I have to admit that I’m a little bit disappointed. I expected from city like Rotterdam to have a big and breathtaking art museum / gallery. But Kunsthal is just okay. Or maybe I’ve seen too many places to be impressed by this spot.

Nice exhibitions, I came on a random day so there were only 2 rooms I could relate to. I would recommend checking their program before visiting.

I've visited here for Tim Walker: Wonderful Things. It was an enchanting experience. The building consists of two parts where one part is a cafe with nice meals and the other with exhibitions. The door is from the cafe part, where you take tickets and see summaries of the show, then start the exhibition, when you're done you can buy stuff related to the exhibition if you want to keep some as a memory. It's also right next to many other splendid museums you should definitely give this place a day and see museums and art galleries as much as you can.

We can call this a museum of modern art! Exhibitions are not permanent and this is what makes it always exciting to visit the museum regularly if you happen to live in or nearby Rotterdam. Every floor has a 'themed' exhibition that is carefully crafted and executed. Absolutely recommended!

Great location, big area with several exhibitions. Friendly staff. It's at least a 20 min walk from the Central Station, easy to find. Also an area for kids (at least during that exhibition where I was).

One of my favorite places to visit. I learn something new every time I go. They always display a good mix of interesting modern art and contemporary work. One piece of advice: even after visiting several times I still get a little bit lost every time, so be prepared to walk around a bit to find all the exhibitions.

The museum consists of 7 different spaces, which regularly host different artists/ exhibitions. But ofc everyone of these can be visited with the ticket. Museum is well structured! Since the venues of the different spaces change regularly there probably is something for everybody anytime one visits!

Great museum! It's not huge (up 1-1.5 hours I would say) but it can accommodate up to 8 exhibitions. I went today and there were 7 exhibitions on. I guess you should check upfront what exhibitions are on to see if there's something for you. It is always changing. Today all were very different, but all very beautiful, unique, thought provoking or fun! Interesting for children and adults alike and really a cool space. I don't normally like seeing the same-old classical paintings and get bored quickly, but kunsthal has a wide range with a good mix of modern and interactive. Would definitely recommend to others. Note: I went in with my museum card!

According to sources, Kunsthal hosts a new show every few months. I was fortunate to come this past week (beginning of July) because the exhibitions were fantastic. This museum is a must-see for everyone interested in modern art. The staff is also friendly. The museum's restaurant featured delicious tea and food. I believe that not all exhibitions are suitable for children, but the majority of them are.

Every time I’ve been to Kunsthal, I’ve asked myself… HOW is it possible that a building can be built/marked in such a confusing way? I always get lost and lose track of which one on the 7 halls I’ve seen, and so on. Sometimes, I’ve missed entire exhibitions because of the strange and confusing layout of the museum. Besides that though, the curators have amazing taste, the space is interesting and beautiful for the most part, and the exhibitions have always been nice and interesting, so I’d definitely recommend going if you’re in the area.

Tackling contemporary and difficult issues. You will not walk away without reflecting deeply

Compared to Voorlinden I was really disappointed with this museum. The exhibitions weren't really well curated, it was a bunch of random artifacts without any obvious connection, there were no descriptions, QR codes or anything that would have explained it, and it was very focused on Dutch history and culture. The highlight with the big playground and balls has a severe shortcoming which is that you're not allowed to take your phone but there's also no secure storage available, it's been really frustrating not being able to go and the museum staff were unwilling to help. We also got lost several times because the exhibition numbers don't correlate with the hall that they are shown in so until you understand that you run in circles. Lots of potential but poor implementation.

The museum is ok, however they should put direction signs. It's difficult to know which way to go since level 1 & 3 are next to each other 6 & 4... on different level, it's a bit messy. The big bouncing stage was soo much fun.

The Kunsthal museum, located in Rotterdam, Netherlands, is known for its diverse and dynamic exhibitions that cover a wide range of art forms, including contemporary art, design, photography, and more. It has gained a reputation for hosting thought-provoking and innovative displays. I have been visiting Kunsthal a few times already It seems that the latest exhibition fell short in terms of size. Overall I do recommend.

It was a really nice museum. Very immersive. Really liked the Ai Wei Wei exhibit. Total time 1,5-2hrs.

We were able to attend Friday Night live. While the coordination for food service left much to be desired we throughly enjoyed the AI Wei exhibit. His installation was provocative and inspiring.

De Kunsthal in itself is a great museum, the architecture enhances whatever is on display at that point. Went there to see Ai Wei Wei: very impressive, very extensive showcase of his work thru the years. Would recommend

I extended my trip from Amsterdam to Rotterdam to visit Kunsthal Museum especially as Refik Aandol’s solo exhibition is on. The travel was bit indirect as there was no direct train. The exhibition itself was great - Refik’s art is mesmerizing as always, although the exhibition hall was smaller than I anticipated. All in all it’s still a worthwhile visit. It’s also my first time to see the national park series and the wind series.

  • 4/5 Jemma B. 4 months ago on Google
Highly recommend the Ai Weiwei exhibition. Do not go on the weekend though, there seems to be no crowd control and it was way too busy!

I have lived here for almost a year and I biked past this museum quite a few times. Finally I got to go inside and free with my museum card. We reserved two tickets and just had to show the museum card, very quick and painless. This was a nice place, one of my favorite museums in Rotterdam, it was more modern art which was really nice to see and I resonated with the messages. Nice installations and it wasn't too large so we did not feel overwhelmed with the amount of installations.

Creative museum, great home-made patat in the restaurant.

From the outside, you might think it is a traditional museum building, but when you go inside, you know you are wrong. One of the pavilions was under renovation when I went, and other exhibits were also fascinating.

I strolled and watched the interesting exhibitions in the museum on Thursday afternoon. Nice, cool and recommend!

The all star museum every time I go. Curation is always very curious and exciting, can be a bit crowded at times but it does not take away from the experience, the building itself is very peculiar and fun to walk through also. Never skip zaal 2, the routing and story telling there is always the best!

An amazing experience. Each exhibit was beautifully curated and at no point did we feel like cattle being moved through a processing facility which is in stark contrast to the Amsterdam MoCo. It didn’t feel cynically commercialized either; you could tell the curation was deliberate and thoughtful. Unrelated to art but the cafe serves a pretty banging gado gado :)

Great gallery with interesting exhibitions and nice guards who don’t disturb you while you are watching!

Absolutly worth it if you like Modern Art! Let different disciplines of art surround you and impress you and after every visit, your view at many subjects makes your mind wonder. Very good sidekick events. Join the Koppelvisit and visit the exhibition with a total stranger or enjoy the music on summersundayafternoons (outside event)

One of my favorite museums in the Netherlands. The great thing about this museum is their temporary exhibitions. A place full of art and resistance toward anything against norms.

  • 5/5 Tetiana T. 2 years ago on Google
The exhibitions are spectacular and it's worth visiting. Hopefully, they would open the other halls soon. Just a small recommendation to the administration: please put stickers with arrows that will help visitors to navigate inside the building.

Contemporary art mainly. A hefty 16 Euros entrance fee.

  • 4/5 April C. 2 years ago on Google
Very informative and interesting museum. Gift shop is quite pricey. Staff in café are very friendly. Could really improve with directions about open areas, however staff inside the exhibits are helpful.
