Beautiful church full of history in the red light district area. The route covers multiple floors composed by historical, well preserved installations and of course the patio and pulpit. Very useful audio guide included in the ticket. You can also storage your things in a locker while visiting. I highly recommend going during the week and as early as possible, as the rooms are not very spacious and the crowds might interfere in your experience

The best place I've visited in A'dam! Beautiful under every aspect. Unique place to see, nice and interesting audio guide with a lot of info. Fun patch for the kids. Really enjoyed it! Not adding a lot of pictures so the visit is more exciting; living places, the church, the storage area, the organ and all the decorative items to be seen first person!

This is a very interesting museum. It's a house church. Unlike other churches, this Catholic church is hidden inside someone's house. And you will find out why they did this at the museum. It's not a big place, because it's someone's house. But It has everything that a church supposed to have. And people used to conduct mass and services here.

The story and the name of this church: Our Lord in the Attic, truly gives a deep meaning of humility and sacrifice of being a Catholic. We arrived here almost at closing time but the staffs are so kind to allow us to enter the church although we couldn't use the audio guide anymore, and it was a very memorable and touching experience.

This was a really interesting little museum, providing information on the merchant history of Amsterdam as well obviously as the religious history. We didn't book in advance and there was no problem getting tickets. It's fairly small so will take no more than a couple of hours to see at the very most, so I thought the entry price was a little expensive. There is a cafe upstairs and lockers to secure your bags.

Highly recommend this museum! I normally am not too interested in the church. But the hidden church really shows the contrast of daily life and religion. The restoration team also does a really good job on showing all the detail through the guide. The modern facilities like the toilet and cloakroom are clean and nice to use.

Highly recommend this museum during an Amsterdam visit!! Even if you are not interested in the historical impact of the house churches, seeing a canal house on the inside that has much of its original design intact (including flooring, 2 original stair cases, wallpaper, and more) makes this a must see! The free audio tour (in many languages) elevates a visit more than many other museums. Give yourself an hour to go through and listen to all the main stops. Many rooms have optional additional information about the family that lived there, art, and other details. If you have another 20 minutes it is worth it! The church in the attic has to been seen to be fully appreciated! Two levels and a pipe organ! The audio tour provides good information about religious freedom in Amsterdam after the protestant movement and a close up look of the liturgical elements of a Catholic church. Put a visit here at the top of your list!

What an amazing experience here! I didn’t expect something so interesting! To start: I booked the experience a few days before. When we arrived they checked our booking and let us leave our bags in the guardroom (near the toilets). Then the visit began at the souterrain floor, passing through secret rooms, house rooms, until reaching the church on the higher floors. Unexpectedly beautiful! The experience was also completed by the complimentary audioguide. And the workers/ guardians gave also other precious information if you asked. Recommended. This jewel should be more famous.

OK, this is something really special and unexpected - a former ordinary Amsterdam house turned into a beautiful hidden place of worship. At the entrance you get a free audio device which is easy to use and you walk through the converted interior listening to the history of the city and of this special place. Every room inside tells a story about how people can adapt to just about anything in a time of need, but the main worship hall is just breathtaking. You can literally see the floor which was sawed through to make the upper gallery for worshippers and the beautiful altar in the middle. We were there just after Christmas so the place was decorated and gave such a peaceful vibe. The house is in the Red Light District, so it's a welcome rest stop from the busy streets. Definitely a must see.

Beautiful historic church, easy to understand via the audio guides. Great museum experience. As a Christian, I loved visiting a learning about the house churches and the Catholic history in Amsterdam. Brilliant experience, recommended to me by a restaurant manager. Loved this museum.

We visited this place as soon as it opens. It was Sunday afternoon and people are starting to get crowded. So much history to tell from this Attic church. Audio guide is available at no cost. It comes from all different languages. The place is quite small so going through from one room to another can be quite tight when it is crowded. Our visit is wonderful. We stayed as much as we can. Audio guide in various languages are available at no cost. Try to listen to all the audio guide series and some video as an added explanation. There is no small coffee shop at the premises. Small shop is decent. Ticket windows are next to the museum shop. Toilette and lockers are available. It was really an educational visit for us.

Very interesting museum explaining the history of the hidden church. The entrance is not free as advertised on Google maps (currently EUR 16.50) but it's definitely worth it; the whole museum is also much larger than I expected. The price also includes an audio guide.

This was a hidden gem. We found it while looking for things to do before we travelled here. It was one of the most interesting places we went to. After so many museums and so much art work it was great to see something different. The price included a free audio guide and free lockers. The staff were lovely and you learn a lot about Dutch history throughout the tour

What I must say is: what a surprising museum! It’s not very conspicuous on the street, but what inside are fabulous! A lot of things to see, and also for the kids there are special tasks, which made them feel lovely. Very thoughtful and warm. There are also plenty of languages of the audio guides. Super! We will definitely come back again!

(Translated by Google) Beautiful and surprisingly spacious museum. A must see! The entire museum can be viewed in about two hours. A handy audio tour is available in several languages. This museum offers more than just a unique encounter with a so-called Roman Catholic hidden church. There is also a unique view of the Netherlands in the 17th century. (Original) Mooi en verrassend ruim museum. Een must see! Het gehele museum is te bekijken in ongeveer twee uur. Een handige audiotour is in meerdere talen verkrijgbaar. This museum is truly a hidden gem. Exploring the old house and discovering its transformation into a nearly secret church was an extraordinary experience. The audioguide significantly enhances the visit, providing fascinating insights and stories. Additionally, the staff were really kind and helpful, contributing to a memorable visit. This is perhaps the most fascinating and truly one-of-a-kind Catholic Church I’ve ever been to. SMALL as it is, it has everything and encapsulates a BIG history. The audio guide is excellent and the view on the top floor is great. A hidden gem, literally, in Amsterdam, it’s very close to the Red Light District. This is Amsterdam that satisfies both carnally and spiritually, in a cryptic way!!

This is a little gem that is worth a visit. You don't have to be a Catholic (or a religious) to visit this place. There are a lot more to appreciate than the church itself. This is private residents, a place of business and a warehouse, as well as a church. The architecture and development of the house was special, remembering that all that was done in the 1600s. Everything was thought of to make it a functioning building for the 3 purposes. You have got to think the work that went into this, and you will be in awe. Booking in advance is not necessary however, can be an advantage.

Wonderful hidden church in an old house close to the red light district in Amsterdam. The entrance is in a cool new building, where you pay 12 euro to enter and get an overview and a audio guide. There are lockers and bathrooms and a cafe, all air conditioned! The tour of the house is fabulous, the best part is the hidden church which was typical of the 18 century when Catholic church was persecuted by protestants. Wonderful tour, highly recommended, no crowds etc. Don't miss the special art display!

Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder, also known as Lord in the Attic, located at Oudezijds Voorburgwal 38, right in the middle of the city center and red light district is definitely a must see when visiting Amsterdam. It was built as a hidden church on the top three levels of three houses for Catholic worshippers who could not worship in public during the Dutch Reformation. Since it was a hidden church, I thought it would be small and cramped but the actual space for the church was quite roomy and the buildings in which it is housed were very impressive. The restoration of this museum did a very good job in showing how it looked back when the church was in service and at moments, while looking out a window, or standing in the formal room admiring a wall portrait, you could almost feel like you were back in time. Was worth a visit and I plan to return.

(Translated by Google) A surprisingly nice museum. Beautifully built and certainly worth it, here you imagine yourself back in time and you are confronted with our dear Lord on Solder. A 3-storey high church in a warehouse. And those who take the trouble and look outside can enjoy a beautiful view. The audio tour works very well and the staff is friendly and helpful. The photos give an impression, but walk through the building and experience the corridors, stairs, etc. you can really only in the museum itself and if you have the opportunity you really have to do that. The audio tour also provides a lot of useful information. (Original) Een verrassend leuk museum.

Easily one of my favorite museums I visited in Amsterdam. The concept alone places it in the #gem category. I gained a plethora of knowledge about not only the church but the history of Amsterdam. Sadly due to its large number of stairs and narrow hallways, it is not accessibility friendly. The audio guide tour is in several languages and flows remarkably well from station to station. The experience is worth the cost of admittance two times over!

Very interesting place to live the history of the city. Inside the building there is a hidden catholic church, where people used to celebrate the mass during the XVI century-as there was no free of religion. It is well preserved with original interiors.

My favorite attraction from this trip! I've been to Amsterdam before and seen the popular art museums and sites. This is a hidden gem. Especially if you're Catholic. I had never heard of house churches. Great history and explanations via the audio tour. Each audio stop is brief but packed with information so I wasn't walking around with that thing to my ear the whole time. Beautiful church and one of the guides says they still celebrate Mass the first Sunday of every month. Highly recommended for Catholics, those looking for lesser visited attractions and fans of architecture.

  • 5/5 Akash K. 1 year ago on Google
Fabulous, marvellous, and excellent, these are some of the words I can use for the place. The place is very well maintained, and the information about the exhibits is of really good quality. At the entrance, I didn't expect this place to hide such a deep history within its chest. The staff is very helpful, I would recommend this museum

  • 5/5 Jeremy H. 1 year ago on Google
You have to see this church to believe it. It's fun to climb through the stairs to all the different rooms. It's amazing to think that people had to go incognito into a place like this to worship the way they wanted to.

  • 4/5 Andrew Y. 11 months ago on Google
A lot to see, and a lot of history to take-in, but you can also just enjoy the journey through this fascinating building. Be warned: there are a lot of steps. (It actually has a novel system for allowing visitors with mobility issues to virtually accompany a fellow visitor.)

  • 1/5 Gerardo G. 8 months ago on Google
Very interesting! Back in the day, a calndestine Catholic church built in the upper floors of three buildings. The bad review is for the extrict student discount. They chose to make the discount only for international students card holders. I went with a student from the States, and all the museums we visited in Belgium and the Netherlands accept her student id. Bottom line students pay the full price. Edit: they say it is a challenge to identify different students cards from all the world. Funny, it is not a challenge for the rest of museum we visited in the Netherlands that accept any student ID. I guess it is not a callenge for their staff but a benefit for them...

A phenomenally crafted experience. You start in the very modern lobby, put your stuff in a free locker, and then enter the home. The stark contrast of the modern architecture with the well preserved/restored house was a phenomenal entry into the space. The people were lovely and the audio guide was well done. Highly recommend.

While not the most opulent church, it is spectacular in its context. A gentle telling about the house and it's history on the audio guide that gives the house is historical context and it is interesting to compare with hidden Catholic churches in the UK which had to be secret. A flavour of housing of the era is created.

Worth a quick visit, it is very interesting to see such a lavish, big and beautiful attic area, converted into a Catholic Church. There are also several family rooms recreated, including a couple of the small, short beds that people used to use. They slept propped up on pillows as per the habit in those days, maybe due to believing it was not healthy for adults to have blood drain out of the head area! I visited as part of tour guide Rick Steves free "Red Light District" audio - do a search online to download it!

Take a ticket from nearby museum. 12.5 Euro per adult, move through underground and move to next building where the church used to residents. Dwell into the secret church and history for 1960s enjoy the life, the reich fashion, the kitchen, the priest life, the altar, the secret liar inside the altar, u cna view the modern St nicholas church from the altar, the old church itself where we stand and the future of Amsterdam through the opposite window the city itself. A lot worth to see in one single place.. A lot of paintings, the art of that period, the have reconstructed it to exactly depict how it was in those days
