I just discovered Mill No. 5 a couple of weeks ago and have a new love in my life! Once I realized I shouldn't be put off by the uninviting elevator I discovered a magical wonderland of one-of-a-kind shops and experiences, including an old-timey apothecary decorated with drying herbs beneath the ceiling, a soda fountain plucked out of the pages of yesteryear, and a spacious reading room - a very public space - maintained by a café. All in a converted mill building... high ceilings, old brick everywhere, and a spiral staircase laid out in a giant oval helix. Oh, snap, I've just talked myself into heading over there tonight! (You should go there too!)

Best to visit during the vendor weekends, otherwise they lock the bathrooms oddly enough. No one takes a elevator up four flights to pee... Surprising attitude from the cheese monger and the Luna theater staff, but overall it's a great place. The coffee shop has tasty food that's worth the trip alone. Luna theater is beautiful and has live music!

Mill No. 5 is one of the success stories of a reborn Lowell. My wife and I often take visiting family and friends here on weekends because the ambience, variety and surprises are always a hit (and our guests like to return - it grows on them). On weekdays, when many of the Mill No. 5 shops do not open, I walk over anyway for the Coffee & Cotton or the Mill City Cheesemongers. This indoor village is more about nurturing and conserving things of human value than it is about being hip. In some ways it is quite conservative, reusing from the past what still has vitality. Shopkeepers and venture owners get a chance to take a leap of faith to share with others what products and creations give them joy, hoping to do honest business and thrive. Not everyone succeeds, but many do, and new ideas come along to fill any empty spaces. I am lucky to live within walking distance and to observe the courage, persistence, imagination and success of Mill No. 5. Yes it does have stairway entrances/exits in addition to the single elevator, and signs are mounted.

Mill no. 5 is an experience, not just a shopping mall! With a unique antique decor, this place hosts cute little shops and supports small businesses, including a cute little movie theater that runs only classic films. This is a paradise for folks into pop culture! Would def visit again for the cafes and other shops!

Enter where you see the sign (pictured) and take the elevator that the arrow (pictured) is pointing toward. Mill No. 5 is a collection of really neat small businesses. The term "streetscape" is used to describe its appearance. You could easily spend a few hours here, more if you catch a movie at the end of the stretch. It's visually captivating. If not for the content, go for the atmosphere and walk a bit.

If the hours went so weird, it would deserve 4 ⭐. If the 'second' floor were populated, might deserve 5 ⭐

I always love coming here, it feels like Diagon alley when you step off the elevator. Awesome shops and amazing events including music and craft fairs. Never a dull time.

It is a very nice place! It has little coffee shops, book shops and other interesting stores and the movie theater La Luna that is small, beautiful and very cozy. The movies shown in the theater are very well chosen, they display just one movie at the time and they have days and times during the week that present family movies at no charge. The food stand is much cheaper than in any other theaters. I highly recommend the movie "Be Natural" The story of the great pioneer of movies an extraordinary woman Alice Guy Blanche, whose marvelous work has never been recognized, a woman ahead of her time.

This place is really cool! Some interesting shops to explore and a great place to get milkshakes and catch a movie. Definitely check it out if you are in the area.

This place is so charming and has small businesses that all Lowellians should show love to. There's the Coffee and Cotton which has great coffee and baked goods with a lot of open seating and events, the Lowell Book Company, Vinyl Destination which is where I get all my records, the Red Antler Apothecary and many more than I can't fit all. There's the Luna Theater where you can see a movie with vintage atmosphere. It's worth making a small evening trip to, and you'll love the old squeaking of the wood as you walk through the hall of shops.

Great place to check out on a rainy day the record store was great the other shops seemed ridiculously overpriced $12 for a 1" pin $50 for a gremlins postcard kinda insane

Such a cool shopping area! Lots of local makers and artists represented here and all the shop owners were genuinely friendly and made visiting their store fun. Except the art gallery lady, I don't remember spitting in her cereal, but apparently I did. That was the only bad experiance though, everything else was super cool! Definitely worth checking out if your near the area! Oh, and use the stairs, the elevator is nightmare fuel. Lol!

Great indoor shopping with all independant stores. There is an old time vibe with a record store, movie theater, and coffee shop. Locatesd on the 4th and 5th floor of this former mill building. Parking is tough during the week. The indoor farmers market on Sunday is great and parking is better.

Unique indoor shopping place with a coffee shop and movie theater. It’s undergone a lot of improvements and changes over the last several years. It is truly a highlight of Lowell. They now have pizza, sandwiches, weekend markets… if you’re in the area, don’t miss it! The hours are a bit odd so definitely check to confirm before you go.
