I’m
starting
to
notice
that
nail
salons
are
a
lot
like
romantic
relationships.
It
starts
out
with
everyone
on
their
best
behavior,
but
before
long,
you
usually
feel
like
you’re
being
taken
for
granted.
This
place
is
no
exception.
After
four
bad
experiences
in
a
row,
I
finally
made
the
decision
this
morning
to
remove
my
Japanese
gels
myself.
I’ve
already
been
doing
my
pedicures
at
home
for
the
last
month.
Issues
I’ve
experienced
include:
-
Your
cuticles
will
either
be
ignored,
or
they
will
be
butchered.
I
actually
started
seeing
a
different
technician
every
couple
of
months
to
remove
cuticles
and
prevent
ingrown
toenails,
but
the
last
time
I
saw
that
person,
my
toenails
were
visibly
injured
for
about
three
weeks.
Yeah,
it
cleaned
up
my
cuticles,
but
I
was
in
pain,
and
it
wasn’t
the
first
time.
-
Removal?
Yeah,
right.
With
a
touch
of
irony,
the
very
first
person
I
saw
here
insisted
that
gel
pedicures
would
not
wear
down
my
toenails
because
they
did
the
removal
better.
Sure.
That
totally
explains
why
my
big
toes
were
fragmenting
after
a
few
months.
-
They
will
insist
that
new
gel
technology
is
better
than
acrylics
or
any
other
option.
it
is,
but
it
gives
them
an
opportunity
to
literally
use
pliers
to
rip
off
damaged
areas
before
reapplying.
In
other
words,
there’s
no
removal
process,
and
that’s
better
for
their
business
than
it
is
for
my
nail
health.
-
You’re
going
to
be
rushed.
They
won’t
necessarily
be
on
time,
but
they
will
call
you
if
you
are
three
minutes
late.
You
may
not
get
the
person
that
you
asked
for.
The
best
you
can
expect
is
that
the
product
will
be
applied
in
an
attractive
way.
I
started
tracking
the
actual
time
spent,
and
per
hour,
these
folks
bill
almost
as
high
as
IT
consultants.
-
Quality
varies
drastically.
After
being
left
bleeding
by
one
tech
and
rushed
out
the
door
by
another,
I
saw
someone
new,
and
my
Japanese
gels
were
lifting
within
seven
days.
The
main
reason
that
I
kept
coming
here
was
that,
even
though
I
felt
like
my
nails
were
being
butchered,
they
looked
good
for
a
solid
three
weeks.
Even
after
the
fix,
I
had
half
of
my
nails
lifting
after
another
week.
The
main
reason
I
would
pay
for
a
professional
to
do
my
nails
is
hassle
and
for
them
to
look
fantastic,
and
neither
one
of
these
things
is
true
anymore.
I’ll
give
them
credit,
Japanese
gel
technology
is
good
enough
that
I
seriously
thought
about
learning
to
do
it
myself.
But
I
wouldn’t
go
back
here.
The
main
selling
point
was
the
Japanese
gels,
and
I’d
rather
put
a
clearcoat
on
my
own
nails
than
deal
with
the
attitude
and
inconsistency
at
Mira.
