As a photographer I was so excited to see this museum and the main exhibition showing the Dutch photography history was super I interesting!! There were also two more exhibition about a photographer and a specific project; everything was well curated and amazing to discover. Also the shop has got cool photo books Approved 100%

(Translated by Google) The relationship between the collections was not clear to me. The app on your phone that allows you to scan photos has no added value. Tip: ask any person on the street what he thinks he can find in a photo museum. Adjust your collection accordingly. And finally: the museum charges a hefty entrance fee for those who do not have a museum card.

Great exhibits and very welcoming and friendly staff. The two exhibits they had on were incredible and would definitely recommend seeing. The collection upstairs are photos selected by successful guest curators who pick photos from the museums extensive collection.

We found this museum quite disappointing; the space was organized in a poor way, many exhibition halls were separated in way that distract the continuity of most regular museums and it accommodates only few exhibitions with less good work. We’ve finished the museum in few minutes and definitely it is not worth the money nor the time. I won’t recommend it on you day tour.

The Netherlands Photo Museum is a photography museum in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, founded in 1989. The collection of the museum consists of many historical, social and cultural images from the 20th and 21st centuries, from the Netherlands and elsewhere... As a non-professional, but who likes photography, it was interesting for me to see the exhibition...

This fascinating, and the most important photography museum in the Netherlands, is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the city. All exhibitions are not permanent which gives us a good reason to visit frequently. The current exhibits (September 2021) are shown in these photos. Highly recommended! An extra star for the wonderful, friendly and helpful staff

Current main exhibition is a gallery of honour of 99 Dutch photographs. They're from 1840 until the present on many different subjects. There's also a temporary exhibition showing the work of Ad van Denderen. The museum isn't very big, so you'll probably be through it in about two hours, but there's interesting work to see.

Probably wouldn't have visited except it was right next to our hotel and free with the museumkaart. I was thoroughly impressed. They had some really old photos, really cool new ones, and an exhibit from wars in the 70s. Mostly portraits and pics of people, but there were many to be seen that you can't see anywhere else.

Impressive exhibits at a friendly and modern museum on Rotterdam’s avant-garde new district.

  • 3/5 Kristina N. 2 years ago on Google
The exhibitions varied in quality. One was scattered famous people mixed up with photos from Amsterdam neighborhoods. Although the photos were good, I would have liked to see more of a connection between them as well as more focus on the Rotterdam area. Another focused on AI and the tech behind it was semi-interesting but the execution was not particularly eye catching. A third was focused on refugee stories and this one was emotional as well as connected. Very impactful. A fourth was architectural in a range of ways. I really liked how this connected the local expertise with global buildings. All in all good variety, but some more focus could enhance the experience.

I was there for the Dutch photography exhibit and it was quite interesting. Just one thing... the booklets we were given, containing the information about each photograph was built in an irritatingly senseless way. Having to turn 20 pages to find the picture in front of you every time is a little crazy. Please fix this and it'll be such a nicer experience :)

3 changing photo exhibitions at any time, so various visits each year. Currently very interesting 99 selected photos for the Honorary Gallery of Dutch Photography and first Chas Gerretsen exhibition.

Beautifully located in the "Kop van Zuid". Friendly and helpful staff, that are always keen on giving you information regarding exhibits. My favourite place to go see photography. Don't forget to go down and up stairs!

It's a great museum with a large variety of photos with each exhibition. Because of this there is also much to learn, sometimes they have multiple exhibitions at the same time so there is something for everyone. The people there are very kind and supportive if you have a question or want more information. Whenever you have the chance to check it out, I definitely recommend it!

  • 5/5 moringa f. 1 year ago on Google
Really enjoyed this museum. Lots of thought-provoking photographs. You can download an app or have a booklet that have the information on all the photos displayed. It was fairly quiet when we went there. They also had a seperate exhibit that is only there for a period of time. That was lovely as well. Overall, great experience. I recommend this museum if you are into photography or simply enjoy it.

Nice atmosphere, cool exhibitions, they only thing that I would change is the supply of the shop, I would have loved to buy some posters of the current exhibitions but also if the have a storage of previous ones.

Hidden insider tip not far from the Erasmus Bridge. The photo museum contains several exhibitions, ranging from historical images to an exhibition of images by one photographer to a competition between several photographers. The exhibitions are well presented, you are well guided through the individual exhibitions and, if necessary, have a very personal, good introduction and on-site advice on the contents of the exhibitions. If you are interested in photography of all kinds, you will definitely get your money's worth here. In my opinion, however, there are a few small points that could be improved: the well-designed app works very well, but it is not usable because the WiFi and mobile phone reception on site do not work sufficiently. In my opinion, the exhibition on the Israel-Palestine war conflict was not sufficiently contextualized.

Fascinating exhibition of 99 photos illustrating the development of photography in The Netherlands from the mid 19th century up to the present. Many of the black and white photos were wonderful. We used the free app to explore the background in more depth.

A good and interesting collection of photos. You can watch it like a timejourney with a lot important political and social events. And also are temporary exibitions - we visited the palestina and refugee photographs with very actual meanings. Some descriptions should be also in English. The location itself is really made for this kind of exibition. We spend 2 hours. As student you get half price.

  • 3/5 Roberto F. 6 months ago on Google
Nice exposition of Dutch photography by 99 shots chosen from the origin of photography up to today. The narrative is left to a smartphone app and helps a lot to appreciate the museum. Unfortunately, big minus, the app is based on text and images. Therefore you have to keep your eyes on the phone to read, instead of looking at the photographs. Would be much better if there were audio descriptions as well, so that you can look at the pictures and listen to their story.

Place with no rush photography to see, don't forget the library. Check the website regarding the workshops. Exposition will be seen within 1 hour max, 2 floors. There is a baby changing table in the toilet.

I was really touched by the Siberian outcasts scenery, the whole story was told amazingly beautiful. For a descendant of people hurt by the Soviet doings around Litwa and Belarus it was even more real. The whole staff of the museum was super nice and helpful. I will be stopping by again if I come back to Rotterdam.

Great museum! The exhibition about the dutch photography was interesting and educational. I really reccomend downloading the app to get the full experience. The temporary exhibition of SANJA MARUŠIĆ (18 FEB. TILL 18 JUN. 2023) is amazing. It can be seen that it was well curated and the exhibition space is part of the art.

Good overview on the dutch photography journey over the past 150 years. It was a good exhibition and learned a lot. Engaging thought with all the information from the picture. The current exhibition by national dutch photographer was also super great. Love the details on how they put over photography as an art.

  • 5/5 Seimen B. 1 year ago on Google
This Dutch museum for photography has a huge collection of top class photographs from top class photographers. So can can draw from this collection to make very interesting exhibitions which never disappoint. The location is in the part of where an old busy port of Rotterdam used to be and the museum is housed in one of the old warehouses from that time. The whole area is now full of restaurants, hotels and there is the cruise terminal. With the so called Museumkaart you can get in for free so when you are planning to visit more museums in The Netherlands it may be a good idea to get one as normal entry prices are sometimes very high.

A great resource for photographers. The large exhibition space played host to an interesting exhibition that was well curated. The exhibition also featured a slideshow displayed across multiple backgrounds with accompanying music. The attached shop is large and contains a lot of choice in photobooks and also a sale section where I picked up two books for only €25 which is a great value for a well printed photobook. The staff were very friendly and had big smiles on their faces also.
