Vermeer is undoubtedly one of the greatest painters the world has ever known. The Vermeer Centre in Delft is not a museum in the strictest definition of the word. This institute chronicles his work and it is done in the most fascinating and systematic way. Whether or not you are a Vermeer fan it is absolutely recommended to visit and learn about his great work

We visited the day before going to The Hague where we saw Girl With a Pearl Earring. Great way to learn about Vermeer, including the history of art during his time, his use of light, his benefactor and financial history, and to see reproductions of his work. A couple interactive activities, too. Good gift shop. Lockers on ground floor.

I recommend the place for Vermeer lovers! this place exceeded my expectations!Copies of all his works are arranged in chronological order. One of the most important things in his art is the light. There is a very good demonstration of the use of light in his art!

Locate near a beautiful canal in the Delft center, it was established in 2007 with the purpose of celebrating the life and works of the greatest Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. The museum provides a unique experience about Vermeer’s most famous paintings, as well as interactive exhibits that offers insights into his artistic techniques and historical context in which he lived. The center also offers guided tour, workshops and educational programs for visitors in all ages. This is a must-visit for art enthusiasts and those interested in the rich cultural heritage of the NL.

Vermeer Centre is actually an information center acting as a museum and it is dedicated to the painter Johannes Vermeer. This place is not a museum, since it does not contain any original paintings. There are replicas or photos of original paintings, however, the exhibition provides insights on Vermeer's life and his working methods. You could enjoy audio tour available in several languages. There is a gift store at the ground floor. Building is children friendly, free of charge, highly recommended.

If you want to see Vermeer’s original works, this is NOT the place to visit. His works are at the Mauritshuis. This center has replicas of his existing works that can be viewed and, if you get the audio tour, you can get a few insights into the works. The center is child friendly and on my visit there were parents with children all enjoying the narrated your. The audio tour is available in Dutch, English, French, Spanish, German and Italian. There are mementos and books sold in the center. The exhibition takes up three floors. A very short film about him is on view and is in English and Dutch. It plays on a continuous loop. I recommend the part about his membership in the St Luke’s guild. It is interactive and you can listen to the members having a meeting.

If you want to know some really technical information about vermeer and the techniques he used this is a good place to go. Some of the interpretations that are posted along side some of the images of the paintings are presumptuous at a minimum.

Very interesting Museum (€9 student) :-) While the paintings displayed are not original (it would be impossible as they are spread around the world and worth a pretty penny), they are faithful reproductions in size and light. The audioguide then provides all the necessary details to understand more about Vermeer and his technique. Different floors have different themes: from the history and paintings, to the secret messages and meanings and then the modern day variations or restoration precess. So at the end I would definitely recommend this museum :-)

Highly recommend to visit. You will understand Vermeer better. Delft is a hometown of the artist. And in the museum you will find not his original artworks but all the explanations of his paintings.

I was genuinely surprised at how very much I enjoyed my visit! I recommended this centre to a friend who said "But it's all reproductions". Well - that really doesn't matter! The displays are excellent and you leave with a real feel of Vermeer's art and life in Delft. If you're there on a Sunday, I would highly recommend the free guided tour - our guide was knowledgeable and patient and she started outside, orientating us around some key sites in Vermeer's life. I would love to go back. Please note, the centre doesn't have a cafe but there are lots of alternatives locally, including at the site of Vermeer's birth a few doors down the Voldersgracht!

The ground floor is composed by almost every masterpiece that the great artist, Johannes Vermeer, designed during his life. Unfortunately there are only around 35 paintings attributed to this Dutch Golden Age and Baroque creator. What I really loved about this museum was the merging between technology and classic used to present the genius of Vermeer's work. There are screens in many places and an audio guide which is walking you throughout a beautiful journey about this painter.

Save your money for the two churches. Not friendly staff, whether you are Dutch or not. There is nothing from Vermeer’s works of art, just copies. If you want to know about Vermeer, all of this can be found online. It was way overpriced for what you get.

Only for Vermeer lovers. There isn't much to see at this place. In the basement there are replicas of all of his known paintings. That's the best part. First and second floor rather boring with little to see, some modern art. Audio tour in English is terrible. Very slow lector with strong Dutch accent.

Booked online but could probably have got tickets on the day as was not busy. Took audio guide which was easy to use. Spread over several floors with lift access. Takes you through the artists life and work. The exhibits are all reproductions which I knew in advance but were very well presented. The shop had large amount of souvenirs and prices were reasonable. Enjoyed very much.

Enlightening to see Vermeer’s creative process with their exhibits on the upper floors about light and the paints he used. Also fun to see how other artists copied his “Girl with the Pearl”.

This is a must if you´re into art history or into painting, even if you´re not into Vermeer (hopefully this is NOT the case). The old Painter´s Guild of Delft is pure history, a true mecca for painters, impossible not to share a tear or two while admiring it´s front or his historical inside. The house is in excellent condition and the presentations are packed with information and everything is historically accurate. Nice use of technology to display loads of information about the Guild, plenty to see. Vermeer Centrum is nothing less than amazing.

The outdoors tour is very good. Whilst I didn't have the opportunity of going inside the centre, the map-guided tour through Delft was extremely informative and gave me a fantastic insight into Vermeer's life, from his family all the way to how his widow had to settle a debt with a baker by giving him some paintings!

With the Rijksmuseum sold out, this choice is a no-brainer. I think that the overview presented here of all of Vermeer's paintings (reproductions) gives you a unique oeuvre total. On top, the second floor provides painting techniques, and the third is the concepts used and the included symbolism. That context is missing in Amsterdam. So good show and well done! Go and visit.

Must visit if you are in Delft. 12 eur and you get a free audioguide. Small place but after going through the entire journey here, you get to know more about Vermeer before you visit the Vermeer exhibition in Amsterdam!

Stopped by to get a break from the rain. No actual paintings. Just photos and a lot of background information and period pieces. Some were interesting, others not so much. There are audio guides available on request. There is also an interesting photo opportunity by the famous "Vermeer window". Lovely gift shop on the ground floor. Staff was friendly and accommodating. You will need to leave backpacks in a locker for extra €1.

There are no original artworks at Vermeer house museum but they have collected very good information and displayed it smartly. Everything is related to Vermeer. It is not commercial and shallow, it is very tastefully organized.

Very detailed exhibition of Vermeer's life and work. Beautifully and creatively displayed on 3 floors with audio guide. Unfortunately not one original painting

Very nice museum. No original paintings, but very informative about Vermeer and his different works of art. Also included works from other artists inspired by Vermeer.

Fascinating Museum that explains Vermeer"s techniques in great detail. The historical context and Vermeer's contemporaries are also explored so that you leave with a real understanding of his life and work. Highly recommended.

Must visit place in Delft, especially nice when it's raining outside. The museum is very interesting and informative. One can clearly see how many efforts and passion were put in it by it's creators. Here you'll find out a lot about Vermeer's life and art, about history of Delft etc. They have discounts for students and free audio guides, don't forget to take one!

  • 3/5 Joaz W. 2 years ago on Google
Pretty average museum. The paintings there are replica's/photos of the original paintings. Since there isn't much known of Vermeer, it's a lot of speculation. The upper floors offer more insight in the way Vermeer painted, which is very educational and nice to see.

  • 5/5 Wendy S. 2 years ago on Google
Great Vermeer experience all under one roof. Free audio tour with the entry price. The main attraction (copies of the paintings) are in the basement, so plan to spend most time there if you're short of time. Great shop too.

It was awesome ... staff was so friendly and passionate with the exibition... we got such nice insights about the paintings, how they were probably made, the time and Vermeer himself... loved it a lot and 10 times worth the mobey...

I recommend going in a group so that you have people with similar level of experience or at least people who know what to expect from you. The kart was in good conditio...
