In the outskirts of Trivandrum city. Could be developed into a better tourist destination with more hygiene and maintenance. A temple adjacent to the dam.

Aruvikkara Dam is located in Aruvikkara n Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala. This Gravity and Masonry dam was built across the Karamana River and was completed in 1972 is used for irrigation and supplying drinking water to the city of Thiruvananthapuram. The Aruvikkara dam project came up in the 1930s and has been supported by the Peppara dam built in 1983. The height of the dam is 14.01 meters and the length is 83.21 meters. The Aruvikkara Dam meets the irrigation needs of Thiruvananthapuram. The reservoir is also one of the water tourism sites in Kerala. Aruvikkara dam is a scenic spot on the banks of Karamana River, which is located on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram city. In the area is a beautiful Durga temple which is situated close to a stream where people can be seen feeding fish which pop up close to the shore. Visitors stroll around the pristine picnic spots. Aruvikkara is ideal for a weekend drive from the State capital for one to enjoy its serene surroundings. This is a very small dam and its better to visit it only when water is there otherwise it will be very disappointing. There is a small park next to the dam. The local transport also is not frequently available. This place is not worth for a full day or half day plan. Average time you can spend here is 1 hour.

Aruvikkara dam is situated at aruvikkara at Thiruvananthapuram, and was completed in 1972 .water from here is pumped for irrigation and supplying drinking water to the city of Thiruvananthapuram. The Aruvikkara dam project came up in the 1930s and has been supported by the Peppara dam built in 1983.The height of the dam is 14.01 meters and the length is 83.21 meters.Aruvikkara devi temple is also nearby, fish feeding is one of the main offering of the temple to cure skin diseases. Children's park is also here and had an ample car parking space.

Small dam but well maintained. There is a small kids park too in the sides of dam. Entrance fee 0. There is a tea shop and cool drinks and other local juices available. Parking is good. Don’t miss the view from the bridge where the water flows. There is a good sitting space on opposite side of the dam but unfortunately it is closed and kept for unknown reason.

A nice calm and scenic place to spend the evening. It takes around 30 minutes to reach here from Trivandrum. Here, the Karamana River flows very beautifully. There is a Park near the dam where children can play. The walkway next to the park offers a great view of the dam and the river. The park is kept clean. No fees to enter the place. For refreshments, some stalls are there near the entrance but I felt it's not clean enough. A parking facility is available.

A nice place to have some leisure time. The dam, the rocks around, the cave like place near the temple there and more over the inner part of the reservoir are awesome... The must to travel around is the inner part of the reservoir. It offers some scenic beauties of nature. But the road of the inner side of the reservoir is worse. If Govt. spend some money here, they can rise up this place as one of the beat tourist attraction. The possibility of boating can be brought up here.

A small picnic spot to hang out with friends and family, not a dam as what you are expecting. It's a small dam with a pleasant vibe... Have small shops for tea, snacks,Seperate parking facility is also there..

Vast place to wander around, but can't enter post COVID . Great place for a family visiting . Not the " dam" that I'm positive about, but the corridor. Had to explain to the police why I were there and it's not for immoral stuffs.

A good place for a one day trip Aruvikkara Dam is the main water resourse for whole Trivandrum city. A good picnic spot to be with the family and friends. When I arrived there, the dam shutters opened due to heavy rainfall in the state.

A small and quiet place to spend some time and do some photo shoots. There is a Devi temple which is popular for curing warts! There are so many people who got rid of their warts after the ritual/offering at this temple.

The park near aruvikkara dam is not that good as the park equipments for kids had been damaged and not replaced/repaired by authority. Kids might get infected from the rusted iron equipments and not safe for kids. The park is in a deteriorated state and only allow childrens to play under parent's supervision.

Peaceful place with a small dam. There is a place for kids to play , but it needs serious maintenance. Plan visiting before sunset. Overall you will have a nice time with family.

  • 5/5 Aj G. 1 year ago on Google
The rating is purely from a children's point of view or rather posters with young kids. This is a fabulous free spot to visit if you are coming from Tri andrum.or surrounding areas. The site of the dam during low rain situation is not worth it got the flow of the water through the rocky spots accessible to all is brilliant. You can easily spend an hour here. Just watch out for slippery spots. A park, though not maintained well is just an ok attraction, but young kids will still love it. There is a fish feeding spot which lets you watch fishes up close. The Durga temple is an added bonus which is believed to be the care taker of this area.

A big dam for drinking water scheme for city people. A goddess temple and a children's park on the banks of the river. Here there is a ritual of feeding the fish in the river and it is believed that skin diseases will be cured. On the festival day, the temple has elaborate decorative lighting and artistic performances

Awesome experience being here. This place is plastic free and under Kerala water authority. There us a park called shiva park where people can spend their day with children. Park open from 9 am to 7 pm. There is also a good view of dam from the park and we can also feed fishes in the river.

  • 5/5 Aswathy M. 3 years ago on Google
Nice place , green, clean.. cool, small dam yet fascinating , friendly locals.. be careful of slippery rocks and deep pits between rocks. Dont bath as water on the other side of the dam is used for bathing cattle, washing cloths and cleaning vehicles.
