A beautiful castle with big lush beautiful gardens and ponds. The moment you enter insider it makes you go to the same era. Beautiful bed rooms, hall ways, galleries, the living area and powder rooms still feel alive. The main hall, roof and walls and magnificent. If you have museum card this is covered. You can enter easily. It is in calm and conent place. The cafe is large but full. The gardens and good to go for a picnic. Highly recommended for visit. The walk space and gardens are large to wear comfortable shoes. Enjoyed the overall experience.

Incredible castle near Utrecht and Gouda, we went by public transport and it was easy, only few minutes walking from the bus stop. The visit was around one or two hours. Every room has a guide person and also a text in different languages to explain about the room. The visit is worth, i was impressed with the history and how the castle is well maintained.

A wonderful place to visit with your family, so many incredible rooms with beautiful furniture, the park outside is also incredible, you can bring your own snacks or you can visit the cafe, you can't take your baby stroller inside, parking is available and you can take photos and videos inside. Well organized staff and you can read the history of every room on the spot on a huge beautiful pamphlet. I strongly recommend you to visit the castle.

A true awesome Castle in The Netherlands. Do visit the Garden and the Castle. But most important, it is good to read the history and heritage before you enter the Castle. This gives you a good image of the Castle and the building next to the Castle. This building is still in ownership of the family and they do visit it very often. The garden is beautiful and completed with several small items from the past. Enjoy this view and the environment via the two restaurants and cafe! Enjoy and I will for sure be back to enjoy this place.

I wouldn't consider myself one that finds historical places fascinating but this place is really cool. The beauty of the gardens are out of this world and just so peaceful to walk around and enjoy the nature. Just a pointer. Plan your day according to the bus times.

An absolute must see when visiting the central part of the Netherlands. It’s close to Amsterdam and Utrecht. Very large castle, so well maintained and preserved. Also very relaxing walks with lots of benches possible trough the parks and gardens around the castle. The inside of the castle is amazing, don’t forget to visit the gift shop there, and the restaurant is also very yummy (near the entry).

I had an great experience visiting Castle De Haar! 🏰✨ Despite the slightly higher costs, the grandeur and beauty of the castle and its surroundings made it well worth it. The sheer size of the castle was huge. Its magnificent architecture and meticulous attention to detail transported me to a bygone era. Exploring the lavishly decorated rooms and expansive gardens was like stepping into a fairytale. The picturesque surroundings added to the enchantment, creating a truly magical atmosphere. 🌳🌷🌞 While the ticket prices may be on the higher side, the exceptional quality and maintenance of the castle make it clear why. The staff's commitment to preserving the historical significance and beauty of Castle De Haar is evident in every corner. 📚🗺️ Well worth a visit if you are in Utrech or close by. It's a perfect destination for history enthusiasts, architecture lovers, and anyone seeking a unique and unforgettable adventure. If you're willing to indulge in a slightly higher-cost experience, I highly recommend exploring the grandeur and charm of Castle De Haar. You won't be disappointed! ✨🏰💫

Nice place to visit. It's easy to reach from the city centre (buses 28 and 111), and the self-tour inside the castle is well sinalised and oriented by friendly employees. The castle was built in the 1300s, but was actively inherited and used all these centuries, so there are a lot of history and details inside. Very well kept. The gardens/park are very beautiful and I believe that in summer it's even nicer, as picnic is allowed. Good to go with all the family.

It was one of the most beautiful castles I have seen. It is very well kept and the guides are friendly, helpful and very informative. The fact that the family comes back yearly to keep up the traditions is great. History is preserved very well. The gardens are well taken care of and it is so peaceful. We had a picnic in the garden. The shop is also well worth a visit as is the restaurant. Well worth a visit.

If you want to experience a fairy-tale like castle up close and personal, you need to visit Castle De Haar. While there's not a lot to see in Utrecht, this castle just outside the city more than makes up for it. You can get to the castle using public transportation (train and bus) and it takes about an hour. It's located about a 15 minute walk from where the bus drops you off in a secluded space surrounded by trees. The castle is huge and you can choose to tour the grounds and gardens or pay a little more to tour the interior of the castle as well. It's well worth a visit, especially if you're from the US or another country where castles aren't very common.

Such an amazing place, I recommended to visit and it’s a beautiful destination for the tourists. it has a small restaurant at Café. very well organized very clean the staff who work there so helpful and have a lot of information they can explain about this castle. it’s really very beautiful place and the park is such an amazing and beautiful place. Keep in consideration that you might need at least four hours there because you need a lot of walk

It's a gorgeous castle. If you had never visited it I recommend you to get there in the morning, in that way you will have enough time to see the inside of the castle and the gardens. In the castle they have cards in 5 languages with the explanation of what are you seeing, and also there are guides in some of the main rooms, all of them were really nice and open to answer my questions. In the gardens they have a lot of photo spots and the views are wonderful. They also have a deer farm, I don't know if is allowed to feed them but there was a lot a people feeding them with nuts that fall from trees (they didn't gave them anything else), I did it myself. It was a delightful experience, my whole visit was.

The largest castle in the Netherlands. Great architecture, amazing interiors, you would think there would be more to explore inside but it is still impressive. In every room there is information in many languages to read for this is a big plus. Outside is different very beautiful, wonderful gardens and lots of pleace for walks in the park with photo spots. Parking is also very large and convenient at a cost of 6 euros. The castle can be visited on a museum card. There is also a restaurant on the castle grounds.

An absolutely fantastic day out. We went in the middle of winter with cold and rain and it was still lovely. I can only imagine summer must be even better. We used our museum cards. Parking was great. I recommend booking online even with museum cards as then you can also prebook and pay for your parking (6 euros). We took a pram. We needed to leave it at the actual entrance to the castle but we managed to do a nice walk inside with our busy toddler. There were outside stalls for buying food at the back of the castle. A fancier restaurant near the entrance and also good public toilets. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful and big castle. It's a romantic place which features a very large garden, which is accompanied by a luxurious castle. It's an awesome place which is excellent for photography. You can also picnic in the garden. The garden also has some animals like deers and swans in it, so it's enjoyable for children too.

Beautiful grounds and castle. Well worth a visit! You can use your museum card to enter. The inside of the castle is beautiful and well maintained. Very informative with lots of hosts in the rooms to tell you more about about it.

A brilliant archutectural monument to ancestors, style, design and talent! We have visited the castle just around Christmas in a very rainy weather, even then the gardens look good, I can imagine how beautiful they are in spring/ summer and autumn. I will definitely return!

Easy to access by bus, the bus stop is outside the train station. The the bus stops outside the castle (both ways). Seen only the garden which is beautiful, I assume in Spring and Summer will be nicer. There are picnic tables as well.

Beautiful Castle just outside Utrecht with formal gardens. Self guided tours with a good inside of the family shop lots of rooms and giving a good representative of who lived there. Only thing is that it's not available for wheelchair users or people with frail legs. Sadly the main entrance into the great hall is closed off. So you need to enter through a steep small staircase, which is a bit annoying

We've seen our share of castles (and planning on seeing many more), but this one here must be one of the most impressive that we've ever encountered. Not only the building, the castle itself. But also the park, the garden and the massive landscape surrounding it. It's nothing short of amazing and breathtaking. We had our Bulldog with, so we just came for the outside section and the park. Only 7 Euros a person. And really cool that dogs are allowed. Parking for 6 Euros (no time limit) is fair as well. Pay at the counter or get a ticket at the machine (a lot faster). The castle itself is a stunning piece of architecture and is now in this state the biggest castle in the Netherlands. There was a castle here dating back to 1391. But not as big as the current one. Renovations and restorations took place over the centuries. Between 1892 and 1912 the castle as is it today was built. It's a lot younger than one might think. The garden and park in front of the castle are as impressive as the castle itselft. Perfectly taken care of and maintained. That takes a lot of hours and man/women power. Don't miss out on the Kruisvijver behind the castle - a large body of water. Beautiful. We would have never thought that the area is so big. East of the castle is a massive park and forest with countless trails it seems. We were walking around for 2-3 hours, always discovering new places and sight. It was beautiful to just roam around the castle grounds. Never have we seen so incredibly big surroundings by a castle. A wonderful way to spend a day. One almost wasn't enough. And our Bulldog loved it as well. There was some heavy rain sometimes, but we brought our bad-weather gear. Be sure to bring some in case the weather changes quickly. But even in the rain it was a wonderful experience. Castles - in my opinion - look even more magical and eerie on foggy, grey and rainy days. Loved everything about it. A must-do when in The Netherlands. Liked it here better than our time in Amsterdam. And for 7 Euros it's a steal. Image how many employees and how much work it takes to keep this place in shape. Worth your money and your time. Highly recommendable.

A unique visit that must be done by all history and castle lovers! Picturesque landscape that travels visitors to the 1700s! Very well maintained. Both surrounding areas and inside rooms are magnificent. Parking cost is costly for no reason as it offers neither security nor shadow.

The whole place is beautiful and relaxing. The castle is unique and fully renovated. Not just a boring, old-furniture-smelly old chateau. The rooms are full with life: the old phone is ringing sometimes, there are newspaper left on the table like its owner would have just left the room etc. The garden is beautiful, there are pretty little bridges everywhere, you can find deers as well etc. We spent 4 hours there. Enjoyed every minutes.

Most beautiful castle and gardens. Not possible to get there if you have to rely on public transport, so keep in mind that extra cost will be required to rent a car or hire a taxi. Booking in advance is a good idea - you book a time slot and then don't have to wait to go inside. We booked about 2 weeks in advance. You can easily spend a whole day there - both the residence and the gardens are absolutely magnificent!

Awesome place to visit. Highly recommended. Beautiful place to visit with family, friends, children, babies. You can spend a whole day there. Beautiful garden view, lake view and amazing castle 🏰. One of he best places in the Netherlands for photography, Sketching etc. as well. We had food at the restaurant in the campus area. I went with family including my 5 months old. It's stroller friendly except inside the castle. Baby Carrier is recommended. We had museum cards so we used it for the entry tickets. Had fun and will visit again.

A very beautiful castle, a must see. The park itself is a wonder. The tour of the castle is very recommended too. There are so many derails, so I would suggest to plan a long trip. It is also nice to visit the castle in a rainy day, it is worth to get wet a bit!

This was absolutely magical, I loved every minute of visiting. It would be a 10/10 no matter what - the castle and the interiors are simply breathtaking - but I just wanted to drop by and say CONGRATULATIONS to all the staff, everyone was incredibly warm, welcoming, and excited to share little curiosities and insights about the castle's history. A truly special experience, can't recommend it enough!

It was really an unexpected great visit. Just for case I drove there and I strongly recommend to go there. Beautiful castle from outside (I haven’t been inside). Entrance to the park is pretty cheap (7€) considering that is huge and you can spend a whole day also enjoying a picnic or relax in the green. Place is somehow magic!

Castle de Haar is a place which exceeded all my expectations. During our visit, we were not only able to explore the breathtaking castle but also stroll through its stunning gardens. The castle is a true masterpiece of architecture and history, with its perfectly preserved interiors and impressive collection of art and antiques. The gardens are also impressive. Overall, I highly recommend a visit to this castle for anyone looking to experience a truly magical and unforgettable day out.

We had such a positive experience going to visit this castle! Easy to get to with a connecting bus number 111 from the train station (although bus is small so try and queue early if it is busy). Gorgeous grounds, well kept and we got lucky with the weather so it looked lovely with all the water around. Shame we didn't see more flowers around, but I think that's because of the season. Castle itself is really interesting, very well presented. So many detas and helpful staff to answer questions. Because of the time slots it wasn't overcrowded in there so you could enjoy it without being pushed around. Unique and beautiful interior style, even with some of the more 50s style bedrooms. I'd recommend taking food with you, as around lunch time the two restaurants were super crowded. We took sandwiches and enjoyed eating on the grass - but this is obviously weather dependent. Overall would definitely recommend visiting. Even though we were staying in Haarlem, it was well worth the journey down there 😄

Really more of a country retreat for rich barons than a castle proper, but still impressive and the interior has some beautiful stained glass and other items. The Castle outer building is surrounded by a cool green scum moat, and you have to walk through pretty gardens to get to the Castle proper. Once you're in, you have to go down stairs and around a corner to a pinch point where you have to scan your ticket again for entry. They're quite strict about no bags/backpacks and have free lockers - a bit annoying as every other historical place we've been in Europe has allowed purses (they even said if you have a jacket you have to continue to wear it and can't carry it, ridiculous as it's quite warm as you go through the Castle). Displays are well-described, and they've got a good system of cables/signs for one-way progression through the Castle. Good visit, worth 1-1.5 hours of your time.

One of the best places to visit during the weekend in the region. Greatly maintained land around the castle. Unfortunately we were not able to see the castle inside as it is not accessible for baby strollers. It would have been great if they allowed access from the main entrance for handicapped people or people with their babies in a stroller.

Beautiful castle with lots of paths to walk around and enjoy the nature. There is a roses garden when you enter and a few flowers gardens on the whole property. We had Vrienden Loterij VIP card - free entrance. Only minus point is that you have to pay parking extra which cost 6 EUR. Other ways it's great experience for young and old.

Located close to Utrecht and major roads, this little oasis away is hidden away in beautiful picturesque countryside. Paid parking is available on site, visitors are able to book and pay for parking in advance as well as arrange tickets for the castle and garden. Inside the grounds you’ll find a very reasonably priced cafe. That’s said, some items in the gift shop are drastically over priced. 14:95 for a fridge magnet for example is just ridiculous. The gardens are beautifully well kept as well as the castle itself. Would recommend visiting!

Wonder place. No wonder why it's called the beautiful castle. Visit in a sunny day would make it perfect day trip. Place is maintained very well. Quite interactive staff who helps answering your stupid questions. I had also booked tickets for chatelet. So I could actually see the place which was open after 10 years for public to visit. Wow. Castle De Haar is a must see! We rented the electric bikes in Utrecht and biked to the castle. The trip took 35 minutes, the views are spectacular. Make sure to check the countryside stores and restaurants on the way there or back.

The castle can be easily reached by a vehicle. Roads are good an scenic. The luxury and glamor of the castle is beyond words. It was in use by the Barons as late as 2005, but now has been converted into a museum. Architecture of everything has been considered in furnishing any room of the castle. The bed can be English, the wardrobe French and the dresser can be Vietnamese. It is a must visit in my opinion. There is nice castle shop, where you can find some specialized gifts. The park of the castle is awesome and worth having a look. Lockers are there, a cafeteria is there. Car park can be availed at an extra cost.

What a marvellous day out! Fairy tale style castle set in beautiful grounds. Lots of rooms to visit and view. Excellent placard boards in each room (various languages), expanding on the use of the room over time. One word of caution - access to the castle is a NON starter for any one who needs a wheelchair or walker support.

The best castle to visit in the Netherlands. Very well preserved and in excellent condition. Renovated in the beginning of the 20th century is one of the best monuments in the Netherlands. It’s indeed a fairyland place wherein the sound of silence tells you the fairy tale stories of the Baron & Baroness. An amazing castle with equally well maintained amazing garden area. Indeed there is no doubt that this happens to be the biggest castle of the Netherlands.

Great visit with family. The museum has cards with explanations in different languages, quite helpful. The park is nice, quiet and wide. The small cafeteria is really small, you could be waiting there for 15 minutes easily, and the menu is not diverse. Still a must do if you visit the Netherlands.

Very beautiful!!! One of best iconic monuments in Netherlands!!! Pros - Very nice garden for relaxation... Two restaurants offers nice food to refresh everything! Very nice photography place for couples and wedding! (Check the website for necessary info) Cons - Please book the tickets to castle at least a day before. Especially over the weekends, the tickets to castle (to see inside the castle) is sold out!!!

Very fun, beautiful, and educational activity. Interesting to see how the elite lived and enjoyed their stays here. The garden was my favourite part. Just a note that if you don’t have a car it can be a bit tough to get to. There is a small bus that comes here so just take note of the times when planning your visit.

Feedback for improvement: 3 star for the following: Slow reception at the ticket purchase section. Apparently can only pay by card no cash. Cafe / Restaurant with terrace closes at 5 pm, would have been nicer if can open longer because the castle closes at 5 pm and garden at 6 pm so it gives an opportunity for visitors to enjoy the cafe and get some refreshments. Friendliness of the cafe service staff can be improved. Few ladies on duty inside the castle are friendly and pleasant in explaining and greetings visitors. Rather expensive overall. 5 star for the venue is magnificent.

Beautiful place for a day out! Come early if you like to visit the inside of the main castle. There is also a nice restaurant at the entrance and small café in the garden area. I have been here many times. And I will come back again ❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful castle and grounds. The staff here are all volunteers (unpaid) and it is a labour of love and passion for the castle. Shout out to Martijn for his extensive and excellent knowledge of the castle and family! The halls and rooms are lavish and opulently furnished, and it is truly a marvel to observe the beauty of the castle. The gardens and grounds are nicely manicured too, lovely to relax in on a sunny summer day! Only drawback would be the difficulty in accessing the castle via public transport - plan ahead and you will be fine.

Very nice castle with huge park around. Photogenic place and nicely organized. Toilets, restaurant, cafe and benches in the shadows. All that you need to spend there a day.

Largest castle of The Netherlands. Can be a fun day. Make sure to buy tickets beforehand of the inside of the castle as sometimes they are sold out specially during holidays. Bring a picnic basket and mat to enjoy a great day in the amazing gardens of the castle. Not too expensive. Castle tickets include parking. Can also buy only the gardens for which parking ticket is separate.

Such a stunning place, beautiful grounds and well maintained. This place is magical, the history of the inside of the castle was wonderful. Staff inside was very insightful. I’d really recommend this place for anyone who loves to learn history and to enjoy a wonderful walk around stunning gardens

The biggest castle in the Netherlands with astonishing gardens! Even though I visited here on a rainy summer day, it was a peaceful walk through the gardens. I was not super impressed by the interior, the kitchen looks dazzling though! The history of the castle is also interesting to read/watch. I find it also pretty easy to reach by public transportation, there is a bus stop right in front of the castle. It is free to visit with the Museumkaart!

Amazing castle and park which makes you feel like you are inside a fairy tale. There are a lot of things to do around and the history of the castle is pretty interesting. The garden is pretty huge and there is even a maze and a deer park you can visit. I believe this is one of the top visits in the Netherlands.

Easily one of my favourite places in the Netherlands. So much history, beauty, serenity. Fabulous flower gardens surrounding the castle and its adjacent buildings, animal enclosures, lots of places for picnic. Simply wonderful. We went on a weekday and there were very few people. It was really peaceful and we had a great time. The only downside was that there is only one bus per hour to and from Vleuten but if you’re not in a hurry it’s really not a big deal. The lady at the information was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend visiting!

Beautiful castle, the gardens are amazing and so impressive to see and of course take pictures of, you would think you are royalty. The inside of the castle and descriptions of every exhibit is very thorough and nicely explained by the tour guides. A must visit!

The castle’s remarkable architecture, opulent interiors, and picturesque gardens make it a excellent choice destination for a weekend trip. The blend of late-Gothic and Renaissance styles is inspiring, with grand halls, intricate woodcarvings, and stunning stained glass windows. Getting there requires some transportation planning but worth the trip. Entrance 18EUR and free if you hold a museum card.

This is one of the best place to visit if you are in Netherlands. Its 1 hour journey from central station. And then you also need to walk for 15 minutes from bus stop. The castle is beautiful from inside as well as from outside. They have maintained it property.

Great experience for the family, the entire property is just stunning and having the ability to walk through the castle and all the grounds is great. Kids loved the maze. Staff were friendly and of course so knowledgeable. We also had lunch at the cafe and the quality/service was on par with an external restaurant.

Castle is very well maintained and beautiful. Lots of rose gardens around. Cafe and toilets right at the entrance, are convenient and clean. Be prepared to wind up your trip before time. They start closing half an hour before the announced time.

Such a beautiful castle! We visited on a rainy day and missed almost most of the outside experience but it still was breathtaking. Make sure that you book your tickets in advance and plan your visit according to the bus 111 schedule that goes there

A magical place. We spent 4-5h hours here. Mostly just hiking in the grounds/park surrounding the Castle. The castle tour took us around one hour and we felt a bit underwhelmed by it. We were expecting more "this medieval castle was..." and less "this famous person slept in this room". The park alone is worth the visit. It's easy to get there, we took a local bus from Vleuten Station.
