If you're fascinated by the architectural marvel of the Biosphere, you'll be truly amazed. However, if you're expecting an enriching museum experience, you might end up quite disappointed - like me. My advice would be to skip the museum part altogether and save yourself 22.75 CAD. Inside, you'll find a few empty rooms with videos playing, some educational, some for kids. The exhibits felt more artistic than educational, except for one scientific lab. The multi-sensor experience that one of the workers tried to sell us on turned out to be quite disappointing. In reality, the museum did not offer anything educational or informative that I wasn't already familiar with. It seems the target audience is mainly children, not adults. The most interesting part was learning about the Biosphere dome itself, its construction, and its purpose, but you can actually find this information for free in the lobby. The dome itself is truly grandiose and impressive, exactly as it was back in 1967 during the Expo fair. It's a rare and unique structure, and simply being there is an experience in itself. Though the view from the top platform is nice (seeing Montreal skyline), it wasn't mind-blowing for me. I personally appreciated the Biosphere more from the outside and from a certain distance. I’d like to visit during the evening when the structure is lit up, but that’s something for another time. Unfortunately, the age and lack of maintenance have taken a toll on some parts of the dome as they are literally falling apart. Certain areas, like the outer deck, are closed when the weather is unfavorable. On a positive note, the surrounding park is beautiful and well-maintained, with lovely plantings, seating areas, food stalls, and public toilets. There's currently a captivating photo exhibition of icebergs and birds. Regarding parking, it was a huge hassle for me, with machines not cooperating (some not working at all, some not accepting foreign credit cards) and higher pricing compared to other parking options closer to the city center. The price starts at 8.25 CAD for one hour, 15.5 CAD for two hours and goes up to 20.50 CAD for full day parking. I recommend considering the Metro system instead, as the Jean-Drapeau station is just a few meters away from the Biosphere. I visited on a Sunday in July 2023. Dome: ***** Parking: *** Museum: *

I was here 55 years ago, visiting the USA pavilion at Expo67. The acrylic panels in the dome were not replaced after a fire in 1976, so the dome is open to the elements now. The museum has engaging and interesting exhibits, many interactive ones, about the environment and weather. An all-around film illustrates the natural world. An elevator takes visitors to the viewing levels. Also, I was impressed with the Portions vending machine in the lobby, which contains healthy snacks and includes plant-based options.

Took the metro here. It's very cool but not a lot of exhibits so you don't need a whole day here. We did it all in less than an hour. There was a movie to watch about the environment and then some hands-on exhibits. We took the elevator to the top for the cool views and enjoyed the physical space of the place more than anything. Glad we did it.

This is the most unique structure we've seen. It looks like a building on Mars or some extraterrestrial planet. There is a cool museum inside, with several art exhibits. But the most amazing thing is still the entire structure. And there is also an interesting exhibit showing how it was designed, built, burnt down, and renovated to its current state.

It is an amazing place. The place exhibits museums about Montreal Expo 1967 plans and history of the Biosphere, about climate change, and how Montreal plans to make it the best ecological city in the world. They have some temporary exhibits as well. The view can be enjoyed both during the days and nights. I suggest visiting both the times.

Beautiful but overpriced for what it is. Great view from the viewing but really not much else. A few interesting exhibits but overall - terrible value. No gift shop. 4 stars is "liked it" which I did because Iike the historical significance. $22.75 for adults. No discounts like CAA or AAA. I do like that it is left over from Expo 67.

A bit disappointed by the tour as I was hoping for one that gave more insight on the architecture of Expo 67. Instead it was primarily geared towards nature and the environment. Lots of videos of seagulls and their importance. Paying the $22 fee to enter was the price to get good photographs at the top of the structure, otherwise you’re limited to the first floor. I think they do this intentionally because the tour felt quite pointless. Also, bring your own food and drink if you do visit. There are no places to eat nearby nor places to grab a drink other than highly marked up vending machines. A water bottle and light snacks is a good idea. Otherwise, great experience. Monumental structure that dwarfs anyone inside it. The photos are priceless and the isolated site gives beautiful shots no matter the angle. If you’re in the area definitely give it a visit.

No regrets. Biosphere was amaze-ball!! Of all Montreal attractions, I can say this is in the top tier of a must-go. There were not many visitors yet at this time. Although it started to drizzle, I could take quite a number of beautiful shots of the massive biosphere structure. This environment museum is located on a large land on Saint Helen's Island. The exhibits tells a story not merely showing the facts, which is astonishing. I know we have climate problems affecting us in some ways but I ignored the facts in a micro perspectives, like how it affects certain types of crops and animals which has disrupted our eco-system. The dilemma has already began, altering our living condition. You should also walk towards the other side of the area where the view of St. Lawrence River is spectacular. The crystal baby blue water is pretty and majestic. There are lots of spots for photography and also this is a place if you need to be in a surreal environment with no traffic. Another go-to spot is to walk towards the cafe, there is a massive space to look out to the view of Montreal city and Mont Royal across the river. Gorg! I planned to stay there for an hour but ended up extending it to three. It was already four in the afternoon when I left the place.

Fun experience and you get to learn a lot. Compared to museums for general education it lacked interactive exhibits and you had to wait for videos to restart after running through the whole video, you could not restart with a click or button. It is pretty cool for children and the fact that it is not a science museum and is dedicated to environmental sciences makes it unique. There is no food or coffee shops in the place as an fyi.

Although many people feel there are not much to see inside the biosphere, this is a great place to take pictures of the biosphere at night. The night photos of the sphere with different colors come out very beautiful. When we went there last week, the night sky in Montreal was bright with a full moon. A combination of a full moon with the colorful biosphere rendered an amazing photo. In additional to the biosphere onto opp, the view of the night sky line of Downtown Montreal from here is just as a spectacular a photo spot. I took a photo of the skyline with the full moon on the side. The picture was fantastic with full of colors. Getting to the biosphere is a bit difficult as it is located on a man made island. You can either take a ferry from the mainland or ride an Uber. We chose a latter. Getting Uber to come back to the mainland was easy as well. We only waited less than 10 minutes for an Uber to pick us up and another 15 minutes for us to get back to our hotel in downtown.

This place re-opened in August under management of the Montreal environment office after having been managed for years by the national government. Exhibits were redone and they are of the highest professional quality. For anyone interested in understanding environment and its the challenges globally and in the city of Montreal and the Quebec province this is fantastic. And the building itself and exhibit about the 1967 expo are also exquisitely done. The hanging Garden at the entrance is a good example of presenting something fascinating and beautiful and explaining the mechanics behind it at the same time. And this is a wonderful place for children to learn through tactile interactions. Very much worth the visit!

This was a very fun place, I liked the gardens, the trees, the paths and the lights. The architecture is really great and the lighting was awesome. There are also public restrooms and waterfountains. Everything is clean and there are a lot of bugs and mosquitos. Have a nice day.

It was my first time here. The kids enjoyed the climate change and pollution exhibits. The short movie they had at the first station is a bit scary for little ones. We all enjoyed the top floor of the biosphere. It is an open space with panoramic views of Montreal. Recommend to bring a lunch to enjoy in the park. Parking was pretty expensive: $8 hour

December, so it was clear of crowds, and easy because of no snow and mild temperature. There is an underground Metro stop there as well as on-site paid public parking lots. So interesting to see the geodesic dome up close for the first time. A very modern, interesting museum covering environmental topics has been added inside the dome. It is paid admission and provides a viewing platform on one of the upper floors. Big outdoor waterfront spaces to walk around, and several clean public toilet areas. In Canadian style of urban cleanliness, a pleasant place to visit.

Must visit...huge park in the heart of montreal. Biosphere museum is worth the visit. They even give guided tours on certain time of the day. entry to the park is free. lots of paid parking. $12/2hr $20/day. Biosphere is paid entry $22. closed on Mondays. many educational short show inside on each level. more information on naive plants and insects. very kids friendly. clean washrooms on base level. Park on P9 if you want to visit just Biosphere, as it's close by. we went there on really hot day. so very few people.

Very well organized and full of interesting and useful information. I was impressed with the experience. Under utilized for sure. I would not hesitate to bring my kids again, in fact they asked me to bring them again. Worth the trip and cost. Pay for the whole day parking, it will take more than one hour to take it all in.

Since I came to Montreal, I notice that the town is full of Arts and architectures. France are natural artist and when they migrate to this land they have learn and have influencer. long walk and enjoyed clean subway. We got there 4:45 PM and Biosphere close to 5 so we only have a chance to see the first level of the exhibition. As long as we don't miss any of our friend we are enjoy if the visitor has fun.

The concept of the Biosphére is great in every sense. First and foremost, it's an environmental museum available for the public. Even if you don't want to pay the entrance, at the base of the Biosphére you can find a lot of information about it, and you can experience the feeling of being inside the building without having to pay (you can get in freely if you stay on the first floor). Another thing that I love about it is that it's beautiful; with such a unique architecture and colorful illumination at night, you can recognize it even from far away. Plus, it's situated on a beautiful park, which makes the visit even more pleasant.

It's better to go the St Lawrence River, near the Museum than to visit it where you have not to pay 15$ of your hard earned money. But they have not used and developed the possibilities of such a magnificent river as a tourist attraction. Even one can't find a place to get in to the shore and 'touch the water ' that every tourist wish to do.

I feel bad for saying this but I wasn’t really impressed with the Biosphere. It looks really cool on the outside but once you explore, the museum was pretty small. But it’s not about size, it should be about the content right? The general concept is mixing art and science. Some of the exhibits were a bit weird on the artsy side. While I did learn a few things, I don’t think it offered a valuable amount of information. It’s okay, but there are other museums in the area I would have seen before this one.

One of my favorite parts of Montreal. The biosphere is a great thing to see but definitely don’t skip the museum inside (which is apparently the only environment museum in North America)! The staff is ridiculously kind and the displays are both educational and moving. Kid and adult friendly, lots of interactive and interesting activities!

The exhibition is dated and rather disappointing, definitely in need of an upgrade. Yet this gem of a building, created by Buckminster Fuller, is a must for any architecture lover. The views of the city skyline through the web of the dome is a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts.

A must visit museum for all ages. Very beautiful decors. I love the 360 video presentation and the fifth floor outdoor visit where you have an amazing high view of the surrounding. Don't forget to take some pictures with your loves one. The last missing star was due to the lack of personnels: 1) To inform visitors and answer to their questions in each room. 2) No one was there to clean headphones and touch screens. At least provide clorox wet cleaning tissues so we can self served. 3) There was a problem with the ventilation: we were suffocating inside each room, especially the 360 video presentation room.

The Biosphere (French: La Biosphère), also known as the Montreal Biosphere (French: La Biosphère de Montréal), is a museum dedicated to the environment in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is housed in the former United States pavilion constructed for Expo 67 located within the grounds of Parc Jean-Drapeau on Saint Helen's Island. The museum's geodesic dome was designed by Buckminster Fuller.

Oh my God this place is so beautiful! Despite the fact that I went to visit it in winter days with some parts close due to some construction. The place is colder than the city. It is also hard to walk in some areas. I recommend to go using the street in the lateral of the station not the one closer to the biosphere - because it will be easier to walk - also the view is superb.

One of the truly EXCELLENT science museums that caters to adults and children alike. Good exhibition on the ground floor about the history of the Biosphere, but the really amazing exhibitions were the water and air quality exhibitions, which were highly interactive, as well as the weather and climate change exhibits. And don't miss the view from the top!

First of all the building is a must see for its architecture! We enjoyed the environment museum : nice staff - great movie in room 2 - quite interactive and some focus not only on global warming but on solutions too. You can leave this place more educated about climate change, with some hope and determination that we can still make a difference. Good place especially for kids are already in school, give them more knowledge about environment. For kids in the young age is not much interesting. On the 5th floor has nice lounge to sit relax for the view. In summer until fall you can walk around in the 4th floor outside balcony Unfortunately it close for winter due too much snow and it can be slippery. Over all we like it.

A great place to visit with kids in Montreal. There are some other attractions in this area, but the Biosphere itself good for 1-2 hours visit only. The entrance ticket is separate for every attractions and they are a little expensive. The car parking vary from CAN $ 10-20. If you buy day pass for $20, you can use it at other attractions parking lot too that’s the good part. But keep your budget in mind before you visit.

It was nice. The sphere itself dominated the view as a landmark. It is very much the centre piece of the park there. There is an admission fee of 15CAD and if you take your time you could be in there for about 2-3 hours. You get to learn about the green initiatives that Montreal is trying to promote. It would be quite educational for young children to learn about being green and the impact of human consumption on our earth.

This is a fantastic museum but can be limited depending on the time of day you come. They had several fantastic exhibits about climatology, meteorology and the effects of the weather. There was a very interesting demonstration and informative exhibit about the floods in Calgary back in 2013. The Biosphere has a fantastic section on Expo 67. It was arguably one of the best put together world's fairs. It happened over 50 years ago yet the technologies and ideas that were displayed we're very much cutting edge and modern even by today's standards. I wish they would talk more about Buckminster Fuller and dive deeper into the history behind this unique geodesic dome. You had to really dig in through the museum to find any history of what is probably the most unusual architectural thing in all of Montreal. the history of the house and the dome was buried inside of a space exploration exhibit on the first floor. if you pick up the headphones and listen to all of the recordings it talks about the history of the museum, Buckminster Fuller and Expo 67. This place is definitely worth going to and spending a few hours!

This place is such a uniquely innovate concept for a museum! The exhibits are informative, thought provoking and eye opening with plenty of activities to do. The scenery here is one of MONTREAL's special attractions. The circular style of the building can be photographed at a low angle. A little further away, you can capture the urban scenery where the building and the surrounding environment are integrated.

(Translated by Google) Great hope to have a good time with this beautiful outdoor architecture and these beautiful photos in front of the biosphere. Then then ... Unfortunately, it goes down, room closed for work (we know it once we paid), interesting themes but tackled in a very basic way, text panels, again and again ... In short, no height! In free access to the rigor to have a real mission of information towards a novice public (Original) Grand espoir de passer un bon moment avec cette belle architecture extérieur et ces très belles photos devant la biosphère. Puis ensuite...

Fun and informative! Probably best to come in the warmer months, but in the winter it is quiet and empty!

Interesting museum with lots of good information on climatology and climate change blended with some local aspects. The biosphere itself is an intriguing construction and the park around there often features concerts or similar things.

Beautiful building amazing for photography was shocked at the sheer size of it . The size of the inside of the museum and sight didn’t really seem worth it plus other reviews saying so but it’s 100% worth visiting the outside

Cool looking place, has nice views from the top. Personally wouldn’t say it’s the most exciting museum ever. Mostly just reading and a few interactive screens. But other then the kind of boring contents of the museum it’s a cool place just to check out. The surrounding area is very nice as well and definitely worth exploring.

Anyone familiar with the work and thinking of Buckminster Fuller NEEDS to pay this temple for his visionary ideals of sustainable co-existence through design a visit. SO MANY cool ideas expressed here, in cool engaging ways.

Good centre for learning about the environment and really interesting architecture. However, not ideal for kids younger than 8-10. There just isn't enough interactive exhibits - more reading based. The tour, overall, is also quite short. So value for $$$ is also average.

It was a pleasant experience, I think it would be very enjoyable for people with children because a lot of the exhibitions were created with children in mind. The staff were polite, friendly, and very helpful. I liked the exhibit about futuristic cities and Montreal in the future. Let’s hope that future-Montreal is more accessible for people with disabilities than present-Montreal! Oh, speaking of accessibility, this museum is accessible, with elevators and ramps, which I was happy to note.

An awe-inspiring experience awaits at the Biosphere! This captivating haven seamlessly blends science with art, offering an immersive journey through ecosystems and their delicate balance. Exploring how toxins impact organs is both enlightening and crucial for understanding our environment. The beautiful structure complements the wealth of knowledge within. A must-visit for those seeking to be inspired and educated in one remarkable space.
