This is literally one of the best spots to view the sunset and sunrise along with the city night lights. We spent about 30 to 60 minutes here watching the sun set and admiring the night lights. It was surprisingly not as cold as expected. I'd arrive there at least an hour before because there are a lot of people and not much parking however, there is also street parking near Point Ormond playground, a lot of traffic too but it's well worth it!

One of the best beach and city skyline lookouts in Melbourne. No one tells you how crazy windy it is on the hill though. Gets packed on beautiful days full of picnickers looking to catch the sunset. There is paid parking until midnight nearby.

Point Ormond Lookout is a great place for some amazing views of the city across the water. Especially spectacular at sunset, as the setting sunlight reflects off the buildings. Great views of the beaches too. A good space to stretch your legs or have a picnic. The perfect spot on a fine evening.

Amazing lookout with an excellent sea breeze. Views of the entire Melbourne city skyline. Recommend to come just before sunset to start a relaxing evening!

UPDATE: The point is now open. At the time of writing, the point is currently being upgraded and cannot be accessed. However, the beach is very calm and a fantastic spot to watch the sunset. Toilet facilities are nearby and if you're smart about parking can do so for free in clearways or various local roads. Otherwise paid parking is available, but you won't catch me using it.

A good place for walking and cycling, the effect will be better in the evening. There is a sloping grassland suitable for children to run. Facing the sea, you can see the high-rise buildings of the City from a distance. The scenery is good!

A non-windy day in winter in Melbourneis very uncommon and forgetful. Felt so much peace today. Enjoyed the walk to st kilda beach.

Absolute peaceful vibrancy here… read the plaque nearby of the original tribe that occupied the area. This spot was special to them 💖 it seems to be for people today too. We drove to nearby gelato at Piccolina and a cappuccino a few doors down. Lovely afternoon jaunt on Australia Day for 2 Stateside gals 🇺🇸

Nice view....one side look to quite silent Melbourne side, and one side look to CBD. It is a really good chance to see the sunset to this point. Good for reading, calming...

This is quite a remarkable place. We visited there on new year eve as we wanted to stay away of the city rush and traffic. The fireworks were visible from a distance and were quite great. Being at a distance, you are unable to hear the sound of fireworks. Many people there on new year eve and hence it is impossible to find parking if you are coming last minute.

Amazing lookout place where you can view the whole city and ocean. You also can walk to st Kilda by 25mins and the walking trail is lovely. We also found a seal!

We did not realise that this was such a really popular spot for anyone to check out the sun setting… it was cold during early August 2023 but still many came… we enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere…

The Point Ormond Lookout is a picturesque spot that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Located in Elwood, this lookout provides a panoramic vista of Port Phillip Bay, the Melbourne skyline, and the beautiful coastline. It's a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, with its tranquil atmosphere and stunning sunsets. Whether you're looking to take in the natural beauty, enjoy a leisurely walk along the nearby beach, or simply unwind and appreciate the view, Point Ormond Lookout is a must-visit location for anyone exploring Melbourne. I highly recommend visiting Point Ormond Lookout, especially to witness its breathtaking sunsets.

Beautiful views across the bay to the city of Melbourne and also across the bay. A popular location for bike riders. The hill also makes this a popular spot interval running training. Nice spot to just sit and take in the view - awesome on a sunny day - usually quite windy here!

A simple lookout, but with such gorgeous view of the sea and city! Plenty of cyclists stop here for a rest and to take in the view from the top. There’s a children playground and bbq area across the lookout, so overall a great place for family gatherings, picnics and beach time! You can walk here from St Kilda Beach, but I suggest taking Bus 246, which will take you here too. Plenty of space for parking too.

This is a breathtaking 180 degree view over Port Philip bay, Melbourne CBD and Elwood beach. It’s also one of the windiest point, so be prepared! 😅 If you arrive early enough to get a good spot, you’ll have a spectacular view of New Year’s Eve fireworks 💥

Point Ormond lookout —— Beautiful sea near Melbourne which is st. Kilda, very easy to travel, can be reached by tram and bus, only 30 minutes from the city, when you arrive you will find an amusement park, a beach. Most people like to watch the sunset and take a picnic here. By sitting and watching the sun at Point Ormond Lookout This is a small hill that we can see the city as well. The clear water and the sky stretch as far as the eyes. Around the beach, there is a way for running, exercising and cycling. There is a garden and playground as well.

Great place to watch the sun go down over the ocean at sunset Streetside parking is metered. lots of groups of friends and lovers and families gathered here, it's not a bad place to people watch at sunset. Only complaint is the complete lack of nearby food & beverage probably a nice place to run/cycle as well, a good track runs along the beach.

One of the best spots to watch the sunset in Melbourne. Really good views of the sea, the skyline and the bay. You definitely won't be the only one in good weather, there are a lot of people coming. You are guaranteed to find a place, but it might be worth coming a little earlier so that you can find a really good one. I can highly recommend it for a picnic.

This place is amazing with the beach right behind you. I went there with my girlfriend at night and we had an amazing time. We had the whole beach to ourselves. Bring your own food if you are planning to stay for an hour or two. The views are mind blowing. Tip: bring a mat or portable chair for your beach time as the sand can get pretty cold at night!

Point Ormond has provides some great views of Melbourne's skyline and Port Philip Bay. There's a dedicated cycle track and walking path, and the area in general is great for sunsets and sunrises. Dogs are allowed in most places on-leash, and is definitely a recommended place when visiting the area.

As bike tracks go this is pretty good. There was mostly a dedicated bike path on our ride from Brighton to Port Melbourne section of the path which extends much further south. Mostly flat. Great mid morning on a week day as it is not so busy.

A great lookout point in the city, regardless of the season. Best time to come is during sunset, the views are simply stunning. It can get a bit windy and cold, bring along a jacket to keep warm. Perfect spot for a picnic or a BBQ.

  • 5/5 ng wei p. 1 year ago on Google
Visited this lookout during the sunset. A beautiful scenery to take with the Melbourne City backdrop. The park is suitable for the kids as there is a newly renovated big playground. Furthermore, you can park your car there and walk to another tourist attraction, which is the Bathing boxes.

  • 5/5 Melb T. 1 year ago on Google
Great lookout to city skyline in any weather! Watch the frothy, black sea swells under a threatening sky or a stunning sunset in good weather. Continous Bay trail for cyclists & foot traffic with interesting artwork & info. Dogs on leash but seems like this is ignored. Upgrade is finished & much welcome though Council could have replaced the ugly white beacon with a sculpture. Toilets nearby & Cafe further up. Upgraded playground with BBQ but limited tables. Timed parking - hefty charges. Elwood Beach nearby has Life surfers in summer. Canal flows into bay very close by - so observe water quality warnings esp. after heavy rain.

Great place for locals to go for a jog in the morning and perfect spot to walk to after work on a hot afternoon or to looki at the city veiws while the sun goes down. Although there are drinking stations I would BYO water. Oh and don't bother swimming after rain as it is quite close to storm water outlet.
