This building is a five. The art collection, except for the famous murals, are a three, so let’s settle on a four. The building is absolutely sumptuous with its rich use of marble, onyx and travertine. The lobby with its beautiful Mexican art deco style is also stunning. On each level are enormous murals, the most famous of which finds Diego Rivera celebrating Stalin’s Red Army triumphing over capitalism. It’s an interesting work even if the politics haven’t exactly dated well. Entrance costs $95 but you don’t get to see the theatre.

We went to go watch the Folklore Ballet & had an amazing time. The costumes and music are fantastic. Definitely buy tickets in advance (can be done on Ticketmaster). People dressed in fairly casual clothes, so no need to wear a suit or dress. The show is long! We left after an hour and a half. This would have been a five star show but there was a shocking and racist depiction of an Arabic man and blackface. They should remove this from the show moving forward.

What an interesting building. People over 60 can get in free to the art gallery/ museum on the upper floors. There is a separate line for seniors. Currently there is an impressionist exhibit with Monet, Pissaro, and other artists. Events are also held in the auditorium.

I went to the folk dancing of Mexico performance, and it was one of the highlights of my trip to Mexico City. it was so well done and the costumes were beautiful. The musicians were incredibly talented tickets on the top section. We’re only the equivalent of US$13 and you could still see everything perfectly. They even have a 9:30 AM show and I wasn’t able to buy tickets online so I went to the box office before hand and it was incredibly straightforward. They only take cash FYI.

The architecture of this gorgeous palace is one of a kind in the world!! The history of the most talented people preforming there is exceptional. The marble inside… the glass curtain… I already said to much. You will not be disappointed.

This place is so eye catching that it can’t be missed while walking around the downtown of Mexico. It holds many cultural events like folk ballets and other performances that need to be booked in advance. At night it looks even prettier due to light effect. It has a nice beautiful park on the right side along with adjoining interesting shops.

What an incredible building. The Tiffany’s glass in the theatre is stunning. Went to see the Folkloric Ballet of Mexico there and loved it. Some parts were a bit repetitive but it’s definitely worth to do when visiting CDMX. The top balcony seats were very cheap with some obstructed view. Make sure to get seats more in the centre.

In early February 2025, my wife and I enjoyed an immersion into the beauty of Mexico City or Ciudad de Mexico (CDMX), formerly known as Distrito Federal (DF), it is the capital of Mexico – the nation of United Mexican States. It is located in the center of the country, in an area known as the Valley of Mexico. Greater Mexico City, or the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico, is a region with a population nearly 22 million residents. It is the second most populated metropolitan area in Latin America and one of the top six most populous cities in the world. The city is located at an elevation of 2,240 meters or 7,350 feet above sea level. (Hydrate for three days before you go!). We reside in Queretaro, Mexico – the third most populous city in the country (Guadalajara is second) about a three hour drive north of Mexico City. This trip was our third to explore this seemingly endless mass of mesmerizing culture. We toured the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) for several hours one day. Honestly, the magnificent displays of mesmerizing beauty leave you unable to speak. It makes you motionless – unable to move. It is an absolute MUST VISIT destination. Make certain that you tour the interior of the adjoining auditorium.

Beautiful architecture on the outside. It’s gorgeous. However I was underwhelmed with the amount of murals one could see inside. I went on a weekday. I didn’t watch any shows in the theatre.

If you’re in Mexico City, Palacio de Bellas Artes is a must. It has beautiful art murals and the architecture of the building is just breathtaking dating back to early 1900’s. It is located in the heart of the city’s historic center. One of the most visited neighborhood in the City. There is a small fee to get in less than 5 American dollars. Pro tip No need to spend money on a tour guide, very easy to get to, they have QR codes with information as well, and you can probably walk around and listen to tour guides near by. When you’re done visiting the historic building, make sure to walk around the neighborhood, very lovely, restaurants, beautiful sites and more. There is a nice Cafe inside the Sear’s right in front of the building, walk in take elevator to the 8th floor and enjoy a beautiful view to take some selfies. Have fun!

This building is an architectural gem! The art deco interior is rich in uniquely Mexican details. In addition to the murals, there is currently (March 2025) a very good exhibit on the top level celebrating 90 years.

Visited on a Sunday, when there is free admission, and there was no wait but there are a fair amount of people -- you were able to walk right in and an attendee was counting those entering and enforcing rules (such as bags to be checked or worn on front of body, no food/drink). The building is beautiful to visit just for seeing itself, but the murals and art were also great. You could spend much time reading details and visiting with each piece, or if you wanted to do a quick walk through to see all open areas could be less than 30min. There are plenty of free bathrooms inside museum area, and there is some cafe near the gift shop area as well. There were signs promoting evening concerts in the theatre which we were unable to enter as part of the museum, so attending a concert would be a great way to visit more of the building.
