I could have it redone but the manager asked me to pay again if I want it redone or he can heat it in the microwave!
