Haven’t been here for about 5 years and what a delight it was going back after so long. Such a wonderful place to go for food and be with family and friends, bonus it is also dog friendly both in and outside. The food was wonderful, served within a good amount of time and came out a nice temperature too. Has a reasonable price and a great selection on the menus. The staff are also wonderful, polite and don’t cause any hassle when items have been ordered. Come over and ask if everything is okay and deal with any complaints. Highly recommend this place!

Beautiful pub at a great location. There’s plenty of seating indoors for a cozy meal and there are many picnic benches near the canal. We chose to sit out to enjoy the scenic views of narrow boats pass by. Their menu is quite extensive with a range of pub classics, vegan and grill options. The mixed grill platter was absolutely delicious. I’ve had grills at many Derby pubs and this one is definitely among the top 3. We also tried the Korean fried BBQ chicken which was a little to sweet but when combined with rice or flatbread it was alright. Overall the food was of extremely good quality and the taste was spot on. The staff here are friendly and welcoming. We had requested for our meal to arrive about 30 minutes after the drinks and they did so promptly. Overall this is a great pub and I definitely recommend dropping by to enjoy your meal with the stunning views.

This is a popular restaurant pub so speaks for itself. Meals are priced modestly above average, but you get what you pay for. Excellent food, friendly approachable service who don't mind a bit of respectful fun. Particularly welcoming to motorhomes and camper vans with a large level side car park. There will definitely be a repeat visit.

Visited here last night for the first time - my friend recommended it as he had been before. It is a huge, lovely building; such a beautiful interior. The staff were friendly, and our food was really good! It was fairly quiet, which seems like such a shame because definitely worthy of more footfall! Would definitely come back, was really pleased 😊

Stopped for a quick drink after a lovely walk at Elvaston Castle. Very busy but served quickly. When I sat outside with Juno, the manager was kind enough to fetch her a water bowl. Atmosphere was lovely, will definitely return to try the food.

Came in for some lunch after walking nearby. Quirky converted building full of character, sat by the trent and mersey canal. We ordered, burger, fish n chips and sausage and mash, needed some dietry changes which our server Chris was most helpfull with. Considering its a Saturday lunchtime, our food came quite quickly, and it was piping hot and delicious.....my burger was by far the best Ive had in a long time with a beautifully charred taste. My companions food was also of the same high standard. Thanks to Chris and the Kitchen Brigade for 3 wonderfull meals.

Stopped overnight in our Campervan, very friendly, welcoming dog friendly pub, food great! Fergus lived the fuss and dog treats! Pub quiz on a Tuesday Evening with Ryan was great fun, Although sadly we only came 3rd - highly recommend and we will definitely stop by when we are passing again!

The food was great, we arrived at the right time just before it got too busy so our food arrived in a reasonable time. Sitting beside the canal had a great atmosphere and had great views. It is a very nice place to come for food, a walk and the views!

We ate on a Sunday at 6pm and were told we'd managed to get the last table when we arrived. It's a beautiful spot and a historic building which is nicely decorated inside. Our server was young and inexperienced, but friendly. The Pedegree was out (pub with no beer), so I got the Sun Beam, which I was told was similar (but really not even close). There are three roasts available on Sunday, I ordered the pork and was told that was also not available, so went with beef. My wife had turkey. It came out quickly, but wasn't great. Not hot and the carrot, green beans and sweet peas were undercooked and hard. The roasted potatoes were very hard on the outside and not fresh on the inside. The meats were of good quality but just not hot. So overall disappointing, given this restaurant aims at a higher price point.

We attended on Thursday 3rd November for my grandad funeral wake .... well what a shambles it was! On arrival the staff didnt seem to be expecting us even after us ringing and confirming the day before. Nothing was set up. We were shoved into a horrible attic room with bare fold down tables. When the food finally arrived it was pathetic and not worth the £240 we had paid for 30 people. After mentioning this to staff they only brought up more stale scotch eggs and crisps. We asked for more hot water for tea and coffee which never arrived. Staff didnt seem to care or have any customer service skills. On payment the lady was very sarcastic with no people skills. This is not what we expect when we have just said goodbye to a grandad, dad and husband. We will not be recommending to anyone for any occasion or meal of any kind. The service is disgusting and what you get for the money is pathetic!!

Some places claim to be dog friendly when they are actually dog tolerant. The owners here clearly love dogs, with blankets and treats provided. The menu is good and the food is well cooked and presented. Those who need gluten-free food are well catered for. We and our Springer will be back!

Recommended to us, and so glad it was. Extremely friendly welcome from Stan, everyone so helpful. Really lovely place to park our camper overnight. A view of the canal. Great food and real ale. Will definitely be going again next time we are in the area.

My friend & I come here quite regularly for a meal as it is in a lovely location & the halfway point from our homes. I have been a customer here for many years, & we love the great food & lovely atmosphere. I’m on your mailing list. Delighted with the service Chris gives us on our visits, he’s a real gent & always makes sure on food quality & five star service. He’s always very pleasant, & service with a smile. Great idea with your £5 voucher discount too.

Love this place been coming for years. Good menu but my pie was like concrete and I should have returned it also carrot was raw. Pricey for what it was. Hubby happy with his mixed grill and seemed value for money. Seemed sadly understaffed and we were told we couldn't use qr code outside but we did and it worked fine. Good idea but is there a way to keep tab open?

We went out with two friends. Warm welcome. Nice atmosphere. Food was really nice and to top it off we played the quiz. Waitresses was very attentive. Ryan who ran the quiz made sure on numerous occasions that all was ok. Very good experience. Will be back Thank you!

We had booked well in advance for a Christmas set meal each for box day, we where well received and seated, drinks order taken and awaited our 1st of the 3 course set menu. While waiting we were watching great big plates of fish and chips /burgers etc going out to people who had just come out for a lunch. Oue 1st course arrived nice but small, second course arrived not as nice because it had no gravy or source of any kind and again small in size as was the desert course. We did men to the manager re size of the set Christmas menu (not cheap) compared to the standard meals. He was very good and applied a good discount for us. Overall 7 out of 10. We will be back but not for the set meals

We liked the venue, attractive building and setting. Service was fine. Food was ordinary at best and some was poor. The sausages were not top quality and the accompanying veg was dull and looked unattractive just peas and beans piled up in a dish. Very little choice for vegetarians. Puddings, apart from the cheesecake, were poor.

Great little find. The signature burgers were to die for. Loved the view and the location. Very nice for an impromptu date for new parents without the kids. The Atmosphere was great. Staff very friendly. There was a mix up with the bill and ours was forgotten about after. As we were sat at the bottom level, we were waiting a while until someone came and we had to flag them down as they ran past.

Large car park with lots of inside space and plenty of canalside seating, makes for a nice place to visit. Decent food (although the burgers aren't anything to shout about) with an acceptable portion size and average pub pricing. You can check the current menu online. One star lost for the failed external lightning making walking up to the front door very hazardous and for the lack of staff, meaning it can take a while to be served. On our recent last visit, it took 15 minutes for our empty plates to be cleared, and as a result, we didn't have time to order dessert. No fault of the staff on duty - couldn't fault them, just that they need another 1 or 2 during busy periods.

The staff are very friendly, the pub is very nicely layered out giving you the options of casual dining or table service as well as eating outdoors. Our food was absolutely delicious & we would definitely recommend it to family & friends. I will order the kebabs again 👌

This place is beautiful and along the waters edge. The food was lovely too. Shame we had to rush off so we will definitely need to revisit

We had booked in advance to celebrate my graduation but couldn't be more disappointed. We arrived far in advance at 6pm so had a round of drinks outside whilst my family and I chose what we would like before going in at 7pm. When going in at our time, the restaurant wasn't overly busy but the table we sat at was quite dirty and unmade even though it hadn't been occupied for the whole time we were outside as it was by the open window. One of the servers came over and made the table for us but we were told they would be back to take our orders shortly - over 30 minutes go by and still nobody had come. After finally putting our order through we were told there would be a wait on food, which was fine, at around another 30 minutes. After one whole hour of waiting there was still no sign of food - when asking as it was getting quite late we would be told 'anytime soon' without being given an actual time and as you can imagine, we were already getting disappointed. By 8.45 we finally had our four meals which all were disappointing - the fish was massively overcooked and the rest of the dish was lukewarm, the chicken and steak cube were lukewarm at best, the mixed grill was lukewarm with a steak that was 80% fat and the steak and ale pie was so cold there was no steam whatsoever. I ended up leaving the chicken in fear that it wasn't cooked to the right temperature and didn't want food poisoning. If the wait could be justified by it being the weekend it could be understandable but it was a Thursday so not that bad... The table opposite us were also annoyed as they had been waiting for food and the bill for a good amount of time too. The staff were lovely and reasonable - none of the food was changed as we just wanted to go home but they did offer to reduce the bill by a good amount since everything was pretty disastrous and even told us to complain online in hopes that management actually put more staff on shift to help as there were only 2 chefs. All in all, wouldn't recommend... Tremendously disappointed especially for the price of food and drink.

Perfect stopover from North to South , 4 mins drive from M1. Very friendly staff in a pub chain pub, right next to canal and river . Plenty of room in car park ,with views across fields.

This place is right by the side of the canal and has a lovely outdoor seating area, the pub itself is spacious and has several different eating areas (including outside)set over two floors. The food is delicious and moderately priced (although I did think the desserts were a bit pricey but still delicious) and the staff are great in the bar and the restaurant and the whole atmosphere of place is lovely. Family friendly and professionally run a great place for a celebration or a quiet meal for two!

Lovely waiters and bar staff in a very busy environment! Roast dinners were lovely, fab portions and variety, pigs in blankets were very dry however. Very accommodating with 4 big dogs and attended to all our needs! We’ll definitely be coming back!!

Very scenic situation next to the canal. Wanted to seat 4 of us at a coffee table in the bar ,we asked to be moved as how can you eat a meal at a coffee table? Then seated at a very small table which we thought was big enough for 2 people as the table next to us had 2 people and just enough room for 2 plates, but we were prepared to sit there when the lady who seemed to be in charge asked us if we wanted to go downstairs as the people it was booked for hadn't arrived and were 20 mins late, better seating as now 2 tables for 4 of us. Main food was ok , small portions though for price , £4.25 for Cauliflower cheese ! Bit expensive if you ask me. Sunday dinner looked ok but Red cabbage was pretty tasteless , 1 massive parsnip and 2 carrots doesn't count as meat with fresh vegetables . Couple of roast taties but no mash? 1 massive Yorkshire. Chicken was a leg with 1 slice of breast. Think need to look at prices as not value for money . Had to ask for more gravy too. Beef and ale pie looked shop bought , mash and 3 carrots and broccoli a bit stingy for nearly £14.! , dessert was supposed to be Chocolate Brownie Sundae, came in a small soup bowl !! One and a half scoops vanilla and one scoop chocolate ice-cream , a dribble of chocolate sauce and a flake, one brownie shared between 3 of us!! When asked waitress, said had run out of sundae dishes!! £6 for a small bowl of ice-cream!! The staff didn't seem to know what they were doing as we had 2 different customers drinks delivered to our table twice and the tray was just left on the table edge . Don't think we will be returning, sorry to say.

Had a lovely walk around shardlow and decided to try something new. We went and sat in the garden with our dog. What a great view relaxing and quite. Went to the bar to order some drinks all really nice. Down side …. Ordered some food off the lunch menu. 2 starters 2 mains. Food is great but we do not like to eat with our hands. No cutlery was brought out to the garden or any condiment’s. After the lady took away our starter plates I asked if we could have a knife and fork and some salt and vinegar which she says yes they are inside. I can’t understand why you would bring out the food with out the cutlery. Such a shame that they can think that they can bring out the food but you have collect your own knife and fork and don't even tell you this when you order. Back to the Dog and duck we go.

We booked a table for 7pm and arrived on time, it wasn't clear where to let someone know we had arrived. Some customers were telling the bar staff, and a short while later a staff member came to a very small area close to the end of the bar where the computer was located which was apparently where you were meant to wait. That really wasn't obvious. We were seated after about 10 minutes and then waited a further 15 before anyone came to take our order for drinks and food - during that 15 minutes, tables around us were cleared by the waiter who ultimately took our order (We felt ignored). 10 minutes or more after placing the order the waiter returned to say that the beer I had ordered had run out and the main my Son in Law had ordered was unavailable. My Son in Laws drink wasn't brought to us and he had to go to the bar where the waiter was preparing other customers drinks and the missing drink was sat on the bar, yet to be taken to us. Other staff were behind the bar chatting. Our food arrived and although my fries were cool and the grilled tomato's on the vine were also tepid, we had been waiting to long to make it worth mentioning. The other 3 meals were fine and my stake was well cooked. The surroundings are very pleasant. There simply didn't appear to be enough staff around to provide an efficient and stress free experience. We have questioned if we would go again as we had a similar experience once before. That's a shame because it could be soooo much better.

We have visited this pub quite a few times. It's set right on the river. Huge car park. A nice little beer garden to sit in and watch the boats go by. Toilets are clean. Dogs allowed in the main bar area. Area to the rear of the pub (Dogs not allowed). Reasonable pub grub at a reasonable price. Cosy atmosphere and friendly bar staff. We will definately return.

First time back in a couple years and wow what a change. The standard of food is the highest, the staff friendly and welcoming. Set next to flowing water will make this venue ideal for a summer night out. Booking is recommended, but saying that we did turn up and did get a table.
