Without any doubt I say that it is one of the most beautiful churches in Milan that deserves much more tourism than it already has! As soon as you enter the church, a very nice thing is that there are volunteers who give you minimal information about the church, even in English! It is absolutely worth at least half an hour to admire the various frescoes dating back to the 1600s. There is also a museum next door which is interesting

A beautiful church. The visit is well organized allowing only a few people in at a time to avoid crowding, allowing each person the time to enjoy the frescoes. Our wait wasn't long and it was certainly rewarded with stunning frescoes from the 16th century.

A church with amazingly beautiful frescoes over every inch of the place. There's a very valuable 16th century organ here too. A must see. And it's free entry.

A bit off the beaten path with few tourists, this church was was constructed in the 1500s. Originally a chapel in a convent, the church had evolved over time. Two interesting facets of this church that make it unique: it is divided in half, with one end for the cloistered nuns and the other for the others to both participate in church services; and the extensive and detailed frescos painted, describing the stories from the Bible as well as images of varied saints. Currently it is only open in the mornings on Fridays and the weekends. Green Pass/Vax card is rigorously checked at the entry.

This church is definitely a hidden gem to visit! It is totally free and I promise your eyes will be delighted, and probably won't know where to look, in front of the magnificence and the number of paintings all over the place. The church is separated in two rooms, one that used to be the public area, where every single inch of wall is painted, and one that used to be the hone of the nuns, and is more sober but still magnificent. It contains an organ, one of the rare painting representing god i have ever seen, and another last super fresco. I really recommend the detour, it's definitely worth it!!!

An absolute hidden gem! Free entrance. Beautiful frescoes from floor to ceiling. There is a separated room, the 'hall of nuns' at the back with more stunning artworks.

You must visit here when you visit Milan. Surprisingly, the admission is free! Also no lunch break. You can go anytime during the day. You see beautiful Fresco painting all over the church. I heard one of Leonard Da Vinci’s well-known disciples were one of the painters. Better than many other places I visited in Milan. The outside is not that outstanding so don’t miss it. Next to Archeology Museum.

This is one of the nicest Basilica’s in Milan, it’s stunning. The colonnades are gorgeous, the artwork, stone work and museum is beautiful. It’s fairly large with lots to see and do. The artwork, statues, artifacts and religious clothing is very well preserved and displayed. Its collection is impressive, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend checking out this Basilica, it’s a great place for families and children of all ages.

If you could not see Leonardo's Last Supper, this is a nice plan B (we could not, the they were selling tickets for August in May, all sold out... but you could buy online a guided tour for 200 euros... a scam really).

One of the great place which i visited in Italy and especially in Milan, when i was planning trip To Milan i was told there is not a lot to see, but when got here i was shocked with beauty of the city, there ara a lot sightseeing here. Now about this church, I accidentally found it when i with my friends walking in the streets and decided to go in, i was really amazed by the beauty of interior, so many paintings, so beautiful and interesting. So to cut a short, if you are in Milan you must go to this beautiful and interesting church.

This Benedictine monastery has the most beautiful church in the city of Milano. The murals decorated in the 16 th century with frescoes , cover walls and ceiling, the most important artwork in the church is the cycle of frescoes of the life of Saint Maurizio by Bernardino Lunini, an Adoration of the Magi by Antonio Campi and paintings by Giotto and Boticelli. Very unusual and most special religious temple

One of the most beautiful churches and monastery complex I have visited. Don't miss the hidden paths to other part f the church. And watch out when you pass near it because at first sight you will not even recognise it is a church. Its free of charge.

A piece of art. A peaceful place. There is a description for every picture on the wall. You need more than 1 hour to see everything

It looks like a small church but once you get in, all the paintings are just amazing. Definitely would recommend a visit! (Quality of the pictures not great, sorry!)

Absolutely breathtaking... The volunteer staff are very educated and knowledgeable about as well as happy to share... A local Italian suggested we visit this beautiful ancient church. Thank you Carlo!

It's been a very long time since I hadn't been moved like this by a church. Thank you so much, this is absolutely beautiful. A club of volunteers can do visits inside in italian and were very gentle with me. The entrance is free and all the frescoes are explained. A wonderful moment ! And so well hidden in Milano !

This is a beautiful church! The entire interior is filled with frescos painted by a Renaissance Lombardy painter. You could be here for an hour or more admiring. There's two sections in the church, a courtyard, and small museum attached. The entry to the church is free so walk on in and donate if you you'd like.

This place is a MUST GO for everyone. You do not need to be religious to appreciate the art on the walls. Amazing people working there as well.

Unassuming, somewhat anonymous appearance from the outside, however the interior is truly stunning and genuinely breathtaking.

This is a beautiful church. The art here is stunning, confusing, humorous, strange, and absolutely worth visiting. It covers every wall; whether or not you are religious, it will have you marvelling at the stories depicted in the murals.

This church is amazing! A masterpiece of the renaissance. One of its most brilliant artists is Bernardino Luini who was in contact with Leonardo da Vinci and inherited much of his influence. It is open to the public for FREE (with the green pass) only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The wow effect when entering in this church is thanks to a recent restoration All the volunteers are so kind and willing to tell you the secrets and stories behind the paintings. One of them told me that the Noe's Chest painting (you can find it in the second room, at the back) has 2 curiosities: 2 unicorns, and 3 dogs (one of them was the painter's dog!! hahahah). (I love the renaissance period and I am researching much of its legacy in Milan city. To visit Milan through this lens, see airbnb experiences)

Ever since that day I randomly walked in this church...Wow! My pure admiration. I often think of this church, still keep a brochure from my visit. Undoubtedly among one of the churches that impressed me the most.

A must in your visit through Milan. Is even more beautiful than the sixteen chapel. Is free, but leave a donation for the continuous restoration work and the volunteer whom are happy to explain about the church. 😍😍

We were guided by some old volunteers who had a lot of knowledge of the place. Great experience!

Chiesa di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore is an exquisite little church complex referred to as the Sistine Chapel of Milan. No prizes for guessing why. The frescoes are credited to student artists, chief among them Bernardo Luini, a student of Leonardo da Vinci.

The best of Milan's hidden gems. A must! No wonder why it's called Milan's Sistine Chapel

  • 5/5 Nia F. 6 years ago on Google
The frescoes in this church are simply beautiful. It is perplexing that this gem is free to enter and to walk around. They allow photography. It is nearly impossible to take in all of the incredible details in the frescoes. You will not regret a stop at this incredible Church.

Amazing and unbelievable beautiful! A big surprise in Milan. Worth the visit for sure! It's free but I would pay a ticket to see it, no doubt!

One of the best visits in Milano, the entrance is free, but i recomend to go at 10 in the morning, because there's a long line. You can also visit the museum with an entrance, but is not a must.

  • 2/5 Rexii O. 1 year ago on Google
I want to be nice here because it’s free. But the frescoes really have no artistic merit. Its like work done by the local high school art teacher, not Michaelangelo. I have to smile grimly st the reviewer who thought this was on power with the Sistine Chapel.
