Took our family for breakfast, to celebrate our younger daughter's birthday. Helpful, friendly staff. Grandchildren enjoyed playing board games while waiting for their food, while the four adults enjoyed a hot drink. Breakfasts were excellent. We'll be visiting again!

Our favourite pub in Shardlow. Staff very friendly, fun, and inviting. Friday fish and chips are absolutely amazing. Awesome selection of beers. The pork pies with complementary pickles are just too good to miss! We always take a couple home for a late night feast! The only pub I've ever been to with board games printed on every table with pieces available behind the bar. Full selection of games from kids snakes and ladders to monopoly and Scrabble. Not forgetting the beautiful wood burning stove set centrally within the pub. A must visit for anyone visiting the fabulous historical canal port of Shardlow.

We were served by a very pleasant lady who offered to make my friend a sandwich as she was hungary . The teas and coffees were fine. Loved the tables they all board games on them , it looks like they have games nights . Looks like a great local.

My best friend and I nipped out for some lunch and found this gem of a place - right by the canal - great viewing of boats coming and going - the greeting we got inside was genuine and friendly - the food blew us both away - my best friend had the steak pie and I had the chicken and leek one - every morsel was totally delicious - proper home cooked chips - wow and to top it all proper gravy!! It’s the best meal we have both had our in a very long time - excellent - can’t recommend it highly enough

Good proper pub grub at good prices. The pies were great - slices of a big pie just like the old school dinners style and very tasty. Good to see a varied selection even on a Sunday. Nice place.

Love this place. Nice breakfast beside the canal, then plenty to see on a local walk. Great choice of beers when you get back.

Fantastic little local, they focus on different food on different days and does it properly. Good beer and live music. They tick all the boxes. Be aware they are only licenced for children on the premises until 8, which caught us out, but wasn't a major issue and they were very polite about it.

The food is amazing - great range of drinks too. Staff are friendly and the outside area is really nice. There is parking but at busy times it's worth parking over the road at the larger public car park

Lovely location, great staff and excellent food. Whilst other local pubs were quiet this one was clearly popular and well deserved too.

Lovely staff, fantastic service and a toastie real fire. One bar chap in particular made a big fuss of our dog. He asked if he'd like some water and if he was allowed treats. He then brought him a fresh bowl of water and jar of treats. A great place to call in mid walk. Highly recommended.

Went last Sunday to the port festival my wife had problems with her mobility scooter. The landlord went out out of his way to find us a replacement wheelchair. Really saved the day for us putting himself about on a busy Sunday. Thank you sir you were a life saver

The service was friendly and the food which was homemade came out in good timing..the menu was homely and traditional but also had some great favourites....lovely little spot after a circular walk 4.8 k around derwent heritatge...if you want to go with a smaller or bigger group be sure to book as this place is popular for the village.

Amazing pub - fantastic service and absolutely delicious food. Especially Thai night on Thursdays - but you will need to book for this. The staff are so friendly - can’t do enough to help you. Ukrainian connections so it’s good to support a local business like this. Well done The Malt!!! 😌

My partner took me for a breakfast to celebrate my birthday, so on the day I said nothing because I didn't wont to spoil the day, but the food was not good at all any other day I would have sent it back, the bacon and sausage over done and the black pudding so over done it would give any coaster a run for it's money, very disappointing will never be going again. A real shame it spoiled the day for my partner who wanted to treat me on my birthday.

6 of us booked a table early on a Friday evening. Great food (limited menu - Fish Friday). Very food value and friendly service. All in all a fine pub.

Came for food last week, we loved it, can't beat home made food. Great place to go especially on a sunny day sitting outside next to the canal. Definitely be back again soon.
