I’m very disappointed with our experience here. We called earlier to make a booking and were assured they would have a table for us, we were not asked for our details to confirm the booking, she just said see you at 7:30 and bye. We showed up 5 minutes early and waited to be seated, when asked about booking, we advised them that we had a made a booking but were not asked for details, then the server proceeded to let us know that they didn’t have my more tables but a small one, we were just happy to have a table so we didn’t mind. We sat down and thankfully they cleaned the table and then we ordered our food at the counter, our server was nice. The food came one at time and late. Which was okay but we had the holy guacamole and it was literally just mashed avocados on top of stale tortilla chips. The we ordered 4 chicken tacos and the kids did not even finish it, we had to leave it bc the chicken was burnt and overpowered with the spiciness. My mom did like the chicken burrito tho. I had the vegan burrito bowl, which was honestly just cabbage and like two spoons of the other ingredients, this was also left uneaten. No one checked up on our table to see if enjoyed our food but we were reminded that they were to close soon. We spent $152 and ate not even half of the food, I would probably recommend somewhere else and not this place. The margarita also had too much salt, there was no balance at all. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful place and aesthetically pleasing but the food was definitely not worth it and very very disappointing. The picture is the good we left on the table

Went here for a midweek lunch with work colleagues. Ordering is either via a qr code at the table, but this will incur a 1.5% credit card surcharge, or order at the counter. It is cashless but if you insert your debit card you will not be charged extra. Service is very quick and efficient. Food was ok. I had the chicken quasidilla, the chicken, in my opinion, was underseasoned. Chips were nice.

Snarky host. Food was bland. Food for two guests was served well before our third guest. Had to ask for napkins. Never checked in by staff throughout our visit. Was not told that we had to walk up to order and pay at the register or to order by QR code at our table. Small birds were flying over our table (indoors). The restaurant modo is, "Mi Casa Su Casa". I didn't feel that way at all. The restaurant staff spoke in monotone or snarky like the host. We were walk-in guests and the host made us feel that he was 'doing us a favor' by getting us a table. I'm Mexican American and was rather embarrassed for the business to serve food that was tasteless and poorly presented (see photo). Lastly, I heard no music. It would have been nice to listen to beautiful Mexican music rather than hearing the clanking of dishes from the kitchen. COST: 3 meals, 1 appetizer, 2 margaritas ($20 each), 1 non alcoholic drink = $120 Will not return.

What else can I say, other than the fact that FONDA is on top of their game, very trendy, incredible food, Everything I tried was absolutely beautiful👌🏼 The textures and tastes all together makes for a full home run💥💥💥 The staff were really nice and did a great job at making everyone happy and welcome, I was really impressed. I would definitely recommend FONDA for a night out or even a lunch date between friends or family. I can't wait to come back!🌮🌮🌮👍🏼

Convenient Mr Yum ordering for large groups and speedy service. We ordered Happy Hour drinks for $5-10 before 6pm. Feed Me deal ($55) was good value too (nachos, 2 corn cobs, 2 tacos, 1 quesadilla).

Fonda does not deserve a one star, unfortunately I had to give one to get into write the review. I've hardly review any food experiences I've had in my life. But I took all this time to write this because it deserves one!! It was a shocking experience!. It's promising Mexican food! But it's nothing like Mexican not even remotely close to and the staff and the apparent kitchen staff are not even presenting a Mexican experience, no chef's only some bunch of kitchen hands who are just there to serve reheated food (not made in house, no fresh meat and produce, nothings cooked fresh and served warm). The three mains we ordered apparently on the menu were the "Fonda fav". The Nachos, the grilled chicken taco and salad with sweet potato and chargrilled corn. The food were so bland, old and full of pepper!!!..yes the taco and the salad was covered with ground black pepper...it was shocking an inedible. When we approach the wait staff to feedback about the pepper and the overall food experience, the response we got from the staff member was even more shocking. She was adamant that there's no pepper anywhere in the restaurant and in the kitchen and they don't use pepper no pepper has come from them..when I kept saying check the unfinished plates..(I myself pointed at the pepper and showed it to her how much in the salad bowl and chicken taco)..when pressed hard, her response was none of the grilled chicken made here, in fact nothings made here, the food come from a central kitchen (head office/kitchen) somewhere...so pretty much it's not their fault and she can't take the blame for the pepper and the bad food (none of the food made in house) What's even more shocking is that she never once said sorry that we had a bad experience and never earned upto it..she (I'd say this was a teenager with no manners or the right attitude) was adamant that they are right and even if the food is bad they are not sorry because it's not cooked there!!. She was very loud and kept going defending how they cannot simply do anything or have no response to what we had to say or what we experienced. I told her that when a customer complaint or feedback or have something to say, they should take it on board, say sorry and accommodate at least listen and respond in a manner..of course I'm in front of them (imagine if you'd take away) I then asked for the manager.. guess what. This staff member goes to the back of the counter spend a minute or two, she talked to somebody, come out and says 'we will refund your order", that's it. No manager came out. Not even to respond to what we had to say. Not even to say sorry or ask what they could do about it..not even to ask what's wrong with the food. Not even to face a customer who is really not happy with what they just served. What's shocking about the whole experience was 1) nothing like Mexican..it's a shame to the Mexicans and their food 2) overly priced..cheap old (worst than fast food) bland food 2)Worst customer service 3) Worst staff and management So I say never waste your money there!. NEVER GIVE YOUR MONEY. They cheat and steal your money. I'm sure anybody could make better Mexican at home than FONDA!!. It will be a money well spent on fresh homemade food.

Got served by a curly haired guy with a striped shirt on 24th Feb 2020. He was sarcastic and rude. I left the bar straight away. Looks like a nice place but the service is abysmal.

Delicious Mexican food in the south east of the city. Chips were A+ and the burritos were filling and super tasty. You order using the QR code on the table. The staff are friendly and food is brought out quickly. Nice place to come and treat yourself.

Excellent service but the food is not great. You’re better off visiting a fast food Mexican place and paying less. FOOD The crispy prawn tacos and watermelon & lime drink were nice! Main issue is that the food is quite cold. First visit I thought that was because I ordered a burrito bowl, but the second time even the tacos were served cold! Most of the food was a bit bland as well. Mac and cheese croquettes had no cheese flavour, but they had a good texture. Chips were okay. Soda wasn’t too sweet. SERVICE Fantastic service. First time I called to book an hour in advance for 3 as they didn't have any free tables on their website, and they reserved a table for us. Second time booked ahead for a table of 10+ for a work gathering. When we had a couple of no shows they were very understanding! I'd recommend ordering at the counter over the QR code as I've had issues with it.

🇲🇽 mexican food 🐟 fonda classic salad with fish 🌮 market fish taco 🍤 crispy prawn taco 🐽 mexico city pulled pork quesadilla 🌽 tortilla chips 🏠: @fondamexican 📍: Flinders Lane ———————————————————— 📝: Had a massive Mexican food craving the last few weeks so visited Fonda a few times for their tasty range. ❤️: Loved the Fonda Salad with chicken and fried fish, super tasty and filling. Also got the nachos to start, of course. Didn’t miss out on the tacos and quesadilla as well.

the food was really delicious, and so were the alcoholic drinks. the staff were very friendly and the restaurant looked good. the table my friend and I was quite small, so it was difficult to comfortably fit all our plates on our table.

Nachos were good, not amazing. The Tortillas were mixed and were nice. | Zucchini chips had good batter and not too oily | Just FYI, they don’t sell coffee

The four of us had lunch here mid-week. Overall a good experience, efficient service and good vibes. Could have a been a five star rating if it wasn’t for a few minor things. The good: sharing plates were great, we had the sweet potato chips and nachos, both were fresh, crunchy and well spiced. For mains we had the bim-bap bowl which is a nice take on the Korean version, and then the fish, prawn and beef tacos, all were good and well executed. The margaritas where as expected too, maybe slightly to sweet but nothing major. The not-so-good: The fried cauliflower we had for starters was a bit disappointing generally and more specifically a few pieces were frozen throughout. I understand not all dishes can be cooked fresh, but at least make sure they’re cooked all the way. Other than that a few hot sauces on the side and more authentic Mexican flavours wouldn’t go amiss.

My 2 cents: Worst dining experience so far in Melbourne. The "guacamole" was just half smashed avocado 🥑 with no flavor whatsoever (salt no where to be found, not to mention spices). The lime & bitter was just sprite and water casually living in the same glass as lemon 🙃 . The worst money spent 😪 in a while.

When we went in, it didn't really give me a Mexican vibe but it was nice, clean and bright. We ordered the feed me (for 2) set and ordered a few drinks. The drinks were OK and then the food started arriving ... (cue lively happy music!) Each dish was great. My favourites were the nachos and the grilled corn. The tacos and quesadillas were great too. By the end of the it, I was so full and would have preferred to be rolled out! :) (Sorry no pics of nachos as it looked so good that we just dove into it) Will need to go back and try the burritos.

Food was pretty decent, quesadillas were pretty nice, tacos were nice. Lighting in the venue is not great. Staff were okay, a bit dismissive. Fine place for starting off a night of drinking. Wouldn't recommend for a fancy dinner or special occasion.

went here with a Melbourne local. and it’s very hip and busy. food was above average (and a mean that in a very positive way). Margaritas were bomb - particularly the chili and lime. (although thought it would be a good idea to eat the decorative chili….. it wasn’t). only criticism was we were loving it. eating. drinking. but then we’re asked to leave. the place was busy but not overly. and we had made designs onto order more drinks and continue our catching up. didn’t really like this.

Unfortunately, this was not such a good experience. They seemed to be very short-staffed. We ordered 2 dishes via the QR code at our table, 1st dish arrived and was really good. 2nd dish didn't come till 20 mins later and was not good, cold and meat was dry and salty. No tables were cleared during our time there, so lots of dirty dishes. Staff were nice but seemed very stressed.

On arrival our table was sticky, it hadn’t been wiped over well. We ordered everything at the bar and food and drinks came quite quickly. Service was friendly and attentive. Everything was tasty, but don’t understand why nothing comes out hot. Vibe was good, music and other customers not too loud so our party of 5 was able to chat without shouting. Good for a casual meal.

The restaurant has an interesting layout with an open kitchen, which I actually thought was cool. You order food from the QR code in the tables which was a cool idea but made modifications a little more difficult. The food was delicious. The service was very friendly but a little inconsistent on wait time but if you’re in good company it will be fine. I recommend Fonda. Get the Chicken Nachos!

Great place for work lunches/dinners. Nice seating available. I got the lunch set menu and a fish taco. The fish taco is very fresh but lacks a bit of flavour. The pulled pork quesadilla is amazing with the sauce.

This place is fun and vibrant. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I had the margarita tasting paddle and was delicious. I ordered the fish taco and beef brisket tacos. They were a bit of a let down with dry tortillas and the fish taco was not tasty and I couldn’t finish it. Friends I went with ordered quesadillas and a burrito and said they were fantastic. Would try again to try other things on the menu.

Overall had a decent experience at Fonda Mexican at Flinders Lane! The restaurant itself was really cool and unique! The venue is in a cool and interesting location! The ascetics of the place was really cool! The food was delicious aswel! We had 4 cocktails all of which where delicious, 2 tacos (chicken & pork) and the chicken and pork quesadillas plus the nachos! The food tasted fresh and delicious! The only reason I didn’t give Fonda Mexican a 5 star review was because of the service! I found the service to be underwhelming and not the nicest! At best it was bare minimum! No smiles sadly! Otherwise the food was delicious and it was a fun night out! :) 4/5 stars from me :)

House made soda was amazing. I had pineapple and lime. The corn on the cob was very nice. Good spices. I had gluten free and vegan burrito. I've never been able to order that at a restaurant. It was fresh and tasty. It had mushrooms and spinach in it. Very interesting flavours. Only bad thing about the place is that you have to go up stairs to get to the restaurant, but that's not their fault. Very busy place. Loved it.

  • 4/5 Bella B. 1 year ago on Google
Nice enough food. 6 items cost $98, so not the cheapest food chain. The burrito bowls have a nice twist with crisp chick peas. Staff were very friendly.

The restaurant is situated in a good location. The food is merely average. The tortilla in particular didn't taste good. The staff member who served me and my friends was accommodating and friendly though. I've eaten in another Fonda restaurant before and the food didn't taste good either. Other Mexican restaurants are certainly better. I won't be eating at Fonda again.

  • 5/5 Matt K. 1 year ago on Google
Was certainly not disappointed trying out this modern mexican restaurant. The fact that it was crowded was testament to its popularity. The food taste great although I don't think the flavours are truely mexican. The fries were especially nice, the burritos bowl was to die for, and the service staffs were excellent. Would eat here everyday if I were to live here.

We had our work Christmas party here. Plan ahead if you're driving in, will take you longer than you think getting in! There are many prepay parking options in the area that you can book online in advance. Fonda Flinders Lane has a nice vibe. Pretty busy the night we went but volume not so loud you couldn't have a conversation with friends. Easy order system with QR code at table. Took a while to get our drinks though. Most of our food came together, but we were a group of 11 so can't expect everyone to get their food all at once. Had the fish and barbacoa beef burrito, along with nachos and loaded chips. Other people had the bowls- very generous servings for all of it. Also tried the horchata milk drink- Milky ice cinnamon drink. Pretty refreshing!

We stopped in for a quick bite before the theatre. As we had had a late lunch we shared a nachos and had churros each for dessert, although we could have easily shared those too. We ordered a taste tester paddle of margaritas which were nice. Great relaxed vibe, order by QR code which I love, friendly staff, we will be back!

Walked in at 6:30 on a Friday night & we were lucky to get a table for two. This is the biggest Fonda restaurant we’ve ever been too & it was pumping, the service was good, food was delicious, great atmosphere & reasonably priced…. Can’t wait to go back for more.

We were very kindly greeted by the staff upon arrival. You order at the front and they will bring you your food. The quesadilla was exquisite and I enjoyed the atmosphere, too. A nice, moderately priced meal in a cool part of town. Definitely a good option if you're looking for mid-level Mexican food (not too pricey but nice enough).

Great atmosphere and ambience. Been here twice recently. The food is a little expensive given the sizes and it's pretty average taste, albeit it was healthy and colourful. Drinks are ridiculously overpriced, absolutely absurd. Chips were great. Location unreal. 7.5/10

Attended at 5pm on a Monday before going to a Big Bash game. Right from our arrival the service was fantastic. Young girl showed us to our table, explained everything to us, as this was our first time here. Very happy and bubbly. Ordered a nachos to share, for our family of 4. Was probably a little small, but made up it that with taste. All the meals had the freshest produce and tasted fantastic. The drinks were a little pricey, $19 for a watermelon and lime margarita that had alot of ice. Overall a very good experience and meal. We will definitely be back.

These guys do alright mexican food. I ordered four different tacos and only really enjoyed two of them (the prawn and beef were really flavours one and tasty, the fish tasted like just fish and the chicken had too much sauce). I just feel like this place is too ‘big’ and so it’s lost it’s charm. Unfortunately covid hasn’t helped that vibe, as it feels as though you’re just being ‘churned through’. Once you order you barely have time to relax and let the meal sit before staff are asking you to finish up for the next booking. Not my favourite mexican but wouldn’t not return.

This place was great to eat at, good food, cheap price as we had an offer for the time we arrived we used. The staff are very friendly to us and to each other. Having the kitchen open is nice to see as it's all clean. The style with the lighting is brilliant to admire. The sodas they have in Fonda are refreshing and the food was delicious and filling.

Decent food and portion size, loved the margaritas. The salad could have some dressing as it seems bit dry. Will definitely go back

Very nice place and great cocktails. Food is tastey but could be a bit more spicy. Definitely toned down the spice for the Australian pallet. ?

Good staff. Tasty tacos. Great cocktails. The place is a little noisy but that could be covid isolation talking. Also the ordering system is quite nifty. Fish taco is the top pic. The hot sauce could be amped up a bit in heat but was very tasty.

Good food, and pretty cool atmosphere! This is a decent place to get mexican food in the CBD, it can get really busy on some days for lunch, which is slightly annoying with their counter style ordering. However, most of the food tasted great. Out of all their meat selection, i prefer the Grilled chicken on my Taco's / Burritos. It tastes awesome and more unique than the beef or other options. The food is also not spicy, and they have free hot sauce available for people who want an extra kick.
