The reptile house designed for reptiles like crocodiles and a variety of snakes inside the enclosure of the Alipore Zoological Garden in Kolkata is a wonderful one. It has a great range of animals, but you need to tackle a fat crowd to get a glimpse of the snakes. Another thing, photography is prohibited here.

Here you would find more human beings than reptiles...😡😡 It is so crowded that you would rather have to keep an eye 👀 on ur phone and pockets than on the glass tanks containing the reptiles...rather snakes 🐍...

license of this snake has been expired a long back. It is situated on Badu Road, 20 minutes driving distance drom Madhyam Gram Chowmatha. Auto Service , toto and 93 route bus service can be availed to go to this place. Now a days it is used as picnic garden and dating park. Once upon a time it was one of the prime attraction of this locality. Many local shops and refreshment centers were there , but since the snakes has been taken by the forest dept. it is almost a dead park.

This is a great place to enjoy with your family and kids. You can carry your food and replenish yourselves. However plastic wrappers not allowed inside. Wonderful collection of birds and animals. Though I personally think that birds deserve larger area to live. Car parking is a challenge of course. I parked nearly 1.5 km far in a narrow lane.

The place is all over awesome .There are facilities like drinking water but only plastic wrappers are not allowed inside the zoo. It is also forbidden to throw food to the animals. There are many lovely birds and animal species inside the zoo. There were many tigers in the scattered regions of the zoo.The atmosphere is good but during the Christmas holidays it was overcrowded.

One of the oldest reptile house in India... various types of reptile species are present here in this place... this place is considered as a separate place or house of the various kinds of reptiles only, but present in the main premises of the alipore zoological garden... huge crowd attraction of every time within this reptile house... very venomous kind of snacks and other reptiles are present here... young people are interested about this place... overall its a nice place but maintenance definitely needed...

It contains round shape of building. Inside the building is various types of reptiles like snake, etc..., Not one to move one place to another place because all are sit in one place. It is thrilling movement in front of snakes. The snake is fully covered in glasses so don't panic go to inside the reptile House. The different different types of snakes is saw. It not required separate entrance tickets for reptile House. The one snake is very thin and another snake is very large.

Very well maintained section in the Alipore Zoo. Many species are kept here with well care. I will give 5 🌟 for cleanness. The transparent shields are very useful to watch them instead of net. Every species has there own style for living. Alipore Zoo has arranged all the comfortable arrangements for them. Python is the most attractive here.

The owner of this place has lost his license and hence the snakes have been taken away by the west bengal wildlife department leaving behind only a couple of red ear slider turtles and some birds. The entry fee is Rs 25. Largely this once much coveted snake park has lost its charm and is now serving as a dating place for couples.

The name of the place should be change because there is no snake in the garden. There are present only few number of birds which you can see here. The ticket price is 25/person. And the garden turned basically a lover's point. I don't recommend to visit here if you want to see snakes. Very worst place. #snake #garden

No extra tickets needed to visit this house. There were lots of snakes before but not many at present. Good time to visit is during Summers as they don't usually come out during winters. It's same with many more animals in the zoo. The water or swamp snakes are great sight to watch. Very fascinating.

This zoo has certainly improved since my last visit in the year 2009. Require more venomous reptiles for padagogy.High Attention needed in Terms of cleaning and hygiene. Lacks waste bins at every corner of the zoo area. Otherwise Good place to have a picnic. Though I believe animals are not meant to be kept in captivity but for knowing and getting a clear view of animals species peoples shall be allowed to be educated keeping In mind zoo animals shall be released in jungle after a period.

The world is a huge place to see. It consists of so many living organisms that it is impossible to see each and every one of them. Especially for human beings, who are fascinated very much by animals. For the same reasons, zoos were created so that humans can interact better with animals. In other words, a zoo is a facility that has animals, birds, and reptiles of all kinds. They are confined to space where they are given food and medical facilities. The government has given strict guidelines to maintain a zoo. This is done keeping in mind the animal’s safety. In addition, zoos are made breeding grounds for animals to protect their species. Benefits of Zoo Zoos were made to bring wildlife closer to humans. It gave humans a better and up-close view of them. This allows various researchers and scientists to note the behavioral pattern of the animals. It helps them in their studies and discover new things. In addition, zoos are a great source of entertainment for kids. They love visiting zoos and interacting with animals. This helps them learn practical knowledge about the animal. It also gives them exposure to wildlife and widens their knowledge. Furthermore, zoos give us easy access to rare animals. Had it not been for zoos, we would have never been able to see what some animals looked like. We enjoy their behavior and it also creates awareness about the extinction of the rare species. Similarly, zoos are a safe breeding ground for animals. They ensure the animal breeds so they never go extinct. This helps in creating a good balance. Moreover, the zoos ensure the animals get all the nutrition in their bodies to lead a healthy life. This is beneficial as the animal may not get guaranteed meals in the forests.

Needs a revamp, many animals are underfed, specially noticeable in tigers. Water is mossy in many water bodies, availability of clean drinking water is a myth here. Variety can be increased. Many animals are alone and bored affecting their mental health. It is always best to see animals in their natural habitat and this is true only in case of few animals in this zoo. Parking is a big problem and traffic control needs better organisation. Food courts doesn't even accept card , that should give an idea about the restaurants. You can't get even hot water and they force you to take bottled water. People use it to spend time with family , coming with own food, eating there, playing and passing time. Animals are not properly maintained.

I visited zoo after two years, no of speciess are becoming less, snake house is completely empty only python was there, many species are missing. Government should take initiative to bring more species. Some of animal lover like me will be more happier. I always happy to see different creatures. Apart from this everything is well maintained.

Calcutta Snake Park was established on 2nd October 1977. It was inaugurated by Mr. Parimal Mitra (Honorable Minister of Forest, Govt. of West Bengal) and Mr. Ram Chatterjee (Honorable Minister of Civil Defense, Govt. of West Bengal) who was the chief guest. Calcutta Snake Park was founded by Mr. Dipak Mitra. Being a young wildlife enthusiast with a special affinity towards reptiles he was maintaining 4-5 boxes of snakes in his garden of his ancestral home in Badu. Snakes were wildly feared all over the country as being potential human killers. Although Hindu religion and culture paid high respect to snakes yet the terrifying stories of snakes hunting down people to kill them have corrupted their reputation. Snakes other than those exhibited by snake-charmers were killed at first sight. Also snakes and other reptiles were hunted down by people to support the leather and other industries. India was rich in reptiles but poaching and habitat loss has decimated their population.

A zoo is an enclosed area where animals and birds are housed with a lot of care. The authorities of the zoo take care of the animals and birds. The zoo allows the visitors to know more about the animals, their behaviour, etc. Zoos are one of the favourite places to visit for kids, where they not only enjoy but also learn a lot of new things about various animals. We teach our children about various animals and birds from books, but a zoo is a place where they can see the animals and birds of different species naturally. Every year I visit the zoo with my family. It has been six years now that we have been visiting the Nandankanan Zoo every year. It is the most interesting and exciting place for my family and me. We all love animals, but we hardly see these animals in their natural habitat. That is why zoos are made. We learn a lot of things about these animals, like their habitat, their food styles, etc. The best part about this place is the authorities do not allow us to feed the animals. It is for the safety of the visitors as well as the animals. The cages are huge in this zoo as compared to the other ones I have ever been to, which gives the animals enough space for their survival.

It was full of snakes and other reptiles. There were so many Pythons and the Reticulated Python was the longest. It is just beside the Anaconda Enclosure and near the entry gate. It is best to visit between summer and monsoon.

Alipore zoo is one of the most visited place in Kolkata. From the age of infants to senior citizens no boundaries are there to visit. In last few years , Zoo authority took few more animals like kangaroo, Turtles(after the death of that 200 years old turtle), new Leopards, Jaguar etc which were not there. Few reptiles also came to zoo like Green Iguanas etc. The entry fee is still 30 rupees. People can book tickets online also. This is the most common place for a small family picnic.

Good place to hangout,, happy to see roaring Royal bengal tiger, Giraffe, small Turtle 🐢 , kangaroo and various kind of birds..I have visited on sunday, so the place was very crowded and people are throwing garbage here and there..for that reason some place was looking very dirty ..But there is one big problem regarding the Map of zoological garden , it is very confusing.. I think zoo authority should work on this,, it will help many visitors specially first time visitors.

First week of January 2021, I had visited the place with my 6 years old son. We enjoyed so much. There was nothing to notice on pandemic it was completely same as other time. The place was full with people on the day. Lots of food and snacks stalls were available and opened for all. Enjoyed watching Kangaroo, Zebra, Giraffe, White Tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger, Bear and many wildlife fauna along with various kind of birds. But most of the snakes were taking rest due to winter season. There were places available to sit and take rest or eat foods. Toilets were also available at convinent distance. Overall, Enjoyed the Zoo!!

The owner of Snake Park lost his license so it has taken by the Govt. Now there is nothing left except some tortoises and birds. The entry fee is 25 and the large Snake Park lost the charm, beauty & fresh atmosphere. Now Snake Park has lost his importance and identities. It is now a normal place like the other parks in this area. I don't recommend this place if you're planning to go there to spend holiday. History of Snake Park: Calcutta Snake Park was established on 2nd October 1977. It was inaugurated by Mr. Parimal Mitra (Honorable Minister of Forest, Govt. of West Bengal) and Mr. Ram Chatterjee (Honorable Minister of Civil Defense, Govt. of West Bengal) who was the chief guest. Overrated place to visit. The species of snakes is very less in amount. You will feel untidy. Difficult to reach there from city.

Actually there are no Snakes in this Snake Garden. In the earlier times, there were different kinds of snakes here, but not now. It could be that they moved to some other place.

I think alipore zoo teams need to take care of the reptiles section. There were no yellow anaconda,no snakes. I think snakes is a most important category for any zoo.

Don't have to buy separate tickets for the reptile house. But I suggest to visit the house when the weather becomes a little hot. Because during winter not many reptiles can be seen inside the cages because of their hibernation.

Earlier the zoo had more varieties and it was much better but now you can barely see any reptiles or snakes in the aquarium.
