A really nice museum in the north of the Netherlands. Try to choose a sunny day. Keep in mind that the museum has 2 sections; an outside and an inside part. Make sure you visit the outside because it is beautiful. You will find boats, fishing nets, artifacts for sailing, windmills and two chimneys. There is even a blacksmith shop which is very nostalgic. Also, there is an old school. Yeah, literally an old school where you will find blackboards, benches, and many other cools stuff that would take you back to 50-60 years ago. The whole city of Enkhuizen is gorgeous with its harbors. After your museum visit, you can lounge at terraces and enjoy your time. Definitely recommend.

I love reconstructed villages - they offer inside people lived years ago that you can't gain through reading or museum exhibits. This museum was on par with the swedish Skansa in the care taking together houses from the area and bringing them together and putting them in a realistic environment. The people who play roles in the museum are dedicated and fantastic at what they do. This was a great experience particularly when combined with the train/ship from Hoorn.

Enjoyed a great day here! Caught the ferry first and then dropped us off at the outdoor museum. Everything is well sign posted in English, Dutch and German. Lots of fun things to do and the cafe was great. Great way to learn about the history of the region.

A small but very pleasant museum, some interactive pieces for the kids, an absolutely delightful costume and headdress section. Audioguides available in Dutch English and German.

Perfect little outdoor museum depicting a traditional fisherman village on the shores of the old Zuiderzee (now IJsselmeer). Fun for all ages. (and don't miss the traditional apple pie)

So interesting learning how the fishermen and their families lived and survived so long ago. It was such a hard life!! And to deal with their homes flooding at least twice a year, every year until the government said enough and started building the dams.

Very nice museum, this one is a full day experience, we arrived 11 and left by closing at 17 and we did not have time for the indoor museum , feelt expensive at 18 e online price but was so very well spent , pro tip , to save 7euro on parking google for "p+r einhuizen" it is along the station (ignore all roadsigns for museum ) , here you park free for 24 hours , ample with free spaces when we visited , just head down to station building and you see signs for the ferry across the road , the tourist office has ticket ( you need to buy before the boat ) if you did not get them online , ferry was every 20" and is the same as from the pay parking. 5 min walk from car to ferry

Started in the indoor museum where there is a lot to see. The main part of the museum on the upper floor takes you round in a circle. Go to the right to start! A better part of the museum, presuming good weather, is the outside part further along the road. Lots of dwellings/buildings, like a small town, with descriptions. There are a couple of cafés to stop for coffee/lunch. You can either walk to the museum or take the ferry back to Enkhuisen, near the railway station. Tickets in advance (online) are €18/person.

There are inside and outside parts combined into one museum called Zuiderzeemuseum. I found it nice and informative. They both explain more the history of the area including how the lives were like in the past. The ticket price is for both and if you have a museumkaart, it is valid for the museum.

I can't say enough about this place,as it is one of the best museums in Holland. The history of the fisherman of the north and how they built the Great dike. A must see for all visitors to the Netherlands.

Nice representation of what living would be like in the time. A wide range of activities to do while your there ( making rope, a little carnival and other stuff) several farm animals but also a small verity of birds some bigger some smaller. The ferry ride shows you I nice view of the area and an explanation of the stuff around. Several nice shops like cheese food souvenir shops and a restaurant which has good food

The museum is laid out like a traditional Dutch village, with a variety of historic buildings that have been carefully restored to their original condition. Visitors can explore a fisherman's house, a church, a school, and other buildings that offer a fascinating glimpse into everyday life in the region. One of the highlights of the museum is the opportunity to interact with costumed interpreters who bring the history to life. These knowledgeable guides offer demonstrations of traditional crafts and trades, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the region's history and culture. The museum also features a fascinating collection of historic boats, including traditional Dutch fishing vessels and cargo ships. Visitors can take a ride on a replica of a historic ferry, providing a unique perspective on the region's rich maritime history.

Surprisingly nice museum. Loads of things to do for both the children (age 2-7) and adults. The staff is kind and the smoked fish is truly a treat.

Wonderful museum with lots of really enthusiastic volunteers. They are keen to offer information and demonstrations of various styles, jobs and hobbies of the people living in the town during the period. The town is beautifully reconstructed and preserves the history of the country extremely well for us to enjoy. A boat ride to the entrance is also included if you wish. Information is available in Dutch, English and German.

We had a great time at this museum. It's soo big you can spend the whole day having fun. Perfect for young and old. It's a bit more expensive than other museums but you get the value for your money.

If you are in the area and have kids this is a must stop. The boats are beautiful, the homes and buildings from the past have a lot to learn from and it's a great place to spend a day.

Definitely one of my favorite spots in The Netherlands. As someone who loves family history (and is of Dutch descent), this museum was super informative for all of my questions regarding life in the past, especially for the Dutch because that's where many of my ancestors are from. Nevertheless, the exhibits were fun to explore and the experience of riding the boat there was a fun one! The gift shop was nice and getting to walk around the picturesque city of Enkhuizen afterwards was a treat itself.

Came there assuming that we went into a museum inside but we're happily surprised that we went on a ferry to an outside little town. It was like going back in time, like the 1900ths. We were there on the hottest day of the year, 36 degrees Celsius and almost everybody went to the beach 🏖️. So it was nice and quit. I won't tell you too much cause that will spoil your experience 😎 nice people and excellent presentations. We had an perfect day👍🏻😊

We had an amazing time here at the Zuiderzee binnen en buiten museum! The ticket is valid for both the museums for one full day. The outside museum is so big and one can easily spend the whole day here. It’s informative, interactive, entertaining and relaxing for all age groups. They have beautifully restored multiple aspects that define the culture of the Zuiderzee people. Each display point has a Dutch, English and German version and hence it’s easier to get the context. The place is well-maintained! Would suggest going early to be able to explore as much as possible in both the museums. You can save €1 per ticket through online purchase. Definitely worth a visit!

What a great cultural experience. Done with all the touristy things in Amsterdam? I highly recommend coming to this museum, you won't be disappointed. Try to take a canal trip around the village and don't miss the smoked fish near the windmill.

An excellent place to visit. The remains of a village in 1600 has been reconstructed with similar other materials brought from various places. Now it is a traditional village nobody lives except commercial establishments. A place must see how they controlled the flood from the see which is below the sea level.

Great experience, well arranged, entertaining and informative! Experience going back in time and seeing how the Dutch life looked like. Have a peek inside the houses, look at the different workshops and "meet" the people. Parking is available (7eur p/day), you can take a free ferry to the museum. Roam around the town, expect to spend approx 3 hours if you take the time to read and engage. Pros - Everything is well arranged - plenty of parking - multiple languages for int guests - easy to explore Notes - best experienced on a good day - dress for wind - walk from museum to NS is more likely to be 20min (instead of the 10min indicated), but well worth it. - Enkhuizen city is nice to explore

The visit is interesting and well organized, and the staff is extremely helpful. They were very nice with us after a problem with the tickets purchase. By the way, if you want to buy tickets online, I recommend to start the process one day in advance

An excellent open air museum focusing on what life used to be like in the fishing villages around what used to be the Zuiderzee (Southern Sea) but is now a lake called the IJsselmeer. Lots of buildings moved here from various villages, craft demonstrations, etc.

Is a very nice place, just like jump into 100 years ago fish village. The indoor museum is full of knowledge about this area and the outdoor museum just amazing. I spent 4 hours there and didn’t finish it just too big. But the traditional lunch set they sell on the website is 2 sandwiches and 1 bread with 1 banana and 1 apple juice, quantity and quaility is nice but I recommend just buy food when you arrive the restaurant

A fantastic huge museum. The indoor part has an audio guide and is very well made. Tells you stuff about fishing villages and how the sea became a lake, a lot of stuff for kids too. The outdoor part is a huge village, might need two days to actually cover it!

Really enjoyed this piece of old Holland brought back to life! Fascinating history of the area. It’s mainly outside so choose nice weather! Very tired feet afterwards, so proof of a great day out.

Very nice, well maintained and entertained open air museum providing a beautiful and engaging insight in life before the Afsluitdijk closed the Zuiderzee. You can easily spend half a day here if not longer, especially if you decide to pop into the inside section of the museum too (included in the price). If your legs still allow you, a walk through the city of Enkhuizen afterwards is certainly worth a visit too. All descriptions at the museum are provided in Dutch, English and German. Parking is possible just before the entry to the large dike that connects Enhuizen to Lelystad. A ferry takes you from the parking to the open air museum. In summary: excellent day trip for any local or foreigner interested in the topic!
