Small family restaurant with big delicious pretty inexpensive fish fry. Great tasting other food too (yes I strongly dislike fish). Lots of seating in Booths and at tables but it's got the small town feel which I love.

Having been going to Michael's for over a decade. This was the worst overall service ever! Waitress took drink order along with dinner order. Brought out soups (both suppose to be clam chowder) he got clam I received dumplings, rejected that. After receiving correct soup, had to ask for our beverages. Then, we were served each others beverages. Fine we can switch. Look on the counter (not under heat lamp) fish fry sitting...5 minutes later my partner's Walleye dinner comes up and waitress grabs fish fry off counter, brings both dinners to table. Meal warm, she does offer to have it redone, but they weren't taking anymore Togo orders and it was 706 pm. Also, no ketchup on the table, never came back to check on refills or anything. Another waitress asked if I needed to go container. Took it home to reheat. We both understand staffing issues...but, we both have been in the restaurant business (front and back of the house and distribution). It looked very much like lack of proper training and no apparent management working. I rarely will post a bad comment, but after coming for a long time and having good experiences. This was not good.

Nice place for breakfast. Great egg dishes, good coffee, attentive wait staff, fast service. Best part was that it inexpensive! All full service breakfasts are $9 or less. Kinda like pre-Covid days! They're open until 8:00 daily, so I'm expecting they have a separate lunch and dinner menu, but we haven't tried it yet. Pretty busy, but we were able to sit right down at 10:00. Parking might seem a bit iffy, but we missed a huge parking lot a bit West of the restaurant.

I placed an order recently that included an 8 piece broasted chicken, a quart of soup, and a sirloin steak an eggs. On their website, it has the chicken dish listed as 15.99. When I arrived, I was charged 22.25. I mentioned the difference, and they said prices went up when they got new owners a year ago. I showed the price, and was shrugged off as a 'it is what it is' situation. I felt I had no choice to pay. Owners, please do your due diligence to update your website to reflect accurate pricing. I certainly would have not ordered had I known of such a large price difference. I can take a buck or two, but this really hurts the wallet. All this being said, the food was flavorful.

Great local diner! We went for breakfast/lunch on the weekend and it hit the spot! I had a grilled cheese and my husband got a cheese omelette. Both were lovely! And mine came with their chicken and dumpling soup. I had heard it was one of the best in the area and it did not disappoint!

Love this place. Michael's has become our favorite local go-to. Food is always priced very well and has never let us down. Service is always prompt and incredibly friendly. Love to see that new ownership has kept traditions the same while adding some new favorites!

Breakfast, lunch or dinner you can't go wrong! Best chicken dumpling soup and Clam chowder that I've ever had when eating out... If you're looking for a good fish fry or a baked haddock dinner, Michaels is the place to go... Waitresses, food and atmosphere never disappints.

Had the baked fish. It was delicious. And I was shocked at the serving size. It was larger than I expected. I took half of it home for another meal. And the waitress was awesome

My wife and I stopped in right after a doctor visit craving some breakfast. We were seated promptly and served our beverages. Notice they were fully staffed with waitresses but it seem we were invisible to them all. Once we noticed a table that was seated after us received service that's when my wife mentioned, it's time to go. Once we mentioned it to the hostess who I believe was the manager/possible owner didn't seem very interested an giving us a genuine apology and told us "fine you can go without paying for your drinks" that was really poor customer service. Now, I have been in the food service industry for over 20yrs and I have never experienced such unprofessionalism, I have never pulled the race card ever in my life but I did feel a bit of that visiting this establishment. It's sad to say that but I guess I'll never be stopping at Michael's restaurant. One word of advice be more attentive to your customers. Last thing you guys weren't even that busy when we first walked in on top of it so no excuses. DO BETTER!!!

Classic no frills diner - huge menu, great value, friendly staff. Great for comfort food. Chicken dumpling soup is excellent. Only complaint was the hash browns were too creamy in the middle, not to our liking but aside that it was great.

I haven’t been here in years since I moved away but it is still as awesome as I remember. Our server, Kerri, who still looks just as young as she was the last time I was here, was on point with everything. We received our meals hot and fast. Our coffees were never cold and topped off regularly. Always a delight to go to a place you loved and it’s still as awesome as you remember!!

Been to this place before, good food and reasonably priced. This last time the hostess (Joanne) was a little all over the place and seemed annoyed. It wasn’t packed as it was 730AM on a Sunday. We ordered coffee and asked for Splenda sugar, she tossed about 7 packets from two feet away. Then I asked for water and she huffed and puffed about it as if it was a bother. What made the experience better was our server, April. She greeted us and had a great smile and was very attentive, but not bothersome. She had a bright personality and was genuinely happy to serve us. Throughout the meal the restaurant was full pesky flies and what may have been a regular customer began to kill the flies against the windows with his own fly swatter so this may be a regular occurrence. Overall experience was a 3 out of 5 and that’s only because of April, keep up the great job April.

The appetizers were cold and had to be sent back. It took a long time to get our food and an even longer time to get our bill. My husband had to go up to the counter and request it. Despite all this, the food was good.

We found our place for very good pricing for nice portions of food, haven't had a bad meal yet and all the employees are great, try it out but first check hours, they have been under staffed in the kitchen for weekends

Best Chicken Dumpling Soup anywhere! Great Food, Reasonable Pricing. They need to turn the heat up though, I had to eat with my coat on. Still one of the Best Restaurants in Milwaukee.

I really struggled with this review. I don't want one bad experience to taint an otherwise decent restaurant. I have had breakfast and fish fries here on many occasions and have always had a decent meal. Last Friday I went for a fish fry with two friends. We all ordered the fish fry. The potato pancakes were absolutely dreadful, they had an off putting taste and looked grey. Words cannot describe how bad they are. I'm not sure if it's a new cook or if it was just a bad batch. I would highly recommend going with fries or a baked potato instead. The fish was light in color and didn't have a lot of flavor. The server was efficient, kind and professional. On a better day it would earn a solid 3-4 stars, today it was definitely a 1 star.

I've had the fish fry several times. This trip the fish was dry and barely warm. Re heated perhaps??

Out of towners here and we visited this establishment on dec 10th. The cornbeef hash is made fresh, not out of a can. The country fried steak is delicious and nothing is overly salty. Our waitress is a gem as well, her name is April. We love this little restaurant that Milwaukee has to offer. :)

Second time here... Still as fantastic as the first! Friendly staff, reasonable prices, large portions, and TASTY FOOD! Cannot wait until my next visit!

The food here is always good nice portions and great prices. The only thing I don't like is it's always a cup of soup with a meal and not a choice for a side salad. This hidden gem is always busy and there isn't a turn over in help.

Was able to sit immediately! Old school charm. Classic cafe in the middle of the city. Very friendly and prompt staff. You know it's good when half the people are a bit older. They have been a round long enough to find the greatest places to eat!!

Small family owned diner with quick, friendly service and impossible-to-beat prices. Everything in order was exactly as I wanted it, recommend the crapes for a sweet treat

Home style cooking! Baked Pork Chops so tender the meat fell off the bone. Nice service and reasonable prices.

I give them 4 stars because their dumpling soup is my favorite! Growing up my family and I visited a similar family diner in our area, and I remember ordering the dumpling soup. This is the closest thing to that in this area. I’ve tried their breakfast twice, and was disappointed each time. The first time I tried the breakfast skillet. It was served with canned mushrooms, and American cheese slices. It ruined the entire skillet, and my appetite. Second time I tried breakfast I kept it simple. Eggs, American fries, bacon and toast. The toast was burnt, and the bacon was chewy. I like to get my eggs over medium and I dip my toast in the yolk. No amount of eggs, yolk or even jelly could cover the burnt flavor. Had the breakfast been the first thing I tried here, and not the soup I would’ve never returned. I don’t expect a family diner like this to have a 5 star lunch or dinner menu, but breakfast is essential to do correctly. Hopefully they are looking for a more experienced line cook.

Awesome family restaurant. Best chicken dumpling soup according to my wife. I always try their other soups. Fantastic fish fry, cod is great but batter dipped smelts are the greatest.
