I was in Miami on Business. I had one half of a day of free time and discovered *there was a kava bar on south beach* ! I took a Lyft over to South Beach (Miami is a Lyft city, not Uber) and made my way down to Purple Lotus after lunch and a walk on the beach. Just look for the place near where surfers park. There's comfy chairs and tables out front, but I went inside for the bar and wifi. There's a strong Polynesian vibe upon entering. I parked myself at the bar and was immediately approached by the bar tender. The menu is mounted in a set of great white shark jaws. While kratom tea sounds nice, my mission was a nice kava session. I ordered a single serving of the house varietal, which was served in a coconut shell with a glass of water (nice touch, especially if you're not accustomed to the taste). I spent the next couple of hours drinking kava and working on my laptop while an excellent choice of modern reggae/dub (Damien Marley, Sol Seeds, Stick Figure, etc.) played on the big screen over the bar. The patrons were all smart people talking shop in skilled fields and working their laptops, and the bar tender was super accommodating and laid back. **In summary I was in my element here**. My third serving was the Vanuatu varietal, which the tender gladly prepared for me in a to-go container. I definitely recommend the Vanuatu if you're new to Kava and are unaccustomed to it's effects. I think the kava was stronger at Low Tide in St. Petersburg but that's many hours away and to be honest the distance practically makes it almost apples to oranges. 4/5 - highlight of my solo Miami session

I liked this place — loved the atmosphere and the crowd that showed up. Felt close to a west coast place, but with the good parts leaving the bad if that makes sense haha I DO think the kava-tenders, and by definition the owners through better hires or training, could do a better job at welcoming 1st timers/newbies. I had a few very brief experiences at a music festival/house gatherings with kava/Kratom (never together) many years ago and I didn’t feel there was any info graphics readily available to help guide my experience on what to expect, as well as what to do/not do as basically a first timer. Because of this - I had a few innocent questions before partaking about mixing with alcohol, to drink slowly/fast, how long it was supposed to take to feel anything/how long it may last —- all of these could of been remedied with some simple infographics or pamphlets laying around, or a QR code to scan — “New here? questions and concerns— scan here”. If a tender is too busy/annoyed to help basic questions they could simply hand you a flier or QR code to scan. As it stood— the tenders were almost Annoyed to answer my questions? and they weren’t so busy that they couldn’t… that made me feel unwelcome and this was exclusive for regulars and experienced people only.. not the environment I would expect for something so cool of a concept and crowd hanging out. Although my first experience wasn’t ideal— I do think these are easy remedies if the owners take to heart and/or just an off night. I wish them the best!

The vibe of the place is chill, but the barback was super unfriendly and it seemed like he hated being there. Didn't make me get the feeling of excited to go back. Kava tender was super friendly though.

Tuesday night is the best night to check out this place! Ben is my favorite Kava-tender and the music is great. LIVE performances by the Poppies every Tuesday, my favorite local band!

This place was like taking a vacation. Definitely a more than relaxing environment. Once you walk in the place has a very islander feeling and design. With this and the music, which stays at a vibrant mellow, you are sure to feel in paradise. What's interesting about this place is though they sell regular drinks, they also have the healthier and underaged option of Cava. Cava is a drink that taste similar to the Argentinian drink: "Mate". Cava has that particular fresh brewed strong herbal flavor. It also gives your body and mind a slight euphoria as would a regular alcoholic drink, without leaving your body with all the toxins alchohol would. I highly recommend you talk to JP, one of the bar tenders, about the different cava drinks as he made my experience very welcoming.

It's a cool place to hang. The staff are fun and unique. I do think Kava Garden has better quality drinks. But, location location location.

Absolutely beyond incredible and one of the most chillax ambiences to encounter. JP who's one of the Kava-tenders was super professional, congenial and knowledgeable. The overall vibe was way more pleasant than your A-typical crazy South Beach bar and is a great social spot to just unwind for the day. Definitely will come back!

My friends and I always have a wonderful time at this place. Love the story behind the drinks, the atmosphere is always chill and relaxing, one of my favorite places to visit to sit back and let go of the days stress. The beach is only a few steps away. Great location, tasty drinks and cool vibes. Highly recommend!

South Beach is full of awesome locations to visit and for me, the Purple Lotus is easily in the top 5. The bartenders are awesome and the atmosphere is not only unique, it’s also perfect for anyone looking to try something new. Most other businesses on the beach are great but they all center around loud music and alcohol. The Lotus is a 1 minute walk to the beach and most of their regulars are locals. You can have actual conversations and relax while learning about a completely new type of herb that relieves stress and pain and anxiety while keeping a clear head. I have been going for years and the people are great and if I feel like working out or being creative or just getting a good night sleep, it’s all possible after enjoying their signature drink (the Komodo), and the staff will make sure you get the most out of it by understanding their products and the rich history behind it all. I’ve introduced this place to several of my friends and they all come regularly now. Definitely make sure you stop by even if it’s just to see the awesome atmosphere on your way to the beach in South Point. Well worth it.
