Arlington National Cemetery is the sacred resting place for those 400,000 veterans who gave ultimate sacrifice for the country. Veterans of all major wars fought by United States are buried here, including two US Presidents. There is lots of walking involved in the cemetery sprawled in 620 acres. Please wear good walking shoes. Alternatively, you can take a tram tour with historical interpretation. This was the home of the George Washington’s family before. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is very moving marble memorial and one of the highlights of the cemetery. The Changing of the Guards take place every half an hour here which is a sobering experience. There is a grave site of President John F Kennedy here. The Memorial of Arboretum is very beautiful with green gardens. There is so much to see here so it is advisable to plan your trip in advance and decide what do you want to see. Every US citizen must visit here and honor our heroes.

What can I say that has not been said. As a veteran I had tears in my eyes watching the changing of the guard. This place represents so much more than a place to bury the dead. Each military member can sacrifice their life in their course of duty and it affects alll those close to that person. To lay down your life is the ultimate sacrifice. I give thanks to those that died for our freedom and their family. The grounds are immaculate. The memorials are moving. General Lees home was interesting. It was nice to take the tram that you can hop off as long as you please and just catch the next one. This place must be explored so allow plenty of time to visit. And the next time you meet a service person thank them for their service. Arlington is a must see when visiting Washington D.C.

A beautiful place to visit with over 400,000 tombs for mostly American veterans and soldiers, but there are also a few presidents, Supreme Court Justices, and James Parks, the first keeper of the grounds. It is rather hilly and possible to walk, but there is also the option to pay $20 (adult price) for a trolley tour (the trolleys are covered on rainy days) around the cemetery with 3 hop-on, hop-off destinations at the Kennedy Grave, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the Lee-Custis Mansion (known for the panoramic view). These buses run every 15 minutes. The changing of the guard occurs at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It is a delight to watch and occurs on the top of the hour during off-seasons (winter) and every half hour during the summers. There is a nice visitor center with a security check at the gate. One can buy trolley tickets there and also read more history and use the very nice restrooms. To get here, one can drive and park in the lot for ~$3/hour or take the Blue line to the Arlington Cemetery stop.

Somber yet awe-inspiring place to visit. It reminds you not only of our history as a country, but also all those whose lives it has taken to have our country. There is parking on-site. It is $3 an hour with a max of $12. It is also super easy to take the Metro and walk there. We recommend the trolley system for getting around Arlington unless you have wonderful shoes, good health and a lot of time. You are able to get on and off at some of the different spots. But you also may not see everything you want that that either. There were restrooms at every spot we stopped in the trolley. There are funerals and services held most days so be aware that areas may be closed off and be respectful of those who may be grieving. Also as with most things in the DC area, be prepared to go through security upon arrival.

Great place to visit. Parking is easy, 3 dollars per hour, plenty of spots available. Walking is very nice. There's construction going on now so some roads and walk ways are closed but still very nice!

What an honorable place to visit. This was our first time at the cemetery and I must say we were all impressed. Very well kept, beautiful grounds filled with such rich history. We were hesitant as we were travelling with smaller children and were not exposed to death, funerals, cemeteries etc, as of yet but it turned into a wonderful history lesson. We were impressed how respectful they were. Wanted to read the names of the soldiers, wars fought in etc. Definitely can spend more than half the day walking through everything but well worth your time. A must of the changing of the guard which is indeed every half hour. The unknown buried soldier, so much to see. Make sure you pick up a map of the grounds. Bring a reusable water bottle if you are visiting in the summer. Many water filling stations. Comfortable shoes, and a phone or camera to take photos. It it a huge place, you can take a tour with a guide which will only get you to "the major must things to see" but you can do a self guided tour if you have read up on some or have knowledge of American history, otherwise there is a tram (trolley) that takes you through the cemetery but again to the "main spots". No amount of pictures can do this wonderful place justice. Highly recommended.

Inspiring. A treasure. Beautifully maintained. you could send a day there it’s so large and so peaceful even with all the tourists. A must visit- lots of walking but in my pinion the only way to truly admire this place. Don’t just go to Kennedy grave and the unknown soldier although a definite must so much more there.

Arlington National Cemetery is a powerful place. I am proud of my father who rests here now after living an incredible life. Mom's ashes were placed in the ground with my father's ashes a couple of days ago with those who loved her attending. The staff of ANC are loving, respectful and peaceful humans. If you go on a tour in of Arlington National Cemetery, perhaps you will feel the incredible power of this place. This experience is one of those which creates a positive feeling of being an American. Five stars. Go for a walk there in silence.

This is truly hallowed ground...didn't appreciate it until I had a relative buried here...it's well maintained and has fantastic history associated with it. Make sure you visit the two president that are buried here (yes there are two!), visit Lee House and an absolute must is the Tomb of the Unknowns (try and catch it at the changing of the guard). Please show respect and reverence...those who rest here have earned it.

As a vet, walking through Arlington feels like walking through hallowed ground. The cemetery is kept in immaculate condition and the staff were very professional. The tours were informative, and noteworthy locations are easy to find and access. Make sure you're wearing comfortable shoes for the considerable walking you'll do, and respect this place and those who rest here.

Veterans Day 2021 We were blessed to be able honor those who have been willing to, and those who have given their last full measure of devotion. No greater love has mankind than this. The staff are kind and courteous. The grounds are immaculate. I recommend that every American visit.

A very moving place. You can park in visitor center for $3 an hour or $12 for all day. The tram will get you though the cemetery in about 30-35 min but was cheap. Just for husband and I not including children was $40. We walked. We saw JFK'S sight with the eternal flame. The tobm of the unknown soldier. It was a nice walk with gentle slopes. Beautiful cemetery and must see.

Wonderful place to visit. It was very humbling to get a glimpse of the lives that have been sacrificed. Very humbling and inspiring. The grounds are immaculate and the guards are very efficient.

Beautiful and sacred grounds. I recommend the tram tour, that’s the best way to see and hear all that you need to know. I was most looking forward to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the changing of the guard. Absolutely did not disappoint. I’d recommend arriving early as it will get crowded. Also please remember that it is an active cemetery. There were 26 funerals the day of our visit.

A must visit while visiting D.C. to pay respect to the too many fallen and our great leaders. Also pay your respects to the many slaves that worked this property while owned by Robert E Lee. I hope the same karma finds another certain traitor/cult leader.

Even if you do not have loved ones burried here, it is an amazing place to visit. Unfortunately I forgot my mask so I couldn't go in the main visitor center, but I did take a 2 mile walk around the cemetery. The parking garage costs $3 per hour, so keep that in mind. We arrived kind of late in the afternoon and we were looking for my great great grandfather, but unfortunately they were working on the roads in front of his section so we were unable to see his grave. They also have maps located around the cemetery or you can use their free app to see the map or look up specific graves. I will definitely be back to check out the other parts of the cemetery I was unable to see.

A beautiful memorial to our service men and women on hollowed and sacred ground. It’s an honor to witness the changing of the guard and seeing them to their work. The amphitheater that is adjacent to the tomb area is as beautiful as the tomb itself. Really worth while to come by the cemetery and see the changing of the guard. They have a trolley here that you can take with a tour guide to learn more about the cemetery. There are many memorials here like the JFK memorial. Many beautiful designs and architecture and history to learn. Plan a trip out here and prepare for a bit of walking unless you take the trolley.

Visiting Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day was an experience that left me deeply moved and forever grateful for the sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women. The hallowed grounds and the solemn atmosphere were a fitting tribute to those who have given their lives in service to our country. First and foremost, the logistics of getting to the cemetery were well-managed. The proximity to Washington D.C., made it easily accessible, and public transportation options were plentiful. The signage and directions within the cemetery were clear, ensuring that visitors could navigate their way around without any difficulties. Upon entering the grounds, I was struck by the sheer magnitude and immaculate maintenance of the cemetery. The rows upon rows of perfectly aligned white tombstones stood as a poignant reminder of the countless lives lost. The peacefulness and serenity enveloped the area, allowing for reflection and contemplation. In conclusion, visiting Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day was an incredibly meaningful and humbling experience. It served as a stark reminder of the price of freedom and a testament to the bravery of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I left with a renewed appreciation for our country's heroes and a deep sense of gratitude. I highly recommend visiting this sacred site to pay your respects and honor those who have given their lives for our nation.

Humbling to say the least. I had a great experience here seeing all the memorials and just the sheer volume of grave sites. And absolute must do is the changing of the guard. Watching the amount of effort that goes into the execution and level of care is just one of the most awesome things you can witness. I would absolutely recommend making the stop and paying respects to those who gave their lives protecting our freedoms.

A visit to the national cemetery is a must for every American. We took our kids there today and explored the grounds for a few hours. The number of military buried there is incredible. The grounds are beautifully maintained. Highly recommended for everyone to visit at least once.

Sobering. A place for reflection of the sacrifices made to make our nation what it is. The price of Freedom isn't free. If visiting Arlington doesn't make that obvious, nothing will.

I think this venue is perfect. Free parking (I think this was a special occasion) and admission. Excellent scene from arlington house, and very informative museums. I was also impressed how humble JFK’s grave was.

It’s an experience… it’s history. Many profound statements engraved…I can go on and on but it’s definitely meant for everyone to make this visit along with the African American Museum.

A wonderful place to visit. My last visit was more than 30 years ago. I visited with my youngest son and wife who had never been here before. I had not seen the memorial to those who died aboard the USS Maine. My great grandfather worked on raising the Maine after it was sunk. That, along with the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier were highlights for us.

Nice place to visit in Arlington. You can do the trolley tour that costs 20 dollars per adult, but good to have it to explore the whole cemetery as it's quite large. Also, stop by the Arlington House inside the cemetery to get the spectacular view of Washington DC.

All gave some, some gave all. At least once in a lifetime visit. This is United States military cemetery for the honored service members that have valiantly service our country. It was my honor to visit and it’s awe inspiring. All the men and women that fought for our freedoms. The operation is very organized and staffed with great people. The changing of the guard is a memorable experience. Great place to take your family.

Emotional place, lots of families there. We were able to see the Changing of The Guard. It’s as big as you can see on the map.. literally, is huge and it will take you around 2hrs. Long walks, with hills and more hills. It’s not a place that I’m thinking to come back, but for sure I d take the tram with a price of ($20 ea, if I don’t remember wrong)

The sheer scale of this place is staggering, you’ll need a full day if you’re planning on seeing it all and I would recommend a tour if you’re wanting to cover the whole area. The people who work here are incredibly knowledgeable and only to happy to answer any questions you may have. The Tomb of the Unknown Solider and the Eternal Flame are within walking distance of one another and worth seeing. The discipline of the Honour Guards is similar to the Kings Guard in London, well drilled and definitely an experience to watch them changed over. Arlington Cemetery is an extraordinary sight and the effort and passion that clearly goes in to maintain it is commendable.

Cemetery is beautiful! Changing of the guard happened every hour, and there was a playing of taps. General Colin Powell, former Chairman of the JCOS and Secretary of State was not buried in a huge grave or memorial. He was with his soldiers all the way at the front of the cemetery in a modest grave. That’s true leadership.

This was an absolutely harrowing, humbling place and I think everyone should come at least once in their lives. Its like walking through a time machine and the river Styx at the same time. You will feel something here 100%

There is parking on-site. It is $3 an hour with a max of $12. there is a lot of walking so bring your walking shoes. There were restrooms at every spot we stopped in the trolley. Beautiful grounds, free parking on site and displays in the visitor center and bathrooms. Get a tour or do some walking! Definitely Worth the visit.

Always an amazing, humbling and emotional event. Brought my family over the memorial day weekend for their first time and they could not have been more thankful for the opportunity. Trace Adkins was there as well and was the nicest, most patriotic human I have met. Laying flowers and showing respect at the Tomb of the Unknown was the highlight of our visit. All of the staff and volunteers made it a great experience. Show up early for a quieter time but they won't let you park before 0800 so plan to sit in line to park for a bit if you come prior to 0800.

Incredible place! So many emotions as you drive through. Looking at how many people have given their lives for our country. I would definitely recommend stopping by.

We visited over the holiday season 2021 / 2022. Arlington is a must if you're planning your visit to DC. Be sure to pack a good pair of walking shoes, because there's ALOT of walking. This is one of the most moving stops we had while in the area.

  • 5/5 Anoop C. 9 months ago on Google
This was a very deeply moving experience but it is also an important one. It is a place to honor those who have served the country, and a place to reflect on the meaning of sacrifice. It also makes us think about the cost of conflict across the world. The cemetery is large, and you might want to take your time walking around and visiting the different gravesites. There are also ticketed trolley tours which saves you from the summer heat. We visited the tomb of the unknown soldier and were able to watch the change of guard ceremony, which takes place every hour on the hour or half hour depending on day of year. There are water refill station at the visitor center, but no other food options.

  • 5/5 Jo E. 10 months ago on Google
I do recommend getting the paid bus tour. It's a lot of walking otherwise and if you're a tourist you're likely going to be at your walking max. Visiting the day before memorial day provides the opportunity to participate in laying flowers at the tomb of the unknown soldier and throughout the cemetery which was a beautiful thing.

Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 2,500 locations across the United States, at sea, and abroad. The most iconic one is our famous Arlington National Cemetery, a sacred resting place for those 400,000 veterans who gave their ultimate sacrifice for freedom. For the last few years, our family has participated in the wreath-laying to remember our fallen heroes and teach our children the value of freedom.

I don't necessarily think it's fair to be able to rate the Arlington National Cemetery. In my opinion, if you are visiting Washington DC, then this is a must. It's an extraordinary monument to the men and women who helped build and protect this country. We had the lucky timing to catch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and that was a very somber experience and I'm glad I got to see it.

  • 5/5 Danielle P. 1 year ago on Google
This cemetery was just amazingly beautiful. I wanted to come here for a while now and am glad I did pay a visit. It is such a breathtaking view to walk through the grounds and see and honor all these memories of the brave souls who fought for all of us. You will have to see for yourself. And I love how the cemetery is taken care of really well!

  • 5/5 Desiree S. 1 year ago on Google
What a wonderful experience! We took our sons, 17 & 18. It was such a great opportunity for them to truly realize the history of our armed forces and their sacrifices. The changing of the guard in conjunction with the history and donations from other countries. over the years, really brought home that we aren’t alone in our losses and our pain. Beautiful tribute! We were truly surprised by how clean everything was. The headstones were immaculate! Even the oldest ones! Also was truly humbled at the amount of reverence in a place that had THOUSANDS of tourists! There were 24 funerals that day. Amazing to watch that kind of reverence in a tourist spot. Our tour guide, Beverly, was outstanding! She was kind, knowledgeable, and you could tell she really enjoyed her job. My husband and I both ran into her separately at the end of the day and discovered we had both told her what an amazing job she had done. Truly appreciate her!
