The biggest park in the city i think! Tons of tourists and great atmosphere. Tons of shopping and food. The park is very safe and the crosswalks always have a helpful police officer.

It has a central location to meet friends. The tourist chairs also known as kissing chairs are a character of the park. Lush and shaded greenery in landscape.

Heart of Mérida! If you’re here in the city, you can find anything from shopping, street tacos, sights and especially experience the rich, Yucatán culture in Mexico. Wanna come back for those hidden street taco gems in the market place. Wish k could give them props, but can’t find their little taco stands in the map! I had a guide who helped find them.

Large town square filled with food vendors, artisans, and pigeons. View of the cathedral. Benches could use an upgrade. A fountain and more greenery would be nice. It was whatever

I love Merida. I hope to come back soon. Getting to the city center is easy from the Merida airport. I would recommend getting a bus ticket at the ADO counter at the airport to the ADO terminal. It cost us 45MX. Merida center has many beautiful sites, restaurants, clothing stores, and souvenirs. Always remember that bargaining is an option. I took a tour at Jarana Tours in the city center, they are located next to the Jarana Restaurant. I recommend the Chichen Itza tour, the big cenote is awesome. I recommend the Uxmal tour, that cenote is not as big but it's good. These tours are less expensive than purchasing online. I would also consider them as first time tours, I really found out what I like and don't like regarding the cenotes, pueblos magicos, and archeological sites. I plan to visit Chichen Itza via the ADO line. You can visit Progreso Port by bus, visit the AutoProgeso bus terminal.

Very relaxing to sit on a bench in the park. Every Monday at 9:00pm there is a traditional dancing! Don’t miss it!

This was a beautiful place in the city to visit. There are ruins that you can explore as well as lots of places for shipping and food in the square. The dressed up horses were a hoot. The park is beautiful. If you are ever in this area check it out!

Point of reference for many interesting Hotels, parks, restaurants and starting point for the Turibus ride! It’s a site where traditional celebration shows and market take place. Also the place to go for the main photo shoot at the color letters. Don’t miss the 8pm when most of the events start on weekends.

Of course you have to visit here while in the city. Relaxing area is busy, but still comfortable. Vendors are not pushy.

It's just a wonderful park to sit and people watch in. Smack dab in the center of the city with a grat outdoor market on Sundays.

Plaza Grande is a buzz of vendors on Sunday morning. The cathedral is open to visitors and you can rent bicycles to bike around the Plaza as all the roads are closed to traffic. Ensure you check with the tourism office on the main square west side and find out about evening entertainment in the Plaza, it changes every night and is free

Lively central plaza with a park in the middle and lots of historic buildings including churches and museums all around it. Popular with locals and tourists alike. Plaza holds all kinds of events from recreations of Mayan ball game to displays of local dancing and the Sunday market that offers local artisans a chance to sell their wares to tourists. There are some restaurants around the square but they are not the best and, frankly, you'll do best to give them a wide berth.

This plaza is absolutely beautiful! The plaza itself is really amazing and definitely worth visiting, but do be aware that it is not the most comfortable place to go to relax, as YOU WILL be approached by so many people trying to sell you everything from tours to Mayan clothing! They also do have the famous Merida letters to take a nice photo in front of and the Merida cathedral is absolutely beautiful! This place should definitely be avoided during mid day though I must say because the sun here is brutal! Other than that a place that everyone should visit for a bit! If you'd like to see more, check out my YouTube channel Travelwithchris to see the plaza first hand!

Great plaza, alot of seats with shade. Not too busy, fantastic markets on Sunday. Drink and snack stands located around. A very nice place to unwind and relax.

Cultural activities, Merida en Domingo and just strolling or seating on the ‘You and Me’ seats make this square such a wonderful place to visit in Merida. Just be aware that the Merida heat will make it an unbearable task to do it during the day time. Wait ‘till the evening or get up early in the morning to visit this place.

Lovely park. Be sure to visit on a Sunday when there are extra seating areas and food stalls, music and entertainment. It’s a well maintained and beautiful park in front of the old cathedral. Got your Instagram letters to get you photo fix, lots of seating, a flag. It’s worth a wander. Also check out the covered walkway beside the catheter as they often display art to the public in there. The square is missing some nice cafes around the edge, unfortunately the best spots are occupied by a 7eleven, subway and a couple of dodgy diner looking places

Main square of Merida - or at least where lots of interesting things happen. Nearby is an artisan's market worth seeing. The square itself is lined with restaurants and other places to eat. It's nice and quiet during the day but livens up at night.

Merida is such a lovely city and this is one of the spots that makes it such. It's in a central location, right around all of the action. There is a lot of history to be learned in this area. I visited during both the day and night and safety was of no concern. As you can see, there are many magical pictures to be taken. Check it out!!

A typical Spanish colonial plaza at the heart of the city with tons of restaurants, food stands, Yucatan state building, municipal building and other points of interests. We spent a good two hours there walking around, visiting public buildings, enjoying refreshments at Dulcería and sorbetería Colón, and checking out the bookstore at the corner.

  • 5/5 Henric C. 2 years ago on Google
Plaza grande Is a great place to hangout in the evenings, watching people and the commerce. The historic buildings around the plaza are all worth your time for exploration. Don't miss the free museum in the oldest building in Merida, today also a bank. There is usually a nice art exhibition in the covered alley next to the (necessary to visit) old cathedral. After visiting the sites, have a sorbet at sorbeteria colon!

This is a great place to come daytime or evening. The Plaza is big enough that a breeze blows through it so it's cooler than many other parts of the city. There's always a bench to be had. You can eat, get a drink or shop here. Many come to feed the pigeons. Monday night there are the wonderful Mayan dancers (free).

(Translated by Google) Just as in the photo; clean, all its polite people. The vendors do not harass you, nor do they chase you, quite a few squirrels live there and climb trees and walk in the gardens in their habitat, they are not afraid because nobody is chasing or hurting them. Lots of greenery, very nice clothes. Sooo clean, you can't find trash or looking for it, its people take care of all its pre-Hispanic monuments, like their own homes. Me encantó visitar Yucatan

If you're in Mérida, there's no way around the Central Park. Although it's not really anything special, there's always something going on - vendors, exhibitions, tourists... Let's say it doesn't get boring ;)

  • 5/5 Dejan B. 2 years ago on Google
Plaza Grande is the main square in central Merida. It's similar to many such squares throughout Mexico - rectangular in shape with many tourist attractions and important edifices around it. It's best to arrive at dusk when locals come out after the heat and the square gets lively. The central part occupies a park with greenery and many benches around - pay attention to double rounded ones for lovers, Merida is famous for. On 4 sides of the plaza are 4 Merida's biggest attractions - the imposing Cathedral, Casa Montejo (the oldest house, now a museum), red facade City Hall and the green Governor's palace

A must see while in Merida. Plenty of park benches scattered around the park perfect for people watching and relaxing under the trees. Food vendors and many of the walking tours start from here. The park is surrounded by historic buildings and plenty of shops. Usually there are night-time activities most nights.

One of the places to visit when you are in Campeche. A classic Mexican Plaza with the usual activities: shoe shiners, hawkers, of local crafts, families enjoying time together, public art. Also don't miss the two museums close by of Mayan Architecture and Maritime History. Our favorite part of traveling is the art, crafts, architecture, culture and of course food. We work with Mayan artists and artisans from Guatemala. GuateMaya Art and Culture Connection

The city should ban horse-drawn carriages. Just like many other cities have done it. This is unnecessary and inhumane. Would you like to run through the streets dragging two heavy suitcases in temperatures over 30 degrees? No? Why asking animals to do it then? Some horses were not running clearly. Listen carefully. Horses can not shout out their pain. They show pain by limping, being wide-eyed, and having curled nostrils. If you're honest with yourself, it breaks your heart to see these poor animals standing in the middle of city traffic, gasping for air. We actually like Merida, but this leaves a very bitter aftertaste.

Awesome place to take in the sights of Merida and the mix of Aztec and Mayan history that built this city. Montejo’s house, the Cathedral and some amazing shops and restaurants lune the Center. Stop for lunch at Casa Maya (filtered ice and water and they take US currency) and there is a currency exchange station here for exchanging US to Pesos. 711 has awesome Mexican candies and Mexican versions of US snacks but do not take pesos FYI

As far as public plazas go, this one is great! Lots going on! Hat maker, musicians, pigeons, where you can find the double decker tour bus or perhaps you would rather have a carriage ride! Lots of trees for shade. Enjoy!

We visited the Plaza Grande as a part of a Carnival cruise excursion group. Although we didn't have long to spend there, we enjoyed seeing the beautiful views of the buildings, unique park benches, statues, nativity scene, and other Christmas decorations. The pigeons flew around the place in droves and local children tried to sell us colorful jewelry and purses. We also enjoyed the excellent, free citywide wifi, and there were several Pokestops to spin in the plaza. A quick but wonderful visit to a lovely place!

(Translated by Google) Its square was very beautiful, we went in times of a pandemic and the Yucatecans were very friendly. They all take care of each other with mouth covers. I would have liked that the square was open. Be careful if you travel in a pandemic time to Merida, taxis hardly ever transport a passenger by car. Llo traveled with three minors and they did not want us to send the minors alone in the taxi. I know it is on the orders of the state but it was illogical to send minors alone.
