I visited the Herbivorous Butcher today with high expectations. I had never been there before, though I am a long-time fan of their sister shop, Herbie Butcher’s Fried Chicken. The Herbivorous Butcher has an excellent reputation, but I didn't know if their sandwiches could compete with other local well-regarded sandwich shops. This was before I tried the Italian sandwich! It was recommended to me by the friendly person working the counter, and I’m so glad I tried it. It was crunchy, chewy, savory, and a little sweet. I loved the garlic mayo and cherry pepper relish. The bread was soft and easy to eat. Sometimes sandwich shops have crispy bread that’s difficult to bite through, but this hoagie roll gave me no such trouble. The plant-based meats on the sandwich were so flavorful and chewy. I devoured my sandwich, and I can’t wait to bring my boyfriend here to try it. I want to try all the sandwiches on their menu now! The sandwich came with chips too, which is always nice. The shop is cute and fun. The food is amazing. Highly recommend a visit!

This is amazing spot for food! It doesn't matter if you are on a plant based diet or not. Their food is prepared incredibly and tastes like the traditional food they represent. The staff here is so nice. They are very patient with any decisions you want to make. They have a large variety of options so, personally, I feel the patient staff is so important to the experience. They also have great apparel and treats. If you are a plant based individual like myself, my only warning is this place is addictive! Try as many things can you can, because it is more than worth it!!! My only complaint is they do not have more locals (OPEN ONE IN CHICAGO!!) - However, even that complaint is addressed with their online store! They ship to all 50 states and Puerto Rico! Couldn't love this place more!

I had their vegan version of an Italian Sandwich. It was interesting but not delicious. Staff are great. This place has some good ideas. I'm willing to try other items on menu

I honestly don't get why this place is so popular. I ordered a lot of fake meats and cheese online. I've now tried three of them and will never be ordering again. The steak was rubbery and disgusting. The bacon didn't taste bad but was nothing like bacon. The mozzarella tasted like Daiya brand vegan cheese and melted almost as badly. I'm a lifelong vegetarian and really thought I'd stumbled across a gold mine. Boy was I wrong. Back to my usual vegan brands.

The concept alone is just very cool. I order a Sriracha brat with spicy Mayo and got a s’more cookie/brookie. So good! Even bought a pack of the brats to take home

Their sandwiches are so good!!! These wonderful people donate meals to nurses like me working during a pandemic. They’re meal box was so delicious!!! I’m so glad I had time to sneak away to take a break at 430am to eat this amazing dinner!!! Thank you both!!!!

I'm neither vegan nor vegetarian but, today, I decided to give the Herbivorous Butcher a try. They were excellent! I'm all for shifting my eating habits to a more plant-based, sustainable diet and if all meat-substitutes tasted this good with such an excellent texture, I'd be doing this for all my meals! The cold-cuts on their sandwich were phenomenal! Yes, I can tell that it's not fully meat but, honestly, its a very close thing. Better than that: the flavor is actually as good as any I get from my local Jewish deli! Great food! Go and order from here!

Really fast service that the sandwiches we got were delicious! Lost a star due to the slightly rude girl who gave us instructions on how to order. Could have definitely been a bit more welcoming.

I got the Turkey sandwich with chips and a drink. It was a nice hearty sandwich that I could not finish in one sitting. It also kept well in the fridge. The staff was friendly and the service quick. Wondering if there was some topping that I could’ve asked for but hot sauce could’ve added that extra kick I desired. Definitely a fan of this place.

We order online pretty much monthly (we're based in NY). Everything is scrumptious. The "meats" are juicy and the cheeses are smooth and flavorful. My Texas-born husband says the steaks and ribs are the best he's ever had.

I bought their meatless ribs and as a long time vegan found them un-edible. Really very bad.

This place is amazing. I am not vegetarian or vegan, I own my own restaurant, I live with a vegan, and I have very high standards for vegan food. In my mind it should be approachable for anyone and have the same focus on flavor, quality, texture, and balance than any other restaurant does. Everyone should try their sandwiches, even for a causal lunch on the fly, trust the process and check out some brilliant craftsmanship. Keep up the good work!

I had been buying their plant based meats for a while now in CA. It was great to get to go to the brick and motor shop while visiting MN. I ordered the chicken shawarma hot panini and it was perfection. They also have various other vegan dry foods to buy (chips, sauces, ice cream, even a vegan s’mores kit) Street parking was pretty decent.

I really wanted to like this place but the meat just didn’t taste like meat to me. You might like it if you’re a vegan but if you’re not, just stick to the real thing. Nothing beats a fat steak dripping in blood.

I am happy I found this place sad I found it so late I’ve been going to school at Aveda suffering during lunch hour when all along this place was always here! My newest love. I’ll be here often asking question and buying what I enjoy. I got the jerky for me and my kid today Cajun and salt and pepper.

We were visiting Minneapolis last summer and stopping by to try them was on my list - I missed meat, especially bacon, and heard of them from a friend's vegan blog. I got my own little sampler pack and even my husband, the avowed carnivore, thought their Korean BBQ ribs and Hickory Bacon were damn good. I'm leery of ordering online, taste/texture unknown. Suffice it to say, I am ordering regularly online from them now, their bacon makes the BLTs of my childhood memories and the pastrami could be served by Katz's deli in New York it's so good! Thank you for making a veggie lifestyle so much easier!

Amazing! If you are looking for vegan options, this is a destination. The meats and cheeses are delicious. I also picked up some snacks and a shirt. The ranch is especially good.

Amazing place as a general vegan store. Specializes in a variety of flavored vegan meats and deli meats. Very good in taste. Also has its own special vegan deli sandwiches. One of the most delicious vegan takeout places in the Minneapolis- Saint Paul area. Sandwiches are huge proportions and a little pricey, although worth the money according to me. Deli meats are affordable.

Awesome food. Super legit meat and cheese alternatives. The Korean BBQ ribs are probably my favorite thing that they sell. The curbside pickup service is a great way to keep operating in the current situation, and overall it's a great experience from the initial pick up to the last bite. Try the bacon, too!

This place is wonderful! I made my first online order a few weeks ago. UPS delayed the shipment (not THB’s fault) and when it arrived, the box was a sodden mess. I contacted them and immediately their shipping manager, Bee, was really helpful and wanted to make it right. She placed another order for me and then kept in touch throughout the process to let me know when it would arrive. What great customer service! That is truly not often the case and I’m so glad they were incredibly responsive and nice. As for the food, so far my favorites have been the ribs and the ham. I’ve been a vegetarian for just over 20 years and they were some of the best I tasted. I will be ordering again!

It's all vegan. That's awesome. The cheesesteak was lights out. It's one of the three best ever, and that includes my kitchen on game day. But the majority of products here taste the same. Ordered the vegan starter pack online. Felt most items were identical and interchangeable. I was excited to learn through Happy Cow app that I was just miles from Herbivorous Butcher's HQ while on business trip to Minneapolis. I bought brie, feta, queso, and gouda. Haven't yet tried brie, but other three tasted good enough, but they weren't anything I'd seek out and again buy. It's also kinda expensive. My bag was $50-$60. Products weren't poor quality, but the tastes and textures were disappointing. Too similar and underwhelming.

I’ve always loved Herbivorious Butcher and they’re my go to place if I want to treat myself to some really good food. But their last two hot paninis have been so good I almost called them to just let them know how delicious my food was. Last week for my birthday I had their roast beef sandwich with white cheddar sauce which was incredible and today I had the brie, ham, and pear panini which was so good I had to write this review. They seem to just keep getting better and better, keep up the amazing work!

I first went to herbivorous butcher on a business trip to Minneapolis - maybe 8 years ago. Well fast forward and we are still ordering online from them years later since we don’t live in Minnesota. My husband adores the pastrami! As a long time vegan of 28 years, I have tried many faux meats and cheeses and I think they do an exemplary job. They are super creative people with a vision. I don’t know how they have the time to do everything they do- start a vegan butcher shop; start a farm sanctuary; write a cookbook; open more vegan restaurants… just wow!

We loved it! I was a bit hesitant because I don't generaly like vegan cheeses and meats I tried from the grocery stores, but these were great. Turkey dill havarti sandwhich was excellent! We tried beef sticks, a bit spicy but tasty. And mozzarela and smoked gouda were WOW. Neither had that fake cheese flavor but were tasty and moorish, excellent texture, would be great on it's own on vegan charcuterie boards. Can't wait to try it on a pizza!

The best vegan deli in the country. Amazing meats, cheeses, and of course, sandwiches, including a killer breakfast sandwich. Try it with Abuelita Guille hot sauce, which they sell there!

Traveling through the Twin Cities we stopped by to see what a vegan butcher could offer. We got breakfast sandwiches to go. Delicious! Also, a smoked Gouda cheese and beer brats to enjoy when we got home from our road trip. The cheese was fantastic. One of the best non dairy cheeses we have had. I enjoyed the brats, they were spicy with a great texture. A touch on the salty side, if your sensitive. I look forward to visiting Minneapolis again and checking out what else is in the deli counter.

Came by Christmas eve to pick up some vegan Christmas meat 🍖. The pot roast was really good, it was stringy and juicy like a proper cut of meat. The ham was not great in texture (spongey and unconvincing) but the flavour was pretty good in it's smokiness. Found the server to be a little unhelpful unnecessarily ( I get the feeling he is the manager ) Asked if he could reccomend how to cook the ham to which he replied "ah the cooking instructions are on our website ... Somewhere I'm not sure where". He seemed generally disinterested which Is whatever I guess. Considering how expensive and perhaps overpriced this is, it left a bad taste in my mouth about the place. But the food was pretty good and I like what they're doing ✌️

Usually i love everything from here, but lately the rotating hot paninis have really fell off. The last time I ordered one the carrots weren’t even cut down to a size that was appropriate for a sandwich. It was like someone just threw chunky full carrot sticks on a sandwich. The more recent flavors for the rotating hot panini’s seem like an afterthought that was hastily phoned in. Hopefully they improve in the future.

You can't go wrong here, I've never had a bad experience and everything here tastes amazing! The deli stuff is delicious and the sandwiches are so so good.

  • 5/5 Amber S. 1 year ago on Google
These are easily the BEST vegan deli sandwiches I've ever tasted. Between my family and I, we had the Italian Cold Cut, Turkey Dill Havarti, and Capicola Cheddar Apple sandwiches - each had its own unique flavor profile, and each was equally delicious (and HUGE!) In addition to the ready-to-eat deli sandwiches, The Herbivorous Butcher also offers a nice selection of sweet treats and butcher-style vegan "meats", including Cajun jerky and Korean ribs. In fact, there were so many enticing options that it was quite difficult to make a decision, which I consider a good problem to have :) This place is an absolute gem - if you're in Minneapolis, do not sleep on these sandwiches!

  • 3/5 Zach M. 1 year ago on Google
I've been going to Herbivorous Butcher since they opened but as of late I've found some of their business choice to be a bit...questionable. 1. Hours - They have a very limited window of hours they are open. If you work a 9-5, it's extremely difficult to stop by and get anything. It's not possible to come before work and not possible to come after work because of traffic. Even if they opened an hour later and stayed open until 6:30, that would make a world of difference. 2. In-Store Exclusivity - You can only get their products at the deli counter or prepared at a restaurant in Minneapolis. They sell packaged products in super markets all over the US but not in Minneapolis. If they started selling their products at local co-ops in Minneapolis it would make their limited hours forgivable because then I wouldn't have to worry about getting there in time in after work traffic. 3. Soy - There is Soy is almost every product, which I find surprising. Soy is one of the top intolerances and I it's disappointing that over the years they haven't done much to introduce more soy-free products. Many of their products contain, at minimum, soy-sauce which is pretty easy to substitute in my opinion and would thus make their products much more accessible.

I took my family here while we were visiting MN. We are a combo of vegan vegetarian and meat eaters and everyone loved the food. We had the 6piece bucket with Mac n cheese and corn. We also had the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Everything was so tasty. Crispy tots. Outstanding fried chicken. Excellent sauces and service. I also greatly appreciate the compostable cutlery and packaging. Would totally recommend and come back to.

Stellar, famous, amazing place with a huge selection of vegan "meats", cheeses, delicious sandwiches, AND awesome, hard-to-find vegan products (like grandma's long-lost hot sauce!).

  • 3/5 Bill H. 1 year ago on Google
Love having this shop here but their accomplishments with vegan ‘meats’ (which are considerable) are undermined by serving them on poor quality breads. Attention to detail is what elevates a lunch game and they’re missing an important one. Maybe stick to the ‘butcher’ items and pass on the sandwiches.

  • 3/5 Richard B. 1 year ago on Google
Got large box delivered. Had about 10 items. Shredded chicken and cheese and meat meat we're excellent. However, everything else was so incredibly salty (jerky the worst) they were inedible. Maybe the preparer was having a bad day.

I love their steak. Sometimes I have to second-guess myself. But I know I'm safe here but with their assortments of cheeses, deil meat, chicken, brats you name it. 100% made out of veggies and guilt free. I always go to when I'm in the cities. Definitely freeze it and take it home.

  • 3/5 Maybe M. 3 years ago on Google
A little pretentious, normal for the neighborhood, food was good but nothing to write home about. A little lacking in the "meat" portions. I love the building and the inside of the shop but I wish i had better things to say about the edible fragments of the establishment. I'll try again sometime I'm sure when I'm bored of the other food options.

Hooked on the Italian Cold Cut Sandwich! So many good vegetarian food options here.

  • 4/5 Jen H. 3 years ago on Google
Delicious - everything savory that you have been craving, especially the Italian cold cut. A little pricey, so not your every day sandwich, but might be more affordable if you buy the alternative products and make food at home! Just a heads up: you have to order ahead (or wait outside while you order) and it's cold in Minnesota.

The rotating hot Panini for takeout is delicious. I’ve had the buffalo chicken sandwich which was most excellent and the hot steak sandwich was as convincing as it was tasty. Also the vegan ranch is addicting. Wonderful place.

Holy wow! The Italian cold cut sandwich is remarkable. I'm an omnivore so this isn't a case of me forgetting how good animal based meats are, this thing is just down right delicious on its own merit. The team running the shop is also a delight.

My daughter is vegan and my wife and I have also given up meat. That said, I took my kids here to get sandwiches. The cold cut sandwiches were fantastic! My son picked the sandwich with the vegan mac and cheese and we all loved it. I bought the cookbook and a sweatshirt for my daughter for christmas and she’s excited to make the mac and cheese. Oh, and the gentleman who helped us navigate our first visit was patient and quite helpful. We will be back…
