This landmark is the most beautiful and recognizable one in Rome, Italy. Please book you ticket and slot beforehand. very busy but well controlled by the staff. you can reach easily by taking metro. its a symbol of ancient rome. Useful audio guide. All of the basics were included. You can get the overall picture about the Colosseum and it's history. Of course, priority entry line is also big benefit. Would definitely recommend. The Colosseum is more than just an ancient amphitheater built in the 1st century—it's a symbol of Rome. Naturally, it's one of the most popular monuments in town. The place is undeniably magnificent from the outside. Standing 160 feet tall and made of brick, concrete, and limestone, the Colosseum is an awe-inspiring testament to Roman building.

Great experience to see key Roman history. Once in your follow the flow of people throughout - starting with the arena (if booked) before then heading up steep stairs to an area with more information on the Coloseum’s history (architecture, seating areas, statues, etc.) There was also information and models of Trajan’s Column when we were there. After the exhibits can head to the interior for some great views and photographs from all sides. Signs throughout are in Italian, English, and Chinese. The free Rick Steves audio guide was very informative in setting the stage. Do buy timed tickets or a tour in advance as it can be sold out. They will then only let you in starting at the time (vigorous about not allowing you in early), and will compare to your IDs and do a bag check. It may look long but only took us about 10-15 minutes to enter. It is quite busy but are able to stop and read the signs or take photos. Benches are available to sit as part of the Arena tickets but otherwise minimal seating. There are lifts available to main areas so seemed pretty accessible. Toilets are on the ground floor about 25/50 meters inside. Women’s only has 7 stalls so expect a wait.

Amazing amazing amazing. I recommend doing a tour so you understand what you're looking at as you walk through it. Take your time inside and don't plan too many things on the day you come here. I was happy to pay for the tour guide we had.

Awesome place. It seems that you are inside a history book. There is a lot of information behind this monument that it really worth to book a guided tour as they will tell you the whole history behind it and also share details about the architecture, events that used to happen in the colosseum, gladiators among other important information related to all Rome Empires! I also went to Palatine and Roman Forum that is also a great visit. One recommendation is to take with you a bottle of water (there are fresh water fountains at the Platinum) and use comfortable shoes and clothes. I was there in April and it was about 24 Celsius degrees and it can be much hotter depending on the season.

Visited my first 7 wonders of the world with Crown Tours and it was a superb experience 👍🏻 Have always loved watching the Roman history shows and this was top of the list when we are planning our Europe trip - definitely worthwhile to get access to the Arena (maybe even the underground tour) if you are into history of the Colosseum! 🏟️ It was an eye opening experience stepping into the gladiator arena, imaging thousands of Romans looking down at you from the partially restored stadium, and actual gruesome fights taking place on the floor you stood on. Definitely a must visit from anywhere in the world given its rich history and status 👍🏻

We went July 18 and the temperature was 39.8 degrees. I recommend coming early in the morning. Our tour was 3 hours long and started at 9:15am. I recommend starting earlier. The Coliseum was great, there are many great things to looks at. Such an amazing piece of history. Recommend the guided tour as you get to learn so much more.

Beautiful place to visit, if you care for historical architecture. Unfortunately we didn’t get our tickets early enough to get the underground tour. But it was still very enjoyable. The museum/display on the top floor was very informative. And it looks as if they are still building it out. The restaurant right across the street are very convenient as well.

Great piece of history from the ancient Roman Empire. Highly recommend to use a tour guide as they will get you to the front of the queues and will give history as well. You should definitely stop in here if your are in Rome. I have been twice and still am in awe when I go. Out of season is best if you can do it less crowds and not hot.

A spectacular and monumental place. It’s the story before your eyes. There’s a lack of adjectives. Come in and take it easy. Photos are consequences of what you are able to see and imagine. The ticket is cheap and I recommend you choose the ticket that gives access to the galleries. Walk around and use the subway as a means of transport. And be sure to do the Palatine and the Roman Forum. I’ve been there twice and it’s worth every penny. The sunset here is beautiful.

A place worth visiting once in a lifetime. feels like going back 3000 years ago. very well maintained, and they do cool program for tourism. Buy tickets online to save time. Tickets can enter 3 locations close to each other, suitable for spending 1 day to visit and enjoy. marvel at the construction and design capabilities of the roman civilization. I'm not really happy about what happened here, in the past, but I have a lot of respect for history.

Beautiful place to visit, if you care for historical architecture. We visited the place in Mid August when the temperature was really high. But it was still very enjoyable. The museum/display on the top floor was very informative. And it looks as if they are still building it out. The restaurant right across the street are very convenient as well. Worlds largest amphitheatre and still remains the largest!!! Great view

One of my dreams come true !!! As you approach the Colosseum, its ancient grandeur rises before you, a mesmerizing symphony of weathered stones echoing centuries of history. The colossal amphitheater stands as a majestic testament to Rome's architectural prowess, its imposing arches and weathered facade whispering tales of gladiator contests and the roar of crowds. The sheer magnitude of its presence, set against the backdrop of the Eternal City, evokes a profound awe, making it impossible to escape the gravitational pull of its timeless beauty.

Generally crowded throughout the day. Especially due to guided tour groups. The inside is beautiful and I would recommend visiting it if you have enough time. A guided tour is perfect for those interested in history of the place. Otherwise a self guided tour works as well.

Historic and unbelievable place! A must go in Rome! Be aware to buy tickets in advance to avoid big queues and do not waste your time in Rome. If you are a history fan and would like to know all the details, buy the guided tour and if you are the type of person who just likes to visit the place and know some details, you can buy the ticket with audio and you can decide where you want to walk and how long to stay there.

A MUST-VISIT PLACE! Surely you've heard of the Colosseum in Rome: it is a fairly touristy place, and with reason! The Colosseum brings together an important part of the history of Rome, with an architecture so well preserved that it takes you back to the era of gladiators. The pictures don’t make it just, so you cannot leave the city without visiting!

What an awe-inspiring structure and historical location. We entered the Roman Forum and walked the “gladiators road” to The Colosseum. You can take a guided tour or walk through on your own, but either way, purchase tickets through the website in advance. We did enjoy having a guide who was knowledgeable about The Colosseum’s history and could explain many of the structural and historical pieces or answer questions. The entrance and ticket sales are limited, but it is still quite crowded inside, but there is also plenty of space through our space, and no one was rude during our experience. You can also walk around the outside and take in the view and surrounding monuments. If you are in Rome, this is a must-see, and I would suggest a walk through the Roman Forum as well. You really feel immersed in Roman history. Parking/Location: I am not sure of parking as we did not drive to the area, but there is a Metro and public transportation in the area. It is also walkable from the Roman Forum and other destinations in the area. If you find this helpful, please click the 👍 below and follow me for more.

This is a world treasure. To see something so old, so well engineered with such a rich history up close and personal is a gift. Not free to go inside, though! You can buy tickets on site to enter and look around there are exhibits with explanations that are helpful. Without any reservations, we showed up and approached by someone (there are many) who was arranging tours with licensed tour guides that had openings to fill due to cancellations. Ended up with Discover Rome tours. Waited 30 minutes and at a significantly reduced price, took a guided tour of 3 levels in the arena. A great guide who spend 1.5 hours with us giving a Fascinating tour! Don’t let “no tickets available” deter you. Lots of people were helped in the same way. (They take credit cards so you are protected! Do not miss this if you are on a “let’s look at piles of rocks” tour. It’s a good one!

Buy your tickets in advance! Better yet, book a guided tour. There is so much history here it is worth the extra cost to have a tour guide explain to you all the detailed history of this amazing landmark. Best to visit in the late evening when it is cooler. Also best to visit in the evening for photographs with the sunset casting shadows on all the many archways. A destination not to be missed when in Rome. Easily accessible from the Metro station located steps from the entrance.

Insanely atmospheric place. Being here, you immerse yourself in the era of gladiators, plebeians and patricians. Everything is organized at the highest level. The museum in the Coliseum is not bad enough. The possibility of choosing a guide (audio guide or human guide) is also pleasing. The audio guide system is simple and easy to use.

The Colosseum in Italy is a breathtaking marvel of ancient architecture, and it truly lives up to its reputation. Here are three things I absolutely loved: Historical Grandeur: The Colosseum's rich history is palpable as you walk through its ancient corridors. It's a mesmerizing journey back in time to the days of gladiators and grand spectacles. Architectural Splendor: The sheer size and scale of the Colosseum are awe-inspiring. The precision and engineering involved in its construction are a testament to the craftsmanship of the time. Spectacular Views: Climb to the upper levels for panoramic views of Rome. The scenery is nothing short of spectacular, offering a unique perspective of the city. Now, for the not-so-great aspects: Crowds: The Colosseum is understandably popular, which means large crowds. It can get incredibly crowded, making it a bit challenging to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Restoration Work: While necessary, the ongoing restoration work can sometimes detract from the full visual experience. Scaffolding and repair materials can be seen in certain areas. My suggestion: Consider booking a guided tour to bypass the lines and gain a deeper understanding of the history and architecture. Also, try to visit during off-peak hours for a more intimate experience. In the end, the Colosseum is an extraordinary testament to human achievement, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rome.

We were so lucky to get the underground tickets when we visited the Colosseum. We got to see more than the regular or arena floor ticket. We have to wait for the employee at the Colosseum to lead our group of visitors assigned to the same schedule. The group is about 15 people. The lady who led our group spoke good English and she was very informative about the history of the Colosseum. I enjoyed my visit to the Colosseum. Especially the underground tour is the best if you have the chance to get it. The underground tour includes visiting the arena floor and the regular sections for all the ticketed visitors.

What a magnificent piece of architecture. It is hard to belive that Romans created this masterpiece around 2000 years ago. I highly recommend the full experience underground guided tour which cost €31. The guided tour lasts for one hour and then you are free to roam around and explore it. If you book the tour online then you have to pay 2€ booking fee. I highly recommend tourists to visit the place at night to have some amazing photos 📷 from outside. The closing hours varies with season and is between 6:30pm - 7pm. A visit to Roam is incomplete without visiting the Colosseum. Highly recommended 👌

Unforgettable Experience at the Colosseum in Rome. My recent visit to the Colosseum was nothing short of extraordinary. The grandeur of this iconic landmark left me in awe, and the rich history that surrounds it is truly captivating. The architecture is impressive, and standing within those ancient walls transported me back in time. The guided tour provided fascinating insights, making the experience even more enriching. I highly recommend a visit to the Colosseum for anyone seeking a profound connection with Rome's remarkable past. An absolute must-see! Buy tickets in advance. Line are huge and you might not get tickets same day. With colosseum tickets you can also visit Roman forum.

It was much grander than I expected! One of the great marvels in history. I would recommend seeing it both at night and during the day. Looks much more magnificent at night. Must see when in Rome. Buy tickets ahead of time. Super hot so visit early in day, late afternoon, and avoid noon.

Have you ever seen true art in one place? The architectural aspects of the great builders really made some amazing structure here. There are many hidden interesting areas to look at, to see the past of this amazing place. The lines here weren't very long and were very fast to go inside. Took us around 10 minutes to get inside. I advise to buy tickets online this way your procedures are faster!

There are several ticket options. You can even buy tickets to get to the arena. The standard ticket allows you to the permanent exhibition on the second floor and first and second floors of the Coliseum. Which was honestly enough to see everything worth seeing. You can see hallways, stage, arena and the labyrinth. Other parts of the building are closed, so basically you can see everything with the standard ticket. Definitely worth seeing. A lot of groups creating lines to get inside and crowds inside of the exhibition so you will have to fight your way to the exhibition items. If you purchase individual tickets then you will enter the coliseum through the separate entrance which doesn’t have lines. Better to buy tickets in advance as they can be sold out quickly.

The visit to the Colosseum was great for me. It is definitely a significant historical site and a wonder of the world. Thinking of the century when this was built and the way it’s been maintained over the years, despite the scarcity of the material needed to maintain it. Unfortunately I could not get in this time due to unavailability of ticket as I didn’t buy in advance but it’s a definite revisit for me. I totally recommend!💯

Visited the Colosseum in Rome, a remarkable testament to Roman engineering and architecture. Built in 70-80 AD, this iconic amphitheatre once hosted gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. Now, it attracts over 6 million visitors annually. Standing amidst these ancient ruins, you feel a deep connection to history. Highly recommended for its awe-inspiring structure and historical significance. A must-visit!

Absolutely mesmerizing.. a part of history comes alive at this place. Visiting the Colosseum, was actually living , seeing and experiencing the texts books and history attached to it. Thus so far, I had only read and heard about this iconic structure , however seeing it with my eyes was something entirely different and awe- inspiring. We had a guide as we had to scrounge for last minute tickets, and I have to admit, the guide we had was a professor in architectural history, retelling the history as it unfolded with immense knowledge, precision and passion. His expertise rendered the entire experience even more valuable and interesting than it already was..:) and were we not glad!!! The place is very very busy with hordes of crowd, nevertheless very well- managed. The beauty of the structure is that even on an extremely hot August afternoon( we entered the Colosseum at 2 pm) the place is very well ventilated. Such was the mastery in the creation and construction of this building. Most of all, we visited both during the day and night . At night, the building looks stunning and worth a visit..an absolute must when in Roma. I definitely would like to add that Roma is not , not , not , not unsafe. They have their special force in service everywhere, protecting , guiding and taking care for the citizenry and tourists. It’s a wonderful place to visit and once in a life time experiences

The architecture of this place is just amazing. It’s so surreal being there towards the end of the day because it’s a lot less crowded and the sun is almost setting. I would 110% recommend visiting if you are nearby. If you plan to visit then do so early morning or in the evening just before closing time. It’s a lot nicer at those times to avoid crowds.

It is as amazing as you thought it would be. Definitely by tickets in advance and if you can afford skip the line, do it. Getting in and through security takes a while. I took a tour including the gladiator entrance and don't recommend it. It's cool to see but the view isn't so different from above. The tour affirmed that the movies usually did a good job of depicting history. I didn't know ahead of time that the second floor was full of information and displays. It's interesting and you can pick and choose what is interesting for you. It can get hot, a lot of people brought fans and umbrellas. There is a bathroom outside after you leave. It cost a Euro to use and unless you really have to go, I do not recommend it.

Buy your tickets in advance and go as early as possible to avoid long queue lines. I would suggest paying the money for a semi private or private tour and include all the options. The tour can last 3-4 hours or longer depending on the options you choose. 100% worth doing and would do it all over again. You learn so much. Just be aware it is very crowded and the queues can be hours long. Hence going as early as possible with a guide.

The ultimate Roman masterpiece! Well preserved and well presented. Tickets must be booked in advance from official site. Google map location search too will direct you to official site. You can walk along the route mentioned, experience and exit. There is an audio/video guide which can be purchased on site with an additional cost of EUR 6.00. However, it has only overall details like history, construction, gladiators etc. no point to point guiding and explanation relevant to each point. There is an underground section below arena. To visit it needs a full experience ticket which I could not find in the web site at a glance. Rome has all the systems in place to do things easy. But there are no proper explanations on the web sites or people concerned. All attractive looks like taken over by guided tour operators who charge significantly high prices. All attractions in Rome, book online in advance to avoid disappointment.

It's still a work in progress. But Oh my what an impressive piece of history. Take a guided tour. There are many guides signing up outside and they definitely earn the fee. We used Infinity tours and Maria was very knowledgeable and has been doing it for many, 25 years, I think.

Such wonderful and rich history to see when visiting. Our guide was quite lovely, and gave us some fantastic information. Unfortunately it was pouring rain when we visited the night tour, but still incredibly worth it. The stormy weather added a layer of ambiance to our tour. Absolutely would recommend to anyone that loves history

This was a bucket list item of mine, and although we arrived too late in the day to visit, it was still amazing to visit at night. The shear size of it is something to see. To hear the history of what occurred, there is equally amazing. The Metro station was nearby, so it's easily accessible. A quick hop on and hop off had you in multiple places in the city. A visit here at sunset makes for a lighter crowd and some great pictures.

Worth a visit at night time and day time! Buy your tickets in advance using the skip the line option to save waiting. Incredible amount to see on the way around once inside. It’s absolutely amazing! The toilet facilities were not great for ladies or gents, sure this is down to the shear volume of people using them though. Lots more to see in the surrounding area.

I have little I can say about a place as historic as this other than the following that isn't to say, GO. I did not enjoy my trip to Italy. However, there were a few places that have the most impact to me. This Colosseum was one of the few that made my trip have highlights. First, the entertainment at the front was amazing and worth the tip we gave them. It really did allow us to have a fun time to kill before our tour. The upkeep of this place is phenomenal and deserves to be recognized. The views from the top are great. For a bit more money you can get a more detailed tour. Plus having visited a place with such history is something I'm not sure anyone could regret.

The underground Colosseum experience with the tour guide is extraordinary! We can never imagine the underground world of the Colosseum, and where the gladiators prepared, where the animals were in cage to be brought upstairs. All the special scenery that they prepared, as fighting on the water with special scenery with boats etc etc ... The tour guide is really so professional, and she explained everything to us and answered a lot of our questions. It is really a special experience that I hope all of you can try it.

Like many people, this is easily one of the top things on everyone's list when visiting Rome. I must say the Colosseum did not disappoint. I did a tour and learned so much about the gladiators and the brutal fighting in that arena. There is so much history here and it is just impressive looking at it. I saw the one in Verona as well and, I was told, the one is Verona still has much of its original structure. I liked it but the Colosseum is still more impressive. This was a sight of major entertainment during one of the most famous empires in history. This is not an overrated attraction. Yes, the vendors and crowds can be annoying, but it is worth visiting. It does not disappoint.

Well what can I say this is just one amazing place to visit everywhere you look there is the wonderful ruins of the Ancient Roman history.....The Colosseum was built in 70-80 AD,the construction was led by the Emperor Vespasian which started in 69-79 AD & completed by Titus in 79-81 AD.....As you walk around the atmosphere is absolutely amazing you can images all the Roman gladiators fighting for their survival & the crowds cheering in the excitement..There are so many wonderful ruins to see sadly we never had time to explore them all will definitely be going back & spending a bit more time....This historic City is a must see on your bucket list...👍

Obviously a must see when in Rome. In fact, it's hard to avoid. What is the best part of it? Let me rank it with the respective prices: 1. The outside: complete free. Clearly, the Colosseum is most beautiful and impressive when seen from the outside. Get up close, completely for free. Walk around it. Just marvelous. 2. Underground guided tour. If you get the combination ticket for the Colosseum and the Forum (valid 48 hours), then consider adding a 10 Euro guided tour. Definitely worth it. 3. The exhibition on other uses of the Colosseum in the medieval times. This only requires an entry ticket to the Colosseum and it is completely fascinating.

Great place to visit with a nice history behind all of it. Nice opportunity to be able to view fragments of old buildings and ruins around here. The Colosseum itself is beautiful. It’s under reconstruction but still is a sight to behold and worth the visit. Overall easy to spend the day here. Just beware of street vendors trying to make you buy overpriced items.

This was one of my highlights from the trip to Italy. I would go there again, if I am in Rome. Also recommend a guided tour, surely worth it. There’s so much history in this arena that you will only be in awe. We got the floor access pass. If you are able, then try to get the lower level pass as well. They are limited but you will really be glad you got a chance to view it up close.

Incredible historical experience. I arrived at 10am on a weekday at the end of September and the queue was already 3hrs long. Luckily I was able to purchase a guided tour for 50 EUR (cheaper than the available advance tickets online which were at least 70 EUR) from a guy selling them to people waiting in line. I waited about an hour for the tour to start at around 11:40am. I would recommend, if you are organised, to book an entry ticket about a month in advance as these are only 18 EUR. You can get an audio tour for an additional 5 EUR. If you want a guided tour, I'd also recommend booking far in advance as you can probably find good deals on Get Your Guide.

I would give 10 to the place itself, however it is too crowded even though we didn’t visit at a peak time which makes not having the experience you would expect. I definitely recommend buying tickets online (from official website) in advance if you are visiting it by yourself and not with a guided tour otherwise there is a line which delays you at least for 1 hour. The surrounding historical sites are huge and you can easily get overwhelmed, so if possible I would suggest, dedicate 2 days if you wanna see all the places, they sell a 2 days ticket which is a bit more expensive but includes everything.

This was by far my favourite experience in Rome so far. If you love history, then this is a must. We had a great tour guide Maria Luisa and spent a good amount of time in the colloseum, the Roman forum and palatine hill. You have to go here!

Coming to Rome, this is a must visit place, beautiful historical place. Looks nice if it's raining and beautiful if the weather is clear. Recommend to book the tickets online due to COVID-19 to avoid any unnecessary delays ( sometimes the tickets box offices are close), and many unofficial sellers will offer tickets with higher price. If you are traveling with a toddler, I recommend to have the baby carrier better than stroller as the ground is not wheels friendly.

Must see if you come to Rome! Wear some sturdy walking shoes since you’ll be doing a ton of walking. I would recommend reserving a tour through the Colosseum or a private one. It’s much better when information is supplemented to what you’re seeing. Got to tour the underground tunnels also but wasn’t really worth it.

It's an amazing construction that will make you think and feel a bit like a Roman. There are some maintenance happening, but from what I've seen it's going on for a long time now and should continue. Other than that it's what you expect and have seen in pictures. Of course I recommend going there personally just to try and tune with the old times. But be careful with the restaurants outside that will overcharge you. Specially with the drinks.

Visiting the Colosseum was an experience that left me awestruck! As I walked through the massive stone arches and stood on the grounds where gladiators once fought, I couldn't help but feel transported back in time to ancient Rome. The architectural beauty of the Colosseum is truly remarkable. Its grandeur and scale are a testament to the engineering genius of the Romans. Exploring the different levels and imagining the roar of the crowd gave me a sense of the vibrant energy that once filled this iconic amphitheater. Google Maps was incredibly helpful in navigating to the Colosseum, and the entrance was well signposted. The surrounding area is bustling with activity and offers a variety of food stalls, souvenir shops, and cafes, making it a convenient and enjoyable visit. Inside the Colosseum, I highly recommend opting for a guided tour. The knowledgeable guides provide fascinating insights into the history and significance of this ancient marvel. Learning about the gladiatorial battles and the lives of the spectators added a layer of depth to my experience. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes, as there is a fair amount of walking involved. Exploring the underground chambers and the arena floor provides a unique perspective and allows you to appreciate the architectural details up close. Overall, the Colosseum is an absolute must-visit for anyone with an interest in history. Its timeless beauty and historical significance make it a UNESCO World Heritage site that should not be missed. My visit left me with unforgettable memories, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have experienced this remarkable wonder of the ancient world.

Came here in July with a tour group. We wanted to to the underground but it sells out very quickly. We chose to do a group tour guide as we wanted to lean as much as we could. Plus there are so many companies that offer audio tours its really affordable (less than 20 euro usually). Be aware during peak season it is hot and crowded so be patient and prepared. Bring your water and curiosity. We completed the tour and had time to just wonder. Its wild to think of everything that took place here. There's not much that is "interactive" versus a regular museum so unless you're really interested in touring I'd say opt to focus on the exterior grounds. The ticket prices for a larger group can quickly add up. On the flip side if yu can book the night underground do it! Overall, an iconic place to absorb how truly ancient the city is and how intertwined the history is in every inch of the city: its culture, architecture, and energy.

Second times there, many changes in almost 10 years due to restoration of the exterior and creating a floor on the arena. Go by the morning (9:00AM) for a much better experience as you’ll be alone and enjoy your time and the view without the crowds and all groups, also to take nice pictures by the way.. Have fun and book your ticket before you go !

You absolutely have to go here. I'd suggest ordering the tickets online a day or two in advance and just going your own slow guided tour. After that you can check our YouTube and find some real nice virtual tours you can do that night. Highly recommend. Also consider the Roman forum as well as watching the gladiator movie which is very satisfying as usual lol

Still the one must see place in Rome. Just way more crowded. Joining a tour saves some time, but plan on waiting in line at least 30 minutes. I see no point visiting the lowest level under the floor, which I did many years ago. You should go upstairs and walk around to get a better perspective.

Well what can I say, it is magnificent! You can sit there for hours and just look at it, amazed by it. About the interior it is nothing extra really but worth a visit once. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance, this way you can avoid standing in the queue for 2-3 hours (literally). If you would like to take good photos, there is a great spot from the Forum right opposite of Colosseum.

This was an amazing experience. If you are in Rome you have to visit the Colosseum. There is no question why it is one of the seven wonders of the world. The architecture is incredible. When I visited I was part of a guided tour so I had no wait time, however the line seemed very long especially in the hot sun. I see no point visiting the lowest level under the floor anymore, which I did many years ago. You should go upstairs and walk around to get a better perspective.

The Colosseum is built of travertine limestone, tuff, and brick-faced concrete. The Colosseum could hold an estimated 50,000 to 80,000 spectators at various points of its history over the centuries, having an average audience of some 65,000; it was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles (for only a short time as the hypogeum was soon filled in with mechanisms to support the other activities), animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Roman mythology. The building ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine.

Stunning and as always crazy busy spot in the heart of Rome. Tickets to visit this tourist attraction cost around €20 per person per day (including the nearest Roman Forum and Palatine Hill). Only one ticket office is open so be aware of queues. Also, be extra careful of people wearing professionally looking black clothing, claiming they are tour guides selling group tickets - these guys are scammers.

How can you hate on the Colosseum in central Rome, the Flavian Amphitheater? It’s a world-renowned historical-architectural masterpiece. The Romans used to enjoy quite brutal games here, including re-enactments of famous battles and also skirmishes with exotic beasts. It amazingly only took 8 years to complete this beautiful and gigantic building, the work of engineers, architects, quarry-men, and slaves. It’s nice to book a tour in advance to help you navigate the chaos of the experience and provide historical context. I’d suggest also bringing your own water and snacks along, as they tend to price gouge around huge tourist attractions. Other than that, enjoy it, you never know when you’ll be back!

It is the Colosseum so it is always going to be a "must-see" place for visitors in Roma. The facilities for the visitors have improved quite a bit over time and the panels with explanations about life during the Roman Empire (and beyond) are very informative. There is good signage all around and the platform with access to the arena is a great feature. Easily accessible through the subway, I highly recommend buying tickets in advance.

The pictures speak for themselves. Absolutely incredible historical landmark to visit. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior. I had a wonderful guide and I highly recommend going with a guided tour. There is a water fountain with good water pressure near the entrance, and there are two floors that a normal entry ticket will enable you to view. The underground level requires a full experience pass and guide.

The Colosseum….. what a spectacular structure and is something everyone really must go to see. This is a very special piece of history that even in its semi ruined state it is incredibly well preserved. On the day of our visit there was no tickets available to go inside which for me was a great disappointment however, taking the time to walk the perimeter, sitting and looking from various positions whilst the sun set certainly left me feeling quite satisfied. Tickets to go inside are an absolute must for me the next time I am in Rome. It’s typically busy around the Colosseum but there’s plenty of space and the crowds are peaceful. Visit the official website for tickets and more about its history but in between times, hopefully these photos will whet your appetite to visit this amazing place.

Title: The Colosseum - A Timeless Marvel of Ancient Rome! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Colosseum stands as an awe-inspiring testament to the grandeur and engineering prowess of ancient Rome. From the moment you set eyes on its colossal stone arches, you're transported back in time to an era of gladiatorial combat and grand spectacles. Stepping inside, you're struck by the sheer scale of the amphitheater. The magnitude of its construction is nothing short of staggering. Imagining the events that once unfolded here is a humbling experience. The Colosseum's architecture is a triumph of innovation, with tiered seating providing a view for thousands. The underground chambers, where gladiators and animals awaited their fates, add a haunting depth to the experience. As you walk the same grounds where emperors and citizens once gathered, you can feel the weight of history. The preservation efforts are commendable, allowing visitors to appreciate the Colosseum in its full splendor. Surrounding the Colosseum is the vibrant heart of Rome, with the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill just a stone's throw away. The area teems with layers of ancient history waiting to be uncovered. Visiting the Colosseum is a pilgrimage for history enthusiasts and a profound experience for all. It's a journey through time, an encounter with the ancient world, and a testament to the enduring legacy of Rome. An absolute must-see for anyone fortunate enough to stand in its shadow.

This is definitely worth seeing on a trip to Rome, but in my opinion, it is pretty overrated. There's isn't much to see on the inside a after the first 5 minutes or so. Some of the old artifacts are cool to see but a lot of them are replicas anyways. I recommend going as early as possible in the morning.

"The Colosseum in Italy stands as a remarkable marvel of ancient architecture, and it undeniably lives up to its historical renown. There are three key elements that left a lasting impression: 1. Historical Grandeur: As one traverses the Colosseum's venerable corridors, the weight of its history is palpable, offering a mesmerizing journey back to the era of gladiators and grand spectacles. 2. Architectural Splendor: The sheer scale and precision of the Colosseum's construction are awe-inspiring, bearing testimony to the exceptional craftsmanship of its time. 3. Spectacular Views: Ascending to the upper levels reveals panoramic vistas of Rome, delivering an unparalleled perspective of the city's landscape. However, there are certain drawbacks to consider: 1. Crowds: Given its deserved popularity, the Colosseum can become overwhelmingly crowded, potentially limiting the depth of one's immersion in the experience. 2. Restoration Work: Necessary restoration efforts, while commendable, can sometimes detract from the visual splendor, as scaffolding and repair materials are visible in certain areas. A practical recommendation would be to explore guided tour options to circumvent the crowds and gain a more profound understanding of the historical and architectural context. Additionally, planning visits during off-peak hours can provide a more intimate encounter. In conclusion, the Colosseum remains an extraordinary testament to human achievement, and I wholeheartedly endorse it to anyone visiting Rome."

If you’re in Rome! You are to see the colosseum for sure! Its just a great place to watch and experience, I advise on visiting it with a tour guide, you will get to understand every little peace of history behind it if you are interested in details, there are so much details to this place than just the look of it! For pictures you need to visit it in both the morning and the evening! The pictures in the evening are so beautiful! The lights they have set up on it makes it look even more beautiful! So 1- Get a tour guide and 2- go visit it in the evening

    The Colosseum or Coliseum also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium; Italian: Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo, is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome,  Built of travertine limestone, tuff (volcanic rock), and brick-faced concrete, it was the largest amphitheatre ever built at the time and held 50,000 to 80,000 spectators. The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum. Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in AD 72 and was completed in AD 80 under his successor and heir, Titus.Further modifications were made during the reign of Domitian (81–96).These three emperors are known as the Flavian dynasty, and the amphitheatre was named in Latin for its association with their family name (Flavius).

I purchased the afternoon ticket which is a third cheaper than the full day one, just to find out once I got there that is a very limited entry, I thought it was just limited times. I was very disappointed had I known this I would have happily pay the full price for full access. You are not even allowed to use the toilets with the afternoon ticket!!! This was not clearly specified in the official website. The site itself from the outside is breathtaking, one of the most impressive monuments I've ever seen, just wish I didn't bother getting any tickets

Great architecture but pain full history. We have read this in old history chapter and feel when we are in the Colosseum. Though it was a game and please get entertain. It is use in history book cover page. Lots of construction is going on to maintain this architecture and it make dusty environment. It looks beautiful in night so try to visit twice.

Make the ticket online or forget to be able to enter... Too many immigrants outside selling you umbrellas or hats or cold water...the police tries to send them away knowing that they will return...immigrants that try to steal stuff... Horrible administration for a place like that... Visit Rome during the winter...too hot

Incredible piece of history and architecture. Certainly worth taking a guided tour to avoid queues and fully immerse yourself in the days of gone. Although well worth just having a walk round at your own leisure also. Plenty of places to eat at reasonable prices around the area to absorb the full beauty of the colosseum and surrounding attractions for all their glory.

The most Famous Monument in the "Eternal City". Il Colosseo (Colosseum) is the biggest Amphitheater ever constructed in Rome and undoubtedly the most important symbol of the Roman Empire. Inaugurated in 80 AD, the 50,000-seat Colosseum was the city's great gladiatorial arena and the most thrilling of Rome's ancient sights. Take your time and enjoy your visit.

The guide tours are somewhat confusing and I cant say if paying for a tour really helps or just means you give them free money. The inside of the colosseum has plenty of historic pieces and you’ll enjoy it if you’re a history bluff.

Coliseum is a masterpiece of the ancient architecture. This building is a manifestation of the advancement of ancient Roman architecture. At the same time, Coliseum was a cultural center attracting people from different parts of Rome and the Mediterranean. In fact, it was a cultural center of the ancient world that made Coliseum important not only from artistic but also cultural point of view. Coliseum was the entertainment center of the Roman Empire. Coliseum was one of the most important architectural works of ancient Rome, which played an important cultural, social and political role in Rome. Coliseum was a truly colossal work of ancient architects, who had managed to create a masterpiece using resources and technologies available to ancient Romans. At the same time, Coliseum mirrored not only technological achievements of ancient Romans but also cultural traditions, norms and standards of ancient Roman society. Coliseum was an epical building, which construction had started during the rule of Vespasian and was accomplished under the rule of his son, Titus, who honored his father on organizing the games in Coliseum, the largest amphitheater of the Roman Empire. The history of the construction of Coliseum is very important because this amphitheater was constructed by Roman empires to demonstrate their power, the greatness of Rome, and their devotedness to traditional Roman values. In this respect, it is worth mentioning the fact that Romans had always been concerned with entertainments and amphitheaters where gladiators fought and various, often bloodthirsty, performances were organized, including symbolic naval battles. In such a way, Coliseum became a public place where Roman emperors such as Titus could demonstrate their love to Roman people and show their goodness. On the other hand, in actuality, Coliseum was a sort of public place where Roman emperors could shape their positive public image because, if they attended Coliseum, they hold the central place in the whatever performance was organized. It was the Roman Emperor who took decisions in the amphitheater concerning the life and death of gladiators, for instance, but he did it in response to the will of the public. In such a way, supporting the public opinion or taking decision that are positively accepted by the public, Roman emperors could have improve their public image and demonstrate what good emperors and wise rulers they were. Remarkably, Coliseum was constructed under two Roman emperors from Flavian dynasty. In such a way, Coliseum had become a symbol of their power (Claridge, 310). The construction of the amphitheater was very important from the political and social point of view because the public believed that the construction of the amphitheater is the manifestation of respect to Roman people, their needs and wants from the part of the emperor. In such a way, Titus, who accomplished the construction of Coliseum, used the amphitheater to promote himself and to impress the public with the greatness of his dynasty and his own rule because he organized one of the most remarkable, memorable and great shows which the Roman Empire had ever known . On analyzing the form of Coliseum, it should be said that it differs consistently from other buildings of ancient Rome. Coliseum is the building that has an oval form. The oval arena is located in the center of Coliseum, whereas the entire building is comprised with a complex system of arches in the three-floor arcades. Each of the arches in the second and third-floor arcades framed statues, which were probably dedicated to ancient Roman deities. In this regard, the religious theme comprises an integral part of the architectural structure of Coliseum. At the same time, sacred elements in Coliseum are rather decorations than true symbols of worshiping Roman gods.

It is a magnificent structure that just boggles the mind. It's depressing to think how many lives were lost in the arena back in the day, and the cost in human lives of the Christians that were persecuted by the Romans.

A must visit place in Rome! One cannot help but to be in awe of the magnificent history and the architecture. However, be careful about the guide. We didn’t have good guide, which was a drawback. Further, the ticketing and pricing system is confusing. You need special tickets to visit the “inner” ground and underground floors.

  • 5/5 Michael D. 2 years ago on Google
You're in Rome, you're visiting the Colosseum - it is truly an ancient wonder. It's a wonder really that anything remains of this structure, in the past it wasn't valued for anything more than building material and much of it was hauled away to other building projects throughout the city and beyond. When we were visiting much restoration work was happening which is great to see, perhaps a thousand years from now there will be a Colosseum for tourists to visit. Hire a knowledgeable tour guide ahead of your visit with good reviews, it is well worth it.

The most impressive ancient construction I've ever seen! Even by taking in consideration that the ancient Romans were famous builders, it's almost unbelievable how they built such an amphitheatre 2000 years ago! It's a must see of Rome, to me it's the first place to visit even more because it's such a grandiose symbol of the unveiling decadence of a crumbling empire.

Who could say anything bad about the world famous Colosseum? Great experience, you see it from the street while driving. Public transport goes right up to it. Access is easy. These days you can only buy tickets online, so don't miss out...

Awesome place to sniff up the culture, fast moving line. Did order it online on the official website and the line was fast. Second entry fast line. Security and QR code ready and enjoy the beautiful story and historical site. On the second floor you have displays of artifacts and cool facts about the colosseum!

Excellent landmark. Definitely must go. I would advise a tour with a historian for a greater understanding and a good time. A massive point of history, changed many times over the years and a must go

A must visit in Rome. Keep aside at least 3-4 hours to fully appreciate the beauty of this architectural marvel. You can opt for guided tours as well. Around sunset the Colosseum looks absolutely gorgeous and is perfect for pictures.

It's an experience. I expected a bit more written info for tourists about what they are seeing. The museum-like part, situated on the second floor, is interesting and gives you a better perspective on what you are seeing. The guards are polite and helpful.

Must see. Best enjoyed during weekdays to avoid the crowds. Take your time to read through the history of the place thanks to info plaques displayed on the internal walls. Pro tip: Hire a guide to enrich your experience or download the guided tour mobile app if you happen to have headphones.

Be sure to book everything in advance otherwise almost impossible to get in. The Colosseum is a stunning testament to Rome's grand past. Its grandeur and well-preserved state transport you back to the era of gladiatorial contests. Despite the crowds, the experience is worthwhile. Knowledgeable guides enrich the visit with vivid historical insights. A must-see for any traveler. Highly recommended!

A true colossal experience! So much history to take in so spend as much time as you can here. The day we visited the General Admission ticket line was a two hour wait, so best get tickets online or through a tour group. There are many independent tour groups outside the gates that offer ‘skip the line’ tours. These are also a great option.

Underground tour was the best. Highly recommended, only with a tour guide. 3 hour tour included the hill and the forum. Wear comfortable walking shoes, hat, and bring water bottles that can be filled along the way many times for free. Must be booked far in advance. If not, line can be hours long. We went in with no wait with the tour guide.

Obviously very amazing. Best advice is to book tickets well in advance (7-10 days). AVOID ALL PEOPLE TRYING TO SELL YOU SHORTCUTS, ITS A RIP OFF. If you dont buy in advance expect about a 1hr wait to buy tickets during peak season (June-Sept). Inside is pretty amazing. Not personally overwhelming but real beautiful and worth the cost and perhaps once in a lifetime experience.

Amazingly historic structure with no negotiation! Booking ticket ahead of time and get a parking somewhere around unless you use public transportation! there before 8:30 am otherwise half a day will be gone easily. Being knowledgeable about facility is great, but having a leader during the visit is recommended if you want to spend more than 2 – 3 hours in Colosseum. Just a few minutes’ walk to Roman Forum and the most beautiful scenery was to watch the whole facility in the King’s location. Enjoy Gladiator Movie Sceneries!

Great place that is full of history. We were very early on the first Sunday of the month so entrance was for free, but then you need to wait for a long time to enter (like 3-4 hours) because it is unbelievably busy. Though it was surely worth it. Very unique and great!

My party and I did a small group tour of the Colosseum and Roman forum with Arena Floor Access. Roman Vacations with Mitch being our tour guide were our hosts. Mitch was amazing and very knowledgeable. Tour felt personalized based on recommendations of what would be better to see on the palatine hill and saw some really neat things. Tour was definitely worth it. Roman Vacations and Mitch being our guide, would 100% recommend this tour! Make sure to ask for Mitch!!! 😁

Absolute must see while visiting Rome. This monument is truly unique and seeing it in person is an amazing experience. I highly recommend to buy tickets in advance, otherwise you will be waiting in a line to get in for hours (the same applies almost for all attractions in Rome/Vatican). Big plus is fountain with drinking water inside the Colosseum. Be prepared to spend here around an hour (or more if you prefer to enjoy it to the fullest).

There truly is nothing out there quite like this beautiful piece of engineering. It is amazing they were able to build something of this size at the time, and portion of it still standing like it does! This truly is something that has to be seen with your own eyes

If you are at all interested in the history of the "old world" then this is the place to visit. Incredible piece of an ancient world that existed a very long time ago. Thank you Italy for preserving clues to such a remarkable civilization. We paid for a tour so we didn't have to wait in the lines to get into these places, they were very busy even at the end of the season.

We recommend taking a guided tour. We were able to get so much information from our wonderful guide, that we would have otherwise missed out on. Well worth the little bit extra that we paid and it saved us precious time, from waiting in a ticket line too. The Colleseum and Roman Forum were such an incredible and humbling place to visit. Definitely an experience we will never forget.

The Colosseum is incredible. Book way in advance. Go earlier in the morning. An incredible piece of antiquity and amazing it was ever built let alone last so long having nearly been completely stripped for materials over the centuries. We went during September and even though visitor numbers are controlled by forcing you to book a tour group, it was still very packed!

  • 5/5 ilana 5 months ago on Google
Incredible experience. Worth the wait, but definitely recommend buying tickets in advance as we waited for 3 hours to get one and then had to wait another hour for our time slot. We went late afternoon which I think is the best time as it was less busy and the sun started setting!

The most iconic symbol of ancient Rome, on a rainy day of November 2023, the reason I came to Rome mainly to see this in situ. I was amazed by the size and the architecture of this magnificent amphitheater, which could hold up to 80,000 spectators in its heyday. I learned about the history and the culture of the Roman Empire, as well as the gladiatorial games and the public spectacles that took place here. I also enjoyed the views of the surrounding monuments, such as the Arch of Constantine and the Palatine Hill. The Colosseum is a must-see attraction for anyone who loves history and art. It is well-preserved and well-managed, with informative signs and audio guides. The entrance fee is 16 euros, but it also includes access to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Museum. I recommend booking online in advance to avoid the long queues. The best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the crowds are smaller and the light is softer. I wish to come again, of course, next to get inside. The Colosseum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of the eternal city. It is a place where you can feel the glory and the tragedy of the ancient world, and appreciate the beauty and the genius of the Roman civilization. It is definitely worth a visit!

Perhaps the top historical site to visit in Rome, beautiful and magnificent both from outside and inside. If you want to get inside you should book your ticket in advance to avoid big queues. Even if you don't buy the ticket with special access to the arena, you will have beautiful panoramic views of the whole building. It is worth visiting it once in a lifetime.

  • 5/5 Hayley J. 4 months ago on Google
I didnt got inside as it was really hard to get a ticket. Make sure you have the ticket in advance. The line for the ticket you need to buy at the front was way too long.looking at the amazing historical place from outside is still good enough.

  • 5/5 Ed E. 4 months ago on Google
Simply incredible! Be prepared to walk up and down a lot of stairs. NOTE: The line when we arrived was SUPER long. Make sure you ask one of the attendants at the entrance which line you should be in otherwise you're burning time. Also, it's HIGHLY recommended that you purchase tickets online so you don't waste even more time standing in line.

Absolutely breathtaking! Would recommend buying tickets in advance, as there was a long line in front. However, we got in after maybe 10 minutes of waiting, as we booked our tickets online the day before. The place is beautiful, rich with history, has several souvenir/book shops, and an elevator in case you have a stroller or are a wheelchair user. Highly recommend visiting, together with the Roman Forum, it will take your breath away.

Absolutely amazing. I can't stop taking pictures and videos but the result is not as breath taking as the real thing. You really need to see it yourself to understand. It's really crowded in the afternoon, so i advise you to come in the morning with less people. Buying tickets in advance is also better. I got the underground tour as well, and it was a great experience. Though the tour guide is not that helpful.

We had a great time visiting the monument. We did a small group tour which is a bit expensive but highly recommended since you can really understand the history of the places and the stories around it. It definitely was more impressive than I thought it would be.

One of the places that you have to visit in Rome, it is absolutely magnificent. I’d remove one star because it was pretty crowded and there was a lot of sellers trying to sell their tickets left and right. I’d recommend buying the tickets from the official website because it is cheaper and get the audiobook online or grab a small book. Don’t fall for tourist traps.

One of the most interesting and beautiful places in Rome. Worth visiting! Definitely buy tickets in advance 2-5 days before your visit. You can buy them at the colosseum but you will probably wait 1+ hours. The prices will most likely be around 18 Euro for an adult (26+ years old), and there is a discounted ticket which is for those that are 18-25 years old, it costs 4-8 Euro. People below 18 go free, you just have to bring ID or passport. Overall visit if you can!
