Cash-only dive bar that serves the Juicy Lucy, stuffed burger with cheese inside. Pictures of well-known visits by popular figures are found on the wall. The service was fast, friendly and attentive. As a first timer, I thought the cheese was a bit runny/ watery? Otherwise it was a fairly cool lunch experience for me.

The home of the legendary Jucy Lucy! This is a super unique and culturally significant restaurant / bar -- just be prepared to wait in line! There are no online reservations: It's first come first serve. Assuming you have the time, it's well worth the wait! The Jucy Lucy is as delicious as advertised, but you should be aware that a super hungry person should plan to order 2 -- the burgers aren't that big. Additionally, be sure to give the cheese some time to cool off, otherwise you may burn your mouth!

We had heard about this classic place and that you have to try to Jucy Lucy if you go. If you want something fancy this is not the place for you. But if you want old school and greasy delicious food, then this is your kind of place! It almost feels like you're walking back in time and I love the old school feel. It's nothing fancy, just really good food! Definitely recommend and would go again. I would say the only negative is that it's located on a busy road and there really isn't any parking except on the street.

A great dive bar feel where everyone is welcome. The Jucy Lucy was absolutely incredible and cooked to perfection. The beer selection is awesome and has something for everyone. Make sure you split the French fries or you'll be taking home a whole bag of them!

FIVE STARS!! ⭐ The Jucy Lucy's🍔 are a MUST try, Outstanding in fact! The fries are really great too! A total dive bar that should be in the definition of Minneapolis. lol The atmosphere is so cool and I couldn't believe how amazing the service was. Our server was 'on point' with everything! She even asked if people wanted onions so there wouldn't be any surprises when we got our Jucy Lucy's. We brought some family from CA and they were so impressed with everything. THANK YOU Matt's Bar and Grill! ♥️🍔♥️

It's been 40 years since I've had a Juicy Lucy at Matt’s. Glad this placed has perservered through the years. Food was great. Service was great. It as a full house for a Wednesday night but the wait wasn't too long—maybe 15 minutes. Matt”s only accepts cash but they have an ATM machine. Parking is street parking however don't park too far away especially at night—not sure how safe the neighborhood is. The restrooms are in the basement. They're clean, but let's just say I'll skip the restroom next time. All in all, a very good experience. Sorry I waited 40 years. Love Minnesota!

Finally we were able to visit one of the iconic places of the city here in Minneapolis and see why it's very famous."Juicy Lucy" is delicious very good and not expensive. It's very crowded but it is worth the wait. Great service. Don't forget to bring cash!!

I went for the Classic Juicy Lucy, and was very good. Things that can be improve are that they only accept Cash, no ice on the drink, no plates, etc. I get the concept of minimalism but in a business I dont think is a good idea. But the Burger was delicious.

Jucy Lucy was good... but not somewhere I'd visit during subsequent trips to the Twin Cities, as it fell short of my expectations given it's notoriety. Had a Dive Bar atmosphere but friendly staff made the visit enjoyable. Our waitress (I think Claire?) was the best part. Also - skip the fries... there are a ton in an order, but they weren't very good.

This is a great place for even better food. The service is quick, the place feels very family like, and cozy. First time ever, no line to sit down. Small simple menu. Top 3 places in Minneapolis hands down. Only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5, the lack of being able to pay with a card, which severely limits the times I go and visit to about 2-3 times a year instead of 12-15 times.

I feel this place is a piece of food history. Totally legit!!! We have reading about the original Jucy Lucy for years, and this experience was just what we wanted and expected. Small dive bar that can pump out some food. It was a busy Saturday, and felt they could have used another staff member or two for efficiency. Otherwise, I'm glad I don't live closer or would weight 400 lbs.

Nice little cozy hole in the wall with good burgers and fries. The staff was very friendly and I chatted with them a bit. Much better than going downtown (Hells Kitchen) and paying an outrageous price for a not so good copycat burger and getting a snobby attitude. Will definitely be back when in town.

The "Juicy Lucy" is the main attraction at Matt's: a burger with cheese 'baked' in-between two beef patties. The meat was well seasoned and the cheese oozes out of the meat as soon as you take your first bite. If you are a burger purist and no frills meat cheese and a bun are your thing, the Juicy Lucy might be right up your palette. I did like this burger, but I need the crunch of lettuce and pickles, onions fighting for their right to include their soury and tart flavor, sweet tomatoes that are juicy in their own right. When I bite into a burger, I need the crunch and cool, the ballet of ingredients dancing on my palette working together to satisfy the soul, not just soft and juicy meat. Matt's burgers are a reminder of what good burgers were, but like everything else in this world, burgers got an upgrade--one that Juicy Lucy missed.

My kinda place - Simple, friendly, great iconic story and home of the Jucy Lucy! Must admit I'm a rookie on how to eat the iconic JL. They tell you to wait to eat the burger- well I thought I did and its exploded!! I had hot cheese spew on me and around me lol 😂 Fries and the Grain Belt beer was excellent. Must experience for Minneapolis.

We had the pleasure of visiting this iconic gem, twice in 2 days! The Nostalgia alone @ Matt’s Bar & Grill will have you anxious to visit again, just like we did! We had the pleasure of being served by the same waitress Renee! She remembered my wife & I and that made us feel invited & welcomed! We even bought Shirts for our entire family company in support of this family friendly iconic gem! The Juicy Lucy is something worth traveling the globe for! We definitely will be flying back for another visit! Our family would love to add Matt’s Bar & Grill to the list of iconic family friendly establishments we support with our Free Custom Tables! No matter the case, this place has our families support & promotion for life!!

I’m in shock that I’ve never reviewed this place. If you are anywhere near the twin cities and have never had the original Juicy Lucy, drop whatever you’re doing and head to Matt’s. Go with at least one other person, both of you should order a Juicy Lucy and split an order of fries. Fair warning, the food takes a while to come out and the establishment is cash only. My top recommendation for Minnesota hands down.

Best Juicy Lucy in all the land. They have a very small food menu and they are experts at everything on it. Their Juicy Lucy is always well cooked with juices and flavors locked inside. The bar is small so there can be a wait to get a table. Worth it. Their pop is served in cans which is unique. Very friendly wait staff.

Still has popular as ever. From arriving (line was to the interior door) to table was about 10 min, and this was around 2pm on Friday. The 1 sever was rocking the whole section like a true professional. Food took about 20-25min but the place was busy. Matt’s didn’t disappoint and the burgers were worth the wait, perfectly cooked with that sexy seasoning and cold beer.

Man, this was a great lunch. There was about a 5-10 minute wait when we got there which was nothing because later in the week we drove by and the line wrapped outside! Service was great. Food was delish! It’s cash only. Get the onions on your burger for Pete’s sake! Juicy Lucy lover all the way!

This was the best Juicy Lucy we had in Minneapolis! We came in and it looked like there would be a wait, but we were able to sit at the bar right away. The service was quick and excellent. The place was decorated for the holidays, warm, and casual. We got to watch the cook make the burgers. They came out molten hot, but thankfully the full order of fries is massive and delicious so we worked on that. We bit on the end of the burger to let the cheese cool off. It was simply delicious. We loved that the cheese stayed inside of the burger, and didn’t squeeze out the other side, which was not our experience at another spot. The burger had a nice cook. The pickles and ketchup were great. We will absolutely be back any time we come to Minneapolis, and will be recommending to everyone.

Don't come here looking for a salad. This is a great neighborhood place that is all about burgers and fries. Mainly the original Jucy Lucy. Nothing fancy, just unpretentious flavorful burgers with American cheese. If you have not been here, definitely add it to your bucket list. Both 5-8 and Matt's claim to be the original home of the Lucy, but Matt's wins, no contest. Pro tip: Get there right after they open or plan to wait standing by the entrance if it is busy and there are no open tables. You could also try to check Google maps for when they are less busy to shorten the wait. Pro tip 2: The full basket of fries is huge. More than enough for 2 hungry people unless you want to eat copious amounts of fries! Pro Tip 3: Wait a few minutes to bite into your Jucy Lucy. To pass the time, eat a bunch of those fries you ordered and drink some beer to let that thing cool down or you will be biting into hot cheese lava! Even after waiting, that first bite may not burn you, but it will be juicy and expect some of that delightful greasy cheese to ooze out and make a mess! Pure Gold!!

Awesome place to eat. Went to MN for work and was told we had to go here. Definitely recommend it. Just be careful. You WILL need napkins and the juicy Lucy’s are hot!!

Juicy Lucy, was thinking of a 🍔. Decided I should make a run. As usual Matt's quiet one minute and busy the next. The cook was handling the grill. Something like 30 burgers 🍔 at a time. BB on the screens and every one just relaxing. 15 minutes there and 16 minutes back. Sat at the bar waiting. Those servers were pleasant and working hard. Thanks ladies!!!

Cash only bar. Repeat cash only bar. They do have an ATM inside. They also have a touch tunes. If you don't beat the rush you will be standing for a while. Especially if there's a game going on. One to two servers and one cook. So might take some time overall to order and receive. It's cheap and good. Fries are the thin shoe string style, not my preferred but still hot and crispy. I'll say it, I'm not a fan of a juicy Lucy. Takes longer and for what cheese in the middle? Big whoop. I'll get my regular burger faster and be very happy. Which I was, very happy with my simple cheese burger. I would only say perhaps avoid the onion additions. Mine were half burnt.

Came here for the famous Jucy Lucy but was shocked by the ultra long and slow moving line right as you enter. There are a number of open tables but staff are struggling to bus tables and clear up the line so expect at least a 20 minute wait during peak meal times. The burger itself is just slightly above average - there’s a burst of cheese once you hit the centre but besides that I thought it was a bit too overdone. I do appreciate the sports bar atmosphere and crowd.

Good local bar with really good bar food. They claim to be the original juicy lucy. They are really good. Not huge but good. Careful of the full order of fries, it's a lot! But they are good too. Typical local bar atmosphere but it didn't smell bad and people were friendly.

SO GOOD. We are from out of town and had to come back a second time in one weekend before we left. The Juicy Lucy’s are a DELICACY so amazing tasting and do not leave you feeling greasy or bad, whole fam felt good and healthy after, not the usual feeling after eating a burger, especially one that has cheese oozing out!! So delicious and the staff was SO KIND ! Going to come back every time we’re in MN. On the weekend it was a tad busy but it is very worth it to wait. Highly recommend.

There was about a 30min take out wait and 1hr for seating so we did take out. Place is a bar with table booths and was very packed, bar had a odd smell like old modly something couldnt put my finger on it, but youll smell it as soon as you walk in, i give that atmosphere 2 of 5. Kind servers and cool cook tip your servers they are nice!

While in town visiting had to grab a Jucy Lucy. Be careful, the cheese is like hot lava pouring into your mouth if you eat it too quick! But it was tasty, the atmosphere was cool, enjoyed this stop.

Got there around 7:30 pm on Sunday night, it was about a 5 minute wait for a party of 5. We all ordered Jucy Lucy’s, 3 orders of fries and 2 beers (Castle Danger Cream Ale and Grain Belt Premium). The Juicy Lucy was one of the best in Minneapolis (had 5-8 Club, Crooked Pint, Nooks and Blue Door) because the grilled onion, pickles and cheese inside just all worked together really well!

This Minneapolis, classic location is a must stop for any burger, lover! The original home of the JucyLucy does not disappoint. This blue-collar bar creates an American atmosphere, celebrating their pride of all things Minnesota! The burger was amazing and lived up to the hype. The massive basket of fries were a perfect combination to top off the meal.

🍔THE. Jucy Lucy. A Cheese-Stuffed Beef Burger. AND 🍟 French Fries for the table The “Home of the ‘ORIGINAL’ Jucy Lucy” — I am not making any statements, just quotin’ here (In case we have any 5-8 Club advocates, which is the other establishment claiming the fame of the original stuffed patty🤔). You could argue all day over who came first; I prefer to just enjoy it. But not too soon!!! Or the cheese will burn ya 🔥😄 Despite a first-bite dairy-scare, this was some great ground beef. Smaller than I expected… but when you claim to have invented such a renowned phenomena of flavor, you don’t touch that recipe. And you won’t complain when cheese starts leaking out. ALL OVER. It was the compact, rich, cheesy burger bomb of local legend that Matt’s promises all foodies who seek to sneak their burger’s cheese out of sight 😁 The fries were fantastic as well! Thin, crispy, and hotter than a car door in the Minnesota summer sun—certainly enough for 2-3 💯 Matt’s is cozy and an absolute classic, but also first-come first-savor; its no ballroom. I’d suggest heading over right before 5pm, which was perfect timing on the Friday we went. Well worth it to stop by for the “Original!”
