If you’re looking for a quick drunk feed, this is the place. The service here was really bad. They threw food onto the table like it was an inconvenience to them. Id only recommend the pan fried dumplings because everything else was just awful, and even then, the pan fried dumplings were below average. Cold spring rolls, noodles that taste like spaghetti, bland wontons, this place is a no.

Less than $10 for 15 dumplings! Great value for money, but lacks flavour. The noodles were a little bland, and the sweet deep fried milk buns with condensed milk was my favourite. There are plenty of seating upstairs and you can order via QR code. The chilli oil costs $1 extra, but you need it with dumplings! It tasted quite unique, had peppercorns in it I enjoyed it. Overall, it’s a good place for cheap eats in the Melbourne CBD, also great for big groups too!

I would say I don’t feel happy after eating at the place, the dish has no taste. Although they have a lot of customers. The Chinese kailan was too big, I can’t eat the whole thing. The portion of the food is quite generous. Inside the shop looked quite old. They don’t have the paper menu, only the digital one. They can’t split the bill and charge additional 1% if you use the card for payment.

I visited for quick lunch for me. One Long hair half-melted and stick on a couple of dumplings. The restaurant is old and dirty. The taste is bland and tasteless. I would pay more to have a good Chinese dumpling.

An absolute hidden gem in Melbourne’s China Town! We were looking something to eat with a family. We stumbled across this little Chinese restaurant. It was incredibly busy inside the smells were exceptionally appealing! Don’t expect fancy dishes, service or experience. The food, however, is stand out! The small menu is full of absolutely delicious treats!! We would highly recommend the chicken and prawn steamed dumplings! A wonderful find!

Was expecting great authentic dumplings and a mix of Shanghai street cuisine, but this establishment, whilest busy - was quite a disappointment last night. Our dumplings lacked the taste and variety to compete with the mass dumpling market available and the spring onion pancakes were hard as cardboard and bland, with a side serve of oiliness. Roast pork buns were the highlight for us, but even they were pretty average and only shone in comparison to the other dishes. Excessively noisy, dirty with outdated decor- hard to get any service or ask questions from the staff- all food had to be ordered thru barcode and staff only dump the dishes or cans of drink on the table and run off, ignoring questions. No seperate billing- whole table must pay together. Best I can say....quick turnaround of food and customers, but I won't be back!

If you like no frills Asian then this is probably your place. Prices are reasonable. For me the food isn’t anything to rave home about, however does have a homely feel to it. I saw one of the cooks as I was waiting to pay and we smiled at each other, she reminded me of family. The smile from her made the experience worthwhile.

You come here for the cheap dumplings, not an amazing experience of service or ambience. In terms of value, very good. Just don't expect high quality dumplings, vibes, service. Lot of young people here, cause it's cheap and filling. Not great, but not bad. Good for a abng for your buck meal.

This place has so many floors and the kitchen absolutely pumps. The whole concept floored me. We loved our fried rice. It was delish. Dumplings were nice too.

All 4 stars for the food! It’s tough finding good food being vegetarian in Australia especially Chinese cuisine, but their veg dumplings were simply the best. I can’t believe I had almost 15 of them, so light and good. Spring onion pancake was little bland. Tried their custard buns for dessert, looked divine but dint taste as good. Quick service, very nominal prices. Very crowded and noisy place.

Food was okay, some taste good some taste plain. Had to say that their food is not authentic and definitely not great shanghai food. The atmosphere is even worst, dirty and old. You will need a torchlight with you if you ever need to go to male bathroom. As the walkway has no light and you had to climb a stairs in that situation.

The xiao long bao was so good and the steamed lamb dumplings were phenomenal. Even the Chinese broccoli in Gatling sauce is great. The service is no fuss and always a busy bus sling atmosphere

Although the interior and exterior looked impressive, unfortunately the food was lacking. The staff also looked like they didn’t want to be there and served us without acknowledging us at all. Just placed it on the table and left. The wonton soup was awful, I don’t know what they did to the spinach, but it tasted like seaweed. The silken bean curd in chilli sauce did not have enough flavour and spice. I do recommend the custard egg buns, the Xiaolongbao and the fried rice, but I would not go here specifically for these dishes. Maybe they had a bad day when we came in, or a different chef to usual, but I wouldn’t recommend this place.

    - Sweet and sour pork: flavour was nice, but the batter wasn't crispy - Spring rolls: crispy and tasty, but very small. Seemed like two were just cut in half - Spring onion pancake: crunchy and flavoursome. I enjoyed these a lot

We came across this place on a bustling Saturday night in Chinatown. Inside it was very full and with a buzzing atmosphere. There was fairly loud music playing. If you don’t like that then maybe come here not on the weekend. But it was a fun place to be on a Saturday night. Quality and quantity of food is very good. Made fresh to order and served hot. It is good for vegetarians and vegans. The Sichuan Peppercorn Chilli oil which is vegan is great with all the dishes. Dumplings are decent to good.

Good chinese food and reasonable price. Not very comfortable atmosphere but not terrible either. People talking make the noise loud here but it's still possible to have a conversation.

Fantastic food and great prices! The wontons with chilli oil were very fresh and delicious filling. I was told later they were made fresh that morning! Dumplings and hargow were also great. Fast service too. Order by QR code but pay at the counter.

Food was just okay. Doesn’t taste authentic and the noodles were really bland. The dumplings were good but the rest were underwhelming. Coming from an asian country with so much Chinese restaurants, this doesn’t make the cut. Chinese food can be so much better. The service was a plus because the food came really really fast. The building was also quite nice.

Visited Shanghai Village early afternoon for lunch, back again after 3 years. We ordered 1 steamed pork dumplings - 15 pieces 1 steamed beef dumpling - 12 pieces 1 beef fried rice. The pork dumplings came first , rather bad presentation and just food put on the table. We then asked for chilli oil which came after at-least 10-15 minutes on asking the waiter who seemed extremely over worked. 1 waiter serving and clearing plates of the entire ground floor. He didn’t seem to happy. The beef dumplings then came in next which tasted alright but the flavour was enhanced by the Chilli Oil. The Beef Rice was then served to us with 7 pieces of beef cut up and hidden in the rice. Approximately 14$ which didn’t justify the helping. It would be nice if the restaurant could have more staff who are happier. He was a great waiter however was very very over worked this the level of service wasn’t up to the mark. Additionally if the food presentation was enhanced it would have many more people visiting the restaurant. I would say with the current competition the service and food should be the main focus.

Really good and cheap. Tried their vegan duck noodles and the vegan dumplings. The dumplings were really good. Added some extra chilli and soy sauce to make mock duck noodles a bit better. Overall the food was good. But the atmosphere can be quite busy and noisy. So be aware! Check out my food reviews on Insta 🌱 - @sarathinmelbourne

DON’T BELIEVE THE GOOD REVIEWS! Save your time and money and do not bother eating here! The food took more than an hour to be served, and it was served completed all over the place. We got one dish, then another 20 minutes later, then another 5 minutes later, so on. When it arrived it was cold and not appetising at all. It lacked flavour and tasted like it was straight from the freezer section at Woolies. They don’t give plates for you to eat on, only paper cups and disposable chopsticks and cutlery. Absolutely appalling. The service was not great at all. We ordered 2 Sunkist Cans and were told they only had 1, which was fine! We changed the order. But then the waiter walked past drinking a can of sunkist! It was a joke. The waitstaff seemed so bored and uninterested. We sat around for 90 minutes hungry, bored and unimpressed. Don’t waste your time.

Good for a quick, no frills, inexpensive Chinese meal. A casual, laid back eatery, good for those on the go. Food comes to the table quickly, and is unpretentious. If you’re seeking a restaurant that has complexity of flavour, presentation or ambience, this isn’t the right one for you. This is a place great for people seeking a quick bite that won’t cost an arm and a leg, but will still fill you up. I had the fried veggie dumplings, and the red bean pancake. The texture of the dumplings wasn’t quite right but were filling. The paste on the pancake was unevenly distributed (copious on some sections and missing from others) but was tasty. I do rate the Szechuan chilli oil; that was delicious. Free unlimited tea is a perk. Also they label their vegetarian/ vegan options which is thoughtful and convenient.

The restaurant did not give us the 15 dumplings in our order and we were quite disappointed (as listed in the receipt). The restaurant ticked it off on our receipt but it was nowhere to be found. Be careful when you takeaway food here! Otherwise, avoid ordering the scallion pancake and mantou, they were on the doughy side. Noodles were fine. Dumplings were decent but our missing order dampened our spirits.

$2.50 BYO and great food. Service is quick and overall great atmosphere. Came here with a large group with no booking and they accommodated for us straight away. Only had to wait for 5 minutes till we were seated.
