This is such a cool museum that introduces us to the most famous drinks of Netherland: Bols Genever. It tells you the history, the process of its making in a fun and interactive way. You can taste, smell and see the color and vibrancy of this museum the minute you walk in. And of course, Best of all, you get to drink. This is probably the most innovative way to market and sell alcohol we've ever seen.

One of the best places I went in Amsterdam by far! I was able to discover the fascinating drink called Genever, a predecessor to the British gin, and to be honest better and smoother than it. Me and my husband went to House Bols and we had booked the full experience, including the cocktail class and a visit to the Genever museum with audio guides, which gave us a free drink (plus the 2 we made during the class). The bartenders there are highly skilled, so that I just told the girl the types of things I liked and she invented a mixture to match my taste! Overall is a awesome place to go with a small group of friends or a partner so you can fully enjoy everything that the house has to offer.

While this wasn't a crazy long self guided tour, the bar area is pretty cool and genever twists of classic Cocktails were pretty delicious. I did the 2pm cocktail making workshop because the van gogh museum tickets were sold out, and I really loved just drinking a few Cocktails and making some of my own. I bought the tickets when the place opened at 1pm.

This was a great experience. It was a self-guided tour of the history of Bols & we got the cocktail making experience included ("House of Bols experience and cocktail workshop" ticket). I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is interested in cocktails. Bensu, the cocktail workshop teacher, was great.... She was very patient & would repeat anything that she said if you didn't hear it; the experience overall was great.

Very pretty museum. Just a little on the small side. There could have been so much more to this if they would have gone a bit deeper into certain topics. For the museum alone, it is not worth the price of €15.50 The only thing that justifies this price for me is the fact that you have 1 cocktail included into your entry ticket. Overall not a bad museum and a fun experience.

Interesting museum about the history of Bols genever and its liquors! Museum is well designed around all human sensory systems, and gives a great experience (just like you would expect from a good cocktail!). I would highly recommend picking the premium ticket, as the value of the gift you receive is already the same as the extra cost.

I almost didn’t go because I’m not much of an alcohol enthusiast, but the Go City Pass almost urged me to (and I’d also recommend getting your tickets through Get Your Guide, as you get a free cocktail included in the ticket). I regret nothing. The experience appealed to all senses, as upon entering, I received a vial with a mystery-flavour shot to be drunk later during the tour. Overall, a wonderful tour through the history of gin making. It even had a smelling room for many types of gin! At the end, I had a wonderful cocktail. I left much more the wiser about the history of alcohol, and got an appreciation for the technical process, and the historical and social context behind this craft.

Really good value for a cocktail experience! The self guided tour is interesting from a mixology point of view - definitely a really good learning experience for someone that is not familiar to how alcoholic drinks and liquors get their different aromas! The tour is done pretty well, with lots of historical context. Honestly, I never hears about this brand of liquor before visiting this place, but it was a pleasant learning experience! After the tour, you can continue staying in their bar place and hang out with friends over some drinks. The drinks here are really affordable and they have a pretty large variety of cocktails you can try. Definitely a really good value!

This was one of my favorite things I've done here. For a reasonable price, you get the experience and knowledge from a self-lead tour, and then you get a cocktail at the end as well. It's a no-brainer. The visuals were really cool, and there is a hallway with different scents lined up, you can smell it, then try to guess what it is. We had a blast doing that. They have some ingredients labeled as well that you can smell and feel. The bartenders were super friendly at the end and recommended some really good drinks that we loved. I even bought another one to try because I really like a good Old Fashioned. They made me one with Genever, which isn't readily available in the USA, and it was amazing. If you like drinking cocktails, there is 0% chance that you won't like this place.

Such a amazing cocktail experience! We did this for my birthday and had so much fun - we made 2 cocktails with the guidance of our bartender. Learned some tricks to make cocktails and generally had a good time as it was a small group. It was 30 euros for the 2 cocktails we made and with that we also received a free cocktail to order and a free tour of the Bols museum which was so much fun. The staff were incredibly friendly helpful and generally had a good attitude ☺️ Would highly recommend going! *I will go again with any friends visiting as this experience had such a cool vibe.

An EXCELLENT tour experience that offers education on the local spirit of Amsterdam, how it was created, how distilling works, and even a test of tastes! All of this complete with an included drink with your tour. The cocktails were good, and the bartenders certainly know how to find a drink for you!

I enjoyed this very much! We did the experience and the cocktail workshop and it was all very fun. Good value for money, 3 cocktails were included. The gift shop is also worth checking out. I’m usually not a gift shop person, but I did buy some things here. I went on a Saturday and had to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance or it would be full, so keep that in mind. Definitely recommend for cocktail lovers!

A challenge of your olfactory senses makes for a lot of fun especially if you are in a group. The ahh's and oh gross comments are hilarious. Quote a bit of history in this place too. If you select the experience package you get a free cocktail and get to make your own. Our mixologist was truly very passionate and took great care in teaching us some hints and tricks. It's definitely worth a visit.

A great experience and overall a great way to learn about some of the history of spirits and Amsterdam history. It's interactive and fun if you drink or not, however if you do drink a cocktail is included in your ticket, however it seems they would make you a mocktail or N/A as well. Staff was nice, location is great and the timing is good as it takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to get through the whole museum.

It was a very nice experience visiting House of Bols. I got the Friday evening ticket which was cheaper and it was well worth the money. You get a shot in a small bottle that you have to drink at a specific time. It’s quite interesting. It was also interesting to find out about Genever and Bols itself, I didn’t know anything about them. You also get a free drink at the end - which was very good. I also appreciated that the barman allowed me to taste the 2 Genever types that Bols has. All in all, well worth it after a very long, tiring day of walking through the city! I definitely recommend you get a ticket for this experience and I would recommend you book a slot in the evening 😁

Such a great experience, and I only did the tour. Very informative and the staff really helped me learn and experience Genever. I’d love to go back and do the cocktail making class!

Very fun experience!! The museum was very insightful and it was good to do it at my own pace. It wasn’t very packed when we went. The bar at the end was a very cute vibe and the drinks were delicious! They had options for every palette. I only wish we could have gotten in to do the cocktail making experience! We were the first group to do the new bar walk option and it was a good add on that included two additional drinks at Amsterdam bars. The only downside was that the two bars were pretty far away from the museum and each other..definitely not a bar “walk”.

Interesting self guided tour. We enjoyed learning the story of Bols at our own pace. Exploring the scents was fun, and a nice cocktail of choice is provided at the end.

The evening experience was great! The tour was not busy, and the cocktail included made for a good deal. Almost 1/2 price for the later events.

I absolutely loved this experience. We did the cocktail masterclass where we made 2 (strong) cocktails and then you get one made for you. Amazing cocktails and the walk round tour were so good and interactive. With information,a senses booth, scent guessing, and loads more. You receive a device that talks to you on the way through, which was great, so no reading just get to take everything in. Would 100% recommend!

Nice audio tour, but it's very narrow and it was very crowded when I went in. The vibrating cabin where you have your shot of jenever was a cool experience. Love that they made a lot of displays interactive (smells, visual, flaps, lights) The cocktail display to choose your free cocktail didn't work, there were two mixologists working behind the bar. One of them gave the whole queue a bit of a show, the other one was a tad bit unfriendly. The other staff were nice and warm. Nice, well-priced giftshop as well. Bought my tickets online.

If you can only do one, do this instead of the Heineken Factory! The price includes a self-guided tour of the history of the Bols distillery and Lucas Bols, exhibits on the process by which they create their spirits and liqueurs, and a cocktail at the end of the tour. The experience is very colourful and atmospheric, and gives you a feeling of deliberate beauty and aesthetic appreciation for the drinks themselves, as well as an appreciation for the creation process. The cocktail makers at the end (that make your included drink for you) are incredibly friendly and attentive, and humoured my questions about their work and the drinks they make. A must do if you’re in the area. Conveniently right by the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.

Absolutely loved this. Paid extra for the cocktail making experience and we'll worth it. You are taught to make 2 cocktails by a lovely member of staff, which you get to drink and then explore the museum at your leisure where you learn the history of Bols in the cocktail market. Then you get another free cocktail at the end.

Very nice experience. We did the tour and the cocktails workshop. They have an option for non alcoholic too with limited flavor but still gives you the experience. We did 3 cocktails with the guidance of our bartender instructor. We also had a free drink. Non-alcoholic options are available but limited, could be more.

What an experience well worth visiting and learning the history. Such a fun tour smelling all the components of the cocktails. The peach cheesecake cocktail was delicious. The man on the front desk yesterday was great.. lovley energy. Would definitely reccomend

We did the cocktail workshop + tour at House of Bols. Overall we had a great experience! Learned a little bit about the history of Bols Genever, got one cocktail after the tour, and then made two more cocktails while learning how to make them at the workshop. I would personally recommend doing the workshop, although the tour was interesting I don’t think it would have been worth it on its own. I particularly enjoyed the workshop because we got to choose a different flavored liqueur for each of the two cocktails we mixed! The staff was also very friendly. Recommend this experience!

Being able to use all your senses to experience the distillery process is always fun. Bols has a unique surprise for using sound, vision, and taste all together to experience a cocktail. Make sure to take the cocktail course for lasting memories.

I went there with a big group and we did a cocktail workshop. The museum is quite small, but they provided audio guide and it was easy to use to listen to the stories behind the displays. It was fun to try a shot in a booth and have the reaction recorded and it was interactive to be able to smell different flavors of the liquors. The cocktail workshop was really really fun. We learned how to make 2 cocktails and after that we got to choose a cocktail we like from the bar. I would recommend the Cocktail workshop for groups!

Chose it on an off chance and did not regret it. Super fun experience of the museum and cocktail class. Definitely worth it!!

  • 4/5 Divya C. 2 years ago on Google
So the museum itself you can finish in like 15 mins. However, I really recommend doing the cocktail workshop. We got to understand how all the tools worked and enjoyed a few cocktails at their bar. They teach you simple tricks to make delicious cocktails and you can choose your flavours.

The tour was fun, especially when we got to smell the different types of scents distilled. I didn't enjoy my drink, so I ordered a second drink. I ordered an old fashioned, and it was so sweet I couldn't drink it. It didn't have any of the qualities of an old fashioned. I have had several types of Bols, and they are delicious!!!! I think that the bartender was a bit off today.

  • 5/5 Pete P. 2 years ago on Google
We absolutely love this place. A tribute to Lucas Bols who brought spices from Indonesia in 1501 and created the flavored alcohol known as Genever in the Netherlands ( but doesn't taste like gin, much better) comparable to Gin. A tour of the place will give you a history of the distillery including his handwritten recipe book and equipment he used. Then you end up in a modern cocktail bar where you savor hundreds of cocktails using genever. There is also a cocktail making class. We come here every time in Amsterdam and never get tired of savoring true genever! We like it straight like it is served traditionally.

  • 5/5 Ramon B. 2 years ago on Google
We booked the mixology course and were highly satisfied with the experience! The bartender was humorous, extremely motivated and amiable! They are really generous, for the price we paid we received two free professionally prepared drinks and a tour around the museum! We'll be looking forward to return :)

Great experience. Tour isn’t long either which is great (keeps you interested with activities!) 🥂 Incredible cocktails too😍Thank you so much to all the staff! 🍾🍾 Genevieve and Darren

  • 5/5 Neil S. 2 years ago on Google
For 16€/person you get a self guided audio tour about a 500 year old genever distillery that takes about 30-45min, a little shot thing during the tour, and a badass mix drink made by a great bartender in a trippy mirrored bar which is a pretty darn good deal all things considered. A great way to end, or start, your day in Amsterdam.

  • 5/5 Kriszta F. 2 years ago on Google
The cocktails are great, the museum is small, but interesting, all in all it is worth the 16 euro entry, you can chose your cocktail at the end, the barman was friendly and professional! Only regret that we couldn't have more cocktails 🤪

  • 5/5 Josie G. 1 year ago on Google
Such a nice experience!! I highly recommend the Cocktail making workshop, the staff was super friendly and the barkeeper explained everything in such a fantastic way! The tour itself was interesting and amazing too. Especially the "smell-room" with over 30 bols bottles, you have to guess the taste there! Super fun way to explain the history of Lucas Bols!
