👍👍 Couldn't ask for better accomodation for our school trip to the Western Front. Comfy, clean, practical rooms that the girls loved. Excellent packed lunches. Easy self check in/key code procedure. Ping pong, chess and games available for the evenings. Best of all you are right in the centre of beauti... While I'm not going to argue this was the best place and this place does say they offer acceptable accommodation (4 stars), I found the experience rather pleasant. Hear me out. It is located right in front of the monument, it is right next to the main road but it isn't too close so this means it is rather quiet; you can easily access all the services in this area with this location. You have people having fun by the pool table (they have one), you have people chilling in the dining room, you have people using the computers (though the computers were the only let down as we wanted to stream football on the computer but the Internet was slow, that is to be expected when 60 people are connected to it at the same time so no argument here). The breakfasts are decent but you aren't here to have some lavish dish or something, you are there to simply stay there for your trip and for that this place does a good job. I've read the 1 star reviews here and I've been disappointed by how annoying they make this place seem like, that is not true. The mattresses I used had no problems whatsoever and the blankets if I do remember were a bit smaller than the cover but it wasn't a problem for me to sleep with, it'll only be a problem for those sulky people who have a big attitude who need to be spoon feed. Seriously it is disappointing to see people give 1 star reviews for this place that I had so many fun memories in. If this doesn't convince you how great this place was, listen to this from my perspective. I went there 5 years ago, and i still have fond memories of this random place. I had forgotten where this was located, but all I had to do was search for Ypres, and find the monument in the centre of the town, and right there i found this place it was so easy. I would have given this place a 4 star but to counter the negative reviews I'm going to give this a 5 star, hope this review changed your mind after reading the 1 star reviews.

Stayed here on a school trip at the beginning of December. First time staying. Great facility with super rooms. Everything was clean and tidy. Bed linen was all freshly laundered. The dining area was super and a great place. Location was great right by the Menin Gate and walking distance to everything in town. Stefan who hosted us was super helpful. Will definitely be booking here again.

Excellent location, clean and modern interior, really helpful host who spoke perfect English. Rooms are fairly basic, but clean and exactly what we needed. Breakfast was good value and the packed lunch was great. No complaints at all - really well set up for school groups with use of a communal room and games area as well as handy features such as the microphone to speak to students in their rooms!

I stayed here recently with a small group of teenagers, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Excellent location, very close to the Menin Gate. The owner and staff are lovely, very helpful. Breakfast was great. Would definitely recommend staying here.

This was a perfect facility for our large group of youth travellers. Central location with lots of shops and sites close by. A short walk to the train, In Flanders Fields Museum and Menin Gate. Ample and delicious breakfast. Kind and helpful staff. Clean rooms with a toilet/sink/shower in each room.

Superb site for school groups. We have 43 staying and had the building to ourselves. Excellent spread for breakfast and make your own lunches. Staff were helpful. School staff room with minibar and good selection of rooms with en-suites. Location doesn't get much better for a battlefield tour!

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at The Menin Gate hostel. This was so suitable for a school group. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The central area was great for breakfast and evening socialising with table tennis available and a large chess set. Will definitely return. Over a certain number you can have sole occupancy. Thank you Steffan.

I stayed in the Menin Gate hostel in the shadow of the Menin Gate with a group on a Battlefield Tour. Accommodation has been refurbished during COVID. Staff are wonderful and really helpful and I cannot recommend staying here more strongly. I will certainly stay again.

I have been using the Menin Gate school hostel for 13 years, as a Scottish school we require a home away from home for our students as we are away for a full week. The Menin Gate provides comfort and security in a fantastic location within a budget that allows us to offer an extended visit to Flanders. The space is well considered with excellent communal space in the ground floor to accomodate all staff and students for breakfast, as well briefing sessions for the coming days activities.Located in the heart of Ieper (Ypres), it gives us confidence for our young people to have independent free time, with all services and amenities an easy stroll from the premises. The bedrooms are well designed, with a view to accomodate a full coach load. This does mean some room have triple bunks, but we’ve always found our students enjoy the experience, more so now that since Covid many haven’t had sleepovers. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, all recently modernised and very functional. We choose the Continental buffet breakfast each day, which the staff are happy to accomodate our sometimes rather early starts (6:30am on one day). Evening meals are offered at local restaurants, which our students enjoy having variety. The planning and preparation is easy with the pre arrival paperwork clear and concise. The Menin Gate is the ideal school trip accommodation.

An absolutely incredible stay. Stefan and his team are so helpful. If you are looking to take a group to Ypres, don’t look anywhere else

A great stay for student and pupil tour groups. The welcome is warm and the staff cannot do enough to help. A lot of renovation has been completed and the rooms are clean, comfortable and ideal for pupils and staff. The location is fantastic especially if you’re here to attend the last post ceremony. With the iconic MeninGate quite literally on the doorstep. If you are arranging a school group I cannot recommend highly enough this hotel. Everything is stress and hassle free. Thank you to Stefaan and the Poppies/ Meningate team.

We had yet another amazing stay! We will be returning again next year. Always a very friendly and helpful service. The hostel is very clean and well organised. There are lots of convenient facilities, such as UK plug sockets in the rooms and a very handy water fountain. The ping pong table and social area are perfect for school groups. The location is so handy, especially with the bus drop off point outside the door. Staff are always great and helpful.

Stayed here on a good few occasions over the past few years with my work. I have bee Here with both School and Military groups and the level of care and service has always been exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble for Stefaan and his staff. The rooms are clean and practical so are all the facilities. I can thoroughly recommend this Accommodation most highly for group tours of the Ypres Salient.

Dreadful place, rooms with nails sticking out of the floor and moldy bed sheets

My daughter went on a school trip and stayed at menim gates. She came back covered in insect bites as did the other girls staying in her dorm. From the bite pattern It looks like the mattresses were (are!) infested. I suspect fleas or bed bugs. The poor hygiene and outdated accommodation spoilt what should have been an enjoyable and informative school trip.

The hostel itself was actually not that bad. The staff was very friendly and breakfast was really nice. Really good place for school trip. :)

There are speakers in the rooms that people can talk into. We don't even have proper pillows, just small ones that resemble cushions. The duvets are too small and very thin and lumpy. The sheets provided are to big for the duvet and cushion. However the bathroom is reasonably nice compared to the rest and the woman who runs it is very nice and friendly
