Testing Grounds

Garden Art center

👍 Not open when we came by, but it was the xmas hols. Nice little garden, lots of concrete and a high, 'keep out' fence. Cool space, hoping to make it back soon. People often mention space, Melbourne,

Very cool and arty space. Great for exhibitions and drinks. Very open. Came here on a nice night so it was lovely, but imagine it would be quite cold.

Great public space. Behind the site is a dedicated team to the creative arts carving space for artists are creates in Melbourne and abroad to experiment, exhibit and test their work in the public landscape. A rotation of different arts projects on the go, including by individual artists, collectives, commissions and festival activities.

Great hidden space behind the art centre. Never knew about before today. Should be used for far more events. Great location and space.

The space is absolutely unreal and perfect for almost any event (as long as you have the creativity/imagination). Unfortunately we had to cancel our event at The Testing Grounds due to weather conditions just 6 days out - luckily we did as it did pour on the day (that's the nature of outdoor events). In the weeks/months prior to the event the staff were so helpful and really wanted to assist us in bringing our vision to life. So thankful that there are people out there working at venues that really do care and want to help in any way they can. Looking forward to holding an event here in the future!

Testing Grounds in Melbourne is an avant-garde haven for art enthusiasts, and my recent visit for the (Un)Home: Being-towards-place contemporary art show was an exceptional experience. Nestled within the city, this venue itself is a work of art with its innovative use of outdoor spaces. (Un)Home, presented by the Chinese Museum Arts Collective, was a captivating exploration of the concept of belonging and displacement. The thought-provoking installations, sculptures, and multimedia exhibits created a powerful narrative that resonated deeply with the audience.

What’s not to love? The most important aspect about this space is that it is run by people who are passionate about the arts and about keeping the arts accessible to everyone. The space is completely free to use, open filled with plants and flowers. It has a bar with wine and beers as well as coffee. It also has food trucks that stop in and they are absolutely delicious. It runs movie nights and loads of other events. There is no other place that is like Testing Grounds and the only place I’ll be having drinks this summer. Do yourselves a favour and go check out the space, you will not regret it!

Testing Grounds is the most valuable space for the art community of Melbourne. This venue is growing in popularity while it helps artist and communities to express their work. Bareport and Australian Student Environment Network would like to thank all the staff at Testing Grounds because we could not have run such a beautiful event without their support.

Fantastic space. Inspiring (and very Melbourne...) to see these smaller initiatives utilising what would otherwise be a useless space... We had a work Christmas party here, and have since gone back to visit the eclectic mix of talent that this environment nurtures... Happy that places like this exist. : )
