It would have been five stars if only counting the effort of the guide from the tour given at the village. The history, the background, the knowledge and everything was given to you in a direct, easy to understand and interesting manner. However, the experience for us was quite bad as the first day we went in we were told they were booked full and ask us to come back the next morning. The next morning, we went in at 9.25am and they told us the tour had already started and we will need to wait 30 minutes or so. That's fine with us. But it was not until one hour forty minutes later we had our tour. Granted, the tour before us was a big group of students, and some delays were expected but we just waited and waited at the reception and no one offered us update or explanation, we just had to keep asking. They should review how the tour is being conducted and improve upon it, then the customers will definitely have a better experience.

I really loved the tour. Climbing up the mountain was no easy task, but it was worth the workout (the walk back down ain't so smooth either) This mountain is really such a great part of the Basotho culture and the guide was so knowledgeable about King Moshoeshoe and the history of the place. The tour would have been useless without the guide. The scenery is beautiful too... Got to take beautiful pictures with the mountains as the background. Lovely indeed!

The place was well built and tried to portray exactly how the Basotho people and different tribes lived. The museum is very educative. Its a place worth visiting when you are in Lesotho.

Very nice place to see more about the history of people from this country. In the village is more different houses according to the social status of the period. The houses and the whole village are in very good condition and walking around is very nice. You can also hire a guide and piston more stories about life. Pretty interesting place where to stop for sure

Beautiful space to at, nice and great place to even book for events if you will. A touch of a pool site would have be a good feature as well, especially in the location is at...Right at the bottom at the historical mountain THABA BOSIU where the BASOTHO people got shelter at,fought the boers at, proctected their herds of cattle and the final resting place of the one and only KING MSHOESHOE 1 and those that followed him

This place needs some life, I was there in the morning of the new years eve but the place felt like a grave site. Nothing was happening other than being charged to take a picture next to the King's statue or visiting the cultural village. New ideas need to be injected

Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village, located near Lesotho's capital, Maseru, stands as a testament to the rich history and culture of the Basotho people. With an entry fee of 140 Maloti, visitors are granted access to a world where the past and present of Lesotho merge seamlessly, offering a unique glimpse into the heart of Basotho heritage. Upon arrival, the modest entry fee seems a small price to pay for the wealth of experience that awaits. The guided tour is the highlight of the visit, led by knowledgeable guides who bring the history of Lesotho to life. As you walk through the village, the guide recounts the tales of King Moshoeshoe I, the founder of the Basotho Nation, and his strategic brilliance in using Thaba Bosiu as a natural fortress during conflicts. The tour covers various aspects of Lesotho's culture, from traditional dwellings and artifacts to the sacred rituals and practices that have been preserved over centuries. The guides are adept at weaving the narrative of Lesotho's past with its implications for the present and future, engaging visitors in a thoughtful exploration of Basotho identity. Moreover, the Cultural Village itself is a marvel, with replicas of traditional Basotho huts and the real Thaba Bosiu plateau in the background, providing a scenic backdrop that enhances the storytelling. The experience is immersive, allowing visitors to feel a part of the history and culture being shared. One of the tour's strengths lies in its ability to cater to both history enthusiasts and casual tourists. The information provided is in-depth enough to satisfy those with a keen interest in Lesotho's past, yet accessible and engaging for all audiences. The tour guides are open to questions, ready to delve deeper into topics of interest or clarify any aspects of the story. In conclusion, the Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village offers more than just a glimpse into the history of Lesotho; it provides an immersive experience that educates and inspires. The entry fee of 140 Maloti is a small investment for the rich cultural and historical insights gained. This visit not only deepens one's appreciation for Lesotho's heritage but also highlights the importance of preserving such knowledge for future generations.

Had a terrible experience this past Thursday. I was staying in room 32, and for the price of R1500 per night, the service was terrible. And why is breakfast served at 8 am. on a weekday?

Lovely place overall, besides the fact that I came back with missing items after my stay and no one seems to know where they are, which is a concern

We refused to pay R30 just to see a statue. At the Shoeshoe restaurant the waiter was very slow. It took forever to get our food and when we finally got to us it was very cold.

Tour guide is excellent. Gives enough time to explain and more room for interaction. Relaxed and informative. Was expecting some more displays iBasotho cultural gear, even for sale, but none, except for a few Basitho hats. No refreshments either, unless if they were not visible.

The place is out of this world… all the space you need in the world and the chalet are well equipped for conferences and workshops

  • 5/5 Msizi Z. 1 year ago on Google
The place needs attention from the department of art and culture together with tourism department. Since it holds vast amount of Lesotho culture and heritage, together with the country's rich history. They must advertise it as from the border gate all the way since its the most tourism attraction for the country.

Their chilli was amazing 10/10, the food was not good at all and we also did not get a tour to help us navigate and understand the historical culture of Basotho. It needs more intentional service... the restaurant is not bad with their service

Very rewarding experience. The cultural village is well designed and maintained. The active displays of traditional village architecture and life, coupled with the information and pictures in the visitor's centre, opened interesting new perspectives on the richness of the Basotho people and their kingdom. Our guide (his name escapes me now), an experienced and proud elder of Lesotho, entertained us with his tales and knowledge. Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village is a must on the itinerary of visitors to Lesotho.
