Sarsanka
is
a
borderline
area
of
West
Bengal.
Orisha
is
nearby
state
and
the
culture
is
very
much
influenced
by
Orisha.
There
are
so
many
unknown
history
of
West
Bengal
and
Orisha
was
hidden
every
corner
of
this
area.
First
I
want
to
show
my
gratitude
to
late
Lalitmohan
Samanta
who
wrote
the
"History
of
Dantan",
there
are
so
many
unknown
historical
information
about
ancient
Dandabhukti
.
It
has
helped
me
a
lot
to
write
this
report.
In
the
ancient
times,
Dandabhukti
was
an
integral
part
of
today's
Dantan.
The
distance
to
Sarsanka
from
Dantan
railway
station
is
about
four
kilometers.
Sarsanka
Dighi
is
the
largest
among
West
Bengal
and
Orisha.
However
since
the
time
of
independence,
which
has
been
ignored
for
some
unknown
reason.
It
is
astonishing
that
historian
Rakhal
Das
Bandyopadhyay
did
not
mention
anything
of
this
vast
dighi
in
his
book
"History
of
Bengal".
Tapan
Dighi
and
Mahipal
Dighi
are
one
of
the
many
famous
Bengal's
Dighi
that
are
mentioned
in
his
Book.
The
length
of
the
Tapan
is
4700
feet
and
the
width
is
1750
feet.
Mahipal
Dighi
length
is
3800
feet
and
width
is
1750
feet.
But
the
Sarsanka
Dighi
length
of
5000
ft
and
width
is
2500
ft.
The
famous
litterateur
Subodh
Ghosh
has
mentioned
this
vast
Dighi
in
the
story
"Sakshisena
Pathshala"
in
his
famous
Book
"Legendary
Country".
The
famous
person,
Sri
Jogesh
Chandra
Bose
express
his
disappointment
about
that
this
Dighi
wasn't
mentioned
in
history
of
neither
Bengal
or
Orisha.
It
is
known
from
ancient
old
purana
"Madlapalanjali"
that
there
was
a
king
named
Shorashank
of
Ganga
dynasty
of
Utkal.
In
the
history
of
Bengal
first
part
of
the
7th
century,
there
is
no
name
of
any
king
of
the
word
"Sh"
without
Shashanka.
King
Shashanka's
kingdom
was
extended
to
the
village
of
Ganjam
in
Orissa.
Therefore,
among
the
possible
reasons,
this
huge
dighi
is
the
epitome
of
one
of
these
two
kings,
although
there
is
no
historical
evidence,
yet
the
historical
significance
does
not
break
the
historic
significance.
It
is
known
from
the
ancient
proverb
that
a
King
called
Shashanka
Deva
of
Pandava
dug
the
Dighi
on
the
way
to
Puri
Jagannath
Temple.
Although
it
has
no
historical
basis.
It
is
known
from
the
proverb
that
the
famous
Sarsanka
Dighi
and
Dantan
Bidyadhar
Dighi
are
associated
with
7.5-feet
high
and
4.5-ft
width
tunnel.
At
present,
this
lake
is
becoming
shallow.
All
of
our
cooperation
predominantly
required
to
bring
back
the
old
heritage
of
this
Dighi.
The
Jagannath
temple
is
one
of
the
oldest
temples
of
the
Chowdhury
Zamindari
of
Palasia
village
on
the
west
side
of
this
dighi,
there
are
also
Jateswar
Baba
Mandir.
There
are
also
Sri
Sri
Bayeshwar
Ji
Temple
on
the
east
side
of
Dighi
and
Pir
Babar's
Dargah,
besides
the
famous
Pandav
Ghat.
Every
year,
during
Makar
Sankranti,
a
large
fair
is
held
in
the
east
side
of
this
Dighi
and
people
participate
in
this
fair
regardless
of
caste
and
creed.
Many
people
have
a
bath
in
Pandava
Ghat.
At
that
time,
this
place
became
a
center
of
excellence,
unity
in
diversity,
mind
responded
to
the
India's
eternal
culture
to
carry
on
with
nature
and
people.
In
this
way,
our
beloved
Dandabhukti
will
be
accompanied
by
his
past
history
with
the
present.
