Definitely one of the best museums in the Netherlands! Plenty of interactive items teach you a lot about one of the most essential technologies of mankind. It's fascinating to learn deep sophisticated aspects of the various train types as they have been the most essential transport since several centuries. Well designed museum, certainly worht to every penny. A must-visit in Utrecht.

I highly recommend seeing this museum if you come to Utrecht. We decided to pay a visit as the weather wasn't great and we weren't disappointed at all. It's huge inside with so much to see and do. Super interactive activities for the children and lots facts to be learned. They installed a winter station as it's Christmas so it's a bonus. There were ice rink and eat and drink places. We came after 3pm so only 10 Euro per head to be paid as a discounted fare (but you have to reserve your place online in advance during festive season). Both adults and children would thoroughly enjoy it.

Most of the people that I saw in the museum, were adults with little kids. As a guy (single 😉), I came alone and really enjoy the time here. I use the train a lot in my days, so to witness the history in a fun way was a blast. All on board!! 🚂

We loved it. The winter station was awesome and there were a lot of activities for kids. The skating rink is awesome with enough space for kids and adults. The collection of trains is great with some very unique carriages. Many places to eat. Easily accessible. No nearby bus stop but there is a sprinter from Utrecht Centraal which runs every hour.

We went to this museum with my 5 year old son at the weekend. Access to the museum is really easy, walking distance from Utrecht Centraal train station. If you are coming by car, it has its own parking lot right in front of it. You can use this car park for 9.50 Euros. Museumkaart is valid. Inside, you can find everything about trains. It is also very fun for children because there are some special activities for them. For example, there is a special little train and dresin for them in the children's playground outside. You can take a journey from the first steam train in the Netherlands to the present day. You can also go 200 years ago with a time machine and visit a Dutch town that existed at that time. We spent about 4 hours and I advise you to spend at least half a day here.

Loved the experience. A great experience and ticket price is rewasonable. Its a big area with trains of different eras, great experience sections of old mines/workshops, time travel and lab. It has wide variety of cafes and sitting space. Keep time margin of minimu 3 hours to explore fully inside and also wear comfy shoes so that you can enjoy easily. Simply beautiful and informative experience. Highly recommended for people who love history, want to explore evolution and children education.

This is a brilliant destination, whether for a family or an individual visitor. So much to see, with an excellent cafeteria to have a break from walking around. The knowledgeable staff are approachable, and they share their expertise freely. A great place to spend 2-4 hours!

One of the best museums I've been. It's good to go with kids because they have a lot of activities and playgrounds for them, also a small train for them. They have a huge variety of real trains with inside decorations.

A very nice & specially kids friendly museum that’s included in the museum card. Visited many times already. In the winter there is an ice skating ring that you can skate between the trains. And even with live music! Very lovely Christmasy atmosphere. You can rent hockey skates here for free if you don’t have your own ones. And they’ve even have a small practice corner for little ones. Quite crowded, but we still would spend couple of hours playing on ice. The two most fun things not to miss I would say the Vuurproef & the theater show. Always long queue, but you won’t regret. Besides that also the little train, mash mellow on fire, build your own train, etc. You could spend the whole day here. Highly recommended for family with kids. Parking can be easily full if you visit during public holidays.

We went to the winter wonderland here and had the best time. Activities included ice skating, a carousel and a family photo! There was also a show on outside. We enjoyed the fresh hot donuts and toasting our own marshmallows. Highly recommend this place. Staff were friendly too.

(Translated by Google) Interesting for young and old. In addition to beautiful railway equipment, a model railway with Amsterdam CS from the early years. There is a Techlab with explanations about rails and switches. The now famous Fire Trial is a must. In addition, there are recurring events (including Thomas, OnTraxs) and temporary exhibitions. Something for everyone and lots to experience and do. The collection is regularly 'refreshed'. A great place to see old and retired Dutch trains, and as a day trip, was an interesting place to go. And with a mix of history and activities, seems like it would make a good place to go for families.

One of the best museum in Netherlands. A must visit. History is neatly preserved. It's spread in a decent area and every bit of space is utilized to amplify the experience. How to reach - - By car, it can be easily reached. There is paid parking in front of the museum for 9.5 eur. But reach early, the spots can fill up and road side paid parking in Utrecht is very costly. - There is a shuttle train from Utrecht central to museum entrance for every one hour. Best for the travellers. - You also can have a walk from central station through Saturday market, canals, cafes and parks which is refreshing. Alternatively you can take bus 4, 8, 50 to reach near by and have a short walk. - You need one full day to completely experience the museum. Kids will love it.

The Museum is very educative for the children's and there are loads of information which children can learn from. I believe the children's from the age 8 and above can heap the maximum benefit. The souvenir shop is strictly OK and doesn't offer much to the visitors. The cafeteria is nice and it is much like "La Place". The Best part of the Museum is the 3D Train ride (Must Do). The entire museum can be completed in less that 4 hours so lookout for the discount offered on the website. TIP: There is very limited parking space (~200) so go early and book the slot (~€9.5) else you would have to pay approx 30.00 2 star are deducted because no clear information is provided on website that they have limited parking space.

This is really just a railway museum. A lot of information about (Dutch) trains and enough of interactive attractions, which were the higlight for us. They also have a small theatre where we got dragged to by a woman, turned out that that woman did the whole show alone ! It was really bad though, but maybe funny for kids. We were glad it ended. We do not recommend this show for tourists. If you like trains you will love it ! We celebrated a joined birtday here so natutally there were also people who don't like trains (like myself) but even if you don't like trains at all you can still enjoy the attractions and have a coffee in the café, it's a nice place. Ticket price : 17,50 (even for a child !) With museum pass it is free and you can use vouchers.

A one of a kind experience. When you enter this museum you are thrown back in time. An old station is transformed into a beautiful entrance to the large space where you'll find a wide variety of old trains. The museam is beautiful and filled with surprises for young and old. A must see for lovers of trains and everyone else.

Great museum about the history of the railroad in the Netherlands. The exhibition is extremely large and is ideal for children and adults. I especially liked the historic station building and the various interactive elements. What was great was that I was also able to enter various carriages. Visitors should plan four hours for the exhibition. The on-site team was extremely friendly and helpful. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office or in advance online.

Amazing museum about the different trains in the Netherlands. There are many locomotives that you can see. There are some interactive set-ups to play with to understand some of the physics of trains. Also there are several attractions to visit like a small roller coaster and a kind of interactive movie of a train driving. There is also a nice cafeteria inside the museum and they accept the museumkaart.

The dutch are proud of their efficient railway system and the museum is a testament to that, located a short distance from Utrecht Central the museum is a combination of history, sound and light show, fun and games for kids and memorabilia galore! A must do for kids, from a grown up standpoint it might not do full justice if you are a hard core train enthusiast, the museum in Milan (Italy) by comparison is far better. The museum has a few historic coaches, lots of memorabilia, a moving trolley light and sound show which was decent and a small exhibit focused on hyper loop with Elon Musk credited for the concept. Ticket is 17 euros for adults and 12 euro for parking, there is a train (Sprinter) from the museum to Utrecht central, you might want to check for timings. Plan between 2.5 hours to 4 hours for the museum, that should cover everything. Decent toilet facilities are available and you have a few food options as well.

Fun and interesting, interactive trains, to look at and explore. This is a fun day out for children, teens and adults alike! The museum is very easy to navigate and you automatically end up seeing most of the trains. There is a nice little restaurant area, with food and drinks. Although kind of expensive, the food tasted good and was freshly prepared. There is also a huge outdoor area, with an exciting attraction and a mini train for kids. This is a great day out and I would definitely recommend spending the day here! Museums don't have to be boring!

Train after train, many of which can be walked through. This museum is much more than a typical display of old objects behind glass. Those who wish to see a piece of theater, how people ate on the go and how the railroads helped in WWII. Will find all of that here, and much more.

One of the best museums in the country, and one of the best of its type in the world. Just visit and reserve at least two to three hours, especially if trains are your thing. Only negative, too oriented towards children.

I think this museum is one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands. Very rich in details, old trains, films, event halls and play/science stations. We really loved it as a whole family. And if it came to a goodbye, the kids didn't want to leave - that is the best result a musuem can have. The restaurant is also good, even the toilets are not as usual.

(Translated by Google) Overall a nice museum to visit. It is located in a special place in Utrecht! It was very entertaining to walk through, but there was little real educational value. Despite that, they dressed it up nicely. Walking through the compartments was very entertaining, also the mounted "time machine" attraction was well put together. The museum is mainly aimed at children, this was noticeable in many areas. There was no real depth for older visitors. Would plan a trip here again.

For example, we would have liked if you could also see a train inside where the driver is. And how that works. But you don't see much of that. And we had hoped / expected that. But it certainly looks great. Parking space is small. But you are well referred to other parking places.

A really nice museum to learn more about train history especially in the Netherlands. There are some interactive media and rides which are fun not only for children but adults too. The exhibition has English translation, but all rides are in Dutch, but the staff would kindly give a short explanation in English to non-Dutch speakers in the beginning of the rides. Totally recommend it for all ages. There is also a special train which takes us straight to the museum (Utrecht Maliebaan train station) from Utrecht Centraal.

what could possibly be a really dull museum os perked by some really fascinating exhibitions. some might be a tad scary for little kids (the Steel Monster ride was a bit scary for this big kid!) but overall a really fun, interactive and tangible look at the history of the railway. A great place to bring kids. the parking was plentiful (but in fairness it was a slow day).

Had so much fun in this museum! Many things to see and they put effort in nice little details! You can walk through old trains, walk through an old village with train station (looks like movie scene), look at tiny train models, see a kids theatre show and go for a ride in a spooky train rollercoaster (not super intense). There were many interactive things and they clearly put effort in making it fun for children! There was also a restaurant and a snackbar. We didn't have time to see everything, but would love to come back sometime!

Went here with the Family a week ago. The kids loved it and they had fun for a while, however we had to keep telling them " not that one son, that one is broken". Yeah there was not mush to see and when there was, then 50% chance that it was out of service or broken. We could not even flush the toilet because that to was broken. So no, we will not be visiting it any time soon even if the kids had some fun. When you pay for something you must have the feeling that it was worth your money, and it was not. So i wanted to give it a 1 star however because of the kids i will give it 2 stars.

Family’s favorite museum! Every time discovering new details. Recently they built the new hyperloop corner, really informative and fun to learn the latest development in railways! The content, experiment and movies are soooo well made even my 4,5 year old can follow the materials. Looking forward to visiting again!

Good place to take children. Lots of infrastructure here for the railway geek but this market is less well catered for. I'd love to know what the problems previous generations faced in this context were and how they were solved. Also the variety and chronology is not really clear. I'd like to put in a vote for that.

The parking is a problem, always no place I guess, so you have to drive about 1km or 2km away to find parking. The Meuse is fun and crowded, suitable for kids above 8 or more ,due to the science experiment and lots of instructions.

This place is great. Best places are hidden under doors. There is a real train to ride, and also there is a nice simulator train that your kids can enjoy.

One of my top #1 favorite museums in all Holland. Fun, interesting, dynamic, for all ages. It's not cheap and the food isn't great, so I recommend eating outside and using a museum card. However, if you don't, it's one of the very few museums that are REALLY worth the price. SO BEAUTIFUL!

A must visit with family and especially kids. Well maintained history of NL trains and models. A fun filled day with surprising events. Recommended for kids to know and understand Dutch railways

Great addition to a trip to Utrecht! A lot to see and learn, very well put together displays, could easily spend a few hours here! Lots of people with kids as it had a lot of kid friendly parts to it At 28, I enjoyed every minute of it Cafe on site which was not too expensive and had decent food/drinks

A great and big museum for all railway fans. But also if you are not a big fan, you will find here something interesting. So I really recommend it for everyone.

Awesome museum with train theme. They have old trains which we can get on and take a look, and many participation opportunities for the kids. I will explore more parts on the next visit 😃 the museum is really big so it might take long time to explore all the parts

Must see for kids and adults alike. It is a lot of fun for kids. Must visit spots - Stalen monsters, trial by fire. There are far too many small things to see. You can go and sit in historic trains from hundred years ago or more. The place is a gold mine for history enthusiasts and young children.

Great activity in Utrecht, interesting historical engines and coaches, some to walk through, some to just see from outside.

Hoi Peeps! I've got a review for you that'll make you book a ticket to visit this museum as well. One of my kid is a train enthusiast, even at a young age, and his love for model trains caught the attention of Buurtgezinnen organization, who hooked us up with some free passes to the Spoorweg Museum Utrecht. We couldn't be more grateful for this sweet gesture that supports my kid's hobby. Thank you Buurtgezinnen and Spoorweg Museum! When we walked through those museum gates, we were in awe of the fact that this place has been around for nearly a century, witnessing all sorts of historical events, renovations, expansions, remodels, and reopens. It's like a time machine that takes you on a journey through the evolution of transportation technology, where rail transport is the backbone of this country's infrastructure, connecting major cities and towns. We were blown away by the Longmoor, NS 3700, NS 5000, and various train cars, freight cars, trams, you name it. It was like we were on an adventure, experiencing the grandeur and glory of steam locomotives, electric locomotives, and diesel locomotives in their prime. And the staff there are so enthusiastic, you can feel their excitement rubbing off on you in every inch of that museum. It was an unforgettable experience, and we spent the whole day exploring every exhibit and ride. As for the chow, there are plenty of food vendors to keep you from getting hangry. From all sorts of fried goodies, sandwiches, soup, salad, drinks, and snacks, they've got it all covered. And don't forget to hit up the souvenir shop! We snagged some cool stuff like fridge magnets, postcards, wooden toys, and even some dope threads. It's the perfect place to grab a memorable keepsake. Once is simply not enough, we're already planning our next visit to relive the magical experience. Don't miss out on this gem, Fellas!

Happy to be back and to see that the museum is still evolving.. in a positive way for sure. The new “Iron Giants” ride is gorgeous. As always, the trains are polished until you can see yourself and the depth of information is great.

A great place to visit whether you like trains or not ! Just a wonderful way to know more about this means of transport for kids and adults. I would have love to have a section dedicated to what is needed to make a train function properly. The steel monsters attraction was a bit to light. It is worth the visit !

The Utrecht Railway Museum is a gem for both young and old alike. This museum, dedicated to the fascinating world of railways, offers an authentic journey through time with its collection of genuine railway relics. Whether you're a railway enthusiast or simply looking for a fun and educational family outing, this place is highly recommended. The museum's exhibits are not only informative but also beautifully curated, providing a rich historical perspective on the development of railways. Also you must visit the activity in 6D of driving a train. It's a great opportunity to explore vintage locomotives, carriages, and even step inside some of them. The interactive displays and engaging activities make it an ideal destination for children, ensuring they'll have a blast while learning about the history of the railway. Overall, the Utrecht Railway Museum is a must-visit attraction that promises a memorable experience for all ages.

Me and my friend visited this museum and we really enjoyed it. All the history of Netherlands train can be seen here. There was a show as well which was in Dutch but very funny and really nice experience. I recommend you to visit it and don’t miss it.

Great museum for kids, they absolutely love it. Has a couple of nice attractions as well: virtual reality train driving, a small ride, elevator that brings you to ancient times. The only thing that was disappointing was the actor in the Theatre who clearly did not like kids which he expressed for about three times.
