Amazing place to visit, especially when the weather is good. A lot of old houses form Netherlands collected in one place, perfect to learn about Dutch history. Very kids friendly, with dedicated paly ground and tram line around the whole park. Located on the outskirts of Arnhem on the hills and surrounded by woods. Kind of a must-see in Netherlands.

This wonderful open air museum is a fascinating experience to be enjoyed. Be sure to start your trip with a ride on the tram so that you have an idea of what the museum has to offer. Each tram stop beings you to a different themed village. It is astonishing to see how the Netherlands have evolved over time and the way we live. There is so much detail given to the history of the buildings and the actors also help to enhance the overall experience. We unfortunately went on a very wet day so we did not see everything there was to offer. The facilities are great and clean. There are ramps for those in wheelchairs. There is a lovely gift shop at the entrance information centre.

It's huge. One day is not enough to experience it all. Tip: Make use of the train after experiencing each section to save on energy. Pick a few interesting parts within each section if you want to see it all in one day Tip 2: There are a lot of family oriented activities such as back to past dress-up photography. I enjoyed that. Tip 3: It's not busy at entry but I always find it handy to buy tickets online. Tip 4: Wear comfortable footwear. You will walk a lot. Adds to the fun though.

A nice way to get in touch with Dutch culture and look into the past. The museum is huge and you can spend the whole day there and still not have enough time see everything. It's a wonderful place for people of all ages and it is also pet friendly.

Very good museum giving you an idea of people living in Netherlands centuries ago. Diverse, bright, inviting, educative, interesting for all ages. There's a tram taking you around the territory with a few stops, very handy for elderly people or families with little kids.

The food and drinks are on the expensive side of the spectrum, but the view is amazing the staff is very friendly and I highly recommend this place during summer times when all the plants are blooming. Other than that it is a very informative place to have a little peek into history.

An absolute marvel! Great visitors centre, café staff and gift shop and that's before you become completely involved in the surroundings, trams buildings and history that exudes from every angle and exhibit. We could easily taken a second day and still enjoyed every minute, the literature doesn't do this wonderful place any justice, definitely one not to miss if you're going to Holland 🤗😜😍❤️🇳🇱

Awesome place to learn more about the Netherland, the history, culture and tradition, or just to stroll around enjoying the beautiful scenery. There are varieties of building, from windmills to houses that replicate certain era along with detailed explanation and activities inside. Me and family really love the experience of visiting this place multiple times.

If you want to see a different part of Dutch history this is a must see. Although it is a large property you can utilise the free hop on hop off tram to get to the various areas It stops at a number of platforms and there's no more than a 5 minute wait between trams. There are also plenty of facilities - toilets, restaurants - available as well. Great day out for all ages.

Very big museum that has houses, mills, shops transferred from all around of the Netherlands. All houses are carefully restored and interiors are furnished and decorated with the items contemporary to the buildings. I was impressed with still operating windmill that powers saws and produces lumber after 300 years. Ancient laundry that served Amsterdam and Harlem hundreds years ago gives a glimpse in the scalability of the washer machines. Old trams, some of them more than 100 years old run around museum. It's very convenient to travel around by tram because museum covers big territory. Tram depot is must see. Special thanks to all guides and people who work in the museum. You are special! The museum is popular, especially on the weekend. Parking is very big, but it was almost full by noon on Sunday. There is a playground for children. Sheeps and cows are lovely addition as well as huge fish in the ponds. Blueberry and apple pies in the entrance caffe are delicious. We spent 5 hours in the museum but saw about half of its territory. There will be definitely one more trip.

History buff? Architecture avectionado? Culture nerd? Go here. This open air museum give you a wonderful overview of the Netherlands history and context in one day in one setting. There is historical remaking of shoes, pottery, and cloth and so much more. It is great for the family or the individual history student. It's lots of fun.

It's really good to spend the day over there! We couldn't feel time passing by because it was so interesting! It's really good to understand a bit more about The Netherlands and a great place to bring the kids! Totally recommend it! The explanations about the economy situation and life condition during different periods is really helpful to bring you back in time and understand a bit what the population was experiencing back then

My favourite place in the Netherlands. I feel like a time traveller there. It takes too much time though, be prepared. You are allowed to bring food and have a picnic there, but the food is also not that expensive for a museum. The bakery is great and the pofferjetses are delicious.

We went to the Zomeravonden (in August) and it was great! You enter in the afternoon and still be able to visit most of the place. There is a tram that takes you around the park and there are events (for adult and children) and food festival scattered in four places around the museum. You can pay with cash or card in the food festival (no munten). It is definitely worth to visit and spend the rest of the afternoon and evening there (specially with the nice weather).

It didn't expect it to be so large and so rich of contents. From what I've seen from google, it seems like a fun destination. A destination where a family can enjoy together. Yes it is. But, it's much more than that. It basically tells you how Dutch people lived in the past, both the beauty and the ugliness. The sites are rather simple, but they tell the story well. Me and my wife always walk slowly in a museum to understand what is the story and what are the interesting facts. We always walk with google in our hand to understand the context. For this particular museum, it's exhausting and time consuming to do so since it's so large. So, go twice or thrice!

This was a nice visit but the buildings have all been closed. Sad to have found this out too late. The only restaurant open was the one in the main building. Still it was nice to have the information in English and German.

I could say its beautiful and very informative museum ! You will learned so many things specially the old history of the Netherlands from poor to rich country.I've learned about the Indonesian soldiers. Its just like you are really in old times ...very nice ! Its worth it to visit!

A very fun museum! We were very lucky with the amazing weather. It's a great place to peacefully walk around and learn about the old Dutch farms. They also show some old skills used back in the days. Enough eateries and places to have a drink. We were just a bit disappointed that they didn't sell big breads at the bakery, just small sweet cookies etc.

Amazing experience, the museum is quite big so you need at least 3 hours. There is a tram bringing you around the museum if you don’t feel like walking. The museum really brings you back in time, the details are amazing. You can then walk to the Burgers zoo, its a 10 minute walk. We combined both locations in 1 day, a lot of walking but definitely worth it.

(Translated by Google) Today with our family (4 adults) had a fantastic day at the museum. What struck us were the enthusiastic volunteers. The personal green tour by Monica gave our visit a very special meaning. Never knew how important the Waterberg is to the park. Also the nice Indian ladies who could explain so nicely about three generations of Indians in the Netherlands and the gentleman from the rope-maker who went to work for us at the end of the day. Thank you all very much! Fam. from Zutphen. Allen heel erg bedankt! Fam. uit Zutphen.

The museum is special and very fun to get around. Nice to walk around and get back in the tram. Except a playground in the middle there weren’t many activities for young ones. The guides and demonstrations are all in dutch so wouldn’t recommend for young kids from out of country.

Advantages: +A beautiful location. +Interesting and interactive content. +New information and immersion into the Dutch culture and history. +Really old buildings counting from the 16th century. +The main point - you get to see/touch/feel/smell a very old stuff, hear stories and explanations from Dutch people representing old denizens and wearing cultural clothes and clogs (klompen). Disadvantages: -Some buildings can be closed so you won’t be able to witness how a windmill turns grain into flour, for example. -A ticket is 19,50 euro for adults, for children it’s free. So get ready to meet a thousand kids at the museum. -Parking is not free! It’s 7 euro no matter how long you stay. This policy is bullsh*t because €20 for a ticket is already a lot.

A very nice experience to get an insight into Dutch culture and tradition. The museum open area is quite big but easy to navigate walking or taking the historical Tram. Many nice activities for children to enjoy and explore. Unfortunately as a foreigner it was impossible for me to enjoy the inside exposition, Canon van Nederland, as the English explanations were quite short and all interactive activities were only available in Dutch. The cafe inside, as well as other facilities for eating have a nice selection with reasonable prices.

Really great open air museum with beautiful buildings from around the Netherlands. Easy to understand signage if you only speak English or German. Lots of living history actors even on the quiet wet and cold day on which we went. The little themed shops to buy old fashioned goods in are my favourite and they even had one vegan option in the bakery!

Beautiful place with lots of amazing historucal builds from the Netherlands. It really feels like a town of its own. You can see animals walking around, there is a train that loops around the museum, many more smaller but equally as interesting objects and rich architecture. It is a really good place to just visit and walk around. Staff of the museum and the merchandise store are very polite and it was an amazing experience altogether. I would definitely recommend coming here on a nice day, even set up some small picnic if you can because the scenery is really aesthetically pleasant.

I was super lucky to catch this on a nice weather day! The place is huge and there is so much to see. I think I only actually saw 2% of it. I was with a group of people on a tour and the guide was very knowledgeable and really wanted us to understand what we were seeing. You really need to come a few times to see everything and it is definitely on my revisit list.

Fantastic museum that tells history of different parts of the Netherlands and across centuries. The museum is massive, it's a good idea to plan to spend an entire day here, be aware that it closes at 5pm. There's a large (paid) parking at the museum and there's a historical tram going around it all the time which makes it easier to move around without having to walk everywhere. I loved how the museum is divided into several sections and how the history related to the Dutch east indies is included in different parts of the museum. There's plenty of places to eat and drink. It's really nice that the places look very authentic and serve food relevant to the location, for example the museum has its own brewery and there's a cafe in a historical building that serves their beer. There's also a traditional bakery which also bakes their own bread and sells it. The best thing about this museum is that you have the feeling of living in the place and time - they have people working at different buildings (e.g. a blacksmith, mill worker) dressed according to the time and often showing a demo of the actual craft (e.g. producing oil from seed).

Overall we had a good experience while exploring the dutch culture. It seems more like a very small village where you could just walk into different old houses or factories and see how people used to live in the past. There is also a small tram that takes you around every 5 minutes. However, if you want to get into the tram, it's not allowed to have drinks on your hands. There are also some windmills which you can also go inside to check them out. I also liked a lot the fact that there were plenty of rest areas with coffee and snacks. Also the place with poffertjes is highly recommended.

This museum visit has truly been worth every penny. It's hands down the best money I've ever spent. The fact that there's a tram available makes it even better, ensuring that even those who struggle with walking can fully experience everything. It's not just a museum; it's an immense park where you can genuinely soak in the atmosphere of the Netherlands.

It's a must see. Very interesting place. Very well maintained. It took us around 3 hours to go around the park. You have the option to walk or else get the tram inside the museum. Coffee, ice cream and other food can be bought. Also noticed that it is dog friendly.

This is one of my favourite open air museums anywhere. If you do have friends and want to show them something about the Netherlands??, this is the place to go. The train ride is fantastic. Kids young and old will love it. The farmhouses are a bit worn out, but they are always adding new buildings. Some are even from the 20th century. The windmills are quite impressive. There is a town section with some lovely shops and restaurants. At least one of the churches is being used for actual weddings. It is, as they say in the Netherlands, goed Gelders.❤️❤️❤️

Very beautiful place, really nice experience for adults and kids. I've been there a lot as a kid, but I just went there again for the first time in around 10 to 15 years. If you have kids, I would definitely recommend, and even as an adult, if you're interested in the history of Holland and really getting that vibe of "back when", this is your place to go! Definitely going back!

Lovely place. It was really cold in December but they had fires added along the main ways so you could warm up your hands. There's a small train that can take you from many stops... We loved the old games in one of the barns. Very old fashion but great entertainment for kids and grown ups. Definitely worth a visit. The houses were really nice as the windmills and a lot was translated in English too. Very old fashion cottages etc.

  • 4/5 Roelie K. 3 years ago on Google

If you want to know how the Dutch lived and worked in the early 1900, beautiful how they basically picked up old houses, farms, factories and rebuild them back in this museum. Loads to do for the young ones (3-12) and for the adults loads to see.

This museum you can do in 1 day or less. It shows the way people used to live and the buildings of the Netherlands in the olden days. Information is in Dutch, English and German. Because of my roots I was also very interested in the Indo (eurasian) and Moluccan history that are part of the museum. It is definitely worth a visit if you stay a bit longer in the Netherlands.

Groot park, prachtige gebouwen, super enthousiaste medewerkers, mooi aangelegd. Horeca zeer middelmatig en duur.

Mehh... the buildings and grounds are actually pretty cool, but they haven't really done very much with it. To be fair some of the demonstrations were cancelled due to corona, but the ones that were there were pretty lame and uninspired. Lots of potential but very poor execution.

This is one the best museums to visit in the Netherlands. Offering an interactive look at dutch life and giving context to today’s culture. There are windmills, shops, a train, and building installations of a variety of eras and province’s that showcase a side of the Netherlands you don’t see anywhere else. There is even a little local brewery with their own beer. It’s a 💯 must see!

The Netherlands Open Air Museum consists of a huge landscape park with lots of historical buildings scattered around it. For photographers this is a place full of delights. When you love Vincent Van Gogh's paintings, here you can wander around in the 3D reality of the 'Potato-Eaters'. One is transported back in history, which has magically been reconstructed here in minute detail. The overall atmosphere is family-friendly, one will encounter intelligently thought out gags and all the volunteers love their jobs. Big fun together with amazing beauty!

Large museum site with good mix of indoor and outdoor spaces. The collection is of historic Dutch buildings, mainly of a rural origin. It's fascinating to see what things were like and how people lived. But as usual the highlights for our young children were the interactive parts: the apple syrup production, the steam engine in the dairy factory and the tram rides. In the future it would be nice to see more interactive parts, and also more urban buildings.

(Translated by Google) The Dutch Open Air Museum. Haven't you been there yet? Then you really can't. You go back in time in a completely unique way. What is immediately noticeable is that it is all recognition. You will find the memories of your visit to grandpa and grandma or your vaccination at the clinic here. You get on the tram and get dropped off somewhere. You can also walk everything, but a round in the tram will give you a good impression of the park and you can see a bit how you are going to do your route. You can definitely go here again. Fun for the whole family. Nice joke is to rotate the TBC house. #xanderbw (Original) Het Nederlands Openluchtmuseum. Ben je daar nog niet geweest? Dan kan eigenlijk niet hoor. A brief and detailed glimpse to the history of the Dutch people. This place has all the real 1:1 replicas of the houses, people lived in. Farmhouses, cheese factory, blacksmith and more. There are also live demos of actors which help to demonstrate the lifestyle that was back then. The place also has a small train which circles the whole park, and stops on each interest point, the children loved it. We spent here half a day, some people spend here almost the entire day, depends on the ages of the children. There is also a children’s place where the can run and climb, in front of it you can find a small restaurant which offers soups, beer, wine and more

A very nice outdoor museum divided into a couple of areas showcasing the history of how people used to live and work in the Netherlands. There are a couple of teams that you can take to travel around faster. There is a playground for the kids with a lot of things to do for them. There are a lot of eating and drinking options inside the park where most are located near the windmills, like the bakery, poffertjes or the French fries (3,50 without sauce). There are also some restaurants. The prices are reasonable compared to other museums we visited. We spent around 5 hours there and skipped some parts so there is a lot to see and walk in the park.

A must visit when in the Arnhem area! Fee free when you have a museum kaart. Make sure to visit the Zaanse area and grab a snack at the little bakery. Before you exit, visit the gift shop, they have a great selection of (Dutch) stuff. Tip: head to the brewery for a free sample and pick up some beer to take home. Check ArnhemLife for more info on Arnhem.

One of the best museums ever. So much thought involved, made really beautifully and you need a whole day for it. Entrance 21€, parking 7€. Closes relatively early (6 pm), so come at 10am. You really need the whole day.

Also die Wäsche gewaschen etc.

Kinder geeignet in jeder Hinsicht!
