Words can’t express how tasty the food is at Chu Chai. My favourite was definitely the Crispy Vegan Duck (a must-have). Something about the texture of the dish made it incredible. Anything on the menu would be a great choice, it’s quite hard to pick just one. I went on a double date so it was nice to try each other’s options. Food is definitely A1. As for price, it’s not your inexpensive but it ranges really faire for the quality that one can get. It’s perfect place for a dinner date or casual dinner with friends. Drinks were good. I’m pregnant so I didn’t have an alcoholic beverage but from what I gathered from my mates, their drinks were delicious especially the Sangria. Highly recommend this place. Whether vegan or not (our friends who dine with us were not), anyone can appreciate the food!

This is absolutely life changing vegan food! :) I wish I lived in Montreal for this food. I’ve been more than 4 times and will go every time I go to Montreal. A definite 10/10. My always go to items: 🌱Ped Palo (mock duck - it’s THE BEST) with sticky rice 🌱Miam Kram (five flavour finger food) to die for 🌱Yam Mamuang (their mango salad) is soooo good 🌱THAI- JITO drink IS SO refreshing and delicious 🌱Tapioca pudding is an absolute must

By far the best vegan Asian (Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese etc) restaurant I’ve ever been to. The favor profile was really good, every dish was curated to perfection. We did the ala carte option and had a couple starters, soup, noodles and two dishes and everything was great! Their service was also real good, they accommodated our group of 6. Needless to say, I will be back 😋

Awesome Pad Thai, probably the best I've ever had outside of Thailand. Shrimp in a green curry and Coconut milk sauce. Can't believe it's vegan. Dessert was a truly amazing cherry cheesecake and chocolate and almond macaroons. Never thought I'd find such a delicious vegan cheesecake. Great atmosphere. Clean. Best of all the restaurants during our 2 night stay.

I came to Montreal for a conference and researched vegan restaurants in advance. I found Chuchai and went there on my first night in Montreal. I got a table although I didn't have a reservation, the staff was super polite and attentive and my Pad Thai was simply amazing! I will definitely come back and try the other delicious options on the menu. Fantastic experience!

Excellent service and food!! I’m not from here but every time I’m in town, this is one of my must go-to spot!! Last time I was here with friends, we ordered 9 items!! Every single dish that came out was delicious!! I particularly love the chicken satay(Kai Satay)! We ordered it twice!! The crispy duck (Ped Palo) was incredible as always! I love how their food quality stays consistent over the few years I’ve visited! I left the restaurant feeling incredibly satisfied and full! Definitely one of my top favorite spots of all time!!

Most impressive for being an all-vegan Thai restaurant! While I don’t typically seek out vegan variations, it was great finding a restaurant that seems to have experience with it. Our table, who had 3 vegans and 2 omnivores, tried a variety of dishes and particularly enjoyed a crispy seaweed appetizer, and a 3-flavor beef dish. My usual go-to at Thai restaurants is the pad krapow or a basil chicken. I tried their variant and while it was not chicken, most of the flavor profile could be found. I only wish for slightly larger serving sizes!

We didn't dine in so no review on the service and atmosphere. The curry was nice. The beef came with only 5-6 tofu curds and cost me 21$ Seriously 😳?? Tom yum was not tasty. Fried spinach was good but too sweet. Average experience regardless of the fame.

My mind was blown here. We had their tasting menu. The appetizers were so creative, unique and delicious. Their crispy duck is phenomenal. Not only did they manage to make a plant based duck meat they made it better than actual duck.

As non vegan person, this place blew my mind! Is so hard to choose something in the menu because all the options sound amazing. I highly recommend Phad Thai. The "beef" they prepare is insane.

In May 2020, I ordered the Pad Thai for delivery via UberEats. The meal came quickly and was exactly as I expected. The portion is generous and filling, and comes with vegan shrimp, vegan chicken, fried tofu, and ground peanuts. In March 2022, I dined in and had the peanut butter dumplings and red curry duck with sticky rice. The dining room itself is a bit small and dim, but it was bustling and the waiters were extremely friendly. The food was very tasty and omnivore family-approved. ChuChai has an extensive menu with a wide array of mock meats and seafood, noodle dishes, appetizers, etc. Although everything is vegan, it's still hearty, delicious, and authentic Thai food. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Here now on valentine's day... all I can say is the owner is a trickster. The valentine menu says $60/ person for a course meal or 75$ for another but then they say it's charged twice because it states for two. So your basically splitting your meal. The reality is your 75$ meal is 150$for the same meal but halved! So what if you are alone? Or three? Wow. Never seen such dishonesty and disrespect. But the food is good. Crooks.

In short, you MUST try it! Excellent atmosphere, friendly service and delicious vegan food beyond reproach. If it's your first time, (or 15th time) I recommend the crispy duck (Ped Palo)! Served with a flavorful sauce on a bed of spinach, with a blend of crispy, fatty and meaty textures, it never disappoints. Phenomenal! Pictured in the review are the Imperial rolls, the Ped Palo and cherry cheesecake for dessert. ☺️

If you want your friends to try vegan food this is absolute the best choice. I have yet had a complaint from my carnivore friends. Every dish we ordered was beyond expectation. But do expect to pay the price as meals here are not cheap. But being able to convince your loved ones of how delicious vegan food can be, the premium is absolutely worth it!

Love their vegan food; actually tastes just like meat, unbelievable! I’ve gone there to eat over the years and with COVID have been ordering more often. It’s awesome. Love the crispy vegan duck, and vegan peanut chicken. My only complaint is the price to portion ratio, but it’s not an everyday occurrence.

My wife and I, over the past 11 years together, have enjoyed many meals at many different restaurants around the city (and others) but none have compared to ChuChai. The meals are best enjoyed almost as shared tapas, in our opinion. The presentation is ALWAYS on-point, and most importantly, the taste is beyond anything you will try anywhere else. I personally could eat the lemongrass soup and crispy duck every day for the rest of my life and be happy. My wife's birthday is actually on Valentine's Day and we go to ChuChai every year to celebrate. They have a special menu on Valentine's Day that gives you and your special-someone an almost complete taste test of their menu. It really is something to experience. The staff is always welcoming, respectful, helpful and pleasant, which obviously adds to your experience at any restaurant. Lily is amazing at what she does, and my wife and I, to this day, cannot say enough good things about Marcel. Their customer service, accessibility, professionalism and reliability really made our wedding day special. Yes, we love the restaurant so much that we had the honour of them providing food for our wedding. There is no question that ChuChai ticks all of the boxes and is simply the best restaurant in the city.

Warning: This review comes from a non-vegan so I'm not sure how to review it. We took the table d'hôte and it came in an abundance of food! I was quite happy to not feel disgusting even with dessert in the end. I was a huge fan of the papaya salad, the fresh spring roll, and my fried spinach peanut butter tofu ricr bowl! The fried banana dessert was the cherry on top. Oh, don't forget to order their drinks, it's good!

The character of this place is minimal yet pretty with a cozy atmosphere and amazing food! We tried Pad thai, Veg Fried Rice, Dumplings with Peanut sauce and Chicken Skewer and all four dishes were scrumptious. Can't recommend enough if you are into vegan and thai. PS: The bar seats were not very comfortable to sit but the food made up for it!

We wanted to love this place because we love Thai food and vegan meals but sadly it did not meet expectations especially for the price point. We ordered via a delivery service and to our surprise the Thai dishes didn’t come with rice. Not sure how we’re supposed to eat a curry without rice, guess we’ll eat it as a soup. When we called to inquire they said we had to order a side dish of rice. I could understand for some dishes but for a curry it should be included or at least very clearly indicated that it doesn’t come with it. The food tasted good but portions were very small. Perhaps the experience in the restaurant is better!

I can't recommend chuchai enough. Hands down the best dining experience I had in Montreal. They were incredibly accommodating with my dietary restrictions and the dishes I had were delicious and flavourful, not a stripped back version of a dish I usually get. Excellent variety of options and the mango sticky rice for dessert was especially memorable. Wonderful cocktails as well!

Delicious and creative food, efficient service, clean and pleasant place. We loved every dish we had - crispy duck, appetizer, chicken with ginger and tapioca pudding. My only regret is that we didn’t discover this place 15 years earlier:) Thank you!

The food here is absolutely amazing! The cocktails are delicious, best vegan pad Thai ever!! The waiters were very kind. But they did circulate our table like hawks, frequently interrupting our conversation. I paid the bill and the receipt was still on the table and a second waiter asked me if I was ready to pay a minute later. It would be lovely if there was either a better communication between the team or they gave the waiters their own sections, probably less work for the whole team to keep circulating to every table. This could avoid three different waiters coming to ask the same question one minute after each other. But this restaurant is one of the best vegan restaurants in Montreal!!

Ordered fried vegan shrimp, fried seaweed, spicy fried rice and vegan chicken red curry. Taste of the food was amazing, and is the best Thai food I’ve ever had. It is in the pricy side, and portion of the vegan shrimp was lacking (4 for $12). Everything else was on point.

I'm not vegan and decided to eat at this restaurant on a whim. I was really impressed with the dishes I tried. Dumplings with peanut sauce were flavourful with pleasant sweetness mixed with spiciness. The "duck" made of seitan and soy looked very similar to Peking duck, had very crispy skin while being tender inside, served with a savory sauce. I recommend this to people wanting to explore vegan cuisine.

This restaurant was the saving grace of our Montreal trip. We had been having a hard time finding good Vegetarian food until here. Service was an amazing, cozy atmosphere, packed restaurant. Food was very tasty, however portions of entrees were on the smaller side for price as well tofu and eggplant dish was simple in taste and technique compared to other places I’ve gotten it from. We got the dumpling in peanut sauce, le tiger cocktail, pad Thai and tofu and eggplant. I wanted to get the fried banana dessert but when asked the dessert selection it wasn’t offered.

The atmosphere is nice and the staff members are welcoming and friendly. They tried to make us order from their set menu ($55/person + limited options) because we had reserved a 15 person table but my awesome friend managed to have them give us regular menus. The food is ALL vegan. The “meats” are made from soya and wheat and the “shrimps” are made from potato. Personally, I did not enjoy the food - barely touched my plate. Most of the portions were small for the price. Cocktails/mocktails were half off before 7pm which was nice. They also divide the appetizers for the bill without asking us how we wanted to divide it so some of us who didn’t eat ended up paying extra we well. Overall, the setting is nice even though it gets really loud I could barely hear the person next to me. Would I go back? No. Would I recommend it? If you’re into vegan meat, probably.

Vegan Thai? That’s what I thought, wondering what’s the hype. But now I’m like, OMG Vegan Thai ! Vegan chicken? Vegan duck? Vegan Beef? I always used to run away from the word vegan. ChuChai you guys know how to make a vegan dish taste amazing. I would definitely try vegan food again especially if it’s from ChuChai. Every dish we ordered was made to perfection. It not only tasted delicious but the vegan fish tasted and looked just like FISH. We started with some appetizers: Kiao Satay, Het Waan Krob and Gai Satay. My favourite was the Het Waan Krob. You guys made a simple mushroom into a delicious appetizer. It was yummy. For our mains we got Tom Yum soup, Pad Keemao, Kao Pad Pak (Fried rice), Kang Daeng Gai, Khiao Wan Koung with Shrimp. I don’t know which one was better or which one best. I loved every dish. The combination of fried rice with red curry, along with veggies was just delicious. Even my family members who don’t like veggies were gobbling it down. Even one of my family members said: “they will change to vegan if ChuChai opens in Toronto.” Now that’s a big deal for a carnivore to say. Anyone in Montreal should definitely try this place and make sure to reserve in advance since they are usually very busy. To end our night we got Fried Banana with maple syrup and mango with rice. It was a weird combination, mango and rice, but you know what? It was sooo delicious! Yes rice with mango was delicious. It’s fried rice with condensed milk and slices of mango. Definitely unique and great food. Shoutout to Anna who was our server (owner of the restaurant). It’s hard to find a good server who is a great business owner too.

Breathe of fresh air! My family and I were visiting from New Jersey and had trouble finding delicious food at a fair price during our stay. We happened to make a reservation at Chu Chai for our last night in Canada and all the food was very delicious! As spice lovers, we highly recommend the spice fried rice. The pad thai was also so delicious we ordered it twice alone with the spicy coconut milk tofu. All the food was seasoned well and priced fair for it's location. Highly recommend if you're looking for food that won't disappoint!

The food was delicious-- I eat a lot of Thai food, but it was a fun treat to have vegan "shrimp" in lieu of the tofu I would typically get in a green curry elsewhere. The mango salad was such a nice, fresh appetizer on a warm summer evening, and the patio was lovely! The server was so thoughtful and helpful, and one of the owners popped by at the end of our meal. Would definitely recommend! :)

I am extremely disappointed, I doubt come back or recommend this restaurant. I eat very good food at home and expect better of an experience when I eat out... especially for a 200$ diner for 2(no alcohol included). I chose and reserved this place for Valentine's diner after I had read a lot of reviews recommending it. A dry leaf, plain sticky white rice, a couple of boring over salted vegetables and chunks of tofu laying poorly under a liquidy peanut sauce next to extra salty seaweed. Let's not even talk about the desert. My goodness, I ate better vegan food at the mall food court earlier today! That is how bad my experience was. A big waist of my money. Good luck to them...

Amazing place! The food is incredible and very fairly priced. My husband and I were so impressed by the presentation and flavors of the dishes, & the mock meats are so realistic its almost scary! Our favorite dish here is the "Chicken" in peanut sauce with crispy spinach, we also tried the shrimp in green curry sauce and the yellow curry in puff pastry appetizer. Everything was incredible, we're definitely coming back to this place next time we dine out :)

Authentic Thai cuisine, my boyfriend and I were thrilled to have been transported back to Thailand were we briefly lived a few years back with the flavors we had been craving since. An absolute gem and so grateful it is all vegan too. We asked for Thai spicy, and the chef did not hold back which was greatly appreciated too! Will definitely be back! Side note, we sat inside and there was two major parties there, the place is a little small so I'd recommend the outside patio since the chatter can get quite loud otherwise! It looks like a small patio at first but the ambiance at night when we were leaving was gorgeous!

(Translated by Google) Excellent food! We had take out. A bill of $ 135 for three people ... By eating everything, we had enough. We tasted different dishes, nothing was bad, although not necessarily to our taste. It was our first time and I would have liked there to have been a special menu of a bit of all for us to test thoroughly. Also, many Asian restaurants offer menus for 2, 4, 6 people at attractive prices; I think it would be nice if ChuChai had that kind of thing. Ultimately, we will return to ChuChai. (Original) Nourriture excellente!

Went here for during a food festival in Montreal and so we ate some of the dishes on specials. Cool fake meat and mushroom dishes, they tasted delicious. Prices are a little high though if one goes during non-festival times.

Wow! Anna and her sister make you feel at home! I was nervous trying a full vegan meal seeing I am a meat and potatoes person! Favourite was the beef and dumplings! Super great

Great little vegetarian restaurant! Service 5 stars, Ambience 5 stars, Food 4 stars, overall worth 4 stars. The service was really amazing. They were friendly and always there to fill our water or change our plates. The food is very unique which I absolutely love. One of our dishes was a bit salty though. The portions are on the smaller end but I would definitely recommend this place!

I tried to like this unique place. I love that it's cruelty free! But it just seems to be overpriced processed food that triggers a stomach ache. The pad thai is tasteless, the peanut butter dumplings were okay and the fried duck got old fast. I respect what they do. It's just not for my partner and I.

Lost my bank account on this one but it was good! The portions were a little petite and food was expensive but that’s the price you pay for vegan food. Overall it was quick good, the pad Thai was fantastic and I’m usually not the biggest peanut butter dumpling fan but these ones were quite tasty

Food was delicious, especially the duck!! I haven’t been so amazed by a dish in awhile. The staff working were also the friendliest, sweetest servers I’ve had like ever. 10/10 recommend

We went to Chuchai to celebrate an anniversary and ordered the table d'hote. We hadn't been back to Chuchai since Covid, and it wasn't the place we used to love. In fact, in 2021, we had given gift certificates to all our friends and colleagues. The place looked worn out, and the food did not look or taste appetizing. To top it off, at the end of our meal, we saw a mouse 🐁 looking for food! We told the waitress, and she just flinched, but did not look in the direction we indicated, being afraid of mice. She did not seem surprised at all! Needless to say, we left immediately, and the waitress apologized profusely. Total disappointment and will not be returning.
