Vegan restaurant in Footscray - getting more and more popular now. Food was pretty good even for non-vegetarian people like us. Stir fried chinese broccoli with duck was the highlight of the meal for me even it was a bit sweet. Saute goat was good too but a bit oily. Garlic fried chicken and braised fish were so so. Price is prob in the high range especially $15 for smoothie. Many tables with nice interior deco with wall painting and plants. Staffs can be more helpful. Service is pretty slow though.

I waited more than 20 minutes both times and the place wasn’t even crowded. The Nam Vang style noodle soup soup base was crazy amazing but MM were average. The sizzling beef was delicious but not very hot though. Both generous portions and reasonable price. One small critique is that the music was kind of distracting. However, overall really great experience.

ORDERED: 🍜 Viet Spicy Lemongrass Noodle Soup (Bun bo hue) ($17.00) 🫘  Salt n Pepper Deep Fried Tofu (Tau hu rang muoi) ($20.00) 🍚 Fried Rice with Beyond Beef (Com Chien Bo Tai Beyond) ($22.00) It was $29.50 for my portion! This was shared between two. REVIEW: Huong Viet is a unique casual Vietnamese restaurant that purely makes vegetarian/vegan food. A feat, when Vietnamese cuisine is typically meat heavy. 🤩 ✔️  The vegan lemongrass didn't taste like the traditional meaty bun bo hue, but it was still delicious. The portions are generous so there's plenty of food to go around!  🙂 You can add more spice to the bbh, if you choose, because they give a heaping amount on a little side plate. ✔️  Fried rice had that delicious charcoal flavour, which gives it that extra smokiness that you can't get at home... unless you have a more professional set up. It certainly helps to justify ordering it at the restaurant! ❌  Tofu are cut up into smaller chunks. This means you miss out on the opportunity to enjoy the appreciate a good quality tofu that's softer in the middle and the crispier outside. Nonetheless, they do provide it with soy sauce so you can add more umami flavour. There's a credit card surcharge, so bring cash if you'd like to avoid the charge. Service is friendly and standard for a casual restaurant!

Best vegan restaurant in Melbourne! No doubt.. everything was so flavoursome. Better than some non vegan restaurants. Even friends who don’t normally eat vegan food came back here on their own after I took them. 10/10 in all the dishes we’ve tried. Highly recommended! 🤩

Driving through Footscray and stumbled across this fantastic vegan restaurant. Ordered the sizzling beef salad which was just delicious! The best mock meat I've tasted. Will come back and bring friends/family.

A great restaurant to look for vegan dishes. They have a menu with a wide range of Vietnamese dishes but with vegetarian ingredients. The dishes are delicious, and close to their original imitative dishes. The atmosphere and background music gives a really nice calm and relaxing vibe. The decoration is nice and unique. The restaurant is quite big, having 2 sections with lot of tables for different group size. Service is quick, staff is friendly.

The best vegan pho I've eaten so far and the staff are super friendly. Will come here again ! Edit. Came here again with my wife after lockdown 6 was eased and shops opened up for dine in. This place definitely did not disappoint. Food is amazing!

I've been here a few times now and always blown away by how delicious all the food is. The all vegan menu has so much variety - we had the mock duck pancakes, fried wontons and combination pho which all had so much flavour and great texture to the mock meat. The pho especially was full of flavour which is often missed in vegan pho. The prices are very reasonable, the food came out quickly and the staff are lovely - you can't go wrong!

This has to be the best vegan/ vegetarian restaurant I have been to. Since becoming vegetarian, 6 years ago, I have not had sweet and sour pork - and OMG it tasted so good, like how I remember it. The rice paper rolls are highly recommended with the peanut, spicy dipping sauce. The crispy mushrooms - delicious, crunchy and absolutely not soggy at all.

Very cute little place! I often miss out on trying lots of Vietnamese dishes so this place makes me feel included. I got the combination broken rice as well as some vegetables, the mock meat is really tasty. Nice service and good atmosphere too. However, there was some strange anti-abortion pro-life propaganda playing on the television for the whole restaurant to see…? I found it a bit unsettling. Aside from that the experience was actually really nice. Will come back again but please get rid of the propaganda on the TV, not something you’d want to see while eating. UPDATE: I came here with my family on a Wednesday night. We waited 2 hours. So many customers came in, ordered and received food before us. We ended up leaving because it was 9pm, we had no apologies, nothing was done to amend the situation. I love the food here but I was so disappointed with this service that I won’t be returning. We couldn’t eat anywhere else because everything was shut by the time we left. Be wary of a ridiculously long wait if you come at a time when it’s not quiet.

Absolutely amazing food. I grew up eating Vietnamese food in Footscray and the broth for the Pho is the most realistic and close to the real deal I have ever tasted. Best part is that it is all vegan with a few vegetarian dishes. We would come here everyday if it was closer to him!

This place brings fresh flavours of Vietnamese home-made meals. Full of simplicity, subtle variations and exotic ingredient that keep us asking the waiter, "are you sure there is no meat in it?"

Vegan restaurant and it's vietnamese style dishes! The fried rice is tasty but lacking the wok hei (smoky) taste from the wok. The combination Rice for most of it are good although the patty is not the best tasting patty compared to other vegan restaurant. The soybean taste is strong in this one. Food - 7 Service - 7 Vibe - 7 Price - $$

Lovely Vietnamese Vegan & Vegetarian restaurant in the heart of footscray. Delicious food. Calm atmosphere. Friendly service. We had the amazing Lemongrass Chilli Tofu and Combo faux beef Phö. Both absolutely divine. Big serves too, so was full well into the night. Fragrant, lovingly made food. Definitely worth a visit. Super happy with my very first visit to this restaurant.

Best Vietnamese vegan restaurant in Melbourne. They have a huge menu with so many options. The food was amazing and fresh with great prices. We were impressed by the pork and prawn rice papers rolls OMG that have tasted very similar to the real meat. Staffs are quick and helpful. They also provide hot tea for all tables. Love it! Can’t wait to come back🙏

Within Footscray you are spoilt with a huge choice of authentic Vietnamese restaurants with their take and twist of their own versions. However there are only a handful of purely vegetarian offerings - one of our favourites is Huong Viet. Not only its variety, taste, price are good, the decor is the best! See photos taken below.

I have been coming to this Vegan place for years, before the lovely renovations and before the pandemic. The food is always full of flavour. They used to advertise no garlic, onion, shallots etc however I believe they now add these to their meals. We had the Seafood Stir Fry with Rice and Prawn and Pork Dumpling with BBQ Charsui which tasted amazing! I would eat here daily of I could, these 2 meals was $38 in total, with complimentary tea. Can't wait to come back, the Sautee Duck is also nice, Lemongrass Spicy Noodle Soup, Salt and Pepper Fried Chicken and the list goes on! FYI They do not serve alcohol.

Amazing 100% vegan Vietnamese restaurant in Footscray with lots of tasty options. The restaurant has plenty of seating and booking are generally not required. Tea is served on arrival. There are plenty of options on the menu but my favourites so far are: - sweet and sour pork - beancurd fish with tamarind sauce - sweet and sour deep fried flounder The dishes are large imo and great for sharing. Highly recommend Huong Viet vegan to vegans and non-vegans alike.

Been here for second time now and I’ll come back to try other dishes for sure. food is always fresh & made with care. Great little shop with lovely fresh healthy meals and lots of mock meat selections from chicken, duck, fish, beef and pork and the food that I ordered was delicious and very, very tasty. Can’t wait to try the rest of the foods.

What a great vegan restaurant! Had the crab and tomato noodle soup and was blown away with the flavour, the variety of mock meats included were excellent quality as well. Often find that mock meats are very heavy on the ‘seitan’ flavour and overly artificial - not here. Really delicious and we will be back for sure!

This restaurant was a really awesome experience with so many vegan options to choose from! In my opinion I would have loved to have seen more vegtables on the menu instead of a focus on fake meats. Ordered the Broccoli and duck on rice and it was very delicious! Meals were upwards of $20. Felt a little expensive.

I ordered the Lotus stem salad with cashew nuts, but the dish I was given had peanuts, and didn't at all appear to be what I ordered. When I enquired about this I was told that cashew nuts was just the name of the dish, but there are none among the ingredients. This was not was I ordered from the menu, and seems like false advertising to me. Unfortunately I did not like what I was given and didn't finish it. The staff showed little interest to resolve the issue, after giving me a menu and walking off. I won't be back.

Went a few days ago, and found hair baked into one of the components of the broken rice. After telling the staff, they came back and said they'd made it again for us. Well, all they did was put everything on a new plate, and cut off a bit of the piece with the hair sticking out. But the same component with the hair was still there! They didn't realise the hair went through the whole piece. The blatant dishonesty is despicable. This is the 3rd time I have found hair (1st time was inside a spring roll, unluckily for me, I bit into it and pulled the very long hair out of my mouth, it's sickening to think about, the 2nd time was in my friend's pho). It's a real shame, because their food is really delicious, and there's not that many vegan options around the area, but I can't bring myself to go back.

One of the best selection of vegan and vegetarian Vietnamese dishes in Melbourne. There are many different types of Pho and noodle... Nice ambience and quick service.

If there was one place in Melbourne that makes the best vegan pho or bun Bo hue (BBH), this would have to be it. I have no idea how Huong Viet Vegan can create such tasty soups but it doesn’t matter. I’d happily come back for more. Between the pho and BBH, the BBH has the slight edge and is a definite must try.

It truly saddens me to write this review, as this establishment was once my go-to spot in Australia. The food used to be a delightful experience; every dish was packed with flavor and the prices were incredibly reasonable. Visiting felt like a warm catch-up with an old friend, thanks to the impeccable service. Recently, however, things have taken a turn for the worse. Whether there has been a change in management or not, I can't say for sure, but the quality of food has declined to just 'ok.' The prices have seen a noticeable hike, although they still remain somewhat reasonable. What truly disappoints me is the service, which has gone from excellent to simply horrible. It's with a heavy heart that I say this will be my final visit to what was once an extraordinary restaurant.

Great portions, great prices, great food. This place is amazing, if you’re vegan (and even if you’re not) this place is a must visit. Only a five minute walk from Footscray station, making it super convenient. I’d recommend seafood or pork but everything on the menu is delicious. If you need gluten free, most of the tofu and vegetable dishes are okay.

5 stars for the food. Our favourite vegan takeout. However, we have ordered from them twice weekly for the last two years and it is consistently missing items when delivered. Whether it’s rice, sauces, spring rolls to the noodle salad for example, they are all important and it is a major let down when it’s not there. If it’s happening to us all the time, I’m sure it’s happening to others and a clear issue that needs to be addressed and rectified with staff.

I think this is a small family run business? The lead lady attendant is welcoming and says: long-time-no-see! They do remember you as returning patrons. The food is tasty. I love ordering fried spring rolls and rice paper rolls, which are mock meat. I love their chilli sauce; (I'm guessing its homrmade)? The service is quick, and very accommodating. Pleasant atmosphere. The counter area is reminiscent of an old milk bar. They have a simple menu with reasonable prices. You can by card, but they prefer cash. No alcohol It can be a little bit cleaner. I recommend this place.

This little vegan/vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant is located on Leeds st. It's your typical Vietnamese restaurant set up, tissue box on table, cutlery and a chilli oil on the table. The waiter was friendly and had these massive over ear headphones on but it didnt affect his hearing, had me wondering what he was listening too ? We ordered the spring rolls and banh hoi, a d.i.y rice paper roll with fried "fish". Let's start with the spring rolls. They come in a serving of 4 and they are massive. Over half the length of a tablespoon and almost as wide as half the spoon itself ?. It comes with a generous amount of lettuce and mint and a vegan fish sauce. It taste quite similar to normal fish sauce actually. The inside is what you'd find in a typical vego spring roll 5/5. The banh hoi was very interesting, enough to share between two you get a mount of greens, a small jug of peanut chilli dipping sauce and a plate of fine vermicelli and this fried loaf looking thing on top. You're provided with a pair of scissors to cut the "fish" into smaller pieces. The "fish" is quite unique, it's very hard to explain the flavour, it's savoury and a bit seafoodish from the seaweed. Being fried it's nice and crispy when you bite into it. Inside it's not rubbery or mushy nor does it taste like tempeh as most mock meat does. Also there's a process on how to eat this. Dip the rice paper into the water provided, put a layer of vermicelli and some "fish". Then your greens and roll it up like a rice paper roll 4/5. Overall I enjoyed the experience and didn't miss the meat component at all. I'll definitely be back to try their authentic soups like pho, bun bo hue and bun mam.

I found the service to be very good and friendly. I wasn't sure about what to expect not having vietnamese food before and that I'm not vegan. Food was great! Really enjoyed it! Was not a fan of mock meat though, I'd prefer just vegetables going back. Only complaint I can make is Celine Dion on the stereo. That was not great.

I had lemon grass chilli noodle soup for Sunday lunch. Only a few customer in the restaurant as wet & windy day. I waited less than 10 mints to serve my noodle. I know it’s vegetarian restaurant but some topping looks so real meat. Taste was nice and spicy!! But noodle itself let me down little bit as the texture bit soggy. I saw “new menu “ on the wall, such as duck, pork belly, prawn.... Are they fake meat or real?

Delicious and cheap vegan food! Best spring rolls, the mongolian "beef" and BBQ fried rice are also faves. Heavy on the mock meats but you can ask for only veggies if that's not your thing. Just be wary of a couple of dishes that specify egg noodles.

We were long time customers of Huong but after our recent visit we will not be returning. After waiting a while to finally place our order - understandable, they were busy - we received our order after about 20 minutes. Half way through our meal we found a BAND AID in our salt and pepper tofu. We notified staff and they took the plate away to inform us they would make us another one - no thanks!! No apology from the owner or chef. The wait staff member was apologetic but this didn’t seem like a big deal to them at all! We had to refuse to pay for our meal. Sorry, but we won’t be returning!
