Great museum! The guided tour gives an extra dimension to this museum and shows the music of the different clocks and street organs, combined with the explanation of the guide this is an extremely interesting ~45 minutes. The guided tour brings you only to one-third of the museum, the other parts you can visit yourself. There are also interactive automated music machines in the museum that you can power yourself, as well as many explanations for the different clocks and street organs. The museum accepts the museumcard. Also, there seems to be some activities for kids in the museum.

What an incredible and interesting museum! The tour was great because it gave us a chance to listen to some of the instruments and get a better understanding of the history behind them. However there is so much more to see all around, so take your time to explore. Our kids loved it too! Once you finish you can stop at the cafe (they are very friendly) in the museum and listen to some of the instruments there as well!

incredible array of interesting and varied instruments with neat history behind them. tour required, you gotta *hear* these things. bohemian rhapsody on an early 20th century fairground organ is the most incredible experience (go on the last tour of the day for that)

A beautiful museum. I wanted to go for sometime and one days while walking around i entered in with my museum card. I was mesmerised to the big musical instruments and history of place. There are quite some old kloks as well. Some activities for children of how to create instruments are there. There is a guided tour of museum ever 30 to 60min. In this trip a guide comes. They tell the story in dutch and engels and play all big iconic instruments. It has canteen as well. Good 1.5hr activity in center of Uthrecht.

The Museum Speelklok in Utrecht offers a truly unique and fascinating experience that combines music, engineering, automation, and human craftsmanship. The museum features an impressive collection of self-playing musical instruments, including clocks, organs, and other mechanical instruments that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Upon arriving at the museum, I was immediately struck by the intricate details and craftsmanship that went into creating these incredible instruments. The museum's collection includes some of the most beautiful and complex mechanical instruments I have ever seen, with intricate carvings, ornate details, and intriguing mechanisms that are sure to captivate visitors of all ages. To truly appreciate the museum's collection and fully understand the history and significance of these instruments, I highly recommend taking a guided tour. The tour guides are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate about the museum's collection, and they provide a wealth of information about the history of the instruments, their creators, and the context in which they were created. One of the things that surprised me the most was the variety of instruments and music pieces that the museum has to offer. The guided tour takes visitors through various periods and styles of music, showcasing a wide range of instruments and musical styles. From classical music to folk tunes, the museum's collection has something for everyone. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the different tour guides have their own preferences when it comes to instruments and music pieces. This means that even if you take multiple tours, you're likely to hear different instruments and music pieces each time, providing a unique experience every time you visit. Overall, the Museum Speelklok in Utrecht is a must-visit attraction for anyone interested in music, history, engineering, or automation. The guided tours are engaging, informative, and entertaining, and the museum's collection is truly one-of-a-kind. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this museum is a great place to spend an afternoon exploring and learning about a fascinating period in history.

This museum of automated musical devices was a real delight to visit and the (free) guided tour really brought the exhibits to life. Located within a lovely old church, it's a real jewel in the crown of Utrecht and deserves more attention & love from tourists and locals alike.

Excellent displays and layout, our tour guide was happy to give the tour in English as well as Dutch since he had Dutch patrons as well. He spoke excellent English and explained the displays in an interesting way, and was happy to answer questions. Great variety of displays and all are fascinating in their own way. Great place for English speaking tourists as all the placards and descriptions are in Dutch and English, and there are English audio tour cards. For anyone interested in music, history, and old machinery, a neat destination.

A lovely museum set in a delightful building. There is a great presentation of a wide range of automated toys from history but the fairground music machines are stunning and the guided talk is very informative. To hear the machines play is incredible.

This museum visit was an unforgettable experience. You can admire self-playing mechanical instruments from several centuries and also get many samples of songs and sounds as part of a guided tour, which I highly recommend and which is offered every hour in Dutch and English. Anyone who is in Utrecht should definitely take time for this very, very special museum.

Take the guided tour with your ticket! My experiences with museums have always been boring, but the tour guides do an amazing job of keeping it interesting by playing the music boxes in person. The guided tours are in English as well as Dutch! I highly reccomend visiting, if not for the history but the great tunes that are played on these fascinating devices.

Very fun museum! As others mentioned, be sure to take the guided tour (maybe even twice!) to hear a selection of the delicate museum pieces played live - these are musical devices after all! Staff was very polite and the tour was given in multiple languages. Would definitely go again!

Good museum for children as well adults if you have a fascination for old music boxes and those big music vehicles seen in town fairs in the good old days. The staff are very friendly and speak English and throughout the day there are multiple guided tours where the guides speak in both English and Dutch. Children can have a first hand at creating music too.

I saw these exhibits for the first time in 1989. I have visited many museums around the world, but I have not seen such a combination of wonder and fun in any of them. That is why I have not been to any other so many times as to this one. Six times and I'll be back again. With our grandson, soon.

They did a good job of soundproofing. The doors are heavy, rooms are well insulated, and several of the open spaces are enclosed in clear walls to trap sound. They really outdid themselves. You can enjoy each room without hearing another. The sink in the wc is interesting as well; you must turn it at the nozzle. And yes, the tour and music displays are cool.

My favorite museum in Utrecht. Being among with all the music box organ and clocks, when they all make sounds together, it’s exclusive experience. Make sure you go before 3.30 so you won’t miss the tour!

Fun, unusual experience. Have never seen anything like this in the US. Highly recommend taking a guided tour; really puts the devices in context and brings them to life. The rest of our visit was much more interesting as a result. Don't forget to get a key card at the front desk.

This museum is really interesting, it's cool to hear about all of the different clocks and how they used to be a show of wealth. I really recommend doing one of the guided tours, so that you get to hear the songs played by the machines. I recommend this to anyone to visit, it was a good way to spend a couple of hours. The history of the building is very interesting as well.

Wonderful experience! The free guided tour explained and demonstrated a number of self playing musical instruments, its history and working. The display of several well-described self playing instruments were really informative, and makes one appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering skills of those times.

The Museum Speelklok located in the city centre is definitely worth a visit! I would recommend taking a free guided tour that is offered at half past every hour (these are in Dutch as well as English) - the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave us some interesting background information on the self playing musical instruments and played them, which would otherwise not be possible to see. The tour itself does not cover the entire museum, so you will have plenty to explore on your own afterwards as well. I would recommend planning around 2 1/2 hours for the visit. 🎼

It is a really enjoyable time to spend in speelklok listening to the organ concert for half an hour and visit the whole museum. It is a quite zak one but with well-preserved musical instruments. But the most attractive settings to me are the organ figures with illustrations and explanations. (also English-version leaflet)You can slowly walk around and enjoy the small spot.

Museum of old musical times and automata. The tour starts at half time each time (10.30, 11.30...) First, mm learned the history of musical clocks of the 17th century, which were a symbol of wealth. Next - mechanical toys. Then we moved to the hall where street jukeboxes were presented, get ready to dance, because the melodies are loud and fiery. Then there were orchestral and dance machines of the beginning of the 20th century by the companies Weber, Mortiera It is fashionable to try to make paper with melodies yourself

What I love about this museum, in addition to its exhibitions, is the location which is in the center of Utrecht. Too bad not so many display can be played due to corona. But why did it matter? Because the displays/exhibitions mostly are the goods that produce sound. If they cannot be played then we can only stare at them without knowing how their sounds are

Now THIS is one of the BEST museums I have ever visited! Certainly the best museum in Utrecht, NL. With a vast, exceptionally well-curated collection of all types of musical instruments, mementos, toys and ephemera, the Speelklok Museum has something interesting for visitors of all ages. Located in the heart of Utrecht's City Centre, this museum is a must-do for any visitor to this quaint-but-bustling city within 45 minutes of Amsterdam. Well-worth the side trip.

Hidden gem! Absolutely loved the experience. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and engaging. Quite a treat to see these self-playing instruments in action. The layout and attention to detail of the museum took us back to the turn of the century. Worth waiting for the tour to see the instruments in action.

Went here with my GF she really loves music boxes and stuff. I found the museum quite decent, i enjoyed the musical tour with the guide the most of our visit. Only some items on the upper floor where hard to see cause of how they where placed. And sadly the souvenir shop is very focused on kids, we wanted to buy a nice music box for at home but sadly almost all where toy's with very short versions.

One of the best museums I've been to. Don't let the child-friendly approach fool you - there's plenty here for adults. Costs P + R ridiculously low. What a nice museum this is. Walked in the tour and then each done their own quest with both children. Music and movement everywhere. Nice temporary exhibition old wooden organ sculptures and small but nice the exhibition modern unpainted wooden sculptures by Peter Demetz. Fun things are organized as an extra. (Original) Een aardig museum of even doorheen te gaan met de kinderen. De speurtochten waren leuk opgezet, qua niveau uitdagend. Must join a tour here! The tour guide would play the instruments while guiding the group through the history of carillons. Quite a few instruments demonstrated in the museum were really impressive. One of them hade three violins in it, which would play beautiful music when started. Make sure to follow the guide to the back of the instruments in order to see the actual mechanism of their music.

Museum Speelklok is a very vibrant and fun museum for both kids and adults! It is located a the very heart of beautiful Utrecht, so  while enjoying the lively center you can enjoy the historic pieces of automatic music boxes which do not sound like automated at all! You can find very tiny music boxes as well as huge ones that need their own special rooms! I suggest you attend the tour while there, so that you can hear most of them and learn about their mechanism. Also, you can find a do-it-yourself room upstairs, where you can make your own music box. Great for families!

The tour was very educational and fun! Very nice explanation from the tour guide and it is always fun in the museum! My grandfather and I again really enjoyed it here at Museum Speelklok and I will definitely come back here! Thanks to everyone again for a very successful afternoon in this museum and see you soon!

(Translated by Google) Surprising museum. However, I am not a fan of barrel organs, but there is plenty to see about playing clocks and their origins. Then it was a clock for the well-to-do bourgeoisie. Fortunately, everyone can now play music. (Original) Verrassend museum. Ik ben echter geen liefhebber van draaiorgels maar er is genoeg te zien over speelklokken en het ontstaan er van. Toen was een speelklok voor de gegoede burgerij. Gelukkig kan iedereen nu muziek afspelen.

Really quriky and a great museum to take kids, even the little ones. Free tours every hour and a great tour guide who speaks both English and Dutch. It's also near the train station so very fun stop for you and the kids!

Wonderful museum with various old barrel organs. You can walk around freely, but its better to take the free guided tour. During the tour they play various organs. Young kids will usually also get a kick out of this.

(Translated by Google) The timepieces / clocks are beautiful. A tour is almost required otherwise you will not hear what you see. Kids thought it was worthwhile, especially that they could make and play a punch card. (Original) De uurwerken/klokkespelen zijn prachtig. Een rondleiding is haast wel vereist anders hoor je niet wat je ziet. Kids vonden het de moeite waard, met name dat ze een ponskaart konden maken en afspelen.

👍👍 What an amazing venue! We came to watch My Morning Jacket from the UK after watching them in Manchester, a few days earlier. While I do love a bit of the O2 Ritz Manchester, this venue blew it away completely... Great smoking area too! Cheap bar prices and the sound was incredible in the Grote Zaal...

👍👍 Such a unique place. Very beautiful and cozy. You can see how old the place is. I think it was an old church before , you can notice the statues. The staff are so nice. They speak English and Dutch. The drinks are good. The atmosphere is nice. It’s nearby the central station. And the mall. Highly re...

Garden center
😠 Pretty good garden centre, quite a large availability and friendly personel, unfortunately there is a animal cruelty corner with 3 flamingos that live in a unsustainable environment. I would return if I would not have to watch the animal cruelty during my shopping.
