Please avoid this place as it’s merely hyped and overpriced. Made my reservations after a friend’s recommendation who came a few years back. Should have done my research prior to this visit as I felt cheated after my meal. Whole restaurant was filled with foreigners with zero locals. Ordered one set of sirloin and one set of fillet with 180g each. The most expensive on the menu but left my hubs and I in utmost disappointment. We were served some vegetables (1slice of pumpkin, eggplant, and miserable amount of bean sprouts) first then the 180g beef (pathetic service size). No dessert, no rice, no drinks included for a 9,000 yen course. The thin slice of bread which was used as a base to put the cooked beef was eventually served to us after spreading some butter. Seriously?! Sirloin is at better marbling but the fillet is a total no-no. Normal beef, doesn’t melt in the mouth and is not tender at all. Only one type of sake is available and beer is expensive too compared to other places. After the beef, my hubs and I were wondering if that’s the end of the course so we asked the staff. Yea the course ended after that thin slice of bread🤦🏻‍♀️ I would say that this place is a total tourist trap. Do not trust the high ratings. You can find better place elsewhere with awesome marbling and more reasonable price.

3.5 stars for food and service. Valued for money and probably the cheapest Kobe beef in Shibuya area. $$$

Outstanding meal with a show. Ordered the sirloin, shrimp, squid, and garlic fried rice. The bread at the end is dessert! Highly recommend!

Don't get me wrong, the steak was great and juicy. I absolutely loved the way it was cooked. The grandma was also really sweet. Our reservation was at 8pm and the restaurant closes at 930pm. However, throughout the meal, there was little attention on us, which we didn't mind. What we did mind was that the food was cooked around 3 tables away from us, and then brought to us once it was cooked. It didn't feel like an authentic teppanyaki experience, as nothing was cooked infront of us. Although the food was great, the service is equally as important, and for a meal at this price, I expected more.

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. It's tiny, so the meal feels very personal. And the steak. Oh, the steak. Do yourself a favor and get the bigger portion. You'll be happy you did. It melts in your mouth, you barely have to chew. And it comes with a salad and some veggies!

This is rated #1 for a good reason! They have the best Kobe beef around. It’s not just the quality but how it’s cooked. This is a very old family run restaurant. There is a small number of seats so you must make a reservation well ahead of time. I made mine 3 months in advance but a month out is more than reasonable. Everything was excellent. The beef is presented to you on a slice of white bread. Don’t worry. It’s not weird. It soaks up the juices from the beef. Once you’re done with the beef, the bread is cooked with butter and toasted lightly so you have toasted buttered bread to eat. I know, you won’t try this but it is great. Keep your mind open to new things. This dinner for two with a bottle of wine was $174US. For what you get, it’s a bargain. Do get around in trying this place. It will be one of those places you’ll tell all your friends about!!

Amazing service & best Kobe beef I’ve ever had. It was our most expensive meal in Tokyo but definitely a must try if you’re there. They put the meat on the bread so it soaks up the flavour from the beef. At the end they put a bit of butter and it’s like a crunchy bit of toast. We spent about ¥17,800 in total for the both of us with extras like scallops, plum wine and garlic rice. I also loved that it was family owned and the vibe was so friendly. I will definitely be coming back if I go to Tokyo again!

Best meal in Tokyo so far on the trip! Super tender and flavorful Kobe beef, pumpkin, eggplant, onion and garlic butter sliced bread cooked in the Kobe beef oil. The chef was also super friendly and had a most wonderful evening chatting as well. Highly recommend!!

We made reservations ahead of time. The food is absolutely delicious. I ordered the sirloin set and have no regrets. They serve you the beef on a slice of bread, then toast the bread for you after. Every bite melts in your mouth. The restaurant seems to be more popular with tourists than with locals, but the food is amazing.

I wanted to like this place. Really. Family restaurant and the grandma being out front is endearing. Besides those positive, I think you could skip... Or try... You decide. The restaurant is unassuming. You have to have a reservation to eat and I'm convinced it's so they know how much veggies to cut and when they can go home. The food is ok. Kobe beef was exciting to eat in Japan... But it wasn't anything magical. I've had Kobe beef before and it was same as that. The reason I'm not impressed is service is terrible. They barely spoke to me... Got my order wrong... and never got water. Maybe it was an off night or maybe this is how they usually are and other positive reviews are the anomaly. With its high prices, heed the warning.

What an amazing experience, authentic Japanese Kobe Teppanyaki, at the restaurant which has been owned by the same family for nearly 60 years. Tonight we got lucky as the grandma herself was cooking, which doesn’t happen that often. The chef speaks English, the atmosphere is great, very friendly and accommodating staff. The place is always booked out and packed, I was very lucky to get in without a reservation for which i am very grateful. Thank you

The coolest place for dinner in the region by far with a rich 53 year history. 3 generations run the show here with a very up close and personal dining experience. You go here for one thing and one thing only...the Kobe Beef! It’s out of this world. Your plate for the night is a piece of white bread that gets fried up with butter for the end of the night. We ordered countless amounts of kobe beef, the shrimp and vegetables. All were fantastic! This is a must visit spot if you’re in the district, book a seat at 5:30pm on the dot when the place opens to ensure you’re getting dinner that night. Otherwise, call and plan in advance.

I’m glad I made a reservation for this restaurant. It’s not pretentious at all, come in regular clothes and be ready to enjoy Kobe beef. The sirloin set I opted for was 6500 yen. There’s three dipping options you can use - I think my favorite was the salt and pepper by a slight margin. The restaurant is family operated and you almost feel like a guest in their home. Don’t expect to speak English to the staff preparing your food, but the host/server speaks enough English to communicate with you.

One of our best meals in Japan. The meat was tender and the bread was also a winner. A bit pricy but I guess it’s for the quality of the beef. Winner of course is when the granny cooked for us. Don’t forget to make reservation.

I was here in the summer. We were lucky to be served by grandma who may be limited to English speaking, but she cooked everything perfectly. We waited for 30 minutes or so because we did not make a booking. Shop is rather small but that's okay. It was our memorable moment. I hope grandma stays strong. We will be back.

Absolutely incredible experience. The beef melts in the mouth and the way it is prepared and you prepare your own sauces and seasoning is fantastic. Get there at opening 5:30pm if you don’t have a reservation. They are good to allow groups to order different meats and share- just explain and they will put in it on your bread properly. Accepts credit cards. Seeing the meat prepared and cooked is a must see experience.

What a way to cap off my week in Tokyo. Was there right when the doors opened. Staff was so nice and it was such an experience to watch them get the Kobe roast and slice it right in front of me and cook it. Delicious Kobe beef. Now I ate at Ginza Steak and I got way more meat and I ate Matsusaka in Osaka (matsusaka sirloin was the greatest piece of meat I ate in Japan) BUT this Kobe was fabulous and the experience made it all the more memorable. Get the expensive one and if you're still hungry just order another steak, in the end it's still way cheaper than eating in the US or Canada

We had the best meal here in Tokyo!! We ordered the 180g sirloin and 180g beef fillet set which comes with a side of vegetables, salad and toast , as well as garlic rice and seafood. Both cuts of beef were soft, tender and delicious but if i have to pick between one, i would go for the sirloin. The garlic rice was really tasty and the seafood was very fresh. At the end of the meal, you will be served with an umami filled toast, which has soaked up all the rich flavours of the beef (and seafood). Did i also mention that our food was cooked by a sweet and lovely grandma? Overall, the price is reasonable for the quality of food and service you are getting. Would highly recommend and come back again!!!

Ordered the 180 gram kobe fillet and 180 gram kobe sirloin, sapporo beer and two garlic rice and total bill was yen 18,000. Not cheap, but quite a steal with the quality that they serve. Service was good, wait staff were friendly. Food was excellent. My goodness.. the beef just melted in your mouth.. so much flavors. Have to try!

Kobe Beef at a reasonable price! One of our favorite places to go to when we are in Tokyo. Simply put, you can't go wrong eating here, but now that COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and tourism is coming back, you have to make a reservation as there is limited seating...2 grills for families that seat 6 people each and then the counter grill where it seats another 6...maybe 8 people. Everyone is friendly there and know some English (if you are like me and can't speak or understand Japanese) so don't let the language barrier deter you. The Kobe filet is to die for, but you should experience both the Kobe Sirloin as well as the Kobe Filet. Enjoy!

We might have been unlucky, however our experience at this restaurant was not good at all and I do not recommend anyone going here. The food was OK, but a teppanyaki restaurant in that price range should deliver much better quality of food, service and overall experience. - Really hot in the restaurant so we were all sweating. Seemed like the AC was broken. The staff had to drain the AC/ventilation while we and other guests were in the restaurant, and we had to move for them to access the AC above our heads. Very unpleasant and certainly not hygienic or creating a good ambiance…this really took away the focus from our meal - overcooked scallops and not very good shrimps (smelling badly before being cooked) - meat was ok, however it takes a bit to mess up expensive high quality Kobe meat - food was served on a loaf of bread. The bread was fried in the end and actually tasted quite good, however the chef did not explain this in the beginning of the meal, so it felt kind of random and unappealing being served on a loaf of bread the entire meal - staff not especially welcoming and lacking positive attitude (compared to other restaurants in Tokyo!)

Good beef, great chef. Mostly foreigners go here and it makes sense since the host speak fluent English. Of course price is on the high side, after all this is in Tokyo but you get what you’re paying for.

Nice little family run place, but not what I'd call good value. Wagyu and Value aren't really compatible, sure, but the reality is I've had much better and cheaper wagyu elsewhere in Japan. The catch: most of that was outside Tokyo. But we are talking 50% cheaper for better quality, so at that point a Shinkansen ticket is almost justified. We had the chance to see 4-5 sets of cuts pass before us, and the fact is that the quality varied wildly. You could easily have received either a ¥10k or ¥100k per kilo piece, mostly luck driven probably. Absolutely go for the bigger pieces, the small ones looks sad. The place is quite small, and as mentioned by others, smoke-heavy. The hosts are great, and speak some English, which is a big plus in Tokyo. They also have managed to get a tourist cult following, which probably explains some of the price/quality woes.

The food was amazing!! We got here right before they opened as we wanted to make sure we got in. We did not make a reservation but still got a seat. If you can make a reservation great, but if not just get here early as the place only has a few seats. The chef and staff speak English and they take credit card. We got the sirloin Kobe beef and some veggies. They give three types of dipping sauces and our favorite was the salt & pepper but all were super good! The veggies were tasty and the meat—soft and just melts in your mouth. Seriously one of our best meals here in Japan! Oh they also put the food on a piece of bread and you eat as the chef cooks. The bread soaks in the juices and you eat it last! It’s crisp and buttery which is such a nice treat!

(Translated by Google) After reading a relatively bad review on TripAdvisor and the chef looking a little rude (which seems more like it for Germans than it actually is) I was surprised by a very positive service. As requested by the reservation service (not directly through the restaurant), we were there 15 minutes earlier. So we were asked to wait first. However, the cook immediately revised this statement and asked if we would share a table, then we would not have to wait. So no problem. The shop is small and classic this type where a living room later became a restaurant but cozy. You sit around a grill and yes you get a paper apron and for a good reason the meat and vegetables are fried in front of your eyes and fat can splash in the process. If you choose Wagyu meat, you can choose between steak and fillet and whether 150 or 180 grams. You get a salad, fried vegetables, marinades, salt, a toast and, as usual, always new water. There is nothing wrong with the salad and vegetables, it is enough and delicious. Drinks are relatively expensive but not as extreme as expected. The meat comes after it comes from the cooling (not frozen) on a mat and is shown so that the guest can inspect the grain, you can also take a closer look. Then it is fried on both sides of the grill under a hood and then a little fat that is still on the meat is cut off before the meat is cut so that it can be fried on all sides. This is almost a jellyfish because you can already smell the meat and the impatience continues to grow. With the fat cut off, sprouts are now fried. When you have eaten the meat and sprouts, the toast, which serves as a kind of plate and therefore has absorbed the juice of the meat, is fried and eaten again. The whole meal struck me with a beer that I drank beforehand at 8800 yen (February 2020) and comes to about 73 euros. And what can I say .... for me personally it was really worth it. I can only recommend the experience to everyone. Small note: You should make it clear before you fly to Japan that the culture is different. For me, the best restaurants and izakayas were mostly the converted dwellings because the owners are a lot at their work and they make an effort and are much more informal than in the chains, the helpfulness and hospitality of the Japanese is admirable. Kein Problem also rein.

An amazing Teppanyaki experience. 😋🥩 Great food, really nice service. We tried both the Sirloin and Fillet Wagyu cuts, both were amazing. The sirloin was a lot fattier, melt in your mouth food. The filet was more meatier with a bit more chew, but tender as well. Prices are high, but the quality is there to match.

Started with vegetables and some oil, then they bring out one beef, fry it off and serve on the garlic bread white loaf, then they fry off the rest of the veggies in the wagyu fat, and repeat that for both of our cuts of meat. And then at the end, when the garlic bread have soaked inn all the juices, they serve that

Superb food experience at Hakushu! The beef (both sirloin and fillet) was cooked to perfection. The marbling ratio was perfect where you won’t be overwhelmed by the fattiness nor oiliness. Other to recommend would be both the shrimp and scallop. I will like to say it compliments well with the meat. At the end of the meal, the bread which has soak up all the juices from the meat and seafood is a to die for. Do not induce too much of meat and not eat the bread as it taste delicious. Overall, I will say it is a must visit restaurant if you will like to have teppanyaki for a meal.

Food was delicious - I had the striploin not the filet since the marbling looked better. It did not disappoint - the beef melted in your mouth. It is a small place with just two tables and counter service so you get very personalized, attentive service. I would definitely come here again.

Simple, high quality Teppanyaki at a reasonable price (for Tokyo). What more could you want? We didn't have a reservation but showed up exactly at 5:30 and were seated. 5 other people showed up so if you don't have a res, this is a good time. For recommendations, get the sirloin! It's got a lot more marbled fat that just tastes so good! It just melts in your mouth. Splurge on the 180g size. Filet was nice but not as special. Finally, don't eat the bread. When your finished, they butter it and re-toast it. Delicious! Great meal and worth the hype

Amazing Teppanyaki with Kobe beef at a reasonable price! We ordered the Kobe sirloin beef set (150g for the girls & 180g for the guys), and added a side of shrimp, green peppers and asparagus and two bowls of garlic fried rice for a company of five adults. The total damage was about 8000-9000 yen per pax which is extremely good value for the quality of food that we got. The beef was nicely marbled and cooked to perfection (medium rare). And the best part was the bread that soaked up all the juices of the meat/vegetables/etc that were ordered and it was toasted w butter. Please try the bread at the end! It is so amazing!

Wow wow wow. No words to describe this meal. Couldn’t ask for a better first meal in Tokyo. We’re coming back here again very soon. The staff is incredibly nice, speaks English and explains how to eat their incredible food, I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Kobe beef teppanyaki run by an adorable family. Grandma mans the grill at the bar. Delicious steak at an extremely reasonable price. Call ahead to make a reservation because you will not be able to get a seat. In addition to the steak you can order accompanying vegetables and side dishes such as seafood Japanese pizza. Everything is fantastic.

(Translated by Google) The owners and shopkeepers are very frank and have a spirit of service. The taste is wonderful. In addition to the counter, there is an iron plate table for 4 or 5 people, and the style of cooking while watching the baking is very interesting. The sirloin is superb but the fillet that we were served was definitely less marbled, and it was definitely not Kobe. I could not get information about the serial numbers of the cows we were eating or the producers and there was no indication that it was actually Kobe beef. Still, the sirloin was still superb and I recommend it, coming here is definitely a good experience if you are a tourist (who has not tried wagyu meat before) and wants to experience affordable-ish wagyu meat, and the people hosting the place are very welcoming (unless you start poking around). I did not see a difference between the 150g and the 180g serving. We paid around 130k¥ for the two 150g ("B") parts; but if we had to recommend, we'd tell you to go with two "A" sirloins (the smaller ones) if you go as a couple and are eating alone. If you are sharing tables, I think I'd order a B sirloin and while they prepare the other's fillet, have ask for another A sirloin. Also, no locals were dining that day, so it is definitely a tourist attraction. They have English menu and they all speak enough English to guide you through ordering, though the smaller brother has better English level and he can translate to others.

One of the most popular and best spots for Japanese Kobe beef! This stuff just melts in your mouth and the service is top knotch as well, definitely worth every star and every dollar. You'll more than likely need to make reservations and don't be late or you will be bumped. Oh and get the garlic rice, thank me later!

Awesome beef! Child friendly. Reservation is strongly advised.

Our accomodation made the reservation on our behalf however when we arrived at the time of our reservation they told us there was no reservation nor did they ask other staff members about our reservation. Furthermore, they showed a lack of initiative to arrange or accomodate a different time, horrible customer service.

Found this place on Google whilst hangry and what a great decision it was. It was very cosy and felt as if I walked into someone’s home. The food was cooked with love. The wagyu was delicious. They pour brandy all over it, which was interesting... The bread at the end was a fun and tasty idea too. Lovely little place.

Great experience. The service surpasses anything you may not like about this place, no its not the most attractive restaurant, but what it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for with friendliness and warmth. The staff of this family run business really make you feel like one of their own and the next time I travel to Japan I will definitely be making my way to this restaurant again.

It was awesome. It is definitely an experience to witness the steak preparation Teppanyaki style and to enjoy the salivary kobe steak texture, taste and how it melts in your mouth. Definitely not to be missed if you are a steak lover and are in Tokyo. My wife and daughter who are not steak lovers also enjoyed the meal. Note: Do make an advance reservation otherwise you will be turned away. I was fortunate to get 3 seats with only a day in advance booking. A couple of customers were turned away for the 5.30pm slot as they did not have any reservations. The phone number is correct for the reservation.

Great experience and staff. Small, tight space - be sure to make a reservation. The meat was outstanding. The vegetables were just OK, as was the bread on which everything was placed (that you eat at the end) - that's the only reason for my 4. Still recommend going.

Wonderful experience, the food was superb. The price may feel relatively high, but it a absolutely worth it. The staff is also extremely nice and they can speak a bit of English, enough to explain the dishes and reccomend the best way to mix and match.

The only teppan restaurant I'll go to! Great prices. They make kobe beef filet and sirloin with vegetables and put the beef on bread, which they toast with garlic at the end. They also have good okonomiyaki. The staff speaks some English. Small place with space for about 12. They accept reservations on Google which are very easy. You can also call.

👍 There were about 20 people in front of us and we waited 40-50 minutes before we’re ushered inside the restaurant. I was glad I had not chosen an outside table because the air conditioning was working well. The meat was tender and melted easily without much chewing. I felt the cream and wasabi sauce...

😐 I have read a lot of good reviews for that however this is rather small place which seems a bit odd to me. When we entered it was full of strange looking people who seems to enjoy getting drunk and looking in to (to)young Japanese girls. I know it is part of Japanese modern culture but it does seems...
