I have been going there for years. Always great service although I feel sometimes they just follow what I say without much input to tell me what I might consider as a better/different option. Just this week i wish I had been braver for a more distinct hair colour which everyone has told me is hardly noticeable. The experience is always great in terms of being comfortable and friendly staff, I actually had the most fun time I have had at a hairdresser this week with Hugh who was professional but also great conversation which sort of went outside of the usual chit chat expected at a hairdresser! Great debating about life while my hair was looked after. The only thing I've noticed over the years is that clearly some staff members don't get on with each other - it happens in any job but perhaps could be less obvious at times! All in all, always happy when I go there, and I would definitely recommend that place.

David took his time after i told him the haircut i wanted and it looked perfect. Incredibly good job, I am thankful that he works there!!!!!

Hugh is amazing and spends time to find out what you need and want. Making sure you are happy with the work to be done. He is funny and chatty -which I love! ❤️ he has managed to get my hairstyle just the way I like it. I recommend him to anyone!! 🌸🌈🙌

I had the the privilege of Both Hugo(colouring) & Nicki Cutting/ styling my hair today. Absolutely love my cut and colour! I’m currently travelling AUSTRALIA and seriously highly recommend Cut Above Salon. The shop is split in two.. barbershop one side ,salon the other. So catering for both guys and gals! Had my hair done a few weeks ago by Rachel and she did a fantastic job, still looks and feels amazing. After neglecting my hair for so long I'm glad I went in and to top it off, I had been wanting my curtain bangs back but a few times in the past (a few other salons) would say don't get it due to having curly hair, and I'd just say ok. Well, not Rachel. She was like absolutely can have them and mate, I have missed them soo much, big difference. Thank You! So yes definitely recommend. Knowledgeable, professional and comfortable 👌

Firstly I apologise to the staff and customers, for my behaviour. I was very emotional, angry and felt worse about my appearance than when I arrived. I informed the stylist i had just come out of a long depressive episode, and wanted to look and feel better about myself. He told me "good for you... trust me" This review concerns a hair.stylist by the name of Hugh. I do not recommend this person if you have any social and emotional experiences. This person was so arrogant, rude and dismissive. He spent approx 15 minutes with me. He spent the consult, belittling, embarrassing and insulting the 2 young apprentices. Did not give a damn about me. I arrived with long drab hair, 20 minutes later i left with a short, very little styled hair cut.I can not fault the apprentices or other staff. From what I observed they were professionals, and thoughtful. The reception guy was very lovely, understandingly and patient.i was offered no fee,but a did request to pay for the apprentices time. So please Cut Above, send this person to learn about Trauma informed Care, mental health first aid. Your profession is a pivotal part of peoples emotional and physical well being as well as our recovery from low self esteem.

5 plus stars - I’m a visitor to Darwin and was in desperate need of a hairdresser which can be scary when you don’t know anyone. Well I read the reviews of Cut Above Salon Gateway and walked in and an appointment was made for this morning. Hugo was the stylist and he was an interesting guy with lots interesting life stories. We shared a familiarity with old times living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. My foils, colour, cut and blow dry not forgetting the great head massage. Thanks Hugo I’m very very happy and my husband is impressed also.Highly recommend Hugo! Thankyou again Hugo…

Rachel was amazing. She listened to everything I wanted and even gave me pointers on what would look best, she kept the conversation flowing and offered me nothing but the best service. I will definitely will be back and going straight to Rachel!

Went in for a haircut and the so called stylist gave me bangs and that is NOT what I asked for. As I have had bad haircuts before I started to cry and she didn’t ask me what was wrong she just kept cutting it wasn’t until my friend said why is she crying for them to actually stop her from cutting my hair even more it will take 2 months for it to grow out

First time here. I attended my daughters appointment and thought I might a well get a haircut while waiting for her. I couldn't believe I only had to pay $40 for a head and facial shave and a tidy up of the beard. I'll be back again. Awesome service, friendly staff, and great prices. Look at the haircut. I love the shine, too. Hehe! Update: I went back again for the exact same thing: a head shave, facial shave, and a tidy up of the beard. (NOT MUCH HAIR AT ALL) Only this time I was smacked with an $89 bill. Nearly bit my tongue clean OFF! So, I am changing my 5 star rating to 3 stars. I thought I had found my new home.

I gave my husband a 50 dollar receipt for my hair and he hit the roof. Great "trim". I'm 80 and have very little hair but no shampoo/blow dry. It's a rip off, go somewhere else next time . Men 20% discount and they were having "styles". We know the tourists have gone. Not good enough.

My 15 year old was upset that the hairdresser she had yesterday cut off way more than she had asked for in getting a trim. She felt she was very specific in what she wanted for her hair cut. Not sure of the hairdresser’s name. It was definitely more than a trim. I was there at the same time and had Hugo. I would highly recommend him as he is excellent at colouring and cutting and nice to chat to. Listens to what you want for hair.

I went in for a huge change today and got the lovely Joanna, she went above and beyond to ensure I got the right cut for my hair type and was genuinely the most loveliest person! I will definitely be back to see her! Thank you Joanna!!
