Another Diamond in the rough!! Big's BBQ was great! The taste and tenderness of the ribs I ordered was wonderful! My tastebuds we very satified. I was also able to sample the burnt ends from the brisket they had smoking in the back. Mmmm, it just melts in your mouth. I had a chance to meet the proprietor of this establishment, Jimmie. He also serves craft and domestic beers on tap. I also have to mention the host, Mr. Chadwick, who gave me a little history on the building and the process of becoming a dine-in restaurant. This place is nice. Please, get over to this restaurant if you are a BBQ lover like me. You won't be disappointed!

Great BBQ joint. Nothing fancy, but food is great, BBQ sauce is delicious, staff are awesome, and the beer variety they brew in house is delicious as well. Stumbled into this place on vacation and will be back again before I leave in 4 days, for sure. Highly recommend trying this if you are in the area and enjoy BBQ. They allow you to add thick cut slabs of bacon to any dish for a couple of bucks. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Stopping here made my day.

The Octoberfest beer was great. All the food we had was great as well. Wish I had a place like this closer to me. I made it back to Iowa and had to come here for lunch again. Pulled pork was awesome as was the IPA.

This was the BEST little barbecue place! I felt like I went to a friend’s house for dinner - the service was amazing, brisket was tender and flavorful, and the collard greens and applesauce were SO good. We ate outside and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon date. Get the root beer float for dessert - it was the best root beer float I think I’ve ever had in my life. The food is an incredible value for the price. Bonus: rainbow friendly atmosphere in small town Iowa. Thanks!

Wow. This was wonderful. My friend had the burnt ends. They were excellent (he didn't let me sample so you'll have to trust me that my friend has good taste). I had Texas Twinkies for appetizer. Ooooh. Bacon wrapped around cheese. Mmm. I had the brisket sandwich with the house made potato salad and the house made coleslaw. The slaw was creamy but not drippy. Little bit of pepper. Very tasty. It made the meal healthy ;) Potato salad was also wonderful. Now to the brisket... smaller sandwich but the brisket was crisscrossed layered on. That was really good. Can't wait to try the burnt ends my friend had. Beers. We had flights Munich Heller, Yaller, Emo GRRL, Irish Stout. I liked the Munich and Irish best. Our host and owner Jimmy is very knowledgeable about beers and origins of them. He brews their beers and his wife does the smoking. He takes older beer recipes and revives them. Very interesting to talk to about this. Very cool he's there to chat with people. Makes it very friendly. The restaurant is an old home in Mount Vernon so that gives it an extra cool "flavor". Next time I'll have to take the wife...

It was good. It wasn't great. Meat was tasty, too heavily spiced for my taste. Got ribs to go, so not worth it. They were super tough, not much meat on them. Looked like folks were enjoying the beer to be sure, and the dining area was busy so I assume they were enjoying what they were eating Have been in other times and got more palatable food.

Wow- a MUST stop! The coolest place. It’s a house redone into a brew and BBQ, people still live upstairs!! Great good, awesome beers, good prices, down to earth fun wait staff... place is a dream! Worth a special trip for sure!!

One of the best places I ate on a road trip though IA. Great ambience, small on the inside, but with outdoor seating. Friendly waitress who helped me navigate the menu. And the food is hot, fresh and the taste is spot-on. The baked beans were packed with flavor and not overly sweet and coleslaw also very good. Brisket was very good.

Great food and great service. Jimmy made it very enjoyable for us. The burnt ends melt in your mouth and the brisket was very tender as well. If homemade potato salad, coleslaw and cornbread or to your liking, this is your place. They also had a homemade root beer which was excellent. And they have a number of home brewed beers. My wife tried one and a small glass and she loved it.

Great food in a historic house! Everything was awesome except the sandwich buns. They were kind of dry. Lots of butter and toasting the buns would be nice. Smoked brownies were very good. Real Mexican Coke in a bottle was a wonderful surprise. We’ll be back!

The food was great. The bbq sauce is a must. I should have asked if they sold the sauce so I can take it home and share it with the family. The homemade root beer was sweet but I loved it. I will be back.

Liked it, didn't love it. Road trip with my sister & aunt. My sister really liked her ribs. Brisket wasn't as flavorful as some places. Burnt ends were very good. Pulled pork was ok. Baked beans were excellent. Potato salad was good, some would probably like it even more than I did. Corn bread was pretty good. BBQ sauce was different from any I've ever had & was pretty good. Would probably repeat if it was local to me rather than a 75 minute drive.

Awesome BBQ, have eaten here numerous times and love it! Had the burnt ends yesterday and one of their own crafted beers for lunch. Incredible flavor and so tender I grew up in Kansas City with good bbq all over town, and Bigs is right there with the best of them Try it once and you’ll agree that the place is great

A couple friends and I met up here recently to play some board games and eat here for the first time. The food was exceptional and the space is absolutely gorgeous. The staff was super attentive and friendly (big shout-out to Regine (spelling?)). We'll definitely be back!

This was a favorite part of our vacation. Delicious! The brisket, the rodeo sandwich... it was all really good.

Small, cozy atmosphere with attentive service and homemade food. We tried a variety of items including brisket chili, burnt ends, cornbread, coleslaw, applesauce and collard greens. Really loved their cherry crisp. Beer selection was good and they canned one I liked for me!

We went to Bigs around 7 pm on a Weds evening. We got the Texas poppers to start. We got the 2 meat platter with brisket and burnt ends and sides of beans, cornbread, and coleslaw. We added on their special which was jumbo wings. We ordered water and a beer we hadn't tried before. So, to start, the experience was very hit and miss. I would not readily recommend this place if there are other options available. The Texas poppers are regular poppers with a piece of brisket on top wrapped in bacon. They were good, however, they were not freshly made. They appeared to have been sitting around for a bit. This was a theme for the entire meal. Nothing appeared to be freshly made. The brisket and the burnt ends were decent. Nothing special but ok. The coleslaw was terrible, to the point we couldn't eat it. It was dry with no moisture whatsoever. The beans were ok, but appeared to be canned that had been beefed up just a bit. The cornbread was probably the best of the 3 sides. It had a good flavor but was almost too dry but not quite. The jumbo wings were not very good with very little flavor and they had been overcooked. The ranch they brought with the wings was mixed with a vinegar which was a bit off-putting. The beer, hacked up lemon Haze was good. They allowed us to sample before we got a pint. The service was really good and the ladies were very friendly. They made sure we were taken care of and would recommend their hospitality. Overall, it was a mediocre experience with the food and we would probably not go back since we have better options closer to us. It is an ok place with decent options. This has been my experience the last few times I have been to this place. Their bbq pie was really good from one of my previous visits.

Wow!! Well worth one block off the Main Street in town. Great size portions very friendly staff, and as for the price…. I couldn’t eat this good of quality food this cheap if I’d had cooked it myself !! I highly recommend this place.

Stopped here for lunch today with the family. The food was absolutely amazing. I am a bbq fanatic and usually cannot get my fix in Iowa. The smoked mac & cheese was delicious and the burnt ends were the best I've ever had! Don't forget to try their homemade root beer!
