Always wanted to visit here but somehow never made it till today ! Such a pleasent experience. The museum was not crowded , and hence it was nice to take time and look around. The museum is a mix of art, science and history and is really nice to read through the information available about the pieces on display. We saw this on open Monument Day and definitely liked it. My kids enjoyed the science bit , watching the fossils was being part of history. Definite must visit once 👍

Perhaps, this is one of the first natural history museum in the world. It has amazing collection of fossils and minerals. As former scientist I was thrilled to see the early version of the instruments that were used for discovery and researches in optics, electrical engineering and later electro magnetic theory. The 18 the century drones are really cool. The art collection is sweet with pictures of Dutch artists full of light and life. It would be great if the museum will find a way to display originals by Michelangelo instead of reproductions. Similar sketches are displayed in the other museums.

This museum has everything... I mean, not like the British Museum has everything, but more like breadth of experience/mode? It's like Indiana Jones turned science happy and kept it all in his home, which you get to visit.

Teylers is a wonderful museum to visit even if you’re on only a short visit to the area. Easy to reach from Amsterdam if you’re staying there, and located near plenty of lovely places to see before and after. Delightful collection of scientific history and beautiful examples of the Dutch painting arts. The house itself is its own exhibit, and worth taking your time with. Staff is friendly and there are free lockers (though in demand!).

Lovely building on the canal, with lockers for your bags. It's a small museum so quite comfortable to see everything. Museumkaarts accepted. Quite an eclectic combination of art, fossils, rocks and ancient instruments (like measuring instruments), and Tyler's house. The oldest museum in the Netherlands and wonderful to think that benefactor, Tyler, lived right there, and had no heirs so he created this.

Loved it! I think this is a very unique museum. I found the museum very interesting because they offered a lot of intriguing display pieces. These pieces are part of a collection that for the most part has been there for a really long time.( ~200-300 years). The diverse collections of the museum are really interesting. Fossils, minerals, antique technical- electronic instruments but also paintings, sketches and coins. To top it off, the museum building itself is (almost) no different than the time it was build.

I was here in 2008 and enjoyed my visit very much. The collection cannot be compared with prestigeous foreign collections, but the exceptional setting with its authentic feel of historical significance is more than just a compensation. It is a pity I cannot publish more pictures, but most got lost. Highly recommended museum!

We visited this museum on a sunny Saturday in March and it wasn't busy at all. There are a lot of different things to see, dinosaur bones, fossils, stones, paintings and also scientific instruments. What is also very beautiful about the museum is the architecture of the museum itself. We also enjoyed visiting the Teyler house, and reading about Pieter Teyler.

Super cool museum, I loved that you could look at old masters sketches and handle them yourself! Theres something special about holding artwork in your hand instead of looking at it on a wall.

Amazing collection of different artifacts - from old bones and fossil to art objects and mechanisms. Highly recommended to visit especially who interested in history and anatomy - you can check different morphs of skulls from different ages and look how lifestyle determine the anatomy. Also interesting section with old mechanisms and devices - how story of big openings begins and what helped in it - from strange prototypes to microscopes and other labs equipments Audio guide is optional

One of the best highlight of my trip, I firmly suggest you to visit this museum! This is the oldest museum in Netherlands, that have marvelous architecture, it was founded in the late 18th century by Pieter Teyler van der Hulst, a wealthy Dutch businessman and philanthropist who was passionate about science and the arts; In the west wing side is The Pieter Teyler House, Teyler's former home, which is a beautiful neoclassical building that has been preserved in its original state; The museum have mix collection of science, history and art; you should borrow guided audio device in the front office to get the whole story of the collection, one of the most unique aspects of the Teylers Museum is its collection of scientific instruments and apparatus from the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum has a large collection of electrostatic generators, which were used for scientific experiments, as well as a range of other scientific instruments such as telescopes, microscopes, and early X-ray machines; The museum also has a rich collection of art, including works by Michelangelo, Rembrandt, and Raphael. In addition, there is a beautiful oval room, known as the Oval Room, which was designed specifically for displaying Teyler's collection of drawings and prints. You able to put your coat and bag safely in locker that have combination lock in room that behind front desk, so able to explore the museum freely. I admire their toilet, it was clean and artistic; there’s Museum shop that you able find merchandise, books, pictures, postcards, posters, souvenirs. Overall, the Teylers Museum is a unique and fascinating museum that combines art and science in a beautiful and historic setting. It offers visitors the opportunity to explore the work of one of the Netherlands' most influential patrons of science and the arts, and to see some truly remarkable artifacts and artworks.

An amazing collection of fossils, scientific instrumentation, art, and a look through his attached residence. Most information is on Dutch but a limited English listening device is very helpful. The staff were friendly and helpful. On the I Amsterdam City card for admission.

It has a collection of fossils, antique science equipment, beautiful paintings, a good introduction video, fantastic old library, contemporary art and a cafe. The staff are friendly and helpful. (Translated by Google) Beautiful exhibition Constable, but the admission in the somewhat small hall is not correct. Too many people and even a group of 5 can enter at the same time. Would you like to change the time slot? Wasn't really a Covid proof visit. Other rooms offer enough space and apparently not so popular because fewer visitors. (Original) Prachtige tentoonstelling Constable maaaaar de toelating in de toch al wat kleine zaal klopt niet. Teveel mensen en zelfs een groep van 5 mag tegelijk naar binnen. Tijdslot maar aanpassen? Great place to visit. This museum is more about the history of museums and science itself. A visit is more like a travel back in time to how the concept of scientific research and several nowadays established fields of research got started in the first place. This museum is one of or even the oldest scientific museums in Europe and it was kept like it was. So don't expect a modern pedagogical concept. This is not a place for kids to experience science. However there is a nice audio guide included in the ticket price. Don't miss it. It gives you context for some of the most relevant pieces in the exhibition within the frame of a funny, made up dialog all around an actual real visit of Napoleon to the museum. I was very much surprised how much I liked the place. If you are into science and it's history this place is just perfect.

This is a beautiful museum! There is lots to see and it’s very interesting. It’s wheelchair accessible but sadly you can’t go everywhere in the museum. The displays are a bit to high for someone sitting in a wheelchair and you really have to stretch yourself to see lots of things. But overall it’s a great museum!

Slightly old fashioned as a museum but that's part of its charm. Masses to see and the Surreal Sculpture contemporary exhibition was fantastic. Thoroughly recommended. Good appel taart too! Some exhibits are labelled in English - not all though. It's a fantastic mix of art, fossils, palaeontology, scientific instruments, geology, dolls house, etc. There's something for everyone.

This museum is wonderful. It is such a fun, informative and well balanced mix of history, architecture, science, natural history, art and without taking 8 hours to get through all of it. The audio guides are great, and the information plaques are also really well written. The cafe was great and had cool iPads to order from and a robot server. A definite gem. We made the trip to Haarlem from Amsterdam just to go here and it was well worth it.

Extremely expensive for what if offers. Many areas of the building are either not accessible or accessible "on reservation" or "invitation" only. There are very few explanations in English which makes it difficult to really appreciate the place. A disappointing experience.

Born and raised in Haarlem and I’ve never been here before. Always heard stories of how fantastic it was. At 52 it was time to go. Maybe it was because of the Covid-19 restrictions but it seems that everything I was told about was packed together (the technical stuff) in a few rooms and made place for paintings. As I said I’ve never been here before so no comparison to how it used to be except for stories I was told.

Good museum. The collection of fossils is impressive but there was very little information available in English other than an 'audio tour' (consisting of a media player you punch a exhibit number into and listen to the recorded message) which was a shame.

The building itself is a beauty, but my favorite is the extensive collection of well labeled and described scientific equipment. This puts this museum in my worldwide top 10.

I had a great time visiting Teylers Museum. I absolutely loved the science instruments section.

This is the oldest museum in The Netherlands which never closed the doors since opening. The collection starts with rocks and bones than continued with experimentation instruments and machines. Gorgeous Oval room and library. Than you can discover gorgeous houses with rich interiors. And it’s still not all. There are 2 art galleries. This is the only museum in The Netherlands which owns Michelangelo’s 26 paintings. Highly recommended

A lovely museum to wander in when in Haarlem with a mix of art, science and history - felt like a place with something for everyone as long as they are curious. Also gives you access to Teylers house, which is quite interesting as well. We found it quite busy due to a temporary exhibition that was pretty popular, so good to check in advance.

Visiting the Tylers Museum in Harleem is worth the short trip from Amsterdam. We saw a special exhibit about David Hockney. Besides a special exhibition space for Hockney’s Eye, there were digital works among the other spaces in the museum. A recent renovation of the Tylers home is worth seeing, including the miniature version.

We had a guided tour of the library. Very knowledgeable and entertaining guide. We got to see some stunning books and heard interesting stories around them. Highly recommended! You can book the tour through the website, mainly for small groups. You will still also need to pay for access to the museum itself.

A modest museum with three parts - the fossil/equipment collection, Pieter Teyler’s home and two art galleries. The highlight of this museum for me is the cafe which has a lovely garden, perfect for coffee and cakes with a calming view.

Beautiful building. Very interesting exhibitions about fossils and scientific instruments. My personal favorite was the paintings room, there they even have sketches from Michelangelo and Rembrandt. In the table on the center you will see this huge red books that contain them. It's a small museum though, so expect to be done in less than 2 hours. I really enjoyed it! Would have loved to see more paintings 😁

Not an ordinary museum. The collection is curated with a great care. I personally like the interiors and the collection of minerals the most. Thanks to the team for taking such a great care.

Truly amazing museum! The collection is beautiful and wonderfully displayed. The building itself is stunning as well. I loved the fact that the collection is so diverse. Definitely one of my top 5 museum experiences. Can't recommend it enough!

Beautiful collection of paintings, research equipment, crystals and more! They have a huge variety of items ranging from 370 million years old fossils to modern art collections. Great for those who are interested in one or more of these topics. I also noticed that there were activities for kids so an inclusive space for families. Entry was quick as there was no line, we could enter immediately.

I loved this museum! It combines an old school scientific collection with more modern acquisitions as well as a historic house. For the collections, each room has a theme e.g. fossils, art, coins etc (some have explanations in English too). You then follow the route toward the historic home section which has largely empty rooms but each looking at something specific through video or (and this was super magical!) a dolls house. I really enjoyed it, especially on a rainy day- there's also a restaurant and gift shop too!

Gaaf oud museum met verborgen schatten. Hidden pictures in large files or folders. Many coins and a lot of scientific tools gathered in some great expositions. Temporary displays of ancient atlases. Great displays of minerals can be seen before you visit the oldest museum of the Netherlands in its magnificent original colourful building. Go and do the audiotour!!!

Really great and extraordinary museum held in a vintage mansion. Most of the museum is quite interesting, especially the archaeological collections. The art and scientific equipment is also briefly displayed and amazing to look at. Despite being the oldest museum in the country, it has ironically got a very modern cafeteria with a robot serving your order.

👍👍 It was created in 1355 and is the only remaining city gate from the defenses of Haarlem. Until the 17th century it was the city gate used for traffic by land eastwards towards Spaarnwoude over the Laeghe weg (now Oude weg). In 1631 the Haarlemmertrekvaart was dug, which shortened the waterway from H...
