I really wanted to like this restaurant because the menu is interesting and it's a beautiful place (but they were out of mussels); however, don't let these words dissuade you from going. The service was great. Olivier, who served us, was a charm and very attentive. We were just disappointed in the lamb. I guess, as fans of lamb, we placed too much expectation on it. It was decent, but we decided sous vide just isn't our favorite way to prepare lamb. The Osso Bucco short ribs and duck bombs were delicious. And they did give us a free dessert to celebrate my bf's hair's 11th birthday. Yes. His hair. That earned them 4 stars.

From 4 to 5, 5th star earned. Location, location, location. Lighting, lighting, lighting. Ambience, ambience, ambience. Pairings, pairing, pairings. Good things come in 3’s. Hush hush, very QT, and strictly on the DL - Cast & Cru’s hideout privacy is a MN best kept secret. Ssshhhh. The food @ Cast & Cru is second only to the ambience. Exceptionally comfortable. Worth the drive. And the staff? 5 stars, they are a gem. Recommendations: 1. Arrive before sunset. 2. Explore the grounds. 3. Hendrick’s deserves a cucumber. 4. Ask a neighbor what they enjoy most. 5. Don’t duck out before you try the poppers. 6. Protein won’t spoil your salad. 7. Carrots and cake aren’t mutually exclusive. - The Perfectionist

Very nice atmosphere. Was seated, ordered food quickly and received meals quickly. My overall impression was that this was a Top Chef inspired menu. We ordered the Hanoi Brussels appetizer which was amazing and flavorful, as was the bread service that we had with it. I ordered the curry salmon. It came warm and the salmon was cooked to perfection. The vegetables were good as was the sauce, but the plate and food became cold and unappetizing in about 4 minutes. My wife ordered the Bucatini pasta and she said the noodles were fairly bland and overall was disappointed. My daughter went light, and ordered the Caesar salad with added salmon, which was an expensive addition. She said the salmon had no flavor and was boring. So for the three main entrees I would rate them two stars. Again my overall impression was it was a well-designed meal except that I didn't feel all of the food was prepared fresh. That makes a huge difference. For dessert we ordered the salted caramel cheesecake which because I love cheesecake we enjoyed but again I thought it overall was so- so. And then I ordered a latte and the waitress said that to be honest it's just out of a machine (like McDonald's). So it wasn't that good either. I think that again my overall impression, for the money we paid, which by the way was $139 for appetizers, entrees, dessert, and a couple of drinks, should have made this fairly spectacular but it was just so-so. Freshness, preparation, and flavor are pretty important to me when I'm spending that kind of money, and although I liked the restaurant, I was somewhat disappointed in the end result. Waitress was unengaging and uninspired. Seemed like maybe she had a lot of other customers and didn't want to spend over 1 minute at our table. General impression again was that she got the job done which was order the food and get it to the table. Never came back during the meal to check on us if we needed/wanted anything else. Just watched us closely for when we finished to take our dishes away and bring the bill. Again, when you have to pay for service and give a tip for it, you expect more.

If you're coming to the show, have dinner here before: it's great to just walk across the lobby into your show. It's a simple menu but it's well done. Wine seems to be a big thing, and we sat next to the wine wall on our left, adding to the atmosphere. Servers were coming and standing next to our table. I asked them, what are you looking for? "Barolo," they answered and I suggested that the labels and the bottle shapes didn't suggest they were next to us and they found them back along the wall. The diner behind me tapped me on the shoulder and asked me for a "Chianti." He caught me with his little ploy, and we both started laughing, engaging with the other tables. It's that kind of place. I think they may have had a call off, and so our server was very good but very harried. Our cappuccinos took a while. She explained the maker needed cleaning and she tried to do it herself and it took time. We really appreciated her diligence and we all laughed again. The coffee wasn't that good, and the machine needed some work, but it shouldn't be up to a server. Dear owner: you need to have this taken care of at the end of shift or at the open....The wine choices are nice, and you'll have a good time.

Had dinner before the show. Great atmosphere. Nice and quiet so we could talk, even though the bar was right there, and tables were fairly close. The food was delicious, chocolate martini was fabulous, and our waitress was wonderful. Great experience. Look forward to returning soon!!!

What a great date night restaurant! This place is truly fantastic. The drinks are amazing along with the ambiance. It’s located on a open field with fantastic views. It has a very secluded yet elegant vibe. They also do live shows in another section of the building next to the restaurant as well. The food was 10/10!!! My husband ordered the short ribs and it was tender and flavorful. And the starter beet salad had the most wonderful combination of flavors we have ever tasted. I ordered the sous vide chicken and it melts in your mouth like butter. Give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed!!

What a lovely spot! Food was flavorful and the menu had a good amount of variety. The real draw is the environment. We had a patio seat and the sounds of the wetlands and the sunset couldn't be beat. Special shout-out to our server Dave, who not only was super attentive to us but spent time telling us so many neat facts about the theatre and the town!

Chef is doing a great job here! Great service, and fantastic lighting. Didnt even know it was here for years. Definitely a hidden gem worth trying out in the area! The lamb was excellent!

What a local gem. The food is fantastic. We had the Short Rib and Salmon. 2nd time for me with the short rib, tender, so flavorful laid on a perfect potato puree. That and a good red! My wife had the salmon, she rarely orders salmon but cooked perfectly with a tasty carrot curry ginger. The staff are so friendly, as are the locals dining. Drop by, say hi and have a drink and a bite!

Overlooking a breathtaking view from the outdoor dining space, Cast & Cru flawlessly marries natural beauty with rich architectural designs reminiscent of log-built structures. The steak was an exquisite treat, complemented by the irresistibly tasty brussel sprouts. Definitely a top recommendation for anyone seeking an unforgettable dining experience!

Food took forever( over 1 hours from ordering) come out from the kitchen for basic egg dishes. We got our food 15 minutes before the performance was to start. The bacon was burnt, the sausage looked old and petrified like old wood that I didn't eat.The toast was dry with no butter on it. They had a wonderful variety of hot teas to choose from. It would have been nice to get more then one tea bag. I spent $27.00 for my meal.

What a disappointment. I have had friends suggest trying their Wednesday date nights. I had added them to my instagram and seen their menus throughout the months. I finally found a menu lineup that interested me so I made a 6:15pm reservation. We got seated and were given the menu and the date night special card. It took more than 20 minutes for a server to show up to our table and upon ordering a beverage we were told that they were out of the special. There were several opportunities for the restaurant to do better. If they were out of the special they should never have given us the menu card for it. We also sat there for an extended period of time before talking to the server to find this out. We could have been 20 minutes into dinner plans at a different venue with more prompt service. We had the server cancel our drink order and we just left. I get that quantities are limited and that it was the special, but for a 6:15 PM reservation it seems unreasonable. I will certainly hesitate to go out of my way to make this kind of plan again.

Nice setting in the woods. Salmon was undercooked, smaller food portions. Very loud , like a bar ..good drinks and service. Trying to be a little upscale but honestly the food is average.

The food could have been a bit better. Mine was overcooked, but I am also keeping in mind that considering I was with 2 motor coaches filled with people, it was pretty good. I'm sure it had to be made up in advance and kept warm. The dessert was amazing though! Our servers were very friendly and attentive. Overall a very good experience.

Had an amazing experience at Cast and Cru. The food was so well priced for the quality and flavor. The service was great and the atmosphere cannot be beat! It’s rare to find a quiet, serene restaurant in a busy town, but they somehow did it!

Wow, what a great experience. Our first time dining here. Our server Violet was a 10, as was our food. Can't wait to return. Thanks for a great birthday dinner!

My new fav local brunch spot! The mushroom omelette is fantastic! Perfect mimosas with just a fro of oj :) I love the atmosphere here, large windows that lookout to the marsh of the lake. Really lovely on sunny day!

Don't get me wrong, the food was very very good but just not anything very unusual. Sunday noon I had a breakfast entree, again that was very good but pretty standard. I will say that the Bloody Mary was five star.

I was excited to go to this restaurant and then see the show in the adjacent Old Log Theatre. But unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The scallops -appetizer-were good but the main course -maple salmon and wild rice was disappointing. The portion was so small and had just a very small amount of wild rice on the side. Had to actually send the small piece of salmon back as it was undercooked. When I got it back it was overcooked and the rice was cold…. Service was pleasant and attentive. The ambiance is nice if your seated near the bar-otherwise you’re seated in an area that is a banquet hall. Don’t think I’d go back…

No salad and very small portion of potatoes and about 3 green beans. They waited so long to start bringing any dessert out that a lot had left for door opening for show. Dessert was great, only got it as someone came and told me they finally brought dessert out.

Cliffs Notes: We were excited to go here for dinner on date night. Very disappointed in the service - never got asked for our order so we left after 30 minutes of sitting watching other tables put their order in and get food. Details: Walking in there were several open tables on the patio/porch area. When we checked in for our reservation we asked if there were open porch tables so we could enjoy being outside. Those were reserved for people who were also staying for the show. Since we were only having dinner, no luck of sitting outside (we hadn't spent enough for first class seats). Our waitress came quickly and we ordered beer and wine. The beer took a bit to arrive and the waitress apologized. (~10 minutes altogether after sitting down) After inquiring on the waitress's recommendation for our entree she said she would be back. That was the last time she visited our table for 20+ minutes. In the meantime my wife and I enjoyed our drinks and time chatting...then realized it had been 20 minutes since our waitress was at our table. My water was nearly gone, the beer was long gone, and my wife was just finishing her cocktail. She had noticed a few minutes prior another table got there after us and salads already. At that point we just decided to go elsewhere. We had our cocktail together, had some laughs and just decided to try another spot (Hazelwood here we come). I got our waitress's attention and got the check. When we asked for our check the waitress didn't ask if we were eating (we had a discussion about her recommendation on a specific entree my wife was considering), she was happy to get the bill and that was that. While we would have loved to try the food, the service kept us from staying.

Tonight we were reminded how exceptional this restaurant experience is! Date night on Wednesday offers a 3 course dinner with wine pairings and the meal was creative, delicious and will have us returning soon. Can’t wait for the next Old Log show in the fall, too. A local gem and destination!

Perfect for date night, we love to come here on Wednesday when they have their 'Date Night's menu. Always awesome tastes with a easy wine pairing for not a huge price! Highly recommend to try out!

We have been a couple times this summer with friends and family and this spot is wonderful. The service is great, the food is incredible and the location is so relaxing and beautiful. This spit is a hidden gem. Highly recommend the flank steak, their wings are incredible, their fries are addicting and the drinks are fantastic!

Fantastic service. Charming restaurant and bar. The food was phenomenal. A perfect spot for a girls dinner. For appetizers the chicken kabobs and duck poppers were excellent. I really enjoyed the duck poppers they were delicious. For main course I had the fusilli with chicken which was tasty and a perfect comfort food type of meal. For dessert we did the key lime cheesecake, such a great light treat after the meal. So glad we picked here for our dinner.

Very relaxed and refined vibe from this restaurant. If you are coming from OpenTable make sure to check the menu on Cru's website for an up to date menu. My GF had a Cesar Salad (she was excited for dishes they didn't currently serve), but said the salad was ok. Nothing special. However, I tried the tacos and duck poppers. I was pleasantly surprised. The tacos were flavorful and delicious. The duck poppers were excellent as well, the duck is not overpowering and the bacon was cooked perfectfully. That dish could be elevated with more cheese and jalapeno, imo. I would def eat here again.

I love this place! The Brussels sprouts were probably the best I've ever had. Sweet and savory, and a little crispy on the outside. The hangar steak melted in my mouth and tasted great with the spinach and bernaise sauce. I had an old fashioned and it was delicious! My only suggestion would be is to stir it better. It was mostly whiskey and then getting to the bottom was mostly maple syrup. The atmosphere is cabin like, warm, and romantic (although not romantic enough that it makes it uncomfortable to go with friends. ) This will be one of my go to restaurants from now on!

Four of us had dinner last Friday before attending a really great play. Unfortunately, the dinner wasn’t nearly as good. The Valentines Day Special menu was quite misleading as to what was included in the meal. The cost ($50) was way overpriced for what we received. There was a lot of attention on presentation and very little of flavor. The red velvet cake desert was over baked, dry, and had very little taste.
