Very small church , ticket price 1,5€ because I had visit Santa Maria dell'ammiraglio before. Not even worth the 1,5€, wish I had used that cash towards the purchase of a cannolo. 2 minute visit, faster if you camera is fast to zoom!

Interesting to see the structure from the inside, but that’s about it. I think tickets should include both Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio and San Cataldo - the separate tickets only create confusion and more waiting times.

High on the ancient city walls, stands the impressive sight given by this XII c Norman church with three unusual little bulge domes, and with merlons of Arab tradition. Originally it was the chapel of a Palace (no more existing), built by the Admiral Majone di Bari but after his killing in 1160 the church interior (paved with beautiful polychrom marble mosaic) was never finished. Three naves are separated by columns retrieved from previous buildings. For six centuries it was property of the Monreale Benedictins till when in 1787 was used as postal office ! Its present aspect is due to restoration carried out in 1885 meant to free it from transformations and bring it back to how it was. Still the question got no clear reply: which was the original colour of the "red" (more pink to grey) domes? Since 1930s the church belongs to the Order of the Holy Sepulchre.

Very non standard architecture. The domes and and walls are syncretic between Arabic and Western architecture

Very beautiful church from outside side but nothing really unique from the inside, even though the ticket costs only 1,5€

Everyone is looking to the ceiling but I believe the floor (mosaic) is extremely important

Lovely from the outside. As I am Christian, found it Not really Christian to ask for money to access the church and simply decided to skip the visit. I was explained by the boy at the entrance(covered by curtains) that this was a private church, the reason it costs money. Private or not, this is a church and not a museum. Collecting money for praying inside a church is a dirty thing.

The Normans were geniuses, and incorporated architecture from their conquered people's into their works. The amount of Arab architecture influence is amazing...this building could be at home in Jerusalem, and looks like it belongs to First Crusade era. MUST SEE ITEM for Palermo

2.5 Euro to see a not hugely interesting church, save your money for something else in Palermo

Underwhelming! Very cheeky way to get your money, they hide the inner structure with a big curtain, so you need to pay (2-3€) to get a glimpse, but it’s just a very small, very badly lit and badly-tended chapel. The chapel next to it is much more well-tended and offers byzantine mosaics.

Interesting mini church but way overpriced. The outside is more interesting than the inside so do not bother going in unless you are really interested.

Very nice, small church. Interestingly a mixture of normanic and arabic styles. Take special note of *the* column and find out, what the writing on the capital means.

„San Cataldo was the chapel of a complex of buildings that have disappeared today, belonged to Maione da Bari, Grand Chancellor and later Grand Admiral of the kingdom under King William I (1154-1160).”

Impressively beautiful church located along Via Maqueda . Easy access except for a short flight of stairs Recommended

Nice on the outside, a single room almost empty on the inside, not worth the 2,5€ (Martorana is much much better, this one is a complete dissapointment).

Being agnostic, the religious stuff was a little over my head, but I can see that for some it’s a big draw. But aside from that the general history was there in detail and very interesting. When you pay to get in you have to opt for a minimum package as such with limited access to specific areas. We bought the full package and that included access to the roof, which was well worth it with views across the city. Overall, pretty impressive and the resources to read with regards insights into the history great as well (Italian and English).

A nice church, but we were not able to go in, as it was closed.
