Amazing zoo, so many chances to interact with the animals and get up close. The guinea pigs are too excited to see visitors and come running straight away. $20.00 per adult which we found to be an excellent price. Spent about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Do need to provide your own lunch as there is nothing here but heaps of spots to sit for a picnic or head into town for a feed. Loved it.

Im a zoo keeper from another state and visited on holidays today, I am appalled at the condition of some of the animals! Lions are emaciated with sores and weeping eyes, camel have lice and infected eyes and a deer was hobbling around with a leg that looked broken and untreated. Absolutely disgusting! Ive reported this zoo to the RSPCA!

I was pleasantly surprised by this quite small private zoo a few kilometres out of Mansfield. On entry, you can buy a $2.50 supply of feed suitable for most of the animals, in a little bucket with a plastic spade. Animals such as deer, kangaroos, wallabies, horses and even emus can be fed by hand, whereas the camels are better to be fed with the spade. At 1:30 you can watch the lions being fed by a keeper, who also gives an informative talk. Two of the lions, both males, are "white" lions, two of only 102 left in the world, all in captivity. A very special experience seeing these majestic big cats up so close. I highly recommend to anyone visiting the Mansfield area taking some time to visit this zoo, especially if you have kids.

It is the best zoo in Victoria in terms of animals interaction and price. Owners and workers are so lovely and love and treat their animals so well. A must see place especially when the weather is good.

Smallish zoo which includes mainly domestic animals. This site is best for parents with kids who wish to feed the animals. Costs $20 for an adult to enter. The zoo is mainly set up for people who wish to interact with the animals, if this is not you then this may not be the place for you. I will say it was disappointing that the zoo seemed to be passive aggressive over my review. This review was not posted to check all of the boxes and I don't post just to get a ranking up

Really enjoyed my visit to Manfield Zoo despite it being a bit chilly. It was also a bit muddy so I was thankful for the "boot room" and the opportunity to borrow some condition-appropriate footwear! The hand-fed animals were also very friendly and not pushy to get food. The camel though tried to steal my feeding shovel though!!! He was very vocal about getting fed. Overall though the people were lovely and you can get really close to the animals, great day out.

We had low expectations but actually had a wonderful time here. We enjoyed all of the exhibits, modest as some of them are. But, we got the most unexpected joy from the tame kangaroos here. I’m an Aussie born and bred and I’ve never been approached by about 30 small friendly kangaroos who just loved being patted and stroked especially under the chin and on the chest. It was such an unexpectedly moving thing to be among and to touch these lovely native animals. It is something I will long cherish.

We made a family day out and drove two hours to get to the zoo today. It was what we expected it to be.. a small country zoo. It was a beautiful day! The animals are all friendly and more than happy to eat from your hand or spade. Worthwhile getting the bucket to be able to feed them all. My kids loved it. And it was just big enough to wear them out without being too exhausting. There is some empty things... The alligator enclosure is being moved or rebuilt etc. The Wolves were "coming soon". Will be keen to go back when new animals are added. We saw a couple lions but the white ones were hiding from good view so would like to see them next time. I liked that it wasn't commercialized with a huge gift shop (there was a small set up of things to buy). I don't think the cafe was open when we were there but we had morning tea before arriving and then a packed lunch on leaving so worked out perfect for saving some money on food. Cost $75 for a family of 5 (one under 3) and a large bucket of feed (which they divided into 3 for the 3 kids, which was great). Would visit again. 👌💓

We had a really great time here, learning about native Australian wildlife and a bit of history about aboriginal culture. Some of the animals were not out in their enclosure, but it was probably due to the warm temperature. I really enjoyed the reptile hub and the staff were very friendly!

Fantastic place owners are really nice it is a private zoo animals are so nice and chilled very friendly. bailey the deer is so nice and gives lots of affection had a broken leg at 10 weeks and a sized leg happy he didn't get put down he has such a big personality. Look forward to seeing him again in September. I am sorry to see that people leave bad reviews without getting there facts straight first if you have any questions just ask don't assume. the animals are looked after most zoos sedate the animals to beautify them they dont. They don't look like models in the wild so why should they look like that at a zoo.

Enjoyed taking grand kids here for birthday treat. The free range animals were a real hit, and very friendly and tame. The deer and kangaroos allowed the 2yo to walk right up to them and feed them. Other animals seemed contented with plenty of food and water and interesting cages. Watching the lions fed was great and explained some of the negative reviews! These lions are geriatric and are living out their days in pleasant surroundings with easy food! Definitely not underfed and sick.

Although the staff were friendly and welcoming, the animals were sad and some looked unwell with sores (camel and deers) and lack of energy (not because of the time of day). It was a sunny day today and barely any shade was available for some animals. Enclosures are small and noticed that the drinking water provided for most animals was murky. The owners may have established the zoo out of their love for animals, but please consider an upgrade of space and facilities. As a fellow animal-lover it was a bit sad to see. It was not complete neglect but they definitely need some more assistance (maybe a government fund) to provide more space and comfort for the animals. The lion's enclosure was small, but a sign did mention that the Lions are played with and looked after. Please consider investing in a bigger inclosure for those two.

What an amazing zoo I would highly recommend a visit it was so relaxing walking around the grounds feeding the animals it was very obvious that all of the animals welfare is of the highest priority to the owners and their team so polite and engaging I took a trip to Canberra several years ago with the sole purpose of seeing the white Lions and was delighted to see the boys again looking so healthy and so well cared for it was a true pleasure to meet the owners Such lovely people definitely a day to remember

Five of us came to Healesville Sanctuary on a Tuesday morning to see the native Australian animals. We were delighted to see that the animals were all well-cared for, and there seemed to be a strong vision to protect and care for all the animals at the sanctuary. Rather than a focus on handling and petting the animals, I respected that there is a stronger focus on observing and appreciating the animals. We also thought that the wildlife hospital was very informative and engaging; we had the opportunity to watch a wallaby having a health check and being hydrated with fluids. We really enjoyed our time at Healesville Sanctuary and I would recommend everyone who passes through Healesville to visit this zoo.

Best zoo experience I have had yet!! 90 percent of the animal enclosures you could actually see them, not hiding or sleeping either. Wonderfully layed out and the bird show was just fantastic. Each bird has such character and beauty to them. Dino exhibit was well beyond expectations with so many Dino's and large beast, had my favourite Dino styracy which isn't that well known so was incredible to see one in person. They moved too!! Id happily pay lot more then I did to go here and with tourist hot spots it's rare that places exceed expectations.

Beautiful clean sanctuary, with lots of shady areas. Children getting in free at certain times is a bonus too. Lovely friendly staff willing to help. Great exhibits, and a live bird show which was fun for young and old. A lovely gift shop as well. There are 3 cafes and lots of places to have a picnic. Very covid safe, tickets MUST be brought on line before entering. A wonderful place to spend the day.

Great place to take the kids out for the day. Hands on feeding with up and close touch and feel with some animals roaming free around the park. Many animals to see with feeding times from 1pm onwards on most days. Only thing the Zoo is missing is they do not offer takeaway food or drink so make sure you pack a lunch and drinks to take with you. Over all we enjoyed our day out and would happily go there again.

I had a wonderful visit to the Mansfield zoo, all the animals were so friendly and let my kids 2 & 5yo approach and feed them. I'm so glad to see 2 of the last 102 African White Lions living happy lives in this beautiful open plan zoo. To hear that these lions have lived to 21years (13 years expected in wild) in captivity really shows how much care this zoo takes of their animals.. I will be more than happy to return next time I'm in Mansfield or surrounds

A fantastic zoo that I had heard of several years ago but only got an opportunity to visit this year. It is a small zoo with rich experience for children. We were greeted by friendly ducks, Peacock, Wallaby, Deer. We could feed all these beautiful animals with hands and other animals we fed with a spade. Lovely talk by Dave when the Lions were fed.

Had a great time at Mansfield zoo. Stayed for a few hours and was good value for money. The park was quite muddy and some of the animals were hibernating for the winter, possibly better for a summer visit. Gumboots were provided, would definitely recommend wearing them after wet weather.

What a great place for young kids to have the opportunity to feed and get close to animals. A feeding bucket costs $2:50, which you get animal feeding pellets and a shovel. You can feed many Deer,Cattle,Camels,Emus,Kangaroos and Lamas. It's a great place to spend at least 3 hours.

A wonderful smaller zoo with many marvellous attractions and animals to see! All the animals are healthy and well-kept (aside from maybe the portly deer bullying feed out of your bucket), and everything is wonderfully laid out for you to tour at your own pace. Bring your walking shoes and go explore!

Nice small family run zoo. Getting over businesses using COVID as an excuse for not offering/doing things . So they aren't feeding the Lions due to COVID. Seriously? We are outside - and I'd your worried about spreading it, why not just make masks mandatory - or allow based on first in basis. We got there about 10:30am, knowing the feeding was after lunch - very annoying after driving just under 3 hours to get here.

Haven't seen many zoos in Australia. I've been to it twice so far within 2 years. This one is small and mostly hosts kangaroos, camels, lampackas, Limaes, 2 dingos and 2 lions among other animals. Lions will be sleeping unless you are lucky to catch them feeding. Kids love feeding the animals. Beware of the camels who grabs the feeding trowel if they get a chance. Won't take more than 2 hours to cover the area.

Such a fun day for my partner and I! So sad the wombats weren't there and we couldn't see the show due to the massive cues and limited numbers (something we understood due to COVID). We would have preferred masks to be worn around the park (something my partner and I did), as it was very busy and people were very close. Overall a lovely day, but keep in mind with no children the day only takes 2 and 1/2 hours so a tad expensive for this (but I'm happy the money goes to wildlife conversation). I can't wait to bring my son here when he's older!!!

  • 5/5 Elizabeth AKA Pat I. 3 years ago on Google
Great set-up with easy access to all areas of sanctuary. Friendly staff around the park are only to happy to inform the customers on the particular animal/wildlife attributes. It was very interesting and we loved the fact that we get up close and personal with many of the animals.

A very well landscaped place. Hadn't been back here in more than a decade. There were many well placed informative signs about. The toilets near the main entrance are in better condition than the ones further in. Very accessible place for strollers, prams and wheelchairs. Lots of shady places and play areas for kids. I love the walk in aviary where you can see the birds close up. A pair of birds had their nest in a fork of a tree right next to the path. There were many purple swamp hens strolling all over the place. Allow anywhere from 2.5 hours upwards for this place if you want to also attend the keeper talks. Only electronic versions of maps are available.

Overall underwhelming experience. Animals hard to see or removed for renovation (ie wombats and devils) and lots of walking between enclosures. The croc I remember from 20 years ago was no longer there. Ironically the favourite part for our children (5 and 7) was the mechanical dinosaur exhibit that all 3 zoos seem to be doing at the moment. It wasn't as tacky as I thought it would be, but we didn't drive 90 minutes just for that. There are plenty of smaller native animal parks around vic that offer a much better experience, ie moonlit in pearcedale and others I am sure. Probably wouldn't return. Not on par with partner zoos at Weribee and Melbourne, yet commands the same entry fee. On the plus staff were friendly and knowledgeable and ample shaded picnic spots.

I'm from the city of Melbourne so I was happy to see the variety of deer in large grazing pastures and others free roaming, all looked beautiful and were not shy or skittish, they were very peaceful and many came up to us and welcomed a gentle pat while hand-fed long grass. The emus and camels cheerfully trotted over to greet us, they were very curious investigating our accessories (umbrella, hat, watch, buttons). It was special to experience animals voluntarily come to greet us (except those enjoying an afternoon nap) because they weren't forced to be "on show", they were content just fossicking around or resting in our company unfazed. To see how trusting the animals were is a real credit to this zoo, perhaps because it is a privately owned smaller zoo it isn't hectic and overwhelming for the animals so they feel safer and enjoy human interaction. It was nice not to have to rush around to make sure we saw everything, we were able to relax and actually enjoy it (within a few hours). We watched the lion and meerkat feeding on Saturday around 1:30pm (26/02/22). The presenters were extremely knowledgeable about these animals, why they aren't permitted to breed, and the dedication that goes into providing the habitat (the White Lions went extinct in the wild). Highly recommend a visit and support the couple's hard work!

Will be great fun for kids. Can feed many animals like deers, kangaroos, ducks, Llamas, camel to name a few. Many animals in open and are very friendly. Kids will live them.

Small, interactive zoo not far from Mansfield town. There aren't many varieties of animals, but kids will love as they can feed them. Not very expensive.

Great experience! To get up and close with the beautiful white lions watching them feed was amazing!! The guy running the show was great and really educated us on how unfortunate certain goverment sectors have made decisions which prevents zoo to provide work experience and breed and avoid extinctions of these beautiful exotic animals here in Victoria.

Was a very chill and interesting visit. The camel was licking a pole with high intensity. One of the zookeepers had some interesting stories to tell about the lions. Would recommend a visit

Was an amazing experience. The deer and kangaroos were very friendly and gentle. We were also provided with free gumboots hire which was much appreciated. The only negative was the lion enclosure. The enclosure seemed very small and the lions looked underfed.

Had a great day meeting some very friendly and exotic animals. Was thrilled to be able to hand feed such a variety of animals. What a privilege. Plenty of nice places to have a picnic. Great way to spend the day. Lucky to have somewhere to still interact with animals. Thanks Mansfield Zoo I appreciate the privilege.

Always a great place definitely do not agree with some of these reviews by people who clearly have 0 knowledge on captive animals and the care and effort needed to care for them. Zoo keeper was a very knowledgeable man and worth listening to. Was a awesome chat and always a good experience.

This is a five star zoo better than any I have visited in Melbourne, even with less animal animals are happier and healthier and I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks to Dale ( sorry if i got it wrong) for the incredible experience you provided us during our recent visit to Mansfield Zoo. Your dedication and knowledge truly made our day unforgettable. Your passion for the animals and your willingness to share your expertise with us was evident from the moment we arrived. Your insights and anecdotes added depth to our visit and made it so much more enriching, we were so grateful to see you and the zoo lady help baby deer fawn back into the pen with its mum. It's clear that you not only care deeply for the animals but also for the visitors who come to learn about them. We left the zoo with a newfound appreciation for wildlife and conservation, thanks to your guidance.

This is a gorgeous spot in Mansfield with a lovely view of the Mt Buller. They have a good range of animals including Lions and Camels. We went with few families and everyone had a great time specially kids. It’s bit muddy but they provide you with boots so walking in the mud sort of a different fun. This is a place you must pay a visit.

Went for a family excursion and wasn't sure what to expect. It is the perfect place to visit and see animals up close and personal. The chance to be able to feed most of the wildlife makes it more personal and enjoyable. It is very spacious and pram friendly. Would recommend bug spray as lots of flies around due to the animals being in their own habitat.
