😠 I rarely write bad reviews but I had to let this out. Me and my brother visited Menya for a quick lunch. First of all, bad service and attitude. Cheap lunch yes, but my udon was barely edible. Soup tasted like salty water, udon was sour I was really disappointed. Brother’s gyudon was literally piled... People often mention portion, sauce, rice, ordered, staff, taste, price, curry,

Inconsistent quality/taste! Went there twice in a span of two weeks. First time food was delicious but the second time it was just not good. The second time there I ordered teriyaki beef katsu don - the beef didn't taste anything like meat and mushrooms were just too chewy/rubbery. Other than this portion sizes are generous, decent price and friendly staff.

Insta: markandelly_eats An oldie but a goodie! Iconic cheap eats all uni students know about. Unagi, which btw was gigantic, was super creamy and flavourful, and egg was perfectly cooked. Not to mention, this mountain of rice packed underneath. Like wow the return for money is off the chart 📈 Quickest way to get full if you are on a student budget. Curry Beef Don and Tempura Udon was not bad at all. Curry and udon broth tasted a tad bland but decent overall. Personally liked Unagi Don the most! Seems like Gyu Tan Don is what everyone else gets here - keen to try that next time! 📍Menya Ramen 📍439 Elizabeth St, Melbourne 📍Unagi Don ($14), Curry Beef Don ($11), Tempura Udon ($13) 📍11:00am - 9:30pm everyday

By far the worst "gyudon" I've ever had in my life. Like who puts green peas and carrots in a gyudon? Plus it's super oily and tasteless. If i could rate it 0 stars i would!

I think this shop is pretty much giving up their business considering for a bowl of 21 dollars beef tongue rice, they only gave one thin layer of beef tongue just to hide all the rice down there. If you look for a replacement, go to Ikkai, it's in CBD as well and they give a lot more beef tongue comparing to this and it's cheaper.

Menya is a classic of the CBD, especially for the many students in the area. I’ve witnessed their famed Gyutan Don (with egg) gone up in price from $9.5 to a whopping >$19!! So overpriced, so it’s a once-a-year treat down memory lane

Quite generous portion for the price paid. Too small and limited seatings. At times, can be tight inside when busy.

Ordered a portion of Gyu Tan Don and extra meat. The regular portion comes at $22 and $8 for extra meat. So after paying $30, the bowl that comes to the table had so little meat that i had to go up to the counter and confirmed if this had the extra $8 meat that i paid for. The staff brazenly said yes and went along her way. Very ridiculous rip off compared to the other branch, this place has always been known to be stingy with its portion size but to think that they would openly do this to a $30 order is just ridiculous. Will never eat here again.

The curry was the worst I've had. No flavor. Curry should be full of flavor, lots of ingredients. There were no ingredients except potatoes and rice with pork and curry sauce on top. Plain, boring, bad curry.

Located in Melbourne Central, Swanston street entrance. Order at counter or scan QR code at the table. Small place, quick service and friendly staff. I ordered Menya ramen with seafood and slice pork, taste was good. This shop offer daily special menu from $10.90.

Amazing place. Thank you for the consistency in your quality since 2010. I still order the same dish # 8 Beautiful delicious and fresh. If I lived in the CBD you’d be my adoptive mother.

I ordered the veggie curry don to go. I even asked the staff to confirm that even the curry was vegetarian, and when my ticket number was called out I showed the staff the ticket so she could confirm the order and the ticket number before handing me the takeaway in a bag. I then went all the way home carrying my meal only to get home and discover it's CHICKEN CURRY. There is SO MUCH CHICKEN in there and the curry tastes like chicken. I'm a pescatarian so I'm fortunately unlikely to get as sick as a vegetarian or vegan but but now I'm hungry and angry and my money was wasted. I can't even request a refund or get it replaced because I would have to make the journey back. Avoid this place at all costs if you have dietary restrictions or allergies because they clearly do not care.

Been craving their gyutan don for so long and craving satisfied! We ordered the oyako don also since it was that day specials. The Gyutan don still as good as I remembered, but the Oyako don taste not so 'Japanese food', maybe because of the shitake mushroom was one of the ingredients. The service was good and the staff was friendly.

Hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Man muss nicht lange warten, bekommt ein Getränk umsonst und kann in aller Ruhe das gute Essen genießen. Die Leute sind sehr freundlich und unkompliziert. Weiter so !!!

Came here for lunch, the portion was quite generous but its tasted just ok and does not taste like Japanese food. Customer service was quick and friendly. The ambiance was so small.

The worst ramen I ever tried in my life. The soup look like only water. Pork is bad. They are Chinese not Japanese. Worst ramen ever…

One of the worst restaurants I've ever tried. I'm not sure if the customer service it's worse than the food or viceversa, but what I know is that I had the worse experience ever. The food quality is very bad, barely eatable. The tonkatsu ramen tastes of nothing, worse than instant noodles, I can't even understand how this place can be popular. It tastes disgusting, it's a torture to eat. The Asian lady today (06/12) was extremely rude, no manners at all when taking my order, she seems so frustrated and unwilling to work. I don't require much, but seriously it seems like she was making me a favor for ordering. After ordering she just literally point out a place to sit (with no manners) where all the bowls from previous customers were still there and the table was dirty and she didn't even bother to clean a bit. Think about to sit down and waiting for your food with the dirty dishes in front of you on the table. AVOID THIS PLACE.

I ordered unagi don for takeaway , but the waiter gave me very little sauce, unlike the day before I ordered it. So I asked the waiter. Could I have more sauce ? coz the sauce was supposed to get was the normal amount but this time is less sauce. but the staff said I had to pay more 1 aud for the sauce ! The sauce that comes with unagi don should be in the right amount with portion of food!

Huge portion food. Can share for two people. Delicious but a bit cramped because it's not too big on the space.

For a cheap price, you can get very full. This restaurant give you the best offers for your amount of money. The food also taste very authentic and delicious. Remember to wait for it to cool down a bit since they serve it fresh out of the pan.

This place is definitely 5 ⭐️ for me A nice cozy Japanese eatery in Melbourne central near the swanston entrance. What I had today was chicken Katsu don. Let’s break it down Rice Often forgotten part of a rice bowl, the most important of them all. Rice was cooked well and not sticky. Omelette Omg, this was out of the world, so fluffy and soft Chicken, a bit dry and a bit thin but perfect for a weekday lunch, no complaints. It was nice and crispy Will be back for more

I ordered Katsu Don. The quantity of rice in the bowl was quite generous but the sauce was insufficient in my opinion. The chicken cutlet was also ok. Since the quantity of sauce was not sufficient, I was unable to finish the rice. This place is good for students.

We usually go for the gyudon which is still very tasty but like many other things, the price has gone up significantly!

Chicken Katsudon is very delicious. Most of their dishes with rice are very tasty actually.

Food: 4/5 The food is simple and affordable. Really convenient for students like myself. I usually get the Yasai Ramen (vegetarian). Not authentic Japanese, but it is to be expected for the price you’re paying. I’m giving 4/5 solely for this. The lady serving greeted warmly.

I'm not too picky, but for the sake of y'all I wouldn't recommend. Their best dish is $21 and is just barely worth it. It's easy and fast unless you are a real foodie and have had better.

Great Japanese food. They separated the chicken katsu and the udon, so it’s great! Definely recommended. The sashimi is bought from other shop.

Good portion sizes but Salmon Teriyaki Bowl is more tofu than salmon - this ingredient was not mentioned in the menu. Mango pudding is straight up super sweet custard and doesn't have mango chunks as displayed in the menu.
