There is an association that preserves old trams by running them on Sundays, on an old disused line to Amstelveen, and on the normal tram line through the center of Amsterdam. The trams are operated by volunteer drivers and conductors wearing the uniforms of yesteryear, and you pay the fare inside the tram, just as it was in the past. The line to Amstelveen, which we took, leaves every half hour, between 11 am and 5 pm, from Haarlemmermeerstation. To get there, take conventional tram line 2, get off at Amstelveenseweg station and take the street with this name towards the square with the trees. The round trip costs €7.50 – the passenger can get off at any intermediate station or at the final stop, take a ride, and then catch the next tram, a different model. The route passes through a pleasant wooded area (Het Amsterdamse Bos = The Amsterdam Forest), houses on the edge of a stream with crystal clear waters, all well maintained like in toy towns. Due to construction, the tram is not reaching the center of Amstelveen, stopping in a residential neighborhood, where we saw an old restored mill operating as a restaurant, a park, flowers on lampposts and Hollywood movie mansions without bars on the windows or high walls blocking them. the view of anyone passing by on the street.

Visited on sunday as we want to do enjoythe tram ride. It starts from 11am till 5pm and runs every 30 mins till Amstelveen. You'll love the old interior and the ride with a conductor on board which gives you punched paper tickets. Driver is really friendly and tells you everything about the tram. I really enjoyed asking I’m a load of questions about how it is run. They are very old and rather rough but that is really the charm. Reasonably priced absolutely worth it! Afterwards we ordered coffee and a snack and wondered through the small bookstore and loved all the ild postcards etc. Not the fanciest museum but it is very nice and worth the time of visit

Sweet and lovely place where old trams are cherished. On Sundays you can buy a ticket and ride on these beautifully restored from the Museum to Amstelveen and back. Really great and peaceful location in the old monumental station.

we went on sunday to enjoy the historic tram ride. It starts from 11am till 5pm and runs every 30 mins till Amstelveen. You'll love the old interior and the ride with a conductor on board which gives you punched paper tickets. Driver is really friendly and tells you everything about the tram. It was a 107 yrs old tram gifted by prague to Amsterdam. It is 5€ for one way and 7€ for return.

We love our Sunday visits here and cannot understand why more people don't enjoy the experience. The establishment is operated totally by knowledge and friendly volunteers. The trams run every Sunday during the summer months and you never know which trams are operating until you arrive. The full journey lasts over an hour but you can also disembark at a small number of stops to enjoy a walk and the views then get on another tram. The station has a simple and inexpensive cafe, a shop selling tram memorabilia and there is a spotless toilet. For us it is 'a must' to visit for young and not so young alike!

A fun experience with lots of historic trams. Trams leave every 30 minutes, for a one hour round trip.

Totally awesome if you love old trams. My toddler was not into it (though he is a train fanatic) so maybe older kids (10 y.o was ecsatic)

The museum itself is housed in the terminus of the route and mainly consists of the station itself and a few displays. Beautiful but not well lit. Has a Cafe on site and a small gift shop.

Stunning collection of beautifully renovated (mostly) Dutch trams. The volunteers are very motivated and knowledgeable and the Sunday tram rides take you to Amstelveen + the Amsterdamse Bos which are great to visit. Also worth mentioning is the incredible collection of (sometimes vintage) train and tram-related books and magazines that are on sale.

The area behind the museum is great for monitored exploration with one or two kids. For the adult it'll feel really small and secluded, the kid will experience a secret world of the forgotten kind..

If you're into historic trams, this is a great experience. The people who operate them are all volunteers and clearly love what they do.

Nice. We went with our kids, had lunch in Amstelveen and took the tram back. Friendly staff, very professional and knowledgeable. At 5,50 euro return fare a really budget friendly activity.
