Very unique archeological site. I would expect these petroglyphs to be in a museum, instead they are in the exact same place they have been for 1000s of years. A guide takes you out to visit the site and you also can see archeologists tediously cleaning and sorting artifacts in a structure nearby.

UNESCO site 30 miles north of Mazatlan. Pleasant faculty Visitor Center. Guides are knowledgeable, eager to tell the stories, and friendly. Many historical features here. In this Covid season, bring a brown bag lunch to sit at the beach view. Value in going; wash your car after your visit. Will go back❣️

The positive energy here is palpable and it’s really amazing to be in the presence of this ancient site. The guides are great and I highly recommend checking it out. We’re visiting today for the 3rd time.

The archeological site of Las Labradas, about 1 hour north of Mazatlán, is something truly unique. There are about 640 petroglyphs (the oldest over 4500 years old!) carved into basaltic rocks that spill onto the shore of a deserted beach located near the Tropic of Cancer. They probably represent the way that the pre-colonial indigenous people of Sinaloa communicated with their gods. We went on a Wednesday at 9 am, and were the only people there. 85 pesos entry fee and 145 pesos for the highway “cuota” from Mazatlán. After visiting Las Labradas, you can visit El Quelite and have lunch there.

A great trip. Visit the archeological museum in Mazatlan first. Wear a hat! This is a spiritual place.

Amazing experience. Lucked out to be the only visitors. Amazing piece of history and energy to be had just 45 min away from Mazatlan. No food/ concessions.

😐 The Cacaxtla Plateau Wildlife Refuge isn't a developed ecotourism destination. The upstart businesses that served the area in the early 2000s are now defunct. The boundaries of this protected area are not identified, and there is no signage. Las Barras de Piaxtla has a maize of salt water estuari...
