Very disappointing. They said if you want a refrigerator or microwave in your room request it. I requested a refrigerator before arriving and during my 10 night stay never received it. The coffee maker in the room did not work, after asking everyday for another they replaced it finally on the 4th days. The AC was intermittently making a loud rattling noise. Complained about it never nothing was done. On the site that I made the reservation they started that there was on site parking for $35 per night. I parked in the garage where they were doing their Valet parking and the next morning I was charged $250. I asked the hotel and they said that they do not offer self parking. Should I continue?

My sister and I stayed for 3 nights this past weekend. The room was really basic compared to what it shoes online. That didn't matter much to me but for the price we paid it could have been a tad nicer. When we checked in the front desk guy was a bit rude. We had a hard time understanding him and while confirming the number of nights I thought he said 2 instead of 3 and whan I said 3 nights he responded with "that's what I just said" in an irritated tone. I apologized for mishearing him. We got our keys and our room was on the 3rd floor. The elevator is extremely tiny and very slow, 2 to 3 people max at a time. The carpet in the hallway is normally a greenish blue color, it was stained brown it was so filthy. They did shampoo it the next day which helped but it was still very dingy and smelt moldy after being cleaned. The walls were dirty with hand prints and smudges. The room was freezing cold upon arrival set on 60. The beds themselves were ok. My sheets did have stains on them. The bathroom shower is hard to navigate as the knobs are not put on correctly the middle one turns the shower head on but it was labeled as the hot water. The shower pressure is crazy high it feels like a pressure washer taking your skin off. There is not vent in the bathroom so it feels like a sauna and you're on the verge of passing out in 5 minutes. The walls are extremely thin. We had very loud neighbors on both sides of us and we heard every action and conversation clearly. Surrounding areas blast music 24/7 so prepare for that. People stand on the front steps/porch day and night harassing guests as they come and go trying to sell drugs and plastic pouches of alcohol. That was wild, I mentioned this to the front desk because I was trying to go out for a cigarette and a man was making me extremely uncomfortable, he just shrugged his shoulders. I witnessed the same hotel clerk in a heated argument with another man in the lobby. There was nearly a fight between 10 guys out on the patio and I had to walk through them. No housekeeping or fresh towels. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone a d I'd never stay here again by choice.

I wish there was a negative million stars rating to give to this barn. Zero for cleanliness, zero for staff, zero for amenities, zero for pricing and fees, and zero for all remaining aspects of this place. 1- Cleanliness: floor in the room was extremely dirty, god knows what’s on it, but had to wear sandals inside. Pillows smelled like Stuffed Cheesy Bread from Domino’s. 2- Staff: it was shocking to me how unfriendly and bland the staff were, especially those on the front desk. Wearing Air Pods while completing my check in and of course no eye contact or any clear explanation to why I am paying a $38 resort fee, no free water, no parking, no room service. NOTHING, just pay the $38 and shut it basically. I asked the staff for a fridge in my room (which should already be there) three separate times, and then finally when i started yelling they brought one. Extremely unprofessional staff. 3- Amenities: you get NONE. I stayed in Blue Moon Hotel for the previous week, and was provided rather with amazing service. Free bikes, beach towels, and complementary cocktails, for $22 resort fee, not $38 for NOTHING. 4- The overall price to quality rating for this place is 1/10. Because of all mentioned above. If you want to come on a 2 star vacation and clean your room yourself as well as babysitting the staff, then this is your ultimate destination. Oh and late check out will cost you $150 😂. Complete delusion! If you are coming to have fun, pay the extra buck and stay in Blue Moon, Moxy, or SLS I am begging you. Stay away from this disaster. Even Gordon Ramsay cannot fix this mess! Hope that helps!

Room had bed bugs when notifying the front desk they gave another room which had dirty sheets with makeup on them upon checking the room. After requesting bedding to be changed housekeeping said they did not have any clean sheets. We requested a refund and the front desk clerk walked off for 20 minutes without giving us a response and said nothing. Waited for over 45 minutes to respond leaving my party as well multiple other guests trying to check in without assistance. This place is horrible do yourself a favor and not stay here

Stayed here for a 3 night getaway with some girlfriends, it was awful. Elevator can’t fit more than 2 people not counting luggage, complimentary water bottles were half drank, room was filthy and not even big enough to open a suitcase, no amenities in room (fridge, microwave, etc) sketchy people crowding the hotel entrance late at night I do not recommend. But I do recommend the nachos at the cleavander , best part of my garbage vacation

The hotel is near for Ocean Drive and the hotel area has a lot of restaurants, bakery, and other attractions. The service can be better. I asked for Ice many times, and we didn't get ice for three consecutive days. Toilled needs a better cleaning too.

Good morning what am I missing If I could of received a full refund on check in day I would have left. 1- rude customer service they acted as if my issues were not their priority 2- there were no microwave or refrigerators available 3- the ice machine was broke and the front desk stated they would bring Ice to the room and NEVER did. 3- the elevator were out on my first night 4- there was no coffee or pastries 5- the free bikes were old and rusty 6- the free beach chairs were 5 blocks away. I booked a room for 4 and they only gave us 2 chairs 7-the TV was in Spanish mode and front desk told me to keep pushing buttons he was not sure how to work it 8- there was a loud vibrating noise randomly in the room 9- there was no ventilation in the bathroom nor did the bedroom windows open. So much for and emergency exit 10- the queen been was barely a full size 11-house keeping didn’t come at all we had to go take towels off the cart and take out our own trash 12-there was no common area 13- no vending machines 14 the perks for the Clevelander were not worth it.

The location is great! And that's about it. The hallway carpets are worn and could use a deep cleaning or replacement. The particular room I stayed in needed the door fixed. It didn't deadbolt lock. The bathroom doorknob was installed backwards so you couldn't just push the door shut without turning the knob. The bathroom toilet dripped constantly and at night would be all you heard in the room. The shower pressure could use some improvement. The housekeeping staff only turned down our room just one time my entire stay. We had to constantly ask for new towels for the room every day. So many small annoying things at this property lead to my rating. I don't know how they have 4 stars. The only good thing that happened was the front desk staff was very friendly, especially Simon. He made efforts to make the stay better.

It's a good location to party but the hotel needs to be updated n the website. There are no elevator to the suite which is not a suite just a bigger room. They didn't have a microwave like a requested. The fridge had a horrible smell. They didn't have ice machines. The staff was great especially the lady who worked overnight n the man in the morning. No pool n no gym. Overall I give it a 5.

The hotel is in a great location, steps to the beach and Ocean drive. There are lots of shopping, restaurant, and entertainment activities right outside the hotel. The hotel and room itself was ok, not great. The bed was comfortable and the sheets/towels were clean. The hotel could benefit from a coat of paint and a bit of updating, but for the price it was good. I am giving this hotel 4 stars because the staff are absolutely great. I had an issue with a faulty AC unit in my room and it was addressed right away and I was moved to a different room. The staff were great about this and did everything they could to make sure I was happy. I am giving them a 2.5 stars on the hotel and a 5 star for staff. 4 stars as an overall review :)

Hotel was dingy. Hot water was on & off. Asked for a blanket or something other than a sheet there separate days, nothing. The pool at the Cleveland was like the size of a pond. Tried calling several times to reserve a fridge, no answer to calls & emails sent. Only few outlets were working & what they had was limited. Staff was friendly & prime location, but lots of extra fees & will not be staying here next time I visit Miami.

Great location. Nice staff. However, there was no mirror in the room besides the small one in the bathroom. Every time we got dressed, we would have to dodge guests while going back and forth to the hallway to use the mirror.  The room itself was a small space and needed some more shelving/table space.  It worked for 2 people, but 4 in that room would have been a struggle. There was also a drainage problem in the tub. Having to stand in someone's bath water while taking a shower isn't an ideal situation. This probably wouldn't have been so bad if housekeeping cleaned the tub daily, but all they did was open the shower curtains. Also, the water pitcher in the lobby disappeared after day 2. When we asked an employee about it, he said his coworker broke it. I wonder how long it took them to replace it, because by day #5 there was still no water. For $100 a night deposit fee plus a daily resort fee, neither one of these should be an issue for guests. Thank you to the employee that heated up our leftovers for us, he saved the night!  For some reason they don't have a microwave for guests because of Covid.

The only good part of our stay was the kind gentleman that checked us in… the room is definitely not soundproof as advertised, floors were dirty, there are no ice machines so 40 min later and 2 calls to front desk we finally got ice delivered. Room service? Don’t bother dialing the 4125 number. After multiple calls with no answer, I called front desk which instructed us to go down to the bar and order food and ask them to deliver. Once at the bar to order food, the gentleman taking the order made sure to let my lady know how much of an inconvenience she was, though 20% tip is already added even when you have to walk down to the bar to get “room service”. Food was good though when she brought it up herself. Down to the moment we were leaving, valet guy handed me my keys and just left me and my full cart. I had $10 in my pocket to hand him as that’s my normal, but I didn’t get a chance to so I loaded up my car myself and left. I’m in south beach minimum once a year and have stayed and many places over the last 16 years. I usually stay at the same ones with great service and I should’ve done as I normally do. Lesson learned, I won’t be staying here again.

Rooms are looking decent comparing with the photos. Services are not as they promised. The cleaning is happening only after you ask 3-4 times for it. Room service is down. I cannot even order and pay with cash. Not ok..!

Our second trip to Miami for a Bachelor Party. We had thee double rooms. The staff ensured they were all on the same floor and next to each other. It’s a Great Place to stay and located in a super convenient spot. The rooms were clean and hotel staff were super friendly.

The hotel is in a very good location...one block from all the nightlife and restaurants. The hotel room itself was bland. Black and white. We had stained towels, although they smelled clean. They did makenour beds in the mornings, but garbage were not taken out, and I don't think they mop. the floors are linoleum. I walked barefoot on it, and when I got into the shower, I saw dirt blend in the water from my feet. The 1st hotel staff I encountered when I checked in was very helpful, but I didn't see him again. Never got his name but I called him Miami and he called me NY lol.

The hotel is old but renovated . Customer service made my stay 👌🏾top tier . Can't remember who helped me, but he had locks. If you are looking to sleep at night, this is not the hotel music is loud from both sides of the hotel till late on weekends. The location is right in the middle of everything. Also, they have beach chairs and beach towels, which makes the resort fee worth it.

Some staff was nice but most were rude at front desk. After checkout I forgot my beats headphones in drawer, 2hrs went back and they refused to let me check in the room even though the room was not being occupied yet. They only sent me to an online claim portal but never got back to me. How is it that you clean a room and don't have a lost and found in your lobby! Stop stealing people's valuables.

This is my new hotel to stay at whenever I visit south beach miami! The hotel itself is beautiful, they offer you 2 complimentary drinks at Clevelander next door and 2 breakfast sandwiches at bacon b**** downstairs. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfy! A few minutes walk from the beach and there’s tons to do all the time! The only negative is If your there to just sleep, I wouldn’t recommend it 😂 they party all day and night and you can hear it…but it IS Miami so I didn’t mind at all!

The hotel was in a great location! The room wasn’t the best nor was it the worst. For its age it’s well maintained. Only reason for taking away 1 star was because I was told the hotel had a pool we shared with the clevelander BUT so does all of South Beach Miami! The pool is off the main road is pumping music with about 100 people walking around and a large bar in the center. Anyone is free to come in. I asked the hotel receptionist if that was the only pool the property had and they said yes. The pool was extremely small. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend.

I don’t normally leave reviews but felt it’s important for potential guests to know what you actually get versus what the website and booking agencies say. What’s good - location, deco architecture, the lobby, the guys and the front desk (they were very helpful). What’s not - room was very run down and hadn’t been cleaned. Bed linens were dirty. The room was uncomfortably cold even with the air con off so we needed to sleep with the windows open (so you choose street noise or 13 Celsius). The valet parking will set you back $40 w/o tip but there’s a garage 50 feet away that’s $25 for the day. The resort fee is $38 but ironically there’s no resort the speak of, you just get to to use the pool at the Cleveland Hotel in front of the Essex. It’s a party place so be prepared for the noise and often bad behaviour that comes with it. It was bearable for our 1x night stay but you’ll get a cleaner, quieter and better value experience at a chain albeit without the great location.

From the moment I walked through the door of the Essex House I was greeted by friendly and very accommodating staff .I arrived at the Essex House by Clevelander early as my flight coming in arrived in the early am and due to my early arrival my room wasn't ready yet . After checking in upon arrival it was no problem for them to store my luggage at the hotel so I could go and have a bite to eat while I waited for my room to be ready. My room a King with two beds was beautiful and very comfortable and clean.Great view looking out to Collins Ave. Housekeeping staff great too .A special mention to Latoya who went above and beyond to makesure I had everything I needed including a refrigerator for my room and bringing one up to my room at nearly 1am in the morning Love the Essex House and Iam already booked again for another week long stay in August . Great location and convenient location close to everything in South Beach even Walgreens and a CVS. A favorite of the Art Deco hotels of mine and I recommend it highly.

Would give no stars if I could. Really bummed with this experience. First room we were placed in REEKED of cat urine. We changed to another room, but it took hours to figure out as the staff is pretty unsure how to communicate. The hotel fees are absurd for what you get, and the valet is very expensive. Also, the valet sometimes takes THIRTY minutes because the person has decided to not be there. The worst of all? We never received our deposit back and it’s been two weeks of calling and calling with not ONE single person ever responding. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

if your looking for a run down place, then this is the hotel. The rooms smell like there's mold growing. the washroom are so small, and the toilet doesn't work properly, you have to flush is 3 time in order for it to work. we where there for 5 days and not once did the hot water work, we had to take showers with cold water. if your looking to save couple of bucks, and think its cheaper, i would recommend you to NOT book it.

Location is ELEVEN STARS. Suites were underwhelming (smaller than I imagined from online pics) Service was decent to good but PLEASE bring some OFF or insect repellent if you are staying in one of the upstairs suites (back side of hotel) bcuz I killed like 10 of them in my room and there were like 30 outside the door on the way up to the room. They also have a nice drink special at Clevelander that comes with the stay which is nice. But aside from all that I'd stay again knowing all this now. Because the location is tough to beat.

Essex House hotel was a place to stay but expensive for what you get. No elevator, old 1950 or so I'd guess. The shower was in big old hot tub and slippery when you step down into it. I was on the 6th floor. No elevator. It was in an area of party town. Seemed like the entire city of Miami was a party town with friendly young people. Rooms were clean.

We enjoyed our stay very much Great service at the desk we got some free drinks and recieved our rooms quickly! This hotel also has a really cool bar called kush Only 2 things were less then perfect, the walls are very thin you can hear everything from next door (so enough that we were normally talking and our next door neighbor complained) and the next thing is the parking... so expensive to park in south beach in General though

I stayed one night at the Essex Hotel and the room itself was just okay for me BUT the customer service from the Hotel front desk staff Beauce (name of gentleman) was outstanding!! Beauce was extremely nice and accommodating. He even allowed us to hold our luggage once we checked out so we can enjoy the views of walking the South Beach Strip for a few hours until it was time to check my airbnb. Our luggage was locked up safe. The hotel was clean and quiet. I would recommend for a short stay!

Good alternative to the loud party atmosphere at the sister hotel Clevelander. Be advised, if you choose the suites there is no elevator to the 2nd floor. (There is an elevator to the regular rooms). Also the giant sauna tub is very difficult to get in and out of. However other than that, I was quite pleased with the room and hotel. Customer service was excellent. All staff was extremely professional, courteous and accommodating. Both the day clerk (I think his name was Jason) and the night clerk (I forget his name; he wore locs) did everything possible to make our stay a good one. Even LaToya, head of housekeeping, looked out for us. The best thing about the Essex is location: 5 minute walks to the beach, restaurants, and bars. Only had to use Uber once (outside of transit to airport).
