Based on press, reviews and photos, I was very excited to dine at Merkavá. I didn’t expect my taste buds to sing like they have in Israel and New York, but I did want to walk away gleaming about the growing availability of Middle Eastern, Israeli and Jewish food in Mexico City. Unfortunately, every dish was a miss. First up: the matzo ball soup, which is not really Israeli nor Middle Eastern, but as an Ashkenazi Jewish tradition it’s still culturally relevant. While the ball was pretty good, the broth tasted of salty bouillon cube. I detected not even a hint of celery, carrot or herb, all non-negotiable for a well-rounded bowl. On the other hand, I did detect some floppy egg noodles. Nevermind that they defy tradition — the larger issue is that they are unnecessary as long as a softball-sized dumpling sits in the middle. It felt amateur. The salatim were a flop. I sized down the order to lentils, falafel, baba ghanoush and beets. The mortar-like baba ghanoush (one of my favorites) was so bitter and texturally offensive that I sent it back — and I rarely do that. (“¡Pruebalo!” I wanted to say) The falafel were hard, dry and relatively mute. The lentils were mixed with garbanzo beans and some herbs that had turned brown from, I presume, sitting in a container for a few days. And finally, the beets. They sounded heavenly: tamarind, lemon, cumin, mustard seed and kaffir lime. What actually arrived — sad, bitter chunks with the glaze of overnight refrigeration — might as well have come from a can. Had I been smarter, I would have ordered the hummus and the lamb shank. Hoping to reduce waste, I ordered the grape leaves stuffed with lamb and rice. They were faintly rancid and excessively oily. I left one behind. Service was satisfactory. They were patient with my poor Spanish and somewhat understanding about the baba ghanoush. I’d have loved if they had an English menu for easier scannability, but such is a luxury rather than an expectation. Was it an off night or the norm? Not sure I’ll ever find out.

First off, I love where this restaurant is located. So many beautiful trees and the walking path in the street, it's just so peaceful and quaint. People are just strolling by, just such a nice atmosphere. The service was on point and the food...still craving it. We ordered some hummus with spice and meat (can't remember exactly the name) and the lamb shank with rice. The lamb just melted off the bone. We both had mojitos which were on par in quality as the food. One of the best meals we had. We'll definitely return when we visit again. (Dogs were definitely welcome outside for sure, not sure about the indoor dining area).

Very delighted to find such a nice restaurant. The appetizers were all very tasty and healthy. Do try the lamb if you like lamb. My favorite was the Turkish coffee. It's served table side and was just the right amount of sweet and savory.

Delicious, traditional food from Israel. Nice ingredients and good value for money. Recommend better to sit inside, and desserts are creative but a bit too sweet for my taste. Must visit.

(Translated by Google) The avocado hummus is spectacular, the combination of these ingredients and the chicken crackling make magic in the mouth, they finish it with olive oil, it was my favorite dish. We also loved the kachapuri, the wood-fired bread is delicious. Another thing you have to try here is dessert, we ordered a chocolate and hazelnut babka served with halva ice cream, date honey and pine nuts. Fantastic, closed the dinner with a flourish.

PLEASE go here and order the “servicio de pan”. The literal BEST bread I have ever tasted in my life. I still dream about it. Other food was good too but the bread was the big winner of the eve. IG @ericaisevolving for more travel tips and pics :)

It’s good enough but not worth the price. The best dishes were the hummus and the Salatim, everything else missed the mark. Also, the service was not great, the waited that was serving us was very inpatient and not willing to answer some of our questions, he would come over and if we weren’t ready to order he’d leave the table, even when we were asking him questions or in the middle of ordering. I wasn’t a bad meal, but it is not worth the price or the hype.

Small and cozy with BIG tasty options. I have been several times to Merkavá, some times with my wife on date night. Every single time we live this place we comment that we need to visit more often. It's one of those places that surprises you on every meal. From a simple hummus to the lamb shank absolutely every dish is delicious.

Went for dinner and sat outside. The food was nice, as was the service. Since I sat outside there wasn’t much of a vibe necessarily. I’d come back to at least try some different menu items.

Came to Merkava to have some dinner with friends. We ordered everything to share and had a few drinks. We had a (just ok) hummus —perhaps those with additional seasoning are more surprising. The tzatziki and eggplant chips were wonderful and my favorite dish of the night. Spinach and feta bourakas were a decent contender for the first place, along with the roasted cauliflower. We also had a turkey shawarma, which was a bit complicated to share, but still had a good flavor. Drinks were ok, including the Turkish coffee and tea, which are prepared directly in the table.

Amazing food for vegetarians ( especially hummus with garlic ). Great service and atmosphere. However if you sit outside, get ready to be interrupted by street sellers.

A delightful Israeli food surprise in CDMX. Salatim were small but tasty, especially the Matbucha. The pitas are freshly baked at the restaurant. The Kubana was a little under baked for my Yemenite taste and the schug and tomato salsa could have used more oomph. The hummus is the star with the Yemenite beef seasoning spot on! Brought me back to Hatikva.

Grab a seat outside to get some great urban and greenery views. Great spot for Mediterranean food. Staff were helpful, and spoke great English. The Turkish style coffee was a nice start, they prepare it at your table. I loved the food, and will come back the next time I'm in the city.

(Translated by Google) The site tries to replicate the food of the 4 neighborhoods of Jerusalem. Second time we visit the place, Saturday afternoon, it is a small, comfortable place to talk and eat. We ordered the sample of 7 dishes, and the hummus with lamb, all very tasty, the lemon drink with very small mint, glasses of about 300 ml, why is the water always so small and without refill in these places? Our dessert was the date cake and a mug of Turkish coffee, very tasty too. The place has a good atmosphere and beautiful decoration. I will return I liked it a lot.

We had a lovely evening here! We shared the garlic hummus, which was delicious. I had the lamb, which was fantastic and my husband, who is vegetarian, had the eggplant, which was served with two sauces and some chickpeas. It an elegant subtly flavored dish and was different than anything we've tried before. I tasted it and preferred my lamb!! I had a Morrocon tea, which was so pretty. Everything at this restaurant is so beautifully presented. Eating here is like a ceremony. A lot of thought goes into the meal. Our server. was outstanding and attentive.

Outstanding food and chill atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and extremely attentive. The flavor was excellent, everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The cauliflower was delicious and I loved the ‘corta-coliflor’ how I named the knife. Definitely will go back again.

Expensive dishes! when they opened a few years ago everything was a hit, now most items on the menu are mediocre at best. I got served some rancid grape leaves. I’m talking old! Not only that but the restaurant has gone up in price point yet somehow the portions have gotten smaller, less hummus, less dipping sauces, the wine pour is ridiculously cheap, they serve you half a glass ! Barely! This restaurant does well, no reason for them to be this cheap! Serve the portions well, come on. Not sure if I’ll be back. Another sad story for condesa. Bai.

Each of the salatim had such depth and concentration of flavor. The Matza ball soup was fortifying on a cool rainy night. Excellent service by all staff. Nice little sweet to end the meal. Would love to try entrees and dessert on my next visit. Highly recommended.

Great place for breakfast. Was the only customer at 9 am. The Turkish coffee was made by table side. I ordered the Manakish and Shashuka. The photos show how great the food looks/taste. Staff was very accommodating with my limited Spanish. Great outdoor seating.

The food is ok but overpriced, but the vibe really is horrible. They act like they are doing you a favor by taking your reservation, service is not nice or helpful. If you are not a pretentious rich Mexican who talks loudly about baseball all night this may not be the place for you.

I really like the concept of the restaurant, it has an amazing feeling decoration is gorgeous and service is outstanding. The hummus, pan pita, side dish are rather good; nevertheless the main dish that I order felt more on the plain and not amazing flavors still a nice experience. I would definitely come back to try other dishes.

Just WOW! This is hands down one of the best restaurants that we’ve not only been to in CDMX but one of the best I’ve ever been to in my LIFE! Every bite was perfection. We ordered the matzoh ball soup (seriously some of the best noodles I’ve ever had), the duck hummus (omg!! We devoured this along with the delicious fresh pita), an incredible & massive head of roasted cauliflower with a beautiful blend of seasoning on it, and the Pavo shwarma. The service was really wonderful as was the ambiance. I highly highly recommend adding this to your list of must dine restaurants in CDMX! The matzoh ball noodles will haunt my dreams. Very good Israeli food and very good service. I used to go there sometimes a few times a week to eat Humus for lunch, but they also have a great evening menu of you're looking to go with some friends. Sadly they only open st 1pm so you will not find Israeli breakfast here.
