I liked the museum! Some interesting artworks. Spend 75 minutes there. Less then Google mentioned as average (2-3 hours). Surroundings of the museum are also nice. You can take a stroll, or get lunch in the neighbouring restaurant. We walked to the beach afterwards (1.5 hour walk)

This museum is without doubt the best museum I have ever been to in my life. The way that the main building has been designed relative to the surroundings, the stunning gardens and the light inside the building was amazing. The quality of the installations and art was visually impressive and engaging. The staff were all really friendly and took the time to explain everything and engage meaningfully. I recommended this museum to as many people as I could and they all raved about the place. This is definitely one of the best places to go in the Netherlands.

Voorlinden is a private museum located in Wassenaar, near The Hague in the Netherlands. It was founded by businessman and art collector Joop van Caldenborgh in 2016. The museum is situated on a beautiful estate in the dunes, providing a picturesque setting for the display of modern and contemporary art. The museum building itself is designed to enhance the art viewing experience. It is an oblong-shaped structure made of variegated dune sand-colored natural stones and transparent glass walls, allowing the surrounding nature to blend with the interior. The building features an elegant white-steel colonnade and a unique roof structure. The interior is divided into three sections, corresponding to the museum's program of collection presentations, changing exhibitions, and permanent in-situ works. The exhibition rooms are illuminated by natural daylight, which enters the building through ingeniously cut tubes, creating a gradual and dynamic lighting effect. To ensure optimal illumination on less sunny days and evenings, a velum and transparent glass roof with integrated LED lighting is used. Museum Voorlinden houses several permanent artworks. Some of these are incorporated into the building itself, such as the Skyspace by James Turrell and the corten steel sculpture Open Ended by Richard Serra. The museum also features works by Maurizio Cattelan, including a permanent installation, as well as the illusionistic Swimming Pool by Leandro Erlich. Additionally, semi-permanent displays include the hyper-realistic Couple under an Umbrella by Ron Mueck and glass sculptures by Roni Horn. Each artwork is presented in its own separate gallery, allowing visitors to fully appreciate them. The Voorlinden Estate has a rich history dating back to Roman times. The name Voorlinden originated in 1584, and during the 17th century, several country estates were established around The Hague, including Voorlinden. In the early 19th century, a park was designed in landscape style by J.D. Zocher and his son. Later, architect R.J. Johnston built the current country house based on the English stately house style, commissioned by Esquire Ir. Hugo Loudon. Landscape architect Leonard Springer redesigned the landscape during the same period, incorporating indigenous and exotic tree species. For the opening of Museum Voorlinden, landscape and garden architect Piet Oudolf was tasked with designing the area surrounding the new building, resulting in a unique blend of 19th-century, 20th-century, and 21st-century landscapes. Visitors to the estate can enjoy the freely accessible woods, dune meadow, and dune areas by following designated footpaths. However, due to the presence of wildlife and birds, dogs are required to be kept on a leash. Museum Voorlinden Buurtweg 90 2244 AG Wassenaar Nederland

This incredible place is definitely worth a visit if you’re into modern art. Kind of reminded of me “Depot Boijmans” in Rotterdam. The swimming pool exhibition is crazy and the room with glow in the dark lighting. No need to pre purchase tickets. Taking public transport is easy, it’s only a 5-10 mins walk from the closest bus stop which takes you directly to The Hague central. Go in the morning. Spend the day on the relaxing on the grass after or at the cafe.

This place is magnificent. The building sits peacefully surrounded by a beautiful forest, connected to nature. The inside to outside edge is none existing. The swim in the pool, was a whole new experience. Going deep down with out getting wet. Looking up at blurry faces looking down. The art is alive, creating such a fun atmosphere with laughter and sounds from the deep belly. There are some wise words from a little mouse, stop and listen, take those thoughts home and into action. The people sitting on the beach are larger than life, quite literally, so real but not alive. Walking into the labrinth through the curves is indeed a journey with in and with out, the corners come and go and than you find yourself. A room where the sky is the painting, now that's a thought. To stand surrounded by lights and water, one feels part of the universe. For everyone who has been traveling around the sun, I say pop in, you will be taken back to yourself, to the very beginning.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. I won't lie and say I know much about modern art but that did not stop me enjoying the museum in full. There are some very interesting and thought provoking exhibitions in an architecturally stunning building. Staff are friendly and helpful and the grounds/gardens surrounding the museum are beautifully done and maintained with expert care. We cycled which was ideal as the weather was lovely, but it is a bit of trek from the nearest bus stop (20 walk), so perhaps it would be best to drive there if bringing kids or older folks!

My favorite museum! I was there five of six times Such a different experience: no crowds, beautiful countryside around, the display is always top notch, you can go for a nature walk straight away. Love this place! Be aware, museum card is not valid.

An amazing location, most certainly worth a visit for their inspiring displays of contemporary artwork. It was pouring with rain the day we visited, we'd taken a train, then a bus, then walked through the storm without an umbrella so it was a joy to dry off in this light and wonderful space. Thoroughly recommend a visit there!

A must for contemporary art fans and Instagram enthusiasts! Definitely one of the best art museums in the country. Though it has its cons: If you travel by public transport then it’s quite a walk by foot, they don’t take Museumkaart, it gets quite crowded so you better come in early if you want to see the mirror room. It has so many nice and unique pieces that make the trip worth it.

Impressive private collection (and exhibition facility), made accessible to lovers of contemporary (conceptual) art. High enter- and infotainment value, and therefor fit for children as well. Nice building, good (out-door) catering, beautiful garden, situated at the edge of the Zuid-Holland dune area of Wassenaar.

Fantastic museum. Such an impressive building (spacious and the lighting is so well done), beautiful green surroundings, art works get all the space they need. Loved the Anthony Gormley exhibition, it's quite an experience! Enough parkingplaces (free), good lockers (don't need a coin) and clean toilets. Two restaurants. Steep entry fee (no Museumkaart), drinks and sandwiches at safaritent not great for price, but nice to sit in the field watching the birds fly over.

To be found on a discreet side street of Wassenaar is an aesthetic oasis. There is ample parking, go early to void disappointment. The pavilion is 300 meter from the car park. Follow well paved wide path past the restaurant and Martin Creed trees to the entrance. The elegant building is tall and spacious with glass on all sides. There is a library (by appointment only), a temporary exhibition, an excellent permanent collection and concerts once a month on Monday mornings. Admission is €22, no concessions, no Ya Carte. Plan to spend at least 2 hours indoors. Do experience the Turrell Sky Room, the swimming pool, the piano and outdoor sculptures ( another hour at least). Children and babies seemed very welcome. There is a cloak room and lockers. No bags allowed. The gift shop has lots of interesting things for all budgets. Despite it being very busy the staff were very nice and attentive. I cant recommends this impeccable gem highly enough.

This is an absolutely magical place in the Netherlands!!! Hardly visited by tourists, as it’s a bit cumbersome to get to from the usual touristy spots, this museum is immersed in an oasis of greenery and lush and filled with wonders. Visit the temporary exhibitions (when we went you could get a tattoo from the artist on the spot!), to the marvellous permanent installations. What an absolutely incredible find!

I really enjoyed my visit here! It’s a fantastic museum with beautiful contemporary art collections. The collections are not too much that you feel like you have to rush through each one of them, but are not too few that you feel it’s not worth it to come. The route is designed nicely and the staff members are very helpful. The museum itself is very pleasantly designed too, the lines are finished beautifully and the layout of the collections is great.

Stunning modern art museum, but pretty sad to see they use live kanaries in small uninspiring cages for one their exhibits. Really ruined the experience for me. Edit: Thank you for your reply. When something is allowed by law does mean it's good taste or morally sound. I would have expected a museum like yours to uphold higher standards than that.

The Voorlinden Museum is an Art Museum in Wassenaar and is privately owned and founded by Joop van Caldenborg. What a cool collection of art! The Voorlinden Museum has so much fun things to see. And not just for adults. The Museum it self looks great. Just wait until you get inside. Enjoy!

This museum was like a dream! I went here for my birthday, and it really lived up to my expectations! The current expositions are very colurful, bold and modern. It truly was a lovely experience to have been here. It felt very minimal and playful at the same time. I can't recommend it enough :)

Visiting Museum Voorlinden was an impulse decision so I did not read up beforehand. I was pleasantly surprised by the art they had on display. I am no art connoisseur but I love photography. So seeing large prints by Rineke Dijkstra was a nice surprise. A very large piece by Andy Warhol, Damien Hurst etc. Pretty impressive. I skipped the Anselm Kiefer. Too heavy for me. I was amused by the boomers trying to be very arty and 'explaining' all the art while looking very serious. Richard Serra's massive steel structure is very impressive. Don't forget to walk up the steps to see it from above. And go to the pool art thing. Look down and then go underneath to look up. The reastaurant is well run, especially since they are currently seven vacancies on the restaurant alone. The pea soup I had is not as good as the one I make but there was nothing really wrong with it either. I'll be back, once they replace mr Kiefer with something more interesting. Still on the expensive side though. The Museumkaart is not accepted here.

Other than there being annoying people blocking you from seeing the exhibits because they are taking pictures. The art itself is very good. And the this building that I don't know about on the way.

(Translated by Google) The art is fun and cool to see. In contrast, the atmosphere in this museum is terrible. If you speak even a little louder than whisper level, half the museum will look at you as if you are crazy. About 12,737 times were asked if we wanted to keep our distance from the artworks. It seems quite logical to me that you don't touch anything in a museum (which we obviously didn't do either). In short, nice art with a terribly uncomfortable unpleasant atmosphere. The proof can be seen in the vlog of YouTuber Don de Jong! Type in on YouTube: "THIS IS BIZARRE FACIAL!" and experience the nasty atmosphere for yourself, without paying an entrance fee.

Wonderful museum of contemporary modern art located on lush and verdant property just north of The Hague (Wassenaar). Currently, the main exhibit is Alex Katz. It is, however, a private museum, thus the museum card doesn’t work there. Entry fee is 19 euros and well worth it. And be sure to order the apple taart at the museum cafe.

  • 5/5 Dide K. 1 year ago on Google
What a hidden gem! The museum is filled with super interesting and very nice pieces and exhibitions, it was very fun to walk around. You can interact with some pieces as well. I recommend going on a weekday for the least amount of visitors, and buy the ticket at the museum to get a paper ticket if you like collecting souvenirs. There was no line for the tickets and museum was relatively empty, we got to enjoy everything and got nice shots. It’s a private museum so unfortunately you can’t enter for free here with a museum card, you have to buy the ticket. Don’t forget to sit down and relax at the restaurant and check out the cows with white belts! 🐄

There is a tour for kids available as well.

Fantastic museum! They have a permanent exhibition and 2 changing ones. At the time of writing I liked the permanent the best. They are big and interactive and very special! (Translated by Google) Beautiful setting and tasty cakes. Wide collection of art. However, there is little information in the booklets. These only state how the work was made, but with most works it is not entirely clear what the artist wants to convey with the work. This makes it less accessible for the less connoisseurs among us. (Original) Prachtige omgeving en lekker gebak. Ruime collectie van kunst. Echter staat er weinig informatie in de boekjes. (Translated by Google) Nice museum, spacious, visited around two o'clock, for children a card game with questions, due to the Corona measures now book online, sit outside and / or walk in good weather with beautiful views, recommended!

Great Museum and cafe. The museum has a great array of pieces of multiple mediums by a compelling array of artists. The surrounding gardens are also quite nice to walk around.

Nice museum with exhibitions on modern art. The entrance fee is super expensive for what they expose though and the museum is quite far from the city of the Hague so it's more something to do by car than by public transport. The park surrounding the museum is really nice so be sure to go there on a sunny day so you can enjoy it :)

(Translated by Google) Nice museum to visit together. Very spacious and impressive works of art. However, you will be sent to the highlights right at the beginning, which is more of a DIY part. Going through everything else with small children afterwards is very difficult (saying no touch 200 times is simply tiring). I had chosen a different route through the museum myself. Furthermore, had a great day. Verder prima dag gehad.

Nice museum, not to big. A visit will cost you approximately 1 hour inside the museum and afterwards you can do a walk in the park

Stunning Art, Architectural building, surrounding Gardens plus the unwinding Restaurant to take all your experience in... why are you waiting to visit?

Beautiful modern art collections! Also really beautiful park and garden as surroundings. Too bad, just like any other famous exhibits, I needed to pile up my patience a little bit extra to see the swimming pool exhibits and I was only allowed to be inside the swimming pool for 1 minute. I was with my 2 other friends anyway and one minute to enjoy and take pictures, not to mention to pass through the stairs were definitely not convenient.

Park
👍 Lovely place. Nice day visit. We had fun walking in the park and enjoy the forest, small canals and pools, and different animals like ducks, swans, frogs and more. Strange, we were lucky to be almost alone in the park, due to the Corona virus times... I uploaded some pics as well.
