For a seventh most visited country in the world, Terminal 1 Benito Juarez International Airport is below mediocre. They don’t stamp your passport when you come in, but give you a paper slip that you are supposed to keep when leaving the country! No one informs you. The number of seats for waiting customers at Gate 30-35 are minimal. Lots of standing grumpy customers who paid airport tax/charges. It is old, dirty and smelly. Think if this as the last thing you experience at the end of your trip. Can do better to be in the top.
On arrival at T2, take MB4 outside the exit by the restaurant "WINGS". You must have a Metrocard which can be purchased from the Metrocard machine right across from the restaurant called WINGS. The minimum cost is 60 pesos with cash or credit card. 15 pesos of which is for the price of the card so that leaves you 45 pesos to spend on public transit. The ride on MB4 to the city center is 30 pesos. The first MB4 from T2 will bring you to San Lazaro stop. From there you transfer to another MB4 bus. If your going to north of centro, then "norte". if going south of centro, then "sur". You tap your metrocard on the first MB4 at T2. When you transfer to the 2nd MB4 at San Lazaro, do not tap your metrocard again. The 30 pesos is for bringing you from T2 to the city center on the MB4 line. From the city center to T1 or T2, it's similar. You tap on your first MB4 bus telling the driver a aeropuerto. You will see that your card has been charged 30 pesos. You transfer to the 2nd MB4 bus at San Lazaro. Don't tap your metrocard again.
Had a great experience both coming in and departing from the airport. Arrival was easy and customs was efficient; they put you through an individual scanner (US passport holders), so no stamps coming in. It is fast and you get a QR code for your time in the country. Getting an Uber is super easy outside (but set it up ahead of time). Return trip was great. They recommend 2-3 hours arrival ahead of flight time due to traffic and security but we had time to spare due to lower traffic. We were flying on Delta and went to check our luggage for the return flight; the staff are super friendly and we had a great experience. The check in process was quick and the line went fast- even for non priority people. Security was not very efficient and we got through but the lines were unequal. You will need to put your things in a tray, but our line was out so we had to wait. Meanwhile other lines went faster. No stamp out; no customs to check you out. I was hopeful for the lounge here, but it was under construction so no option. The lounge areas are difficult to find so signage could be improved. Currency exchange personnel aren’t great but we did get a good rate for our exchange. There aren’t many places to sit so seating could be improved, especially since there were a great deal of people who needed to be accommodated (elderly, disabled, limited mobility). We did grab a bite to eat and prices were fair for the airport. Bathrooms were good and kept clean, even with so many people coming in. Our flight departed on time and didn’t delay. Overall a good experience and compared to other airports, this place was efficient, felt safe and overall pleasant.
Such a dated airport for an international city. Nothing is organized, air quality indoors is bad and the need for non stop shuffling between shuttles is tiresome. I hope Mexico understands that the airport is the first and last experience of most visitors leaving an impression of this great city.
Had an underwhelming experience. Terminal 1 is outdated and doesn’t live up to today’s standards. Also Terminal 1 is unfortunately the one where United, Lufthansa etc flies from. It is dirty and there aren’t any nice shops. Also the international arrival area in T1 is just outdated. But the views on arrival and departure are fire.
While there were a few very nice shops I found this airport to be one of the most unwelcome ones to be in. It was hard to navigate because the signs were not clear and sometimes not even present. Even though it was under construction in places, they did not do much to mitigate sound and dust. The bathrooms were never very clean and smelled bad. I didn't really have a choice for an airport and was kind of stuck here. If I had another choice I would go with a different one.
Beautiful, clean, extremely well organized airport, makes flying in and out of CDMX a breeze. Power outlets and tables to relax. Food, coffee everything you need for relaxed travel day.
T2 is a well organized airport. Light and spacious. They had a lot if really nice and interesting decoration when we were there. No long waiting - it took us only 15 minutes to enter, drop of luggage, go through the xray and reach the gates.. Nice views for plane spotters through the big glass fronts. Not a lot of food choice and high prices in the waiting areas as a small minus
Mexico City International Airport offers a mixed experience. Terminal 2 is much more acceptable, with a more modern and functional design, while Terminal 1 feels outdated and no longer meets the standards of a world-class airport. One of the most frustrating aspects is the transfer between the two terminals. There are no free shuttles available for passengers, which is surprising for an airport of this size. Instead, travelers have to pay for an outdated bus, making the process inconvenient and disappointing. Another major drawback is the lack of lounges that reflect the great culinary art Mexico is known for. For a country with such a rich gastronomic heritage, it’s disappointing not to find lounges that live up to this reputation. For a vibrant and important city like Mexico City, this airport has significant room for improvement to provide a service worthy of a global capital.
Nice airport, about 30 min from downtown with no traffic. Before security there is not much in terms os shopping or food but after security there are a lot of options for eating and shopping for gifts. On the second level after security there are the VIP lounges.
I'm giving it 3 stars because they lack organization. We even missed a flight because they change the departure gates frequently. Some restaurants are worth eating at, and the NH Collection hotel is an excellent place to spend the night. On the other hand, we received poor service from the staff at some stores, like 7-Eleven.
So we arrived super early since we were flying international however we had a connecting flight in Guadalajara. Should have tried to get a connecting flight in the states. Oh well. The gate kept switching back and forth so we walked back and forth, lol. Should have just stopped in one area and waited till we got the gate number. So confusing. One bathroom had no water but was open. Should have noticed the sign before going 🤷♀️ other bathrooms were okay. Not super clean but I carry clorox wipes so no big deal. A few food stalls we stopped at Carl's. Not the greatest. I think it gave me an upset stomach. Thankfully there is a pharmacy. Also, I was frisked, what? I think because they heard us talking in English. They also checked our bags. This was a first for me 😅 but the speed of the line was as expected. Should have used the restroom b4hand.
I find it to be a very confusing airport to leave from. Coming in is very straightforward. No problem. Everything flows right to the exits with good signs to all forms of transportation. Very easy to meet people of you're being picked up. Very clean airport. Everything is constantly being cleaned. Going out can be very confusing without a lot of good signage. The maps are only marginally helpful. You go through a lot of ups and downs. There are information booths though, so make use of those. There are plenty of shops for souvenirs, food, and drink throughout though. Lots of money changing stations and ATMs. Security is thorough, but efficient.
I had a good experience at this airport 🦋loved the art gallery/ museum - ah, don't miss it, such beauty 🦋many stores and places to eat! 🦋there's a few lounges here.... but the signs and how to get there need to be adjusted... I wasted so much time searching for vip lounge for priority pass cardholders.... such wasted time following the signs... for both left and right sighs ... Don't go upstairs, very deceptive, and this one worker tells me it's closed. I've was so upset. Turned out it was on the first floor... so there is a lounge.... so my rating from 3 stars went into 4. Was so happy to take a nap in the lounge.
